Sassy Trump or Colbert’s impression of Trump are, literally, the only way I can hear his voice. I need it filtered through an actual human being first. He comes near me on video of any kind, it’s immediately turned off. He is vile.

re: #87 goddamnedfrank
I think it’s just a combination of signature verification and “not being enormous pedantic assholes about it.”
It’s that last part that’s crucial and basically impossible to legislate.
Signature matching is also ageist and ableist as fuck. I mean, how do you properly make sure that people who have severe arthritis or neuromuscular conditions are treated fairly?
In Nebraska, you “make your mark” and have a witness sign the envelope, also giving name and address. The witness must be a registered voter, but can be from anywhere in the state.

I just don’t know what takes so fucking long in California and Arizona, to name two. Our ballots (that had been received) were counted and results released at 8:15 Tuesday. Now they had until midnight to be postmarked, so that was only an estimated 86% of the vote, but updates appear at 4 P.M. every day.
I might add that King County Elections handles the second largest number of ballots in the country after LA County, so if they can do it, anyone can.

Kirk’s a fucking moron.
No. Kirk is a liar.
The intent is to get the lie into the conservative religious canon.
He also lied about other offices (such as first woman governor);
If it’s first woman governor ascending to the office by any means, that would be Carolyn B. Shelton (D-Ore.) who was appointed acting governor over a weekend due to the inability of a successor to take office due to illness, in 1909.
If it’s the first woman elected on her own, it was Nellie Taylor Ross (D-Wyo.) who was elected in a special election when her husband died in office.
The first woman elected in her own right was Ella Grasso (D-Conn.) in 1975.
Madeline Kunin (D-Vt.) 1985-1991 was the only woman to ever serve three terms as a governor.
Joan Finney (D-Kans.) 1991 was the first woman to defeat an incumbent governor.
Kay Orr (R-Nebr.) 1987 was the first Republican woman governor, and the first woman to defeat another woman running for governor in a race.
This stuff is kind of easy to check. The fact that Charlie Kirk puts stuff out there like that indicates he is lying, not misinformed.

I think the bigger the wave, the more likely that it is that we’ll see the gavel back in the hands of Nancy Smash, because this will allow those who foolishly made statements that they wouldn’t vote for her safely to do so, allowing them the opportunity to save face and still allowing Nancy to wield the necessary majorities to effectively block GOP legislation that blatantly hurts minorities, allow them to continually draft legislation for positive change, be it environmental, health care, immigration, gun control and continually force the GOP and the President to vote down common sense ideas and be on record.
I also expect her to have her team ready to rock and roll on day one and have spoken with and to each of the new members to find out what they are passionate about and where they can help and make a difference with their committee assignments.
Why? Because she’s organized and knows how to get shit done.
I fully expect the GOP to try and assassinate her because if anyone deserves credit alongside barrack Obama, it was Nancy Smash, for pulling the country’s chestnuts out of the fire in 2008 after inheriting the dumpster fire that W left.

Yup, pretty soon now. Maybe we’re one Trump SC justice away.
Interesting polling information from my county -
The turnout for the Presidential election was 50%. We had partial mail voting then (some precincts had it and others didn’t).
After that, the state passed a law saying any county with fewer than 10,000 could request mail voting for the whole county. Ours did.
The turnout for the just-completed midterm was 71%.
Statewide the turnout was a bit over 50%.
As of yet, I still don’t know how the county canvassing board meeting went last night. There is no reporting in the local media about the village board election.

BadgerChevroletWolverine State for electing a whole bunch of Democrats, and maybe one Democrat in particular if you know what he means and we think you do.On the compendium of random brainsharts that serves as his Facebook page, the full-time Texas resident explained the majority of Michigan voters certainly don’t speak for most Michiganders, like him, for instance.
Real God country family Michiganiacs are heartbroke that more of us want the once great state of Michigan to turn into a California shithole. Downright insane cultural suicide. Thanks for nothing assholes.
(bold mine)
They then go into various local and national media outlets which completely missed the point of Nugent’s Faceborg post, and the fact none of his followers there missed it at all.

To what end? We all saw the video and Acosta clearly did not physically assault that rude intern who attempted to grab the mic from him while he was still speaking. WE SAW THAT WITH OUR OWN EYES.
Bots don’t get to make up facts when we have seen the evidence.
One of the Cincinnati radio/TV stations tweeted about it today and asked if people thought the video was manipulated or not.
All the responses said they watched it as it happened and SHS’s tape was NOT manipulated…it was what really happened. THEY SAW IT HAPPEN JUST LIKE SHE SAID! and Acosta is a pushy jerk who doesn’t respect the president.
sigh.

There’s no requirement to respect the president.
Off topic, but I feel like it’s worth mentioning:
On September 28, WWE’s stock closed at 96.73, then the Saudi Arabia stuff happened. Today it closed at 70.07 (last week it was a little lower). That’s a 27.6% loss. It’s probably not going to matter much, because as I understand it, the McMahon family still owns a controlling number of shares.

Yup, for example, this Faceplant post from a couple hours ago on the mass-murder in Thousand Oaks.
Why isn’t anybody talking about Emotional Wellness, and more specifically how environmental factors - even food - are causing people to become depressed, angry and suicidal? In a PLOS journal study, it was determined that synthetic compounds in trans-fatty foods cause aggressive behavior, as does eliminating food groups such as carbs. Can violent video games cause a lack of sensitivity to reality? What about the growing number of children at home without supervision after school? We know that PTSD is real. My husband and I support many veteran charities and have even built a pavilion for wounded soldiers at Brooke Medical Center in TX.
What about potato chips? I haven’t heard that one before (he didn’t provide a link to this alleged study, and I doubt Ted Nugent knows diddly squat about PLOS).
What about - violent video games?
What about - children at home after school without supervision?
What about - PTSD?
Last I checked, no one was murdered with a video game, and the shooter was not a child without supervision. As for PTSD, it can do a lot of things, but I don’t think that includes planning to go to a nightclub with guns and ammunition to kill as many people as you can.
Like any other mental disorder, those with PTSD are far more likely to be victims of violence, not perpetrators of it. Moreover, the idea that veterans are (apparently) the only ones with PTSD is not true.
And of course the answer is always “more guns.” I can’t imagine what would have happened if some dingbat who was carrying in a nightclub decided to be the Good Guy and shoot back. The whole crowd would be caught in the crossfire, and like the deputy and the security guard, also wind up dead.
re: #122 TedStriker
Well, it does mean that Vince and Linda are now 27.6% poorer now, at least on paper.
True, but at this time last year, it was trading around $20/share, so they’re still way ahead of where they were. Hopefully, this will get them to reconsider the Saudi Arabia deal going forward, but I highly doubt that.
I do not advocate or agree with what happened to Tucker Carlson’s family last night, but for chrissakes, the man makes a living whipping up hate among the stupid and heavily armed. He and his side send the Flying Monkeys after anyone who even slightly criticizes Dear Leader, or expresses some dismay at things like separating families. He advocates for policies that are intended to terrorize families.
At what point are we supposed to still feel sympathy for Mrs. Goebbels, or for Eva Braun?

Look at what got done in two years after W
the Infrastructure Bill to pull the country out of the ditch AND the ACA…. I have no truck with any of these assholes who think she’s lost a step, prove it, after watching the train wreck that was John Boehner and Paul Ryan, for ANYONE who seems to be suffering from amnesia from that time period, look at what got done in two fucking years and what has taken place since… we’re still coasting from the changes wrought in 2008-2010 that essentially saved the country and these bastards want to consign her to the dustbin… stupid mofos all….

I think the logic is “we have laws on what constitutes a valid ballot/vote, voters and poll workers have an obligation to comply with those laws.” And that’s a fair position. We should be a nation of law.
The problem is when there’s vague language in the law and one county counts one way and another county counts a different way, with both being reasonable interpretations of a vaguely worded law.

Conservatism has always been opposed to democracy. They cannot be embarrassed for supporting what they believe is true (only the “right” people should vote, or there should be no votes).
“Democrat” was made into a slur by the Federalist Party when Thomas Jefferson formed the Democratic-Republican Party. The Federalists were concerned giving as many people the franchise as possible would be ruinous to society.

“Democrat” was made into a slur by the Federalist Party when Thomas Jefferson formed the Democratic-Republican Party. The Federalists were concerned giving as many people the franchise as possible would be ruinous to society.
The “Democrat Party” slur goes back to the late XIX Century.
The Democratic-Republican Party wasn’t super concerned with universal suffrage either, to be fair. There were probably more abolitionists among the Federalists (like Hamilton and Franklin) than Democratic-Republicans

That’s true as far as it goes. At the time no suffrage was granted to women, slaves, or Natives. The D-R party at the time wasn’t concerned as much about that as the reach of federal power and the Alien and Sedition Acts (Jefferson viewed them as unconstitutional).

” civil disobedience” to court orders (otherwise known as contempt of court) is ok if the order conflicts with “God’s law.”
Civil disobedience to court orders (or any other laws) is absolutely okay if you’re willing to admit what you did and accept the penalty.
(that’s why the civil rights activists in the south needed new yorkers to give them duffel bags full of cash to pay their trespassing fines, etc)
It’s an effective strategy to draw attention to a law that would be hugely unpopular if enough people heard about it.

Up here, we’re getting snow and bitter cold (20 degrees F / -6 degrees C). A couple of years ago, Mrs. Fish got stranded at the bottom of the big hill in town because her car didn’t have enough weight in the back end or tread on the tires to make traction on the ice. Some gracious soul picked her and the kids up half a mile from the house and took her home until I could come down and help her get the car from the gas station back home. Was Franklin a Federalist as he died in 1790 before the two parties really took fold. Not nitpicking because you’re right about the Federalists actually having more abolition and slavery opponents in their ranks. You can add John Adams to that too.

Television.
Think of the 18th Century, where election results would be tabulated in each precinct, then someone would have to physically take them to the next larger unit, and so on, and so on. Think how far it is from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia (PA Capital till 1799). By car, today, it’s 304 miles. via the turnpike, but that’s with a couple tunnels and other things that cut the distance down. So maybe 350-400 miles by horse.
It’s also the same distance back. So, you cast your vote for, say, Governor on a chiily November morning, and you hear the results back promptly sometime before Christmas.
Now? Cripes, if it’s not decided before the East Coast goes to bed, people bitch.

Which is why it’s moronic to act like the parties have been static in their ideologies throughout the centuries. The party that Lincoln co-founded. I like to think I would have been a part of that. Not just because of Lincoln’s opposition to slavery but because of Lincoln and also William Seward’s opposition to Know Nothingism and Lincoln’s support for internal improvements, an off shoot of Clay and Quincy Adams who I think while not a great President was a solid heir to his father as a great American statesman.

Let’s be realistic, Cruz has a strong shot at being the most unlikable Senate incumbent in US history (sure someone will one-up that with an example, but they’ll be few and far between) and a lot of his momentum was only possible due to the current political madness.
Yes, he’s a very, very solid candidate. Not getting to run against bozo the clown’s half-molten stepbrother might deflate that stature somewhat. Then again if Trump does actually go for a second term rather than find some excuse to F off he might well have a similar punching bag to run against.
Not saying he’s not viable, but let’s not forget a goodly part of why he seems so likeable is, well, just by comparison. Also if you want to hammer Trump’s incompetence and lack of statesmanship it might help to have someone a little more formidable than a state house member on top of the ticket. All of it comes down to Jefferson and Hamilton hated each other.
Jefferson owned people, Hamilton thought that shouldn’t be allowed.
Jefferson was a rapist, Hamilton a seducer.
Jefferson wanted an agrarian feudalist nation, Hamilton wanted an urban mercantile society.
Jefferson played violin, Hamilton was a rapper (/s).

You’d think conservatives should love Hamilton; he founded the Bank of New York, the Stock Exchange and the NY Post. But he hated slavery, so conservatives have to lean towards Jefferson.

It is getting cold early. I don’t think the high is supposed to get above freezing for the better part of a week. That’s going to suck if I have to rotate the tires; it’s a tedious job in the summer, and freezing-cold tools and air temperatures just make it worse.

I need to look at him. Ashamed to say that I don’t know him even though he’s from my state but this is pretty neat:
Carter became known for his religious freethinking and support of dissenters even before the Revolution. He resigned from the Cople Parish Church vestry in 1776,[29] and during the following year had a mystical experience while feverish from smallpox inoculation.[30] This prompted further spiritual seeking, from composing his own prayer for God to “have pity upon all Jews, Turks, Infidels & Hereticks”, to making trips to experience Quaker, Methodist, Presbyterian and Baptist preachers, as well as investigating Arminianism and perhaps Catholicism (although such was illegal in Virginia at the time).[31] On September 6, 1778, the Rev. Lewis Lunsford[32] baptised Carter in Totuskey Creek. Carter scandalized neighbors further by joining Morattico Baptist Church,[33] a mixed congregation of white and black, free and slave. Carter knew he risked persecution, for Eleazar Clay, another wealthy man, had his life threatened after conversion, and during the three weeks preceding his own baptism Carter attended two different services that were attacked by armed mobs which included Revolutionary War veterans.[34] Frances Ann Tasker Carter, who was declared an invalid in October 1779 after the birth of their 16th child,[35] moved to Bladensburg, Maryland for health reasons,[36] and eventually converted to the Baptist faith there a year before her death in 1787.[37]
In those days Baptists were strong supporters of separating church and state because they had been victims of church and state together policies in Europe.

Normally you can’t go from the House to the presidency because most House members are not well known, even within their own districts, let alone their states or nationally. Senators have an advantage - they have statewide name recognition and there’s fewer of them, and they more often end up on TV. Usually, you’d need to be in the House leadership to have national name recognition.
Beto is different because, despite running a mostly Texas race, he gained national attention. That helps.

I agree house or senate doesn’t really matter all that much (well, I mean, smaller chamber does tend to mean more responsibility for committee members and being involved in the whole appointments process is valuable but I doubt many voters who actually know and care enough to make that distinction will be swayed either way come 2020).
Best would be a governor with previous legislative experience (or legislator with gubernatorial experience I guess) but I guess you can’t win them all.

Hamilton was born in 1755 and you’re right about him being one of the few self made ones. There were a couple others. Franklin actually was self made as was Roger Sherman, Connecticut’s forgotten founding father but an important one in that he signed all the major documents of the age and the father of the Great Compromise that gave us our legislature as it’s currently constructed.
Maybe Beto for VP wouldn’t be a bad thing. Pair him with a Senator or Governor like Harris, Booker, Brown, and a sleeper I want to learn more about but Pa’s Governor Wolf who won by a solid margin.

I think people like Jefferson because Jefferson is the romantic of the Revolution. The writer of “All men are created equal”, the Sage of Monticello who loved France, and later the purchaser of the Louisiana Purchase. I’ve always had a weak spot for Adams for his brave defense of the soldiers accused in the Boston Massacre. Everyone’s entitled to a defense in this country and Adams’ bravery in defending those guys is a big part of why. Plus I actually met a guy who played one of the soldiers as an extra since he was a re-enactor at a colonial event I went to around that time.

Maybe Beto for VP wouldn’t be a bad thing. Pair him with a Senator or Governor like Harris, Booker, Brown, and a sleeper I want to learn more about but Pa’s Governor Wolf who won by a solid margin.
Booker seems the best chance by far out of those. Sensible moderate with a spotless record and a good helping of charisma to boot. (personally not a fan of the others either tbh but that’s beside the point)
Also, and I know it should not matter, but any suggestion that helps with the sort of folks who are nostalgic for the time of 44 is a good thing, too.
re: #232 Blind Frog Belly White
So, you cast your vote for, say, Governor on a chilly November morning, and you hear the results back promptly sometime before Christmas.
Now? Cripes, if it’s not decided before the East Coast goes to bed, people bitch.
Also, IIRC: it wasn’t until 1845 (?) that Election Day was held on the same day nationwide, by law. Prior to that, I think each state set its own date: but by the 1840’s technology, in the shape of better roads and (most importantly) the telegraph made the old system - where, with fast enough horses, election results in early-voting states could affect polling (i.e. via political manipulation) in the later-voting ones.
Better nowadays, but of course, there will always be exceptions Florida…..
re: #240 Brian J.
Sinema has just taken the lead in Arizona, as the early ballots are being counted!
Sinema, Kyrsten 914,243 (48.91%)
McSally, Martha 912,137 (48.80%)
How long before Trump says: “The elections are rigged and the Democrats are trying to steal some extra seats. They should be counted by Tuesday midnight and not a day longer or they don’t get counted, it’s the people’s fault for being late!!!”

He’s also got some exec experience too which is a nice bonus for a Senator. I think we need at least one person from the midwest or someone from the west for the ticket IMO. I think the West is a place where we can grow as a party, see Sinema’s hopeful win, the gains for Senate and Governor in Nevada, and the clean sweep in NM. The Midwest is an area we need to show that we care again. I have to say as much as I like my own Senator Kaine, maybe Sherrod Brown would have been a better running mate for HRC due to her struggles there but gotta think about the future right now. CAn’t dwell but I like Booker for similar reasons to you but I also like that he has a strong emphasis on CJ reform.

I just heard Tim Ryan interviewed on NPR and he may be on our D side, but what an ass. Nancy Pelosi is the only leader he is fussed about. His claim is that if “we don’t let young new members vote against her when they ran on that, we are hurting them with their constituents.” So let those vote against her, if they want to be that ignorant. Good grief.
re: #305 Jay C
to be fair Jay, Ms. Green dropped out of the race with only a week to go, so any folks sitting on the fence would be the only ones affected by her announcement, wouldn’t affect all of the early voting that would have been done on her behalf that had already been mailed in.
This was a national race in microcosm… McSally ran multiple ads touting the big lie that she supported pre-existing condition protections and even propped up a rural nurse to give her street cred in doing so, whereas the Congressional Record on her votes say otherwise…. so who are you going to believe, some talking head showing you a date and a vote or some nice burse telling you that Ms. McSally would never do such a thing….
so we had actual GOP deeds on the record on one side and GOP lies on the other… just goes to show you how effective the big lie actually is in that the race is THIS close. I normally don’t hate politicians, but in McSally’s case, lying about her vote and then running on that lie sure has made me loathe the everloving hell outta her.

It’d be nice if he didn’t reenforce the Pelosi is the Debil crap. I mean I get why there’s pining for new leadership in a way but at the same time, Ryan and a lot of Pelosi’s opponents never give her credit when she deserves it which she deserves more often than not.
re: #311 retired cynic
IIRC he’s the same dipshit who attempted to dethrone her as Minority Leader in the House and got zippity do-dah in traction. We probably won’t see him in a leadership role because he’s probably a blue dog misogynist when it comes down to brass tacks… I suspect his actual number of supports is small and when the new kids meet him, we’ll see how well he does in recruiting them to his cause but methinks that the young’uns coming in might be a tad too liberal for the likes of Mr. Ryan.

re: #269 Interesting Times
I thought of you as soon as I saw this thread - would you say it’s accurate?
I’d say that is pretty fair.
And the comment about Ohio being southern to a degree needs some explanation.
Ohio was a big booming industrial state. Every bit as big as Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania. That is why there were so many medium size cities in the northern part of the state. These cities brought in a ton of people from Kentucky and West Virginia for jobs. These folks are now the Trump voters because just like in Kentucky and West Virginia they still want those old jobs that paid well, but now are gone. And they don’t seem to want to learn (add in the comments about education) new tech. So they are angry.
The central west to south was huge in farming. That is all corporate and so you have those nice old classic farm communities that had the old Victorians and The Nice Court Houses struggling too because farming has changed and become production. Those towns have been stripped of youth and all they have are older folks stuck in them.
The thread doesn’t seem to touch on the fact that all the elections are close, it is never a Red drubbing. So, I think what has happened is Ohio is like a little United States. It has the rad areas that are angry and the larger cities are liberal to the point that too pisses off the rural people.
And as far as people leaving for jobs. That is a little disingenuous. Columbus is booming and a lot of it is tech, banking, insurance and education. They can’t build housing fast enough it seems. Our downtown is filling in fast with 8 to 12 story apartments and condos.
And Kasich fucked up a lot of communities budgets which hurt school funding. He touted how he balanced the Ohio budget. He did…on the backs of the communities who lost state funding due to all the cuts and lower taxes to make Johnny look good. Well that is fine and dandy, but the communities then had to raise taxes and fees to pay for schools and infrastructure and many of those communities just didn’t have the people to pay them or they resisted.
Long run, we will be alright once the younger folks take over a bit more. It’s the olds (even though I am 64) that are the problem. Old thinking and suspicious of everything.
Sorry for the long post…a lot to say.

When you consider how much of a hassle it can be to vote in the US - long lines, bad hours, hard-to-reach polling places, etc - it’s mind-boggling to think someone would go through all that for someone they damn well know has zero chance to win -_- I mean, if you hate the major party choices that much, might as well save yourself the trouble and stay home (and who knows, maybe the majority of the Green party voters would have done just that if she hadn’t initially been on the ballot).

Ugh. Dude.
Which reminds me, at some point this weekend I need to rotate her tires so that the new ones are on the back.
Interestingly, my wife is looking into Americorps for work in St. Paul. (I’ll need a bigger snow shovel.) It seems they want people to teach computer literacy, basic and advanced, and that’s right up her alley.
Americorp’s stipend is pretty low though (meaning you have to have some sort of independent income). I guess that would be my VA disability.

I don’t think Ohio’s going way of Missouri and Indiana. Brown did too well two nights ago. I think at worst it becomes a Republican lean state. Indiana’s always been Republican exempting the 2008 Obama shocker. Missouri I grant you has increasingly become Republican since Bill Clinton left office.

As we’ve seen with Hillary, a woman at the top of the ticket is still just a bridge too far for enough men (and some women) that it still matters, even though it really shouldn’t. Hell, if Harris or another woman were the VP pick on a near-future Dem ticket, I’m sure that would still cause problems.

All I’m saying is that I don’t think we’re as far away from a woman President as I did two years ago. I’m not disagreeing that it still seems to be a net negative, but the trend is in the right direction.
There’s some truth to what’s being said about sexism. However, the next Dem nominee won’t have decades of ingrained hatred against them like HRC did and they hopefully won’t have a former rival like Bernie who is a shitty ally.
re: #311 retired cynic
I just heard Tim Ryan interviewed on NPR and he may be on our D side, but what an ass. Nancy Pelosi is the only leader he is fussed about. His claim is that if “we don’t let young new members vote against her when they ran on that, we are hurting them with their constituents.” So let those vote against her, if they want to be that ignorant. Good grief.
Ryan and Merkley were both at our state convention. I just loved Merkley and thought Ryan was a bit of an ass—but then, Nina Turner was also there (ugh) so it was all a matter of degrees.

I like Merkley. Don’t know how he’d be as President or VP though.

All sounds good to me. And yeah I really like Sherrod. He’s able to communicate on working class issues without being a dismissive dick like someone in Vermont.
That’s because unlike Sanders, Sherrod grew up in Mansfield Ohio just like I did. He would know rust belt depression, slow economy, race issues…the whole thing that Bernie talks about but never had to experience.
At one time Mansfield had the largest Westinghouse manufacturing plant outside Pittsburgh. We had Tappan Appliances, Mansfield Tire, Martin Steele (farm silos, etc.) Empire Reeves Steel (feeding Tappan, Westinghouse), Fisher Body, Borg Warner Plumbing Fixtures, GM Fisher Body (GM car body panels), Ohio Brass Products (brass casting) and two huge industrial pump manufacturers, Gorman Rupp and Peabody Barnes.
And we had Isaly’s Ice Cream!!!
All of that was in a city of about 75,000 people around 1960.
Much gone by 1975.
Just like Chrissy Hynde sang about Akron…My City Was Gone!
re: #373 MsJ
@MichelleObama accuses Trump of using body language to “stalk” Hillary Clinton during an election debate.
It’s not an accusation. Millions of people watched him stomp around and sneak up behind her and breathe down her neck while she was speaking. Millions of people heard him shout ISN’T SHE A NASTY WOMAN! while Clinton was explaining in detail her plan for keeping Social Security and Medicare.

Bernie’s from Brooklyn remember that. But you’re right about the Rust Belt thign too.

Good luck with that! Bring Warm Clothes.
Cost of housing has gotten a lot more expensive over the last dozen years, especially for rental housing (still some affordable houses for sale). Your smart car should get you around fine except for maybe 4-5 days per winter. Roads are cleared pretty quickly Public transit is passable but expensive.

re: #361 Interesting Times
The scariest assertion from that twitter thread I showed you was that Ohio was going the way of Missouri and Indiana. Are there enough people in the urban areas to stave that off? Is there any way Dems could break through in the rural areas?
Healthcare. Welfare. Social Security.
Those rural folks are needing all that, and they really need to be brought to (again) understand who designed those programs, who implemented them and who is really protecting them.
And keep it simple and to the point and pound on the lying Republicans that somehow those folks fall for every damn time.
And conservative radio and Fox TV need to be beat down. That shit is real toxic in Ohio.

Of course it’s bad analysis. Bernie has a blind spot when it comes to race, and it’s never been more glaring that with that quote
I think it’s time to stop giving Bernie a pass over and over again
Call it the way you would for anyone else

Public transit is expensive? That’s actually news to me. I never really traveled much on the bus, though. I guess that’s why the light rail is so ridiculously cheap - they’re probably trying to push everybody onto it. The only time commuting in any kind of car is a problem is if it snows during rush hour, or if it’s snow followed by -25 degrees F cold.

Here in Texas, there were more total votes cast in the Senate race than there were when Cruz ran in 2012, a presidential election year.

Right. I was just pointing out he didn’t grow up in Vermont. He grew up in a diverse area. You are right though that it’s a different animal than the Rust Belt just like my grandmother’s cousins who grew up in NYC ahd a different experience than Grandma.
re: #280 HappyWarrior
We all have different preferences to style. For me here’s why I like him. I like that he was unashamed to be a staunch progressive Dem in Texas. I like that he’s been vocal on two issues I find important: criminal justice and immigration and I like that he was willing to campaign everywhere he could too but I understand where you’re coming from too and as I said we each have our own preferences.
What I liked about his campaign style was the fact he made a point of going to every single county in Texas. That’s a real feat. It also showed he wanted to bring everyone in the state his message, regardless of how the area leaned R or D.
re: #395 ObserverArt

Well, it’s cold in the winter. So, there’s that.
re: #356 Blind Frog Belly White
Yum!
Mind you, there’s something to be said for things that taste much better than they look. For example, The Older Boy had bought about 5 x 2# packages of frozen “easy peel’ shrimp, and when you have a lot of shrimp, you can try things beyond just steamed shrimp or Cajun barbecue shrimp. SO I made Shrimp Etoufee, which ends up looking like shrimp in brown gravy, but left the family practically licking out the pan.

Exactly. That was great. I get that not every candidate can do that but that was awesome.

There is a reason he moved from a multicultural major city to a blindingly white rural state. It is not a blind spot - he’s just as racist as Trump.
