The title says it all, and it’s a horrifying issue I’ve been yelling about for years, so here’s a deep dive into just how scary this is.

Hi. In today’s episode, we look at the escalating attacks from conservatives on school boards, and examine what the right actually wants to do with public education. (Note: it’s not good!)

“The Boys” star Erin Moriarty says she feels silenced, dehumanized and paralyzed by rampant sexually offensive commentary online by fans of the show.

Moriarty, in a post Tuesday night to Instagram, shared a brief article she says was written by a social media user that highlighted the issues she acknowledged in her caption.

“I do feel silenced,” wrote Moriarty, who plays “The Boys” superhero Starlight in the hit Amazon Prime Video series, which streamed its third season this summer. “I do feel dehumanized. I do feel paralyzed. I’ve put blood, sweat, and tears into this role (over & over & over again), I’ve grown UP in this character’s shoes.”

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said he would not support legislation codifying same-sex marriage while indicating he believes the Supreme Court case giving same-sex couples the right to marry was “wrongly decided,” the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Johnson said he put out his July statement saying he wouldn’t oppose the legislation to get the press “off my backs.”

As I mentioned last week, the wife and I went up to Lake Erie this past weekend. A front moved in a couple hours after we arrived and it was overcast a good bit of the time and sporadic rain. Our hotel was right across the street from Presque Isle Downs & Casino, so most of our time was spent there :-)

Let’s just say I came back with more money than I went with, lucky me. Hit one pretty large jackpot and a couple small ones.

Here is a panoramic view I took of the horse track when we first got to the casino. No racing this past weekend, but Sunday morning I did see a few horses out going through their paces.

As a college student, Blake Masters ― now the GOP candidate for U.S. Senate in Arizona ― defended a classmate’s skepticism of the “official story” of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He also told his roommates that voting was pointless and often “immoral,” railed against health inspections as “bullshit,” and said America circa 2006 was “fascist.”

The messages were sent to the group email list of Columbae, a left-leaning vegan co-op at Stanford University where Masters lived and where the housemates made decisions on a collective basis. The emails, dozens of which were obtained by HuffPost, show Masters’ embrace of contrarianism and devout libertarian ideals even before he became an acolyte of venture capitalist and democracy skeptic Peter Thiel, whose millions funded Masters’ campaign in the Arizona primary.

Masters is now trailing Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) in public polls as Thiel and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) argue over who will fund his efforts, since Kelly has a more than 12-to-1 advantage in cash on hand for the final months of the race, according to Federal Election Commission data. A Kelly victory would provide a major boost to Democratic hopes to maintain control of the 50-50 Senate.

I love my Garmin forerunner. Does all sorts of health tracking (heart rate, blood oxygen, breathing), built-in gps, maps/navigation, mp3 music player, touchless payments, and a battery that lasts a week between charges (if you turn off the blood oxygen sensor which is an energy hog). Had it almost 3 years now.

I never liked watches, until last year when undiagnosed afib landed me in the hospital for 3 weeks. I now wear a watch that has afib detection and ecg built in almost 24 hours a day. It isn’t an apple watch because I am in the android ecosystem, but it is well worth it if it can help prevent another extended hospital stay. I am also not a fan of jewelry in general. If it doesn’t serve some function I don’t want to carry it on me.

Trump’s background will probably be similar, though I imagine if Trump could direct the artist, they’ll be forced to do a Naughton.

And the photo editing will be absolutely exquisite.

Quite a few portraits have a neutral background, with the president either sitting or standing.

Exhibit D. A unhinged rant at a rally for OZ and what’s his fuck. The venue held 5000 people. It wasn’t full. Clownstick claimed there was 20k in there and 20k outside watching on jumbotrons. LOL no. Meidas touch was driving a truck with an screen on the side explaining the stolen classified documents over a loudspeaker. Number of MAGAs who confronted them or threw anything at them. Zero.

Every time he has one of these Hitler rallies the number of people get smaller and smaller, he’s down to like a few thousand MAGAt deadheads who follow him around like he’s Gerry Garcia.

Exhibit E. At that last rally he also rambled for 4 hours about the same shit over and over worse than normal and spent at least an hour ranting about Mitch McConnell.

This is the beginning of the end. Election day 2022 was the end of the beginning.

TO add to this post from a few days ago….

Apples the same, perhaps even worse.

Highland Park doesn’t sound so good these days.

Officers responded to a wellness check at 1850 Green Bay Road and found blood under the door and signs of forced entry into the apartment, Highland Park police said.

Two people inside were pronounced dead, police said. Authorities have not released their names and causes of death.

Police said a person of interest was in the unit and was arrested.

Rhodes fired his current attorneys because they won’t file frivolous motions or pursue the Ray Epps conspiracy theory. If you don’t know, Epps is a Trumper who was at the insurrection, and a theory developed that he was a government plant. As a result, his life was ruined and he now lives out of an RV, running from his fellow Trumpers.

My daughter’s Girl Scout troop used to sing a shortened version of this song. (Insert eyeroll here)
I just used to laugh quietly to myself about the Lord giving a bunch of 11 year olds hard cider.
Which reminds me of a time when my kids and a friend were exploring the back of said friend’s family’s refrigerator and found the forgotten cider which had begun to ferment.

Where do you think you get horse-apples from? Having sat through a few lectures on creating apple varietals, I am comfortable starting that 100% of apples come from grafted trees. There are (from memory) around ~4500 (too lazy to do any research) identified varietals grown in the US. The vast majority of those do not make beyond am extremely local area and many are just tiny orchards that may or may not be harvested.

I recall being stung on my mouth as a wee lad eating lunch in an abandoned apple orchard in the Blue Ridge Mountains on a blue blazed trail off the Apalachian Trail.

As mentioned, one very important purpose of the apple orchards back in the 19th and 18th centuries was the production of cider. Which became hard cider. Which then became vinegar. Which was critical in laying in food supplies for the winter via pickling.

According to legal experts, the Tennessee law has no exception to protect the life or well-being of the mother but does offer an affirmative defense as protection if the procedure is done to save the woman’s life or protect her from grievous bodily harm. Is the distinction between an “exception” and an “affirmative defense” a mere technicality or does it have serious ramifications in the real world?

It’s like the difference between “stand your ground” (where you just declare you had a good reason to shoot and the prosecutor has to try to prove otherwise) and a self-defense claim where the presumption is in favor of the prosecution, and you have to prove your good reason why it was necessary.

Said Trump: “Not only did the FBI steal my Passports in the FBI Raid and Break-In of my home, Mar-a-Lago, but it has just been learned through court filings that they also improperly took my complete and highly confidential medical file and history, with all the bells and whistles (at least they’ll see that I’m very healthy, an absolutely perfect physical specimen!), plus personal Tax Records (Illegal to take), and lawyer/client/privileged information, a definite NO, NO.”

He concluded: “Days of the Soviet Union!”

Healthcare in Turkey consists of a mix of public and private health services. Turkey introduced universal health care in 2003. Known as Universal Health Insurance Genel Sağlık Sigortası, it is funded by a tax surcharge on employers, currently at 5%. Public-sector funding covers approximately 75.2% of health expenditures.

Why ion earth would you think that Erdogan was against health care? He’s bad, but he’s not a Republican FFS.
