Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse - CPAC and the Hungarian Right | the Daily Show

It’s always amazing to see how completely demented and viciously hateful the modern conservative movement has become.

Jordan Klepper hits CPAC to talk to die-hard Trump supporters, then heads to Hungary to find out why conservatives are interested in the “Trump before Trump” Viktor Orban.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Odds of Getting Laid Off at Historic Lows

“New claims for unemployment benefits are trending at their lowest levels since 1968, a sign of how few layoffs are happening in the tightest labor market in half a century,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Job security today, by some measures, is even better than it was in the economic halcyon days of the late 1960s.”

So I lived across from a parking lot, where I kept my car except on Tuesdays and Fridays when it was used for a farmer’s market.

So I woke up like Arthur Dent on Green Thursday morning (the day before Good Friday) to see a tow truck carting off a car, and nearly dropping my cup when I saw it was my car being towed off.

You see, due to Good Friday, they had moved the Friday Market to Thursday. I ran out in my bathrobe with wet hair and managed to flag down the truck in time.

Just as well, as it was not my car, as such (mine was in the shop) but one from work that I had unofficially borrowed from the Warehouse…

I never did get the hang of Thursdays, Green or otherwise.

In about 3 years it will likely become a matter of national policy if not the law itself that cynical stunts like Abbott’s supply chain sabotage will be required to be framed as another failure of the Democrats and socialism itself. The right wing always transmits their intended actions beforehand. This is a manifestation of their arrogance and overwhelming entitlement.

When Republican Party minders are in control of all media within the entire US it will be required that the remaining Democratic strongholds and cities be blamed for everything and should be attacked. These attacks will come in the form of not only unending propaganda by a compliant major media (“access, et al”) but also physical actions like trucker blockades, train blockades, and right wing militia vehicle operations involving actual violence. Count on it.

I was once asked to evaluate some software that was being pushed as a way to automate certain tasks. It was being pushed by senior management.

I ended up writing a white paper which basically argued that the tool wasn’t appropriate for the task.

I was stunned to learn that the white paper was being widely distributed by management. Seems that I wasn’t the only one with issues about using the tool and folks just wanted justification to not adopt it.

I was even more stunned when the lead engineer of a 250 employee department deploying the tool called to thank me.
He told me that the executives hadn’t listened to his concerns.

The tool was eventually discarded.

And I wasn’t fired for pushing back against the push to deploy it.

and its NOT just that… Abbott’s actions are indiscriminate in who they affect and are done with only with one goal in mind, to hurt the administration. If he’s painfully impacting all Americans, then they can depend on the 4th estate to faithfully report that there are supply chain problems and conveniently leave out what those causes might be. Implying that it’s the Administration’s fault for lack of oversight.

If a kid is riding down the sidewalk on his bike and someone else comes up and sticks a tree branch in his spokes, the 4th estate will gladly tell you that the bike rider crashed and leave it up to reader to determine what happened.

Went down the rabbit hole of the Black sea, looks like that Russian Warship will be preserved for a very long time.

A Greek merchant ship dating back more than 2,400 years has been found lying on its side off the Bulgarian coast.

The 23m (75ft) wreck, found in the Black Sea by an Anglo-Bulgarian team, is being hailed as officially the world’s oldest known intact shipwreck.

The researchers were stunned to find the merchant vessel closely resembled in design a ship that decorated ancient Greek wine vases.

The rudder, rowing benches and even the contents of its hold remain intact.

“It’s like another world,” Helen Farr from the expedition told the BBC.

“It’s when the ROV [remote operated vehicle] drops down through the water column and you see this ship appear in the light at the bottom so perfectly preserved it feels like you step back in time.”

Although the warship may not be deep enough to be in the anoxic waters.

Ben Ashlock thought he had settled things with a customer complaining about the Ukrainian flag atop the Kentucky steakhouse he manages.

Ashlock had opened up to the man about his personal connection to the war-torn country: He and his wife had adopted a teenage son from Ukraine three years earlier and forged friendships in the process. When Russia invaded, he wanted to show his support.

The 41-year-old general manager of a Colton’s Steak House & Grill franchise figured that was it.

It wasn’t. About a half-hour later, hate started coming from all fronts — the restaurant’s phone, Facebook page and reviews on Google. Over the past week, the firestorm has kept raging in Bardstown, a city of about 13,500 in central Kentucky. Ashlock, describing himself as an uncontroversial person, said he had planned to keep the flag up until Russia left Ukraine.

“I would love to take the flag down … because that would mean that they’re not at war anymore,” he said.

Prior to Musk buying shares, Twitter was trading at a lower price then on the day it went public 8 years ago. Twitter is providing something of value. The number of users shows that (even if you assume that half the accounts are bots). But the high user base and engagement is not translating into revenue and profit growth.

Having been overswept by a wave of NOSTALGIA, it suddenly recurs to me that 1986-ish was a time when I read not only the Hitchhiker’s Guide series, but also Stephen King’s “It”, “The Bachman Books”, all the contemporarily-available Stephen King short story collections, and (IMPORTANTLY) The Book of the Subgenius. Just a normal okay 12 year old doing normal okay 12 year-old things.

i’m old enough to remember when the bachman books were by a guy named bachman, complete with a jacket photo.

“Prosecution” of anything Abbott does would go about the same as any other Republican officials/high level MAGA seditionist and traitors… meaning pretty much no legal action or repercussions for Abbott’s political stunts and illegal activities at all.

It seems our present justice system starting with the DOJ all the way down to Manhattan DAs are intent on not only surviving a predestined Republican Party supermajority win in 2024, but positioning themselves to thrive in our new upcoming authoritarian MAGA Utopia. In place of justice our legal overlords seem intent on their own personal positioning ahead of our impending utterly corrupt and ideologically backwards autocracy.

Expectations of blanket Presidential Pardons for everyone and everything involved in 1/6 is increasingly likely IMO along with Executive Orders bypassing Congress and the DOJ to arrest and “prosecute” Pelosi, Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, and other high profile Democrats in 2025 despite woeful evidence standards and sham testimonial “witnesses”. When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I’ll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin’
Just five miles away from wherever I am.

I still have not settled “final arrangements” with my daughter. She wants me buried beside her mother in Lubbock.
