Pull up my instagram account.

Notifacation. Cool!

New follower notice.

Check follower … “professional dominatrix” LOL. Ok, I don’t mind that inherently but that’s not my thing, really, I’m just not a sub … < block >

Be nice if I could get a cutie who likes artsy fartsy photos within a reasonable age range of me and not be _too_ far of a drive from here to follow me (for example the really cute, if too young (22 yo), gal from Britain who likes older guys was nice, but Britain? Hard to drive a Silverado Pickup to London! LOL!).

Sigh. Damned if I do, damned if I don’t… HAH!

watching from russia with love. got curious about pedro armandaraz’s character and fuuuck, that’s a downer….he knew at the time he had terminal neck cancer, so they shot all his scenes first. the movie shot in april of 63 and he was dead several months later from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the hospital. they had to use a double for some late-shot scenes. I think it’s wikipedia that mentions he was one of the folks in the Howard Hughes fiasco where they were all rolling around in radioactive sand. the statistics were something like 93 out of 210 dead within 25 years from cancer, but that actually sounds like pretty normal statistics for an age when everybody in the cast was chain-smoking.

When did the “People of Alabama” make this decision, pray tell? Was there an amendment to the Alabama Constitution that defined these beliefs? Did they elect politicians who explicitly campaigned on these specific points of theology? No? Then this is just, like, your opinion, man.

Donald Trump’s attorney requested to propose a new judgment on Wednesday in the former president’s civil fraud trial ruling, in which Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that Trump will be fined roughly $355 million.

On Wednesday, Clifford Robert filed a letter in the New York City civil court addressed to Engoron which argues Trump was “deprived” of the chance to speak out against the ruling before it was filed.

According to court records, Roberts requested the chance to propose a “counter-judgment” to Engoron’s ruling, adding that it would be “contrary to fundamental fairness” if not allowed to submit a counter-judgment.

“Defendants therefore request that the Court set a return date for the Proposed Judgment that affords Defendants sufficient time to submit a proposed counter-judgment. To deprive Defendants of the opportunity to submit a proposed counter-judgment would be contrary to fundamental fairness and due process.”

Newsweek has reached out to Trump’s spokesperson via email for comment.

Jim Jordan concedes FBI informant lied about Bidens when confronted by CNN host

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who is chair of the House Judiciary Committee, is refusing to relent in his investigations of President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, despite his primary source of information under indictment for lying to the FBI.

On Wednesday, CNN congressional reporter Manu Raju confronted Jordan about whether he still wanted to continue pursuing the Bidens despite FBI informant Alexander Smirnov’s indictment, and his recently unearthed connections to Russian intelligence agencies.

It accomplishes two things: De facto banning a bunch of things they don’t like, for one, but for another, it officially makes Christian nationalism the state religion. They’ve been hankering to kill the separation of church and state for a long time now, and this ruling gives them an opening to try to force it in.

Oh, yeah: The Conqueror; one of Hollywood’s classic turkeys, even irking its notoriously eccentric produce (from IMDB):

Eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes backed the film financially. He paid to ship 60 tons of soil to Hollywood for retakes, unaware it was radioactive. He later paid $12 million for every existing copy because of guilt after many cast and crew were diagnosed with cancer. He kept a tight hold on the film, not even allowing it to be shown on television, for years. Universal bought the rights to the film in 1979, and according to “The Hollywood Reporter”, it hadn’t been seen by the public for 21 years prior to the purchase (allegedly, Paramount obtained reissue rights in 1974). Hughes reportedly called the choice of the film’s shooting location the worst mistake of his life.

One bit of trivia I’ve never found out is what they did with those 60 tons of “hot” dirt: probably just bulldozed them out onto the RKO backlot….

What the hell even is a “counter-judgment”? I’m not a lawyer, but I’ve never heard of such a legal instrument before.

There are times when parties will both submit forms of judgment for the Court’s consideration. However, that is typically in the context of a declaratory judgment action where the Court is declaring the two parties rights vis-a-vis each other (for example, interpreting rights under a shareholder agreement). I’ve never heard of a “counter-judgment” in the context of monetary damages.

As Tom Nichols said:

Reinforcing my theory that millions of Americans are a bored lumpenbourgeoisie, who wish they were in a movie or anywhere but their own unsatisfying lives.

I feel like this steps over that Americans have been trained by their culture to view themselves collectively and individually as the Main Characters Of The World, and the various strains of reaction and inegalitarian thinking have over the past century refined the sense that Americans are collectively exceptional, but also individually exceptional such that inequality must be accepted as inevitable, into a spear point.

Of course they’re using the image of a paper-thin reactionary power fantasy, their ideas for the past two centuries have been of exactly the same quality, and their “histories” have through revision and curation have been turned into narratives with the same pulpy hedonism.

re: #70 Backwoods Sleuth

Barry Goldwater was eligible despite Arizona not being a state when he was born there.

(I meant to post this yesterday, but it got left unposted as I was running out to beat traffic.)

Arizona Territory was an “incorporated territory” — a territory to which the full force of the US constitution was held to apply, and would be en route to becoming a state once large enough. All of our remaining territories, except for uninhabited Palmyra Island (which was broken off from Hawaii Territory) are “unincorporated territories” to which only “fundamental” parts of the US constitution apply, and any other grants of rights are given by Congress. For example, no right to a jury trial, but you can’t arbitrarily be taken out and shot (any more than you are in the 50 states+DC).

As to why we have these distinctions….. we had a bunch of Supreme Court cases after the Spanish American war and some other territorial gains called the Insular Cases. Roughly speaking, they said “some people” are just too different, so we can’t apply the full constitution, as “they” won’t understand them. Basically, American had gained a whole bunch of highly populated territories that were mostly non-white and/or non-Christian, weren’t going to become mostly white, and didn’t know what to do with them.

The Phillipine Islands, when they had a local legislature had elected representatives for most of the country except for the “non-Christian Areas — I believe Muslim Mindanao”, which had appointed representatives.

Another idea is that an unincorporated territory could be given its independence or transferred like what happened to the Phillipine Islands or the American sector of West Berlin*.

Congress would determine whether a territory was incorporated implicitly. I’m trying to remember what the criteria were, but one of them might have been “granting of US citizenship to territorial inhabitants”. Strangely enough, though, one would think that would have made PR, VI, GU, and the Northern Mariana Islands incorporated, but they haven’t been. Someone sued to have Puerto Rico declared incorporated, but that went nowhere despite all the times the US government has passed laws that say, “This law or program equally applies to Puerto Rico as if it were a state.’

Hawaii (which was and is majority non-white, but which was effectively ruled by the white planter class) and the territories on the mainland were incorporated. The rest remained unincorporated.

*The American sector of Berlin was technically under ultimate US sovereignty, but delegated most of its power to the local West Berlin administration which aligned its laws to those of West Germany proper and had its own court system. There was one hijacking case which the US used its powers to try under the US constitution under the US District Court for Berlin.

Murder rate in NYC is 1/3 that of Phoenix (which is part of Maricopa County). Per capita rate NYC 3.33 per 100k. It’s 9.55 in Phoenix. (Wiki).

“DA Bragg is weak on crime. Therefore, we’re not going to send him the criminals he wants to charge, so that we can perpetuate the stereotype that he is weak on crime.” Nice work, if you can get it.

The BBC had to investigate a rape-church before the FBI got interested.

The FBI has launched a probe into a secretive Christian church that was the focus of a recent BBC investigation.

The church has no official name but is often referred to as The Truth or the Two by Twos.
The sect has recently been rocked by a sexual abuse scandal, with the names of hundreds of alleged perpetrators given to a hotline set up for survivors.
An ex-minister who abused a boy in the 1980s told the BBC he had “no reason” to be concerned about the FBI probe.

DeSantis, Gabbard, Ramaswamy and more: Trump confirms 6 names on his VP shortlist

In a Fox News town hall on Tuesday night, Trump said his list includes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott.

The front-runner for the GOP nomination, Trump did not produce the names on his own but was rather presented them by town hall host Laura Ingraham, who said audience members suggested them. Ingraham then asked Trump, “Are they all on your shortlist?” Trump answered, “They are.”

It’s possible other names could also be on Trump’s list. There has been speculation, too, surrounding New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, among others.

Trump, 77, said the most important quality he’s looking for in a running mate is someone who could be a great president in the event that something happens to him.

IRS to crack down on corporate jet use for personal purposes. How much do you want to bet that Trump violated IRS rules on using the plane for personal purposes when he was claiming corporate deductions.

The crackdown comes even as the GOP is trying to again reduce the infusion of funds into IRS compliance efforts. You want to know why? Because it’s chipping away at the hundreds of billions in the tax gap between what is owed and what’s paid.

Trump, 77, said the most important quality he’s looking for in a running mate is someone who could be a great president in the event that something happens to him.

that is kind of the baseline in what a nominee should look for in a running mate.

as for his actual list… DeSantis and Donalds would be difficult because the Florida electors would not be able to vote for either of them (or more funnily, for Trump) under the 12th Amendment:

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves

granted, the way around that is if the GOP has the majority in the Senate, the VP election would be thrown to them and a majority vote would be enough to get it done. but if the Dems hold the majority and vote Harris back into the VP office, then we are dealing with an Adams/Jefferson situation.

this got me reminiscing about the choir outbreak that I thought was in Tennessee but that actually happened multiple times, including March 2020 in Washington state. It seems so bizarre now that just four years ago, the newspaper was reporting that the way the illness spread “suggested what scientists have suspected—that the disease can spread through aerosol droplets.” (that’s not actually the quote, but it’s close). It’s like that time at the start of the AIDS crisis where people were still worried about sitting on a public toilet seat.

The BBC had to investigate a rape-church before the FBI got interested.

FBI launches probe into church investigated by BBC (BBC)

Speaking of religiously tinged sexual abuse, I came on an article in El País but went and found one in English so I could share with you.

Former nuns call on pope to launch inquiry into priest they say sexually abused them

Mirjiam Kovac and Gloria Branciani want independent inquiry into Marko Rupnik, who was expelled from Jesuit order in 2023

Two former nuns have called on Pope Francis to initiate an independent investigation into a once-prominent Jesuit artist-priest who they allege sexually abused them, including by forcing them to have threesomes and making them watch pornography so they would “grow spiritually”.

Speaking publicly for the first time, Mirjiam Kovac and Gloria Branciani said the wall of silence surrounding Marko Rupnik, who has been accused by several women of sexual, psychological and spiritual abuses dating back three decades, had finally “crumbled”.

The women are former members of the Ignatius of Loyola community, an order co-founded by Rupnik, whose mosaics adorn the walls of some Vatican chapels and other churches.

“We were all young girls, full of ideals,” Kovac said during a press conference in Rome. “But these very ideals, together with our training in obedience, were exploited for abuses of various kinds: of conscience, of power, spiritual, psychic, physical and often sexual.”

Both women reported Rupnik to senior Catholic church officials in the early 1990s, but claim they were repeatedly rebuffed and dismissed.

Rupnik was excommunicated in 2020 for absolving a woman with whom he had sex; the absolution of a “sexual accomplice” is among the most serious crimes under canon law. But he was reinstated two weeks later after he repented.

The bolding was added by me. Way to get out from underneath real sanctions. One reason why you can’t trust church leaders AT ALL. And there’s a lot more to be found in the article, located here:

The MAGA’s are desperate to pin something on Joe or his family. Right now they will make up anything to draw people’s attention away from DT.

Oh definitely — still recall sometime last year, where a MAGAt (FOAF — no one I know) said on FB that I would be forced to admit my errors when Biden’s role as part of the Biden crime family is proven to the American public. Never saw him apologize for any of his errors — but MAGAts are firm supporters of whatever their criminal leader asserts.

Got to get to stuff. Back in the day because I was fortunate enough to be in he middle of a rock and roll talent explosion, I fell in love with this song.
Cream.
Found out later who the original belonged to.
There were record stores. You could listen.
And to this day I asked musicians, well around here anyway, if they ever heard it.
Nope.
Stunning. Simply stunning.
I worked on that without the advantage of anything but my ear. Pulled it off a few time with the right folk, but……
Allow me.

I’ve come to the sad conclusion that each and every person here is a better cook than me.

I can manage bacon and eggs and French toast. Roasted chicken, broiled beef or lamb, Kraft macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes. It was a grand triumph when I was able to follow mom’s recipes for pot roast and latkes, but I made SUCH a mess I don’t do that anymore.

Other than that… I’m the queen of reheating (when I order delivery, I get 3 or 4 days worth of stuff). Citarella and Zabar’s are my best friends.

For the most part. I cut the boneless chicken breasts in half long wise, so there is actually 3 breasts in there for 6 pieces. Lay them in the baking dish. I put a bit of garlic powder, onion powder and Italian seasoning on them. Then put the condensed mushroom soup over each one. I barely put any water into the condensed soup so it stays pretty thick. Then I shake some parmesan cheese over all of that. Cover dish with foil. 375 for about 25 - 35 minutes. Once chicken temp up to 165 degrees or so it is done.

Pretty straight forward and simple.

No, I’m probably worse at it than anyone here. I go through a whole list of either minimal preparation or throw it in the oven/microwave foods. Or I just get out a bowl and eat cereal. I can do this since I live alone. I let my brother cook fancy meals for me.

Sitting here at the moment knowing that it’s 3:30 so I have to drag into the kitchen soon and fake SOMETHING for dinner. Every. Single. Night. Deciding who to cook is even more stressful than getting out the pans.

I love it when the good cooks around here post a recipe that’s simple enough even I can’t screw it up too bad.

Fucking AZ extremists. Prosecutor in AZ is refusing to extradite a criminal who committed murder in NYC, claiming that Manhattan DA Bragg is weak on crime.

Fuck that fucking AZ lunatic. NYC has a lower crime rate than most of the nation. Crime rate in NYC is lower than in AZ.

Murder rate in NYC is 1/3 that of Phoenix (which is part of Maricopa County). Per capita rate NYC 3.33 per 100k. It’s 9.55 in Phoenix. (Wiki).

Did I miss something in the article? I see where the article mentions that Bragg is black, but I missed the part here they mentioned the AZ DA’s race. Not that race should have nothing to do with the story.

I’ve done similar to that except I’ve use Thai curry simmer sauce. And perhaps some diced potatoes around the chicken to get cooked in the sauce as well.
