Klannie Oakley’s goal—take out Planned Parenthood.

Lauren Boebert’s first bill of the year centers on defunding Planned Parenthood

alternet.org

In a press release sent out on Friday, Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo announced her first bill of 2023, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act. As detailed in the release, the intent of this bill is to effectively block federal tax dollars from going to Planned Parenthood by redirecting them to community health centers.

“The nation’s largest abortion provider has no business receiving taxpayer dollars,” Boebert said in a statement issued along with the announcement of the new bill. “Planned Parenthood claims these funds go to healthcare for women, but last year, Planned Parenthood performed a record number of abortions while also reducing the number of well-woman exams and breast cancer screenings it performed. Instead of funding Planned Parenthood, my bill will redirect this funding to community health centers that actually meet the health needs of women across the country.”

The state of science education in this country has gone steadily downtown since the atheistic LEFT progressives took control of the schools, and shows NO SIGN of restoring correct scientific discipline.

Students are not taught the math they need, the patience and diligence needed for long term observation and testing that is needed in science. It’s all razz-ma-tazz, flashy fluffy presentations for people who been trained for three-minute attention spans. Schools are pushing Neo-Lysenkoism, teaching students that Al Gore, a half-educated politician, is more improtant than scientists who’ve devoted their careers to the study of weather, climate studies and analysis of ACTUAL data, not easily manipulated computer models. The LEFT is teaching nothing more than plain old superstition - that things happen willy-nilly with no history or cause and effect. With that, people run like Chicken Little from one crisis to another, easily fooled and frightened by one crisis afetr another.

And as usual, who gets the blame for this abysmal situation, the decades now of the Left’s March Through the Institutions?

First Native American woman in space steps out on spacewalk | Associated Press

The first Native American woman in space ventured out on a spacewalk Friday to prep the International Space Station for more solar panels.

NASA astronaut Nicole Mann emerged alongside Japan’s Koichi Wakata, lugging an equipment bag. Their job was to install support struts and brackets for new solar panels launching this summer, part of a continuing effort by NASA to expand the space station’s power grid.

Mann, a Marine colonel and test pilot, rocketed into orbit last fall with SpaceX, becoming the first Native American woman in space. She is a member of the Wailacki of the Round Valley Indian Tribes in Northern California.

Wakata, Japan’s spaceflight leader with five missions, also flew up on SpaceX. He helped build the station during the shuttle era.

Friday was the first spacewalk for both.

The pair will depart the space station in another month or so.

You really opened up a can of worms when you brought up the rebuttal to Ben Stein’s movie, Mr. Johnson. There is a whole lot of whinging, misdirection, name-calling, &c. It seems a commentator named Zombie is trying to hold his own on defending evolution by natural selection (and going so far as to posit that trying to insert religion into biology classes is not only un-American, but will lead to the destruction of the USA’s preëminence in the science) but is drowning in non sequiturs.

A white pickup truck with a rack of roof lights blazing pulled up to an electrical substation in the small town of Morton, Washington, about 70 miles south of Seattle, on June 16. In the predawn dark next to the city cemetery, a man in a dark hoodie and baseball cap hopped out of the truck. He broke a steel gate apart, likely with a crowbar later found at the scene, and walked inside the fenced facility, on his way to sabotaging its high-voltage transformers.

Electrical substations transform high-voltage electricity to the lower voltages that keep America’s lights on, its food cold, its medical devices operating, and its phones charged. Far-flung substations can be difficult to secure. Damaging even a single one can shut off critical services to thousands of people.

Attacks like the one in Morton are on the rise in the Northwest: There have been 15 since June, more than in the previous six years combined. The recent attacks make this region a hotspot for such activity, according to a joint investigation by KUOW and Oregon Public Broadcasting. In most cases, the motives aren’t known. But as the FBI and extremism researchers have noted, neo-Nazis have been calling for just such attacks.

“The individuals of concern believe that an attack on electrical infrastructure will contribute to their ideological goal of causing societal collapse and a subsequent race war in the United States,” according to an FBI memo obtained by KUOW and OPB.

More: FBI warned of neo-Nazi plots as attacks on Northwest grid spiked | KUOW

Remember when conservatives lost their shit in 2013 when the Obama administration’s Justice Department warned that the highest terrorist threat to the United States was from domestic right wing extremists? The Justice Dept. was spot on 10 years ago.

Henry Kissinger, otoh, will turn 100 on May 27 if he doesn’t die and go to hell between now and then.
I always thought Kissinger got too much of the credit for Nixon’s foreign policy achievements. He deserved some of the credit, no doubt, but many of the most positive and beneficial developments seem solidly rooted in Eisenhower’s vision of the future world, a vision that Nixon would have inherited and tried to pass on.
Of course, Kissinger had little or nothing to do with Nixon’s very real achievements in domestic policy (EPA etc.)

George Santos on Drag Pics: ‘I Was Young and I Had Fun’

George Santos has apparently admitted to his drag past—outside of a Wiki page this time. Asked by reporters on Saturday if he had ever been a “drag queen,” the embattled congressman told TMZ, “I was young and I had fun at a festival.” The notorious liar made clear he doesn’t like the label, however, telling the tabloid he “was not a drag queen.” The admission comes a day after Politico uncovered a Wikipedia page under a Santos pseudonym that talked of his success as a drag queen, while also boasting about a role on the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, after Santos initially denied the rumors.

Do you realize

Do you realize

Do you realize
That happiness makes you cry?
Do you realize
That everyone you know someday will die?

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes
Let them know you realize that life goes fast
It’s hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn’t go down
It’s just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do you realize?
Ah-ah-ah

Do you realize

Biden Called Republicans Basket Full Of Fiscal Dementia, And Fox News Is MAD (Wonkette, January 18, 2023)

Oh no, Fox News and Republicans are mad about a thing! Everybody sit down where you are so these white people can tell you their feelings.

On Martin Luther King Day, President Joe Biden said Republicans are “fiscally demented” — referring to their first bill, to make it easier for rich people to commit tax fraud, as well as bonkers proposals for a huge giant honking 30 percent national sales tax — and Fox News hasn’t stopped performatively shitting itself ever since. If you google “fiscally demented” right now, you get three top results, and they are from Fox News, Fox News, and Fox Business, respectively.

Speaking of Sundance, there’s this:

This is supposed to be based on a 1996 book, “The Cult at the End of the World,” by David Kaplan and Andrew Marshall, which is regrettably out of print. I read it when it first came out and the reporting on the crazy that was Aum Shinrikyo was mind-boggling. Now, 27 years later, comes a documentary in English (and Japanese), with both men involved. The documentary is getting mixed reviews. The person who tweeted this is one of the few Westerners who (a) understands Japanese, (b) has studied Aum in Japanese and (c) thinks that despite all of the doc’s defects, it has a chance of making it onto a US streaming service for wider distribution.

Nebraska Republicans just brought GOP one step closer to dethroning Ronna McDaniel

The Nebraska Republican Party stepped into the fight Saturday over picking the next chair of the Republican National Committee.

Trump rioter busted by massive stomach tattoo slapped with 78-month prison sentence

A Mississippi man who was among the first rioters to reach the Capitol Rotunda on January 6 has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for assaulting police officers guarding the U.S., the Department of Justice reported.

James McGrew, 40, of Biloxi, Mississippi and Carlsbad, California, also was ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Beryl A. Howell to serve 36 months of supervised release and pay a $5,000 fine and $2,000 in restitution. McGrew pleaded guilty last May 13 to felony assault.

McGrew was on parole for a past crime when he participated in the riot, according to court records, as Raw Story reported in October. He was convicted of shoplifting in 2011 and 2013 and vehicle theft in 2016.

McGrew was identified by the FBI with the help of video that showed him lifting his T-shirt to wipe his eyes during the riot. It revealed a massive tattoo with the lettering “King James” across his stomach, according to the FBI.

Nixon was experienced, intelligent, knowledgeable— but he was also an integral part of the Republican metamorphosis from the party that supported the rights of black Americans to the heir of the unreconstructed South and its Jim Crow heritage and a step toward the Trump Party, with his first VP Agnew.

I wonder if those of us who got COVID after being fully vaccinated and boosted (but before the bivalent booster was available) would also be subject to cardiac problems, especially if we had existing issues. (I had open heart surgery in 2007 for mitral valve repair).

The change in the party had already begun 4 years prior when Goldwater won several “Deep South” states running on a platform of opposition to the CRA and VRA. All Nixon did was see the opportunity and weaponize it, using the racial turmoil of 1968 to win fence-sitting racists over with promises of “stability” and “law & order.”

He really didn’t, all the “Southern Strategy” really was in the beginning was projecting the Dems as supporting the racial strife of the Civil Rights Era and wanting to further divide the country, while Repubs wanted to restore the “peace” that had existed prior to the 1960s. And really, that’s been their sales pitch ever since: “We want to take things back to that era of blissful ignorance that you all remember from your childhoods.”

The debate continues over whether Alec Baldwin is responsible for killing the cinematographer on the set of “Rust.”

yahoo.com

Many have argued that he should be responsible since you should always assume a gun is loaded unless you’ve personally verified it is not.

yahoo.com

Yahoo! has an article interviewing several actors and stage workers, noting that this is not the norm nor has it been in television and cinema, and has never been the industry practice. In fact, many actors have no idea how to check a gun, and some actors are literal children.

It appears that the manslaughter case is going to bring television and cinema practices front and centre for the defence.

That’s sort of the problem, he was an actor and producer for the film, which means he bears responsibility for the scenario playing out as it did through what is likely to be argued as negligence (possibly gross negligence) at trial. If his role in this tragedy had simply been as an actor, then he’d be in the clear as the authorities went after the assholes who hired a dimwit for an armorer based upon her dad’s reputation in the industry and then allowed her to use a prop gun to fire live ammunition plinking targets. But since he is the asshole who hired the dimwit, his ass is the one in the sling.

not just the racial strife; the anti-war people went over the top and handed him all kinds of ammunition for his law&order argument. With hindsight, it’s certainly easy to see that the Weathermen, SDS, etc, the bombings, the bank robberies, the school takeovers, were super counter-productive. They also gave a lot of oxygen to the argument of “why the fuck are taxpayers covering their tuition?”

Let’s be honest, they are against the idea of parenthood if you don’t have a net worth of seven figures or higher. If your crotch fruit does not emerge with a trust fund, a legacy admission at an Ivy League college, and a guaranteed future job at a Fortune 500 company, then they see them as nothing more than a drain on the system. You’re forgetting the bit where they’d spend respond the revelation that the shooter was a white guy with snark like “Yeah, but what’s his Islamic name?”, before spending the rest of the day getting gradually more angry as they found out that he was a stereotypical white domestic terrorist who’d been set off by conspiracy theories or had some beef with one of those targeted, before the Faux talking heads began steering the narrative to push further CTs about “false flags” and “lone wolves.”

Too unrealistic; gun-savvy viewers would trash the film, ratings and profits would suffer.

re: #157 PhillyPretzel

or use special effects.

Too expensive. It’s far cheaper to use a physical object, and again, less risk of getting called out for a lack of realism. Ironically, the stage blanks used by movies are extremely unrealistic in their own right; muzzle flashes from real bullets are far less dramatic.

These days they definitely should be using special effects. It’s not going to add much to movie costs. And they have guns with mechanisms that react a if they were fired.

Comedian DeRay Davis does a bit on Netflix about filming a scene for the show Empire in Chicago, The late director John Singleton wanted to use a “full load” for the blanks for realism and loudness. The scene is done, then Singleton hears more “shots.” Davis tells Singleton it wasn’t him. Realizing these are real bullets being fired nearby, Singleton immediately says one take is fine and gets the cast and crew out of the area.

re: #141 TarHellion

Speaking of the PGA, Golf dot com has a good article giving the latest on the lawsuit between the PGA and LIV Golf. Basically, they’re in the discovery phase and some facts have come out:

While it was broadly known that the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia was the majority owner of LIV Golf, only last week did it become clear that the PIF owns 93% of LIV. The PGA Tour has access to documents that spell out LIV’s governance and relationship with the PIF, referenced as the “subscription and sponsorship agreement.” The Tour can also see information concerning LIV’s budgets and the levels of PIF consent required to conduct business activities. The majority of these documents have remained confidential, which LIV would prefer to keep that way, for obvious reasons.

Now why is this important, besides the fact that the Saudis appear to be horning in on elite America’s favorite pastime? The article goes further:

but with a late-March deadline rapidly approaching, a recent snag has come in the form of a non-party: the governor of the PIF, Yasir Al-Rumayyan. There is some resistance to typical subpoena exercises because there is disagreement about how much can be asked of Al-Rumayyan and the PIF.

*snip*

At issue is how much Al-Rumayyan has acted on behalf of LIV — in communications with agents like Casey Wasserman and players like Bryson DeChambeau (both cited in recent Tour presentations), or negotiations with broadcasting executives. If he is playing a major role for LIV Golf, it seems theoretically easier to convince a judge to compel documents from him, despite him being a non-party tied to an international government.

Finally — and perhaps most importantly — is jurisdiction. Articles of Saudi law were recently presented to the court, and Al-Rumayyan himself issued a declaration that he could be subject to a 20-year prison stint if he were to disclose confidential government documents. Al-Rumayyan also stated that the PIF “does not have day-to-day control over LIV Golf Inc.,” which the PGA Tour is working to contend.

Of course there’s more at the link: golf.com

The tl;dr is this: The Saudi investment fund owns 93% of LIV Golf. However, in discovery, an issue has arisen as to whether the PGA can depose the head of the Saudi PIF and ask for document discovery. The PGA’s argument is something like: “Of course we should be able to, the PIF owns 93% of LIV Golf and it’s crazy to think that they’re not running the show” while LIV Golf’s response is, “uhm, he’s not that involved, even if his organization is 93% owner.” There are negotiations between the two parties over the scope of discovery and the judge is likely to issue an order that will come somewhere down in the middle if negotiations fail.

Personally, I’d rather see the PGA win this one—not because I think the PGA is so great, but because I am thinking it’s more along the lines of the devils you know versus the devils you don’t know. Your Mileage May Vary.

Joe Manchin boasts about high-fiving Kyrsten Sinema at Davos for protecting the Senate filibuster

On Sunday’s edition of NBC’s Meet the Press, United States Senator Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) rehashed his defense of the Senate filibuster after moderator Chuck Todd asked him about his “viral” high-five with Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-Arizona) at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Tuesday, January 17th.

“You just came from Davos. There’s a moment - I don’t know if you realize how that went viral between you and Senator Sinema - I want to show the moment here. I want to ask you about it. You guys are high-fiving. I think we’ll show it again here. And I think it was right after she was talking about the filibuster. Yeah. Is that what you were high-fiving and about?” Todd asked.

“Yeah, that was, I think. And after that and I didn’t, I saw her hand go up, and I said, sure. Because here the two of us are committed to protecting the filibuster, which I think protects checks and balances on the Executive Branch,” Manchin replied.

Blood is on you hands Boris Manchin and it’s on Natasha Sinema’s hands too.

LIV is sportswashing at its worst. And the tournaments are nothing more than glorified exhibition events. The good things to come out of it, though, include the PGA raising the prize money at certain events and giving the players a bit more say in how things should operate.

For his part, Poston is a great story. Played at a smaller school (Western Carolina), worked his way through the Korn Ferry Tour to earn his tour card, and came back from a terrible first half of the season to finish 15th at last year’s Tour Championship. Not the most dynamic guy but certainly one of the best damn putters on the tour.

After Sandy Hook, I lost all hope. The GOP isn’t afraid of them; this is a reliable part of their base and as long as they keep voting the right way, the GOP is fine with them. They literally do not care how many people die as a result. It’s no different than the DeathSantis appeal to anti-vaxxers. He isn’t afraid of them; he just weighs the benefit to himself and goes with it. Racists, anti-Semites, gun-nuts, anti-tax glibertarians, anti-abortion fanatics —- get enough different cults and one-issue blocs together, and you can win a majority of voters.

Last night a girl friend and I watched Till — a depiction of the evil that still haunts this nation and is embraced by so many. This cop shows that he is no different from the monsters that butchered Emmett Till.

Why are right wingers so upset about gas stoves? It’s not like you can shoot anyone with them or carry them in a holster…

It’s not the gas stoves themselves. They instinctively hate anything that liberals are for. They are literally the anti-liberals. Not even conservatives anymore, just anti-liberals.

This fucking pig reciting Frank Luntz’s Chicago talking point over and over.

‘You keep bringing up Chicago!’ CNN cuts off Republican for dismissing new gun laws following LA mass shooting

alternet.org

During a conversation about the mass shooting in Los Angles that took place late Saturday night and claimed at least ten lives, CNN “State of the Union” host Dana Bash called out at GOP lawmaker who attempted to brush off the need for new gun laws by pointing out gun violence in Chicago — a favorite rightwing talking point.”I was a counter-terrorism federal prosecutor and I was chair of Homeland Security,” the Texas Republican replied. “Chicago has probably some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, yet the highest murder rate. The way I look at it is we need the intelligence, we need information sharing, we need to connect the dots.”

“Every one of these cases, and I guarantee you’ll see it in this one as well, the shooter had warning signs along the way,” he continued. “We just didn’t respond or pick it up. In my judgment we can create a system. I introduced a bill that we can take published information on the internet, have an algorithm to stop the threat before it happens. That is a smart approach rather than violating Second Amendment rights. So, look, I hope we can get that passed — we’re seeing this movie way too many times.”

“What about a red flag law? A federal red flag law?” Bash asked.

“In a way what i’m talking about are red flags,” McCaul replied before adding, “Chicago, Illinois has red flags —”

“You keep bringing up Chicago, which I understand,” the CNN host interjected before adding, “But the guns in Chicago come in from other places because there is a patchwork of laws across the country, there’s no federal law.”

Russian stooge McCaul doesn’t care.

en.wikipedia.org

There was the 2017 Sutherland Springs church shooting in Texas, where Devin Patrick Kelley murdered 26 parishioners because of his anger against his mother-in-law who was a member of the church. This nation is sick and almost every attempt to deal with our madness is thwarted, mostly by a political party who doesn’t care about the body count as long as they maintain power.

Hmm….I pretty sure that when things like this happen, it’s usually not a good sign:

Multiple Hungarian media outlets reported that Hungary’s defence minister sacked hundreds of high-ranking military officers. The people concerned have two months to leave and will get 70 percent of their current salaries as a pension-like allowance even if they continue to work. The minister says the move served the rejuvenation and modernisation of the army. The opposition believes the government fired pro-NATO officers.
