It’s definitely a better place. I’m seeing how excited the world is about this on social media. I hope Joe sends Kamala on an international tour early on in his presidency to let the world know we’re back and we appreciate your patience with us and still treating us even if our President was a fuck stick. I was overseas Trump’s first year in office. I never felt hassled for being an American but I had to shake my head several times and explain how bewildered I was by the madness.

1. Trump looks like dog shit, even worse than usual.

2. Report from Stupidville - My wife and I decided to head down to the beach, but we got to Robert Moses Park and it was slammed. We cut west, into Nassau County (heavy Trump territory) to go to Jones Beach. Also slammed. So we just stayed on the parkways and headed back home.

Important point: We saw no Trump truck. No flags. Not even a bumper sticker.

Not for me. You could see this coming, sooner or later. Elections work that way.

But the wall? No, I expected it to still be there when I died either of old age or WWIII. The Soviet Union was in decline, but the Ottoman Turks held on in worse shape for centuries by simple brutality, When the East German guards did not open fire but instead opened the gates on 9 November? That was a moment no one really expected.

From Downstairs:

That’s one of the reasons why I say that The World War started on 28 June 1914 and ended 9 November 1989…

Probably the greatest celebration since VE day.

Without some actual print or TV media reporting I don’t believe this.

Unfortunately I’m too far out of central Paris to be a witness.

But the church bells are run by the Catholic church, not the people or the local authorities. And most French church bells are hooked up to carillons, not just swinging like that.

And for Biden, the better spoken Pete won’t outshine him if Pete is in an office that only gets attention when there are VA scandals.

Oof. You can see it on his face. He lost, and he knows it.

All his life, he’s craved acceptance; from his parents, the crowd at Studio 54, New York high society. And the only acceptance he ever got was from people he privately despised, people he views as rubes, suckers, fools.

He’s always tried to present himself as a winner. But now, he’ll be remembered as a failed, one-term President, an incompetent and vainglorious boob whose callous disregard for everyone but himself and his image led to the unnecessary deaths of a quarter million Americans - and counting. And there’s a good chance he’ll face a reckoning at the hands of the Attorney General of New York state.

Running for President may well have started off as one of Trump’s typically hare-brained publicity stunts. And that stunt has now ended in abysmal and humiliating failure; running for President was quite possibly the biggest mistake of Donald Trump’s life.

And that’s the obituary of the Trump Administration.

Trump and His Pathetic Allies Are Yelling About Stealing the Pennsylvania Election or Getting a ‘Do-Over’
These people are enemies of democracy. If it’s necessary to retain power, they’ll get rid of it. By Jack Holmes, Esquire Politics

To be clear: the president telegraphed that he would invent widespread issues of voter fraud if he lost, and he is now doing exactly that. The Fox News Channel, with which he has enjoyed a Symbiosis of Stupid for his entire presidency, has snapped into action to spread the delusional conspiracies about cities where Black Americans live stealing the election. They’ve been joined by some of the president’s most pathetic allies, who in fairness only narrowly beat out the many, many Republicans who are watching this in silence. They would apparently prefer the president orchestrate his election theft with a little more gravitas—you know, like they did it in 2000.

But again, the president was too dumb and lazy to even get his legal team in proper place before he tried all this, so now he’s reduced to just spewing enough crap into the body politic that it goes into some sort of septic shock. Because he is a completely broken person, the president would have no regrets at all about kicking off enough street violence to disrupt the process of his ass getting evicted from the White House. His allies are on board, and no one should forget. These are some of the absolute worst people the United States of America has produced. They should get the Sarah Huckabee Sanders treatment every time they visit a restaurant for the rest of their lives. They have declared war on American democracy itself, and that is not forgivable in this lifetime.

I wonder if he’ll even get one… I’m sure he will want to build one (and find a way to overcharge the government for it). Of course, since he and his adult children are legally barred from running non-profit organizations, it might be complicated.

My guess? He will try and do it at a Trump property and look for a way to get the national archives to pay for it

Naw it will be a grift. They will solicit donations, and since Trump is a great builder, the money will all go to the Trump Organization to “build” the library, which will never get built. But they will keep the grift going as long as they can.

Tit for tat. There were no Democrats in Trump’s ‘cabinet’ and I don’t recall any under W Bush either. I’m tired of this business where Democrats include Republican when Ds are in power and Republicans don’t include Democrats when Rs are in power.

The media and the electorate are mostly very stupid, and such things help create a perception in the feeble-minded that Republicans are the sole legitimate party. See also the FBI director always being a Republican.

W had Norman Mineta at Transportation for the first six years. I think that was the only Dem in his two years.

At the end of the day, I think it comes down to who the nominee is. Like we aren’t going to have Gohmert as AG or Rubio at State

We forget, Biden is a veteran of the Obama administration. President Obama knew that no matter what he did, the Republicans would not be happy with him - so fuck them, pick the right person for the job. I imagine Biden will produce a strong and competent Cabinet portfolio.

And he had my local R rep, Ray Lahood, as sec of trans, and he was and is a good, decent man. His son is now my R rep, and I don’t like him as much as his father, but he has ducked most of the egregious sh*t. If Joe can find someone like Ray, I can live with that. If he can find someone that removes a thorn in the shoe, or puts the stink on someone for 2024, I can live with that, too.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea.

I met him in 2015, the same day some paper (can’t remember which) had described him as “the candidate nobody’s ever heard of.” I told him I had heard of him and he got a big smile on his face. Didn’t want him as a candidate, but seemed like a pretty nice guy—and has usually been on the right side of issues like conservation (against offshore drilling), was the only Republican senator to vote against authorizing the use of force to oust Saddam Hussein in Iraq, became a Dem back when mostly because of Obama (and Martin O’Malley) and was an Obama campaign co-chair in 2012.) And Obama seemed to really like him.

I love every wrenched moment of that film, I have the DVD. They talk about it frequently on Gilbert Gottfried’s podcast.

The thing about reconciliation or coming together is this: any chance of that hinges on abandoning the conspiracy theory, disinformation, the hate, that paranoid delusions of child trafficking and extra judicial jailings or persecution based on your feelings. Abandon the cult and we can have a conversation. I will never accede to that bullshit and nobody else should either. Once you do that it validates it.

Unless it includes the original or some revamped ending to the 3rd, I’m sadly not interested.

Still love the first two, but that ME3 out-of-the-blue, choose-your-favorite-color-regardless-of-any-plot ending remains one of my worst gaming experiences.

I’ve mostly been holding out for a remaster of the first game, since it has aged incredibly poorly graphically. Just addressing the physics bugs would go a long way to making it a better game.

As for ME3…yeah, I’m not holding out hope that they will undo the “artistic vision” of that original ending. But it’s like the Bioshock Collection of years ago: I’ll just play the games I like and avoid the one that I don’t.

That’s the problem: Most of those willing to do so already had their Road to Damascus moment and joined the “NeverTrump” camp. The remnants either are unwilling to do so…or were cool with going along with it all in pursuit of some selfish goal. The former are beyond hope and the latter are so morally compromised that I wouldn’t want to be associated with them.

He was my third choice after HRC and Cousin Marty. Seems like a decent man. Speaking of Marty, Biden’s campaign manager is also an O’Malley. We Mayo people are repped well with Chief Joe at the top. Mayo and the Irish people in general love Biden. I know you like Derry Girls. The actress who plays Claire is loving every moment of this. She’s from Galway.

re: #185 Dr Lizardo

And that’s the obituary of the Trump Administration.

there’s a reasonable chance he’ll face a reckoning from the new AG at DOJ. Someone on Sirius Potus channel was talking about how the supreme court would look very dimly on a self-pardon, because of their “no man above the law” doctrine, and that Pence can’t pardon him because that would be a pretty clear quid pro quo: I resign so that you become president and pardon me. That would put him in federal cross hairs.

I think there’s some issue with the state’s deadline for absentee ballots or something: NC allows several days for acceptable receipt, I think: and they don’t count them until then. Or something like that.

Though note that Trump & Co. don’t want this extended to PA.
