Folder Marked ‘Classified’ Apparently on Display at Donald Trump’s 45-Themed Bar

Tucked in the lobby of Manhattan’s Trump Tower is a bar called 45 Wine and Whiskey. At this Hard Rock Cafe knockoff, visitors can enjoy walls plastered with Trump presidential memorabilia that was likely snuck out of the White House—including a folder marked “classified.”

Looks like the G-Men need to pay a little visit to Trump Tower.

And maybe take a peek at what’s actually buried in Ivana’s grave. Like that old saying goes….”Ex marks the spot”.

An email went out at work today that made me cringe a little. The company used to have what they called Project Christmas Spirit, a Christmas party for the employee and their families, especially for kids under 12. The company would buy some toys and you could bring your kids up and get one if you wish.

That ended due to covid, but they are going to try to do it this year. Here’s the cringe: the email said “the OriGinal Project Christmas Spirit.” Yes, they are trying to OG it.

A look at some 縄文 (Jomon, use Google translate to get the proper pronunciation as the video voices do not pronounce it right) pottery from thousands of years ago:

I believe the oldest decorated pottery is from Japan.

These inhabitants of Japan are ancestors of the current Japanese, but not the only ancestors. Migrations from the Korean peninsula brought the bronze-age culture that built the Kofun (the huge burial mounds.)

re: #24 sagehen

According to my crossword puzzle dictionary, the ancestors of the current Japanese are the Ainu.

There have always been arguments over where the Ainu fit into the rest of the ancestry of those we call Japanese.

But DNA studies have shown that the Japanese have a north-south gradient in ancestry. Those in the south, by which we mean the islands like Okinawa, are at one end of an axis, and those in the north in Hokkaido are the other end.

But since the Meiji era in-country migration has blurred out much of the difference.

The Jomon were almost certainly part of the northward migration from Taiwan. The other big migration from there (or close to there) going southeast, i.e. all the way to Polynesia.

But for sure the modern Japanese are descended from the integration of bronze-age culture (and people) from the Korean peninsual.

This leaves the Ainu as remnants of a mysterious group, possibly with Jomon ancestry but also with ancestry from elsewhere in far north-east Asia.

The Ainu were the “savages” to classical Japanese. The Japanese culture being transformed tremendously by the importation of Buddhism from China, which brought Chinese writing.

So the Ainu were the illiterate, the barbarians, to the educated Japanese. It’s a parallel with our own past.

The reason, at least the major reason, why I’ve become fixated on the Rings of Power hate of late is because it is no isolated phenomenon.

This hate is part of the MAGA swell that Trump rode to the White House and which still won’t abate.

A very great percentage, perhaps over 80%, of the twitter users who are raging against RoP are, when I inspect their twitter timeline, right wing religious or full-on MAGA-fascist types.

And the reason is very straightforward. The literal fascists and the fascist-adjacent have always loved Tolkien.

The reasons are not difficult to discern.

Tolkien was a racialist, and classist. His specialty being the languages of northern Europe and his avocation being creative writing exploiting many northern European mythological ideas, his stories often sound like they are indeed white-stories for white-people.

Although of course he was first and foremost a religious Catholic and his major work, LOTR, is a full on basket of religious ideas hiding shallowly below an adventure story.

So Tolkien himself was no fascist, his self declared identity vacillating between anarchist and monarchist.

But because his stories embodies such a great quantity of the ancestral mythos of northern and western Europe, the Nazis thought he was one of them. And the generic fascists really gravitate towards the classist nature, the belief that some people are just better than others and thus should rule over (not democratically) the society as a whole.

The anti-democratic nature of Tolkien is easy to identify, he didn’t hide it.

That he thought himself better than others was also not hidden.

That did not mean he believed in apartheid or segregation, as the famous quote I keep posting on Twitter makes clear.

So to Tolkien the difference between people are not the color of their skin, but their religiosity and education and their upbringing, etc.

It’s a distinction the racists miss (on purpose probably.)

So the bottom line is that (most of) the hatred toward RoP happens because the MAGA types want to believe that Tolkien intended LOTR to be inhabited by white people, and ruled by men. If a female is a leader, like Galadriel, she is to be some ethereal, non-realistic female.

And that is the culture war that is happening. The cries of reverse-racism over having some actors who have too-dark skin, who dare to take the place of a white actor, for either an elf or dwarf or Numenorean, is part of the same chorus on right-wing media outlets who decry BLM, etc.

I will not link it here, but an example can be found in a post at VDARE, whose title is:

Madea Goes To Mordor: Amazon’s LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Celebrates The Great Replacement Coming To Middle-Earth

Make no mistake, the racist-right is stoking the RoP hate.

Sure, there are others who have problems with RoP being called “LOTR” when in fact Tolkien did not write anything in the screenplay.

Also, there is the young male gamer type who really, really have distorted views of women independent of any racist-right propaganda. So when a show has as the lead characters females who don’t act like they expect they don’t like it.

Annuity rates for Multi-State Lottery have gone up again. They now are getting quotes of 1.812.

The state lotteries love this because it means they can advertise higher jackpot values while doling out less cash.

The overall rise in interest rates now hints at me that there will be a squeeze on a lot of people living on fixed incomes or retirement.

I don’t know what interest rates will do between now and the election but I think we have a pretty good guess they will go up. How high now is the question.

Mortgage rates will continue to creep up. Unsecured loans (e.g. credit cards) certainly will continue with the interest rate increases.

A lot of people will be pressured.

How this will affect the election I do not know.

Americans have now gotten so used to cheap money that a return to interest rates similar to the prior century will be a shock.

A tablespoon of balsamic vinegar down the hatch neutralizes it almost immediately. A friend of mine here in town swears by almonds, but I haven’t tried that one yet.

New York Times: “The Republicans’ reaction to Mr. Biden’s speech was remarkable. For years, they stood quietly by as Mr. Trump vilified and demonized anyone who disagreed with him — encouraging supporters to beat up protesters; demanding that his rivals be arrested; accusing critics of treason and even murder; calling opponents ‘fascists’; and retweeting a supporter saying ‘the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.’ But they rose up as one on Thursday night and Friday to complain that Mr. Biden was the one being divisive.”

That was FORTY minutes ago and he’s still not here. The guy is 44, you’d think at some point in his life he would work on being more punctual.

I’m giving him another 10 mins before I cancel and do other stuff today.

It’s a passive/aggressive way of establishing Agency over other people. It shows you that HIS time is much more valuable than YOURS.

Just when you think they might have learned something from Challenger.

Well it’s a very big and very expensive call, but the only one she can realistically make. This is just a CYA move so she say, we tried everything we could think of short of sending a team out to the ML and replacing the seal and that wasn’t feasible either.

Popular Twitch streamer Clara “Keffals” Sorrenti is known to be the target of harassment from time to time, and a game developer has had their game removed from Steam after a transphobic rant pointing to the trans livestreamer. This rant was spotted in Domina’s patch notes by several fans that read the text that was mostly irrelevant to the changes made to the game before Steam promptly took action.

Keffals is among a growing list of swatted Twitch streamers to publicly speak about their experiences, but the negativity towards the livestreamer continues despite such a risk being taken with her life already. The Twitch community quickly discovered that those targeting Keffals came from a group called Kiwi Farms, but the popular Twitch streamer may face a new threat in Nicholas Gorissen from Dolphin Barn Incorporated. Because of the statements made in Domina’s patch notes, Steam users can no longer purchase the simulation strategy game and Dolphin Barn Incorporated has been promptly removed as a developer on the storefront as well.

This game looks very basic, but this is a big step for augmented reality gaming.

The passthrough video is black and white because the Quest 2 has black and white cameras. It’s pretty impressive that it looks as good as it does considering that the image is coming from four tiny cameras in the corners of the headset that get merged and cleaned up to remove distortion.

Not just any plane he stole, either. That’s a Beech King Air, which serves as a regional airliner. Complex twin turbo-prop. And he dropped off the radar 42 minutes ago (CDT) over rural Tennessee.

What was outstanding about this, to a degree, was that Steam *did* take action. They are notoriously lax about enforcing standards and generally allow most forums for various games to self-enforce. This particular developer has been ranting for a while, and it finally crossed a line that Steam decided to act on.

It hasn’t helped the guy that a lot of the reaction is of the “point and laugh” variety. He even drew the attention of Jim Sterling (The “Jimquisition” is his YT series generally pointing attention at bad games and bad behavior by game developers and companies.)
