How Dare You Want More

these steps toward faith i can’t imagine it
pack my suitcase up till i can’t bare it
who am i without this weight on my shoulder
oh god i’m dying to know
but how dare you want more?

how dare you want more?
preacher preacher’s callin’ from the floor

man of secrets two lives that he’s been living in
stolen identity stolen dreaming
who is he if he just go and tell it like it is?
i bet he’s dying to know
but how dare you want more?

how dare you want more?
preacher preacher callin’ from the floor

these steps toward faith so easy for her but
out of mind out of sight i’m trying to find out
who is she without all of this carryin’ fear
oh god she’s still my mother and still my wheel yeah
still my mother still my wheel yeah
still my mother still my wheel yeah
still my mother still my wheel yeah
still my mother cryin’ out how dare you want more?

how dare you want more?
preacher preacher callin’ from the floor

hey lonely wants to stay forever
but tonight we’re gonna do a little better
yeah tonight we’re gonna do a little better
yeah tonight we’re gonna do a little better
wait lonely wants to tear us down now
but tonight we’re gonna drown the sound out
well tonight we’re gonna drown the sound out
yeah tonight we’re gonna drown it out

well how dare you want more?
well how dare you want more?

hey lonely wants to stay forever
but tonight we’re gonna do a little better
yeah tonight we’re gonna do a little better
yeah tonight we’re gonna do a little better
wait lonely wants to tear us down now
but tonight we’re gonna drown the sound out
well tonight we’re gonna drown the sound out
yeah tonight we’re gonna drown it out

Speaking of outright ugliness flourishing on the internet, some folk are still really upset that brown-skinned people are cast as elves, dwarves, halflings etc. in a Tolkien adaptation:

Running intense audits on career Fed employees is pretty stupid, especially when they are cops. They are, perhaps, among the last people to bend the rules of taxation because, well, they’re cops.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A federal judge sentenced a former Trump supporter to three years of probation and a $7,000 fine for sending an email threatening to kill Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and three other congresswomen.

David George Hannon, 67, also must undergo mental and substance abuse treatment and have no contact with Omar or Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, according to a report in the Tampa Bay Times.

Hannon, who pleaded guilty in April to threatening a federal official, sent the email after the four Democratic lawmakers held a news conference in July 2019 in response to criticism from former President Donald Trump, who said they should “go back” to the “crime-infested places” from which they came.

“He was doing that because Trump told him to,” his daughter, Elizabeth Hannon Dillon, told the judge during the hearing on Wednesday. “He was a Trump supporter and now he regrets it.”

Exile (Foreign Lands)

Tall mountains and starlit vistas
Faint rivers, fir trees, laurels, myrtles.

My heart, oh my fire, whoever sees
tell her to come to me, not to be late.
My stranger, my love, light and dawn
before all is broken from my sorrow.

Humid valleys and you dragon caves,
wings of eagles and the wind’s black nests.

My heart, oh my fire, whoever sees
tell her to come to me, not to be late.
My stranger, my love, light and dawn
before all is broken from my sorrow.

I have NHK News on my phone and it’s been blowing up for the last few minutes. (In fact, the way it was blowing up made me think my brother was texting me and getting annoyed I wasn’t responding.) Obviously, if Abe was shot by an assassin, this is going to cause all sorts of *I’m not sure what* in Japan.

I’m going to walk away for a bit because I don’t want to think about this, it’s really upsetting.

Asahi English headline simply says Abe collapsed and that what sounded like a gunshot was heard.

It’s a developing story, shot from behind at 2 m distance, possibly with a shotgun. Perp, in his 40’s, Nara native, arrested. Media reports Abe is in cardiopulmonary arrest.

That Asahi Shinbun story has at the bottom a list of attacks (since WWII) on political leaders. Google English translation:

Major incidents in which politicians were attacked
October 1960 Inejiro Asanuma, chairman of the Socialist Party , died after being stabbed by a right-wing boy during a speech

January 1990 Hitoshi Motoshima , Mayor of Nagasaki , was shot with a pistol by a member of a right- wing group and was seriously injured.

October Hyōsuke Niwa, former Labor Minister, died after being stabbed by a man at the Ground Self -Defense Force garrison

March 1992 Shin Kanemaru , Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party , is shot at a lecture

October 1996 Mayor Yoshiro Yanagawa of Mitake Town , Gifu Prefecture was attacked at home and seriously injured.

In October 2002, Democratic Party member Kouki Ishii was stabbed in front of his house by a right-wing group representative and died.

August 2006 Koichi Kato , former secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party, and his office were set on fire and burned down.

April 2007 Iccho Itoh and Mayor of Nagasaki were shot dead by a gangster executive

Padres outfielder got a knee to the neck. They tried to walk him off the field twice. He collapsed twice. I’m fucking livid right now. No neck protocol was followed. Even the team doctor tried moving his head around to check range of motion.

I’ll be surprised if he ever plays baseball again. Awful.

Credit card scammers must think everybody is as dumb as they are. It’s the only way to explain why a woman who got caught this morning trying to float a fake authorization form would not only try it again, but would do it twice using the same name she called the hotel under this morning when we told her we knew she was trying to scam us.

Shinzo Abe is (or was) an Old-Line fuck muppet of a defender of Japan’s unbelievably racist past (and present), but he was also a staunch defender of the ties between the US and Japan.

He was an asshole, but for us, a very friendly and reliable asshole.

I have very mixed feelings about this news.

So I’m going to go to bed and see how I feel about it tomorrow. Which I think is lovely advice to everyone.

And by the way, considering that he was shot twice from behind, from a reported 6’ away by a shotgun, he is probably as dead as a boot.

I’ve been to Japan twice, and I’m completely stunned by the news. Japan has a very strict gun/sword law. Basically, after WWII, pretty much all guns and swords were confiscated and in 1958 a law was passed setting out the terms by which one could possess a firearm or sword. The owner of a ryokan our group stayed with was one of those people—he had a heirloom sword that had come down through generations of his family, and he had a gun to take down local deer, which were then served as a dinner dish at the ryokan. (The deer were pests and the local government wanted them culled to keep them from getting out of hand.)

From reading Japanese police procedurals written by Japanese people, even the detectives keep their guns locked up unless absolutely required. This makes sense to me, because Japan is very crowded and you just don’t want anyone shooting a firearm when there might be dozens or hundreds of people within a few hundred meters of where you’re standing.

Even though Abe is a conservative politician of a populist bent, I could see the LDP (his party) getting behind laws to tighten up gun ownership even more. I’m certainly not going to question that, not when we have idiots running around with guns here.

A modified shotgun, I thought someone reported.

It looks completely improvised. The two tubes do not look thick enough for gun barrels of that (very large) caliber. That could explain the heavy tape wrapping (ie reinforcement). The wires at the back could signify some kind of electronic ignition.

We don’t see it very often in this country, since professionally-designed factory-made guns are so easy to get, but there are many ways to make a workable gun from readily available components.

Yes, but certainly no more than countries where improvised guns are more common. The requirements for a Federal Firearms License (Type 7-Manufacturer) are not particularly onerous and are basically the same as an ordinary dealer’s license.

FFL License Requirements:
Be a U.S. Citizen
Be at least 21 years old
Be legally allowed to possess a firearm and ammunition
Have a location for conducting FFL activities ( home-based FFLs are the most popular FFLs in the country)
Ensure that your business activity at that location meets zoning requirements
NOT have violated the Gun Control Act (GCA) or its regulations
NOT lied on your FFL application

He got shot with a homemade cannon. Personally, I’d be surprised if he survives, but you never know.

I’m curious as to why the shooter targeted Abe; we know he’s former Maritime Self-Defense Forces (basically, the Japanese Navy) but was he trying to send some kind of political message or is he just some irritable psycho who wanted to get into the history books?

The thing that shocks me is the idea that someone would be able to get that close to a former world leader, essentially point blank, and point a weapon at them, much less fire it off, before security could neutralize them.

That’s pretty janky. The shooter should consider himself quite lucky it didn’t blow up and kill him instead. And it certainly doesn’t look like the kind of improvised firearm that could stand up to a test-firing; it’s more like a one-and-done sort of thing.

Yeah, that’s definitely a security failure. I get it, Japan is easily one of the safest societies on the planet, but that doesn’t mean you can just assume that no one’s going to try to take a potshot at a political figure, especially one as well-known as former PM Abe.

It is like that in our stretch of the Rhine valley. I ignore the forecasts and only trust the weather radar for the next two or three hours. We have a chain of hills that breaks up the weather and sends the storms passing north and south of us.

Even when they get totally soaked, we get at most a few drops.

Thursday Thoughts

“Are mommy and daddy coming soon?”

No, Aiden. And I don’t know how to explain it properly to you. You are so young. You are only 2 1/2. But I was told this: the last act of your daddy’s life was to wrap his arms and body around you so that you might have the opportunity to live a long, happy, and productive life. Your daddy’s arms held you from the earliest moments of your life to the last moments of his.

Your mommy’s and daddy’s arms, hearts, and enormous love are still with you now and forever.

Aiden’s mommy and daddy were slaughtered on the side of a street waiting to celebrate with a parade and celebrate with their son the best of our country.

Slaughtered.

A doctor on the scene of this horror story said that no one should ever see the destruction of a human body caused by the type of weapon used to slaughter Aiden’s mommy and daddy.

The right to bears arms.

That weapon of war was legal. And that is all that matters in America. As long as the weapon was legal (used in an illegal way) the right for Aiden to be wrapped in his parents’ arms appears to be secondary to the right to bear arms (assault weapons) by so many people.

Legal.

Is “legal” the highest standard of living in America? I sure hope not. Slavery was legal, the right to not vote for women was legal. What appears as financial schemes are argued as legal in courts every day.

Mass destruction.

For me, military-type weapons, carried legally, that caused mass destruction have no place among civilians in a civilized society. Some of you who read my words will certainly disagree. Some will say that these legal weapons are carried in the arms of the wrong people. Tell that to Aiden when he is old enough to understand.

A Christian Country.

I am getting tired of hearing people use the mantra that our country is a “Christian” country founded on Christian principles. Can the principles and person of Christ promote hatred, prejudice, violence, and abuse? Jesus Christ was the victim of violence not the promoter of violence.

Heart and soul.

My soul is sad today and my heart is breaking. And I am getting tired of hearing these words: “My thoughts and prayers go out to those victims and their families.” Don’t get me wrong. My thoughts are genuine, and prayers are sincere. They have been for those people since first hearing about the Highland Park massacre. But they are no longer enough. They must be a means to something more. They are not an end.

What more can I do?

I feel so powerless each time I learn about another mass shooting and murder. There were several other mass shootings on the 4th of July this year-two in Chicago. And there will be more and more this year using weapons of mass destruction, weapons of war, that are legal in this “Christian” country.

I have arrived at an idea of what I can do. It will have little impact on the larger society, and it will most likely change nothing. I have no power. But I have my single vote.

Soon I will contact every person running for public office, or their campaign office, and whose names will appear on my ballot this Fall. It won’t take long. I have only one question that requires a one-word answer.

“If elected or re-elected, will you vote to make legal assault weapons and military-style weapons illegal? Yes or no?” I simply want a one-word answer: yes or no. If I get some political babble, and not a one-word answer, I will mark that down as a “no”. If I am invited to go to the candidate’s website, that, too, is a “no”. I will vote only for the “yes” people regardless of political party.

Enough is enough.

The only power I have is my vote.

Yes.

-John Cusick

His chaotic leadership style, his reliance on lies and bluster, and his unwillingness to follow the rules were well known long before he became leader of the Conservative Party. His party made a devil’s bargain to bring in someone they thought was a winner despite knowing that he was unfit to hold office, hoping that the grownups in the room could keep his worst instincts under control. It was a foolish bargain that has ultimately damaged both country and party. I hope we can move on, and the damage hasn’t perhaps been as bad to our system as the damage that Donald Trump caused to the U.S. system; but both our unwritten constitution and the increasingly tenuous union that holds the four nations of the United Kingdom together remain under considerable strain as a direct consequence of his three years in office.

A period of boring, normal government—irrespective of who’s in power—would be welcome.

no he didn’t ‘have to’

what he did, in fact, was demonstrate fear

if he was sure and ‘right’ in his judgment, he should be able to face a crowd easily.
instead he slunk out the back - won’t face dissent at all.

he clearly doesn’t have the courage of his convictions to address those he’s just ‘judged’. easier to keep them nameless and faceless

Article proposes that Facebook is screwed because Zuckerberg is a robot with an EQ of zero who can’t help but fail due to this deficit.

“Realistically, there are probably a bunch of people at the company who shouldn’t be here.”

That’s a powerful sound bite from Mark Zuckerberg directed at Meta and Facebook employees. It was part of broader comments the CEO made at a recent weekly employee Q&A session (which which my Inc. colleague Jason Aten first reported on a couple of days ago). Zuckerberg also announced severe cost-cutting measures and increased pressure on employees to execute as the company braces for tough times ahead.

“If I had to bet, I’d say that this might be one of the worst downturns that we’ve seen in recent history,” Zuckerberg said. “Part of my hope by raising expectations and having more aggressive goals, and just kind of turning up the heat a little bit, is that I think some of you might decide that this place isn’t for you, and that self-selection is OK with me.”

At first glance, Zuckerberg’s comments may seem like par for the course with a global recession on the horizon. But it actually reveals signs of a major problem, one that could severely damage Meta’s outlook for years to come, namely:

Let’s break down why these comments lack emotional intelligence and empathy—and what lessons you as a business owner can take away from it, to help your company not only survive the next few years, but set itself up for future success.

In just six months, the 2022 economy has already matched or exceeded the number of jobs created every year this century except 2014, the year that the “job destroying” Obamacare went into full effect (and actually goosed job creation by injecting billions of dollars into the economy) and last year while we were recovering jobs lost during the pandemic. Over the last year and a half, all of the jobs lost in 2020 have now been recovered.

when the inevitable starts

forget rates per 100,000 and go with absolute numbers

annual gun deaths in the US about 40k
in japan TOTAL gun deaths around 20 or so. (that’s not 20k, that’s 20)

part of the story is what this guy had to go through to make the weapon.
and how well protected Abe was, or should have been or needed to be.

But Japan doesn’t have weekly or daily mass shootings like we do, so there’s that.

The real point is of course you wont stop every single gun death.
any more than you’ll stop every single abortion no matter how draconian or absurd you make the laws.

so if we’re ‘trying’ with abortion, why not with guns?

can’t we try and save a few lives? - maybe cut the 40k number in half?

we cant even get the regulations we’ve agreed to regulate to work

“There were over 1 million opportunities for someone to buy a gun from a licensed dealer without a completed background check in 2020 and 2021,” NBC News reports.

“In all, 1,002,274 background checks — or 4.2 percent — took longer than three business days in 2020 and 2021, a higher share than any other period since at least 2014… After the third business day, federal law allows dealers to sell weapons while the background check is still pending, which potentially puts weapons in the hands of people who can’t legally own a gun because of mental illness or their criminal history.”

Recession fears again overblown:

The issue with inflation is easing because gas prices continue dropping. GOP shitposting and talking down the economy with hopes that it’ll screw Democrats in November is based on wishful thinking and obstructionism.

Reality is that the economy continues growth, recovering nearly all the jobs lost under Trump and his disastrous handling of covid and the economic disruptions. Now, we’re seeing continued growth and demand for energy. Russia’s screwed as oil prices also are coming down, which means inflation eases as energy prices are a core factor of inflation (CPI).

I doubt that’s what’s going to bring FB down; it’s the fact that people are losing interest in it. A friend posted that she was quitting FB because she wasn’t seeing posts from those she knew but instead was being overwhelmed by reels, ads, and suggestions of items that might interest her, based on algorithms that clearly do not understand her actual interests. Platforms become popular, engage many viewers, and then just as suddenly fall off the cliff because readers become bored or fads change and something new comes along to take control, temporarily. We are fragmenting as a society and it’s not clear what, if anything, will bring us together.

Recession fears again overblown:

[Embedded content]

The issue with inflation is easing because gas prices continue dropping. GOP shitposting and talking down the economy with hopes that it’ll screw Democrats in November is based on wishful thinking and obstructionism.

Reality is that the economy continues growth, recovering nearly all the jobs lost under Trump and his disastrous handling of covid and the economic disruptions. Now, we’re seeing continued growth and demand for energy. Russia’s screwed as oil prices also are coming down, which means inflation eases as energy prices are a core factor of inflation (CPI).

Fuck the GOP.

I figure that, because our workforce shrank so much, we’ve got an entire contraction to go through before we even get to a recession. There will be a lot of small businesses close and those employees move into open spots at surviving places before we can even talk about the workforce being affected.

Fuck the GOP.

That is almost a bit of a catch 22. Gas prices are dropping because of the risk of recession. Output has not increased substantially, so the future price is building in an assumed decrease in demand due to recession. If the recession doesn’t materialize and output doesn’t increase, gas prices will rebound again.

That was what Ronald Reagan did with the Fundamentalist Christians in 1980.

Then he tossed their agenda aside.

But they decided they weren’t gonna get fooled again and started out insinuating their people into all aspects of public life: politics, public administration, education, the military, etc.

It has borne fruits: they have taken over the USAF Academy, imposed their agenda on various school boards, have run of SCOTUS and had one of their own, Mike Pence, a dicky heartbeat away from the Presidency.

Even as the oil companies are sitting on nearly 10,000 leases spanning millions of acres. They can’t find enough workers to expand refining capacity either, and they don’t want to spend to expand that capacity, because it’s costly.

Also, high energy prices sustain the domestic US energy production/refining capabilities, because it’s far more costly to deliver a barrel of oil in the US produced domestically than it is to get same quality oil from Saudi Arabia. If prices collapse, US production collapse, because pumping costs more than it would be to sell it. That’s why Trump implored the Saudis to cut production during the early pandemic - to keep the price high.

Sigh, Florida Cop…

A Florida police officer was caught drunk on-duty after his colleagues found him swerving down the street in a police cruiser while five times over the legal limit authorities said.

Oscar Mayorga, 25, of the Apopka Police Department was pulled over on July 4 when a local resident saw the car running stop signs and called the cops, saying he was ‘all over the road’.

He is later said to have confessed to drinking three tall boys, leaving him close to five times over the legal limit. Mayorgas was scheduled to work a shift at his local police department that evening, and allegedly said that he’d be fine as long as he left a six hour gap between having drinks and starting his shift.

To blow a 0.391g/210L, or nearly five times the legal limit of 0.08g isn’t just a few drinks. A “light” drinker would be passed out.

“Vince McMahon, World Wrestling Entertainment Inc.’s longtime leader, agreed to pay more than $12 million over the past 16 years to suppress allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity, an amount far larger than previously known,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Mr. McMahon’s wife, Linda McMahon, helped build the company and was WWE’s chief executive until she stepped down in 2009 for the first of two unsuccessful campaigns for the Senate. She served as head of the Small Business Administration under former President Donald Trump.”

The Republicans are for free enterprise, but not free people. And that is their fundamental problem.

“For Republicans, it’s businesses that ought to be free of barriers to freely pursue commerce, but citizens must be burdened with barriers to freely exercising their rights, like the right to vote.”

“Businesses must be trusted to act in any way they wish, but women cannot be trusted to make even their own health care decisions.”

“Business must be free to make contractual agreements, but individuals are not free to contract in marriage to whomever they may love.”

“Businesses must be free to take risks, without regard to the size of the consequences, but individuals cannot be free to engage in personal risk-taking - like using marijuana - regardless of how small and isolated the costs may be.”

“They do not understand that you cannot be the freedom party if you want to regulate the most intimate and sacred aspects of people’s personal lives.”

The GOP hasn’t been the party of freedom since at least Nixon. They did convince some stupid people that freedom means spreading a deadly disease, but they’ve never actually been for freedom during my adult lifetime.

Well damn it.

My very dear friend left yesterday for 3 weeks in Italy. I received a text from her this morning. She’s positive for covid. I know she’s vaxxed and 1 booster. She wanted a second booster in May because she went to Florida for a graduation. She couldn’t get the second booster b/c she’s under 50. Not sure if she was able to get the second booster in June.

From John Pavlovitz on Facebook. It’s long so I’ll hide it.

An open letter to white evangelicals: We’re done with you.
By North Carolina Pastor John Pavlovitz
Dear White Evangelicals,
I need to tell you something: People have had it with you. They’re done. They want nothing to do with you any longer, and here’s why: They see your hypocrisy, your inconsistency, your incredibly selective mercy, and your thinly veiled supremacy.
For eight years they watched you relentlessly demonize a Black President; a man faithfully married for 26 years; a doting father and husband without a hint of moral scandal or the slightest whiff of infidelity. They watched you deny his personal faith convictions, argue his birthplace, and assail his character—all without cause or evidence.
They saw you brandish Scriptures to malign him and use the laziest of racial stereotypes in criticizing him. And through it all, White Evangelicals—you never once suggested that God placed him where he was, you never publicly offered prayers for him and his family, you never welcomed him to your Christian Universities, you never gave him the benefit of the doubt in any instance, you never spoke of offering him forgiveness or mercy, your evangelists never publicly thanked God for his leadership, your pastors never took to the pulpit to offer solidarity with him, you never made any effort to affirm his humanity or show the love of Jesus to him in any quantifiable measure.
You violently opposed him at every single turn—without offering a single ounce of the grace you claim as the heart of your faith tradition. You jettisoned Jesus as you dispensed damnation on him.
And yet you give carte blanche to a white Republican man so riddled with depravity, so littered with extramarital affairs, so unapologetically vile, with such a vast resume of moral filth—that the mind boggles.
And the change in you is unmistakable. It has been an astonishing conversion to behold: a being born again.
With him, you suddenly find religion. With him, you’re now willing to offer full absolution. With him, all is forgiven without repentance or admission. With him, you’re suddenly able to see some invisible, deeply buried heart. With him, sin has become unimportant, and compassion no longer a requirement. With him, you see only Providence.
And White Evangelicals, all those people who have had it with you—they see it all clearly. They recognize the toxic source of your inconsistency.
They see that pigmentation and party are your sole deities. They see that you aren’t interested in perpetuating the love of God or emulating the heart of Jesus. They see that you aren’t burdened to love the least, or to be agents of compassion, or to care for your Muslim, gay, African, female, or poor neighbors as yourself.
They see that all you’re really interested in doing is making a God in your own ivory image and demanding that the world bow down to it. They recognize this all about white, Republican Jesus—not dark-skinned Jesus of Nazareth.
And I know you don’t realize it, but you’re digging your own grave these days; the grave of your very faith tradition.
Your willingness to align yourself with cruelty is a costly marriage. Yes, you’ve gained a Supreme Court seat, a few months with the Presidency as a mouthpiece, and the cheap high of temporary power—but you’ve lost a whole lot more.
You’ve lost an audience with millions of wise, decent, good-hearted, faithful people with eyes to see this ugliness. You’ve lost any moral high ground or spiritual authority with a generation. You’ve lost any semblance of Christlikeness. You’ve lost the plot. And most of all you’ve lost your soul.
I know it’s likely you’ll dismiss these words. The fact that you’ve even made your bed with such malevolence, shows how far gone you are and how insulated you are from the reality in front of you. But I had to at least try to reach you. It’s what Jesus would do.

Overturning Roe v Wade was also a case of no fewer than four SCOTUS nominees telling the Senate that they considered it “settled law” when they damn well knew they were going to overturn it as soon as they had a majority.

Fuckers.

The most aggravating part is that EVERYONE knew that they were lying and were specifically there to overturn our right to privacy, seizing control of women’s bodies from them as the first evil step. It was a charade, and everyone in Congress went along with it.

No, nothing could do that. The EO basically tells a bunch of federal agencies to emphasize educating people and strengthening what abortion services they can provide, funding and legal resources for providers and patients, and similar.

It was done in such a way that they can’t be convicted of perjury, because what they said was technically true, and the question was intentionally phrased so that the justices-to-be could answer it in that fashion and not be lying when they later overturned the decision.

It also was done so that the GOP senators who confirmed them would not have the issue hung around their ears until it was an accomplished deed.

I found the fellow more aggravating than funny…but probably for the same reason that I can’t even watch Colbert or Trevor Noah or John Oliver lately: not because I don’t find them funny, but because the topics they are trying to be humorous about are SO massively frustrating and depressingly soul-crushing that even their best efforts to lighten things up fall short.

Do-Something Crowd on SCOTUS overturning Roe/Casey in Dobbs - Biden, do something!

Biden:

Yeah, he’s not only issued statements demanding action, but he’s submitted an EO protecting women’s access to health care. He’s also stumping to expand Democrats’ control of Senate, and looking to gain at least 2 more seats, because that means he’d have the numbers to get around the filibuster.

I had no business being there with accomplished statesmen and politicians, and now need to remind everyone that I’m still around and should have been prosecuted along with hubby for lying on security clearance forms that were rightfully rejected because everyone in Trumpworld was corrupt and compromised.

I’m not sure I get this. Either his ass is really in the sling and he wants to publicly take as many people down with him, or he’s going to go hostile witness and try to embarrass the 1/6 Committee on live TV.

I look at someone like Rhodes as completely and utterly willing to martyr himself for Trump. Coopering with 1/6 seems antithetical to a loon like that. Am I being too out there/paranoid with this view?

No. Insisting on something like smacks of someone trying for a sacrifice play knowing that the optics of whatever lies he spits out will sell so much better than anything the committee says or does in an attempt to stop him. And any punishment levied on him for perjury after he does it will be much less and probably pardoned the moment the GOP has the ability to do it.

heh. The person has failed to figure out that if you want a “non woke” history go dig up something written 150 years ago when it was still the mythic West and ordained by God that the whites were meant to conquer the Indians and the Great Plains by whatever means necessary.

(And please ignore those Spaniard-descended people who have already been here for a century or two and those Negroes who are also doing quite a bit of work as well.)
