Something about Twitter makes some people respond this way to strangers after reading a single tweet. “You’re surprised?” If I’m done with something why the hell would you think I’m surprised by it? Being done means there’s nothing surprising about it any more. Fuck you and your one-upmanship.

This is where the mute button comes in handy, just to get them off screen and stop the irritation.

Our RW Texas brother is sure that Tennessee was a test run for a more general infrastructure attack, but he hasn’t blamed anyone in particular — he said it could be domestic or foreign, but no speculation there.

Not much info to go on in Nashville yet but I think it shows a pretty high level of organization to prepare things like that, and try to prevent casualties. This seems to argue against a disgruntled employee. The choice of target makes me suspect a QAnon connection, because of their 5G conspiracy theories.

All this could be totally wrong, of course. First impressions.

Merry Christmas, all. After a night and day of pretty horrendous weather, we were treated to this sunset.

We’re at home this evening. There was a small family gathering happening today, but we begged off and are staying in. Bread is in the oven, tomato sauce cooking on the stove, it’ll just be dinner for the two of us this year. It kinda sucks, but we feel better just staying in.

But not his role as the leader of an armed rebellion against the USA and his support of the cause of slavery in America.

It is worth noting that Trump got more votes this time than he did in 2016 and set a second-place record for overall votes cast.

And had it not been for a record turnout in favor of Biden, his plans to contest the election in the courts might well have succeeded.

Oddly enough, nobody is calling for a detailed investigation of the states that he won…

First Christmas without the old man. Mom has been having a really tough go of it today. Second Christmas with the pup. He’s been a very welcomed distraction for the both of us. COVID just feels like the knife being twisted. I’m more a loner but she needs to be around people. I talked her into inviting friends over for quick driveway chats last week. Lifetime friends who she hasn’t seen since the end of 2019 (vs. very often pre-COVID). Crazy times, indeed. Distracting her with dinner, a new iPhone, new cookware (kind of for me too since I’m the main cook), and a photo book of Bear. This is me pulling out all the stops this year. I’m going to need a nap after this. :)

Happy holidays everyone!

OK, much as I hate to have to “be fair” to any Republican Senator (especially Asshole Cornyn), one really shouldn’t pass judgement on any food solely based on pictures on the Internet.
That said, the Cornyn Family Brisket does look pretty peculiar: it looks like they tried to deal with the problem of overcooking a thinnish cut of meat by refusing to cook it much at all. And the apparent color-correction in the photo doesn’t do it any favors.
But yeah, Cornyn’s from Texas: he should know brisket IS serious business down there. If he can’t stand getting heat over it, he should (in this case, literally) get out of the kitchen….

When you are sick, the vast majority of your symptoms are from your immune system reacting to it. Rarely are they from the actual virus. From what I understand, if you actually start to have issues caused by the virus itself and not your immune reaction… you might be close to dying.

This is why idiots get flu shots and then bitch that it made them sick and then refuse to get them again.

A Mom Anon  Dec 25, 2020 • 5:42:32pm

Christmas dinner was pretty good. The bone in rib-eye roast was tasty and I cooked it just right. Mashed potatoes were weird, they took forever to cook and were lumpy no matter how high I turned up the mixer. Still edible but odd. Making some cbd coffee and having some chocolate pie and watching the new Wonder Woman movie now. It was a Funko Pop Rocks! Christmas, l think the Husband may be a tad obsessed. He spent 6 months collecting 25 of them to give me.

This has been a hell of a year for all of us. I wish America would learn how to work together and find some sense of community. I think that lack of connection, that spark of humanity and goodness, when it’s lacking, is the cause of much sorrow, anger, destruction and just overall evil. I hope as we wind our way through this pandemic that we learn to remedy this huge hole in our society. We have so much grieving and loss to process, this is where “rugged individualism” will fail us. We all need time and space to process grief and loss, but it’s not possible to heal completely alone. We have to figure this out to be even close to whole again, individually and collectively. At least that’s what I think.

Anyhow, lol, that’s what’s running through my brain this evening. Merry Christmas Lizards! This really is one of the coolest, smartest places to be on the internets and I am really happy to be a small part of this community. Because, well, community is a BFD, and this is what “social media” should be. Stay safe and well, ❤️🎄🎁🤗.

1. I like some lumps in my mashed potatoes so I know they’re not instant. We were at my grandmas house once, and she served instant potatoes. I loudly asked why the mashed potatoes tasted funny. Found out there was a mishap with the potatoes.

2. Your husband is not obsessed. He loves you!!! I think it very sweet.

This guy doesn’t do badly, it’s just not the best I’ve had. I’ve had better BBQ from one of the local chain restaurants, even, and his prices are kinda high. With that said, I like supporting local businesses, and it’s quite good enough to satisfy a craving for BBQ.

Same here. Got the Christmas ham to come out perfect. But 81-year-old dad insisted on putting unfrozen rolls on broil for 8 minutes with expected burnt top results. My sweet wife accidentally put too much milk in mashed potatoes, then Dad made a mess by sticking the spuds in the in microwave - twice.

Just ate the ham and the bottom of the rolls. Dad is one of those who thinks time stopped in 1955 - everything since has sucked. Sigh. Miss my mom so much.

re: #122 Dr. Teddy’s Person

I was tasked with making the mashed potatoes this past Thanksgiving. (Probably the first or second time I’ve made them - I usually just bake them.) Followed an America’s Test Kitchen recipe which differed from how my brother does it, so he left me to do it pretty early on.

Potatoes took longer than expected to cook in the boiling water so I was sweating having them ready in time. And then worried that they’d come out lumpy due to me not mashing them thoroughly enough, not cooking them long enough, etc. etc. Then we I put some of the half and half in I thought “oh crap, now they will be watery!”

Ended up that the potatoes absorbed the liquid just fine, had a real nice silky texture, and went wonderful with the meal.

Funny related story. The first time I made mac and cheese out of a box for Mrs. Fish, she was astounded. She wondered how I got it to be so creamy and smooth. I showed her the package, where it calls for 6 Tbsp of butter or margarine. She had no idea that it was supposed to be that rich; apparently, her mom skimped on the butter when she made mac and cheese from a box.

The main difference in the recipe from America’s Test Kitchen I used was not to dice up the potatoes. Their approach was to cook the potatoes while having less surface area to absorb water that might affect the texture.
