How is it that these places haven’t been sued out of existence for fraud and/or unfair business practices?

I find it more than a little amusing that the Kentucky GOP claims “the governor has had no discussions with any legislators on the details of the budget” in light of the fact that the budget was put together in less than a day, behind closed doors, with details not provided to anyone before the vote.

The high dudgeon is really over the top.

So, I assume that Paul Ryan and the freedom caucus are drawing up articles of impeachment as we speak, right?

I mean, they’re so devoted to the constitution, there’s no way that they’d let someone so blatantly violate the emoluments clause, right?

Right?

Wow, this story: the Trump Organization’s lawyers in Panama wrote to the president of Panama to “URGENTLY request” his “influence” in a business dispute, suggested that they’d blame the government of Panama if he didn’t help, CCed his Cabinet:

In any normal world, this would be grounds for impeachment

The problem is, it should be grounds, but it won’t be because the majority in both houses of Congress not only would shrug their shoulders at it, they actively encourage it. THey’ve given their green light to every single thing Trump’s done that would have lead to impeachment for any other president in history.

We literally can’t do anything but point out how expected this fucking is because there’s no levers of power we can pull that can make it happen.

Oh, I agree entirely. I’m not someone who is completely opposed to voting for a Republican at some point in the future, but there is absolutely no way in hell I would vote for any current Republican member of Congress who isn’t willing to call out this corruption. They spent 8 years looking for a scandal in the Obama Administration, and made up a few along the way, now they are ignoring the rolling shitshow of corruption and scandal that is Trumpworld.

NEW: A new budget analysis says the combined effects of President Trump’s tax cuts and last month’s budget-busting spending bill will send the government’s budget deficit toward the $1,000,000,000,000 mark

If anything else, Pruitt may fail even further upward despite all the rank dealings he’s been exposed for. That’s how fucking backwards and utterly impenetrable it feels right now. So, about those 38 50 87 126 million Facebook users…

Zuckerberg confirmed in the testimony that the Internet Research Agency (IRA), a Russian troll farm, reached an estimated 126 million people with its Facebook content in two years and an additional 20 million through Instagram. The IRA also purchased ads on Facebook, which were seen by about 11 million people in the U.S., according to Zuckerberg. He wrote in the testimony that Facebook shut down the IRA’s accounts in August 2017.

Zuckerberg has made the very short list of people I would punch square in the face if I saw him on the street.

Jason Aldean gets it.

Country music star Jason Aldean made the case for new gun laws in an interview with the Associated Press published Monday.

“It’s too easy to get guns, first and foremost,” Aldean told AP.

“When you can walk in somewhere and you can get one in 5 minutes, do a background check that takes 5 minutes, like how in-depth is that background check?” he continued. “Those are the issues I have. It’s not necessarily the guns themselves or that I don’t think people should have guns. I have a lot of them.”

Aldean and his band were on stage at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in October when Stephen Paddock began his shooting spree, killing 58 and injuring hundreds.

[…]

The musician told AP that in debates over gun control, “[n]obody is looking at what the actual issue is and really how to come to an agreement and make a smart decision.”

“It’s a no-win situation,” he added separately, referring to the gun control debate. “I think no matter what you say, whether you’re for gun control or not, I mean, you’re setting yourself up to be crucified in the public eye or in the media.”

Let the Dixie Chick-ing commence…

From that article:

“Brian Burgess, communications director during the campaign and for more than a year after Scott took office, now holds a similar position for the state GOP. When a Times reporter asked him where the dog is, Burgess said he thought it “weird” that two Times reporters would contact him six minutes apart with questions dating back to the 2010 campaign.

But he wouldn’t say where the dog was and accused reporters of “surfing some old Facebook or website pages.” At one point an exasperated reporter asked Burgess if he had killed the dog, and Burgess denied ever killing a dog, but still wouldn’t say where Reagan was.”

The dumbest thing is that no matter how strong your personal security is - your passwords and your security questions and 2-factor authentication, the dumbasses in IT will leave open backdoors, or use password as the password to critical portions of the network, giving hackers total access to data (which unsurprisingly is all too frequently left unhashed and easily reconstituted to give hackers a bonanza of data). Or, it’s the company leadership that screws up and leaves their password written on paper so some janitor can come in and gain access for a nice payoff.

From something I saw (on this site maybe) is that it is the going rate, for a room shared with 8 other people. And the bathroom is down the hall.

Also, you have to be 26 or younger. But the youth hostels also include free WiFi and breakfast, so…

I will again point out Mueller’s already used the crime fraud exception in two instances thus far, and could do it against Cohen early and often because he suspects criminal activities.

Cohen, is as they say in the legal field, fucked.

there is a rule that forbids her bringing the baby?
good grief.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but as far as I am concerned babies don’t belong at work. I am all for making life easier for working mothers(and fathers for that matter) with daycare assistance, pumping rooms, flexible schedules, etc., but a new parents convenience should not come at the expense of everybody else’s.

I am not unreasonable, I know emergencies happen, but it certainly shouldn’t be a regular thing.

re: #124 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

For starters, comms between a lawyer and client are not privileged if they are made in furtherance of a crime, fraud, or other misconduct. Lawyers are officers of the court, and this is one of the few areas where prosecutors can get the lawyer to reveal details normally protected by privilege.

For more, see here. This one is relevant to Mueller’s actions thus far.

If you and your lawyer are discussing past crimes and how to defend you, that’s privileged.

If you and your lawyer are discussing and planning future crimes, it’s not.
