Sarah Palin has been strangely silent through all this.

Is she eyeing a comeback once the dust settles?

She is one Republican who has hardly had any association with 45 and his shenanigans.

While she is a magnificent avatar of the stupidity that drives the GOP these days, I think there is still too much misogyny in the Republican rank and file to really support a woman at the top of the ticket.

But her other problem is that I’m not entirely sure even people in Republicans take her seriously any more.

Fraud trial juror reports getting bag of $120,000 and promise of more if she’ll acquit
Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A juror was dismissed Monday after reporting that a woman dropped a bag of $120,000 in cash at her home and offered her more money if she would vote to acquit seven people charged with stealing more than $40 million from a program meant to feed children during the pandemic.

Elon Musk’s X Announces New Rules Allowing Porn

Adult content has long deluged Twitter, but in a new update announced Monday, the social media platform now known as X will allow more NSFW material. As spotted by TechCrunch, Elon Musk’s X updated its guidelines to allow “consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior.” “Sexual expression, whether visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression,” X says in its update. “We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires, and experiences, including those related to sexuality.” There are still restrictions, though. Content must be “properly labeled” and not “prominently displayed,” meaning it can’t be shown in profile pictures or banners. The guidelines also prohibit content that promotes “exploitation, nonconsent, objectification, sexualization or harm to minors, and obscene behaviors.” But of course, consistent content moderation is easier said than done; just earlier this year, X struggled to stop the spread of explicit AI-generated images of Taylor Swift. The site ultimately blocked all searches of Swift’s name, a solution that may not be as easy for regular users reporting nonconsensual material.

Palin couldn’t even win the house seat—she lost twice (special and general in 2022) even with a trump endorsement.

When she was running her mouth after the Georgia indictments last year, she was more of a laughing stock than anything else.

…as the former president was booked at the Fulton County Jail on election interference charges, Palin slammed “those who are conducting this travesty and creating this two-tier system of justice.” “I want to ask them: What the heck?” the former Alaska governor said. “Do you want us to be in civil war?

It’s unlikely that the perpetually overrated pol last seen losing two congressional races in Alaska to a Democrat last year is going to lead the kind of violent insurrection she is not-so-subtly threatening. But it’s a sign that the many, many, many attention-starved MAGA straphangers in or at the periphery of national politics are going to have a new mantra going forward.

Alex Jones Insists Those Were Real Tears During His Meltdown Over Infowars Shutdown

Conspiracy theorist and InfoWars host Alex Jones on Monday defended his sobbing Saturday rant in which he claimed he was being “targeted for abuse” with the imminent shutdown of his media company.

During the InfoWars live taping on Monday, Jones insisted his Saturday meltdown was not a “publicity stunt” but a genuine cry of anger and frustration.

“The art was taken off the walls, employees took their stuff home, there were tears,” Jones said. He was considerably more subdued than in Saturday’s emergency session, in which he howled about supposed “Deep State” actors shutting down his operation and begged listeners to buy his supplements to support him.

Jones’ Monday comments came in reaction to an emergency motion filed Sunday by the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre, who asked a Texas bankruptcy court judge to liquidate Infowars’ parent company, Free Speech Systems, instead of allowing Jones to reorganize it. The families are seeking $1.5 billion in damages from Jones over his false claims that the 2012 elementary school shooting was a hoax.

In dour tones on Monday, Jones rambled about his money woes and claimed he was running out of options to save his platform.

“I’m out of bullets,” he said—a peculiar choice of words, given his company is being shuttered by the families of gun violence victims. “I’m out of money, and my dad’s out of money, and he would help me,” Jones lamented. “I’m out of options, and that’s where we are.”

However, Jones has been dubbed a serial exaggerator and “performance artist” by his own lawyers in the past. Randall Wilhite, who represented Jones when his ex-wife Kelly Jones sued to get custody of their children, said at a pretrial hearing that the media personality was just “playing a character” on his show.

According to recent bankruptcy filing statements, Jones holds about $9 million in personal assets, the Associated Press reported.

Jones was ordered to pay $1.5 billion to the families of Sandy Hook victims who sued him, claiming that they were subject to unnecessary, traumatizing, and persistent harassment by Jones’ followers who readily took up the junk hoax theory.

Tennessee Republican cut funding for a programme which provides transportation for people with epilepsy.

As always, the cruelty is the point.

Tennesseans with epilepsy relied on state funding for transportation. Then it got cut. (The Tennessean, June 3, 2023)

Until about 10 years ago, the Tennessee Department of Health funded a statewide grant to the Epilepsy Foundation of East Tennessee that supported a range of services to support people with epilepsy. But about 10 years ago, lawmakers made the money non-recurring, and it’s been that way ever since.

“We were told it was an oversight or an accident, and that we would be able to get it back the following year,” Epilepsy Foundation Executive Director Pam Hughes, told The Tennessean, recounting conversations with the Department of Health.

Nonrecurring funds have been added at various times over the last decade, including in 2017 and 2018. But despite efforts by Hughes, lawmakers have yet to restore any recurring funding.

In 2022 and 2023, after Hughes worked with Sen. Bo Watson, R-Hixson, and Rep. Michele Carringer, R-Knoxville, the legislature approved a $900,000 one-time grant to the Epilepsy Foundation of East Tennessee to be used equally across the three Grand Divisions of the state.

With that funding, the group was able to open offices in Memphis and Nashville, in addition to supporting work at Knoxville and Chattanooga branches. Funds supported public education initiatives — 1 in 26 people will have a seizure in their lifetime — as well as services for thousands of clients statewide, including neurology appointments, diagnostic testing, transportation, seizure medications, support groups, a summer camp for kids with epilepsy, and seizure alert technology.

“We have people who’ve been able to get out of their homes and participate in life,” Hughes said. “We have people that have been able to get a job — and maintain it — because they had transportation to get to and from work.”

The foundation has served 9,983 people with epilepsy in Middle and East Tennessee since July 1, 2022.

I recently stumbled over some old meteorological records for my area here in Scotland. The last thirty years (1991-2020) have seen ten percent more rainfall on average than the previous thirty years (1961-1990). This increase may be attributable to climate change.

Major fires have reignited in the Ramim Ridge, north of Kiryat Shmona, prompting authorities to dispatch numerous firefighting teams. With homes in Kiryat Shmona and the neighboring community of Margaliot at risk, residents have been instructed to evacuate. Six people sustained minor injuries while battling the flames in Kiryat Shmona.

By 8 p.m., fire officials reported that the blaze was spreading toward a northern neighborhood of the city. Fire crews are contending with high flames to prevent the fire from reaching homes, but several yards, pergolas and even a house roof have already caught fire. Residents are pleading for help as the flames approach their homes.

Some 15 active fire sites were reported in the Galilee-Golan region alone, most resulting from rocket fire on an exceptionally hot day, with temperatures exceeding 43℃ (109℉) in Kiryat Shmona and the Sea of Galilee area.

The Epoch Times was a giant money laundering operation.

SDNY:
Chief Financial Officer Of Multinational Media Company Charged With Participating In Scheme To Launder At Least $67 Million In Fraud Proceeds

From at least in or about 2020, through in or about May 2024, GUAN, while working as the Chief Financial Officer of a multinational media company headquartered in New York, New York (the “Media Company”), conspired with others to participate in a sprawling, transnational scheme to launder at least approximately $67 million of illegally obtained funds to bank accounts in the names of the Media Company and related entities (together, with the Media Company, the “Media Entities”). In furtherance of the money laundering conspiracy, GUAN managed, among other teams, the Media Company’s “Make Money Online” team (the “MMO Team”), which was located in a particular foreign office of the Media Company. Under GUAN’s management, members of the MMO Team and others used cryptocurrency to knowingly purchase tens of millions of dollars in crime proceeds, including proceeds of fraudulently obtained unemployment insurance benefits, that had been loaded onto tens of thousands of prepaid debit cards. The crime proceeds were generally purchased by the scheme participants, including members of the MMO Team and others working with them, using a particular cryptocurrency platform, at discounted rates of approximately 70 to 80 cents per dollar, and in exchange for cryptocurrency.

Once the crime proceeds were purchased, the MMO Team and other participants in the scheme used stolen personal identification information to open accounts, including prepaid debit card accounts, cryptocurrency accounts, and bank accounts, that were used to transfer the crime proceeds into bank accounts associated with the Media Entities. After the crime proceeds reached those bank accounts, they were often further laundered through other bank accounts held by the Media Entities, GUAN’s personal bank accounts, and through GUAN’s personal cryptocurrency accounts.

I almost always agree with you, but on this one I am confused. Doesn’t the law state that a legal asylum claim has be presented at the border to an agent at a border crossing? If so, then it seems crossing into the US and THEN claiming asylum is already not a valid process. In that case, isn’t this just restating the existing law?

There are a lot of people, including Democrats, who are unhappy about immigration at the borders and are susceptible to the GOP propaganda on how it makes us unsafe.

I wish Biden, Obama, and other prominent Democrats would spend some time talking to current and former congress members Beto O’Rourke, Joaquin Castro, and Veronica Escobar, as well as Obama’s HUD Secretary, Julian Castro, about immigration. Ms. Escobar was an Immigration judge, before being in Congress. The positions Biden is taking are reactions to fear, not reality. A rapid, legal, stable, widely supported means of immigration needs to be in place to deal with the hordes who will arrive for decades, as income inequality and climate change accelerate.

No. An asylum claim can be made anywhere in the country.

Or America (Edit: also) really needs to support governments in Central America being able to create an environment where they can provide for their citizens, instead of being close to being failed states.

Mexico is still a lot poorer than America, but has improved to an extent that they are proportionally much less likely to illegally immigrate to the US compared to some central American countries (El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras) which are several times more likely to emigrate, despite a harder trip.

By all accounts, Hunter Biden had a bad period in his life and did some stupid shit, and yeah, if he broke laws I suppose he should be held accountable. If I don’t sound super-enthusiastic about that, it’s because the whole thing really does seem ridiculous to me, and if we’re going to discuss politically motivated investigations, this looks a lot like one.

Hunter’s case sits a very crowded intersection. It’s absolutely politically motivated and he was also 100% a reckless degenerate addict who almost certainly broke the law. A law that is almost never prosecuted and really only came into being as a way for the anti-drug and gun control special interest groups to do an Epic Handshake meme.

He’s absolutely being railroaded, but he’s also a super reckless privileged fuckup.

It’s complicated.

Many political-fundraising experts, including Craig Holman, Public Citizen’s chief ethics lobbyist, believe Adelson will be Trump’s top patron in 2024, as she was in 2020. What will she expect in return? Beyond unconditional support for the Israel-Hamas war, one can assume she’ll press for the unfinished items of Trump’s Israel agenda from last term. Top of that list: Israel annexing the West Bank and the U.S. recognizing its sovereignty there.

Fortune: COVID can cause new health problems to appear years after infection, according to a study of more than 130,000 patients

With more than 130,000 patients, the study is by far the largest so far to track the progress of the virus over a full three-year period. It expands on work by Al-Aly and others at the two-year mark that found patients had elevated risk for long-COVID-related conditions that included diabetes, lung problems, fatigue, blood clots, and gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal disorders.

There has also been an increase in stroke, cardiac issues, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and dementia related to Covid. Pretty much any organ, any part of the vascular system, or any part of the neurological system can be adversely impacted by Covid (and inflammation).

The party of “Law & Order”????

Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) has formally sent budget recommendations to defund multiple prosecutors and agencies investigating Donald Trump.

In a letter to Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) of the Committee on Appropriations, Jodan outlined budget cuts to prevent what his committee called the “weaponization” of government under President Joe Biden. Jordan said his proposals should be included in the fiscal year 2025 appropriations bills.

Jordan recommended language that would limit funds to special counsel Jack Smith and withhold federal funding from certain local prosecutors, such as New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

“We recommend that the Appropriations Committee, with appropriate consultation from leadership, include language to eliminate federal funding for state prosecutors or state attorneys general involved in lawfare and to zero out federal funding for federal prosecutors engaged in such abuse,” Jordan wrote.

The Judiciary chair said language from the letter should be included in future spending bills to stop “egregious abuses, misallocation of federal law-enforcement resources, and misconduct within the leadership ranks of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).”

“We recommend that the Appropriations Committee include language to eliminate any funding for the FBI that is not essential for the agency to execute its mission, including rescinding prior appropriations and prohibiting new taxpayer funding for any new FBI headquarters facility,” the letter explained.

Jordan advocated for the cessation of funding for what he called the Biden Administration’s “open-border immigration policies.” According to Jordan, these policies have allowed millions of illegal entries into the United States, which he claimed have compromised national security and public safety.

Once again I have to wonder if Putin is blackmailing Gym Shorts?

By all accounts, Hunter Biden had a bad period in his life and did some stupid shit, and yeah, if he broke laws I suppose he should be held accountable. If I don’t sound super-enthusiastic about that, it’s because the whole thing really does seem ridiculous to me, and if we’re going to discuss politically motivated investigations, this looks a lot like one.

A serious clue is the dearth of similar prosecutions, despite countless thousands of others who did the same or worse.

Isn’t the GOP strategy essentially to never assign to criminality that which can be explained by stupidity and incompetence?

It’s raining, again. We are under a flood warning, again.

A town south of us, Caddo Mills, has a dam set up to keep a creek from overflowing a housing edition. We have gotten so much rain over the past couple of months that ground around the dam is becoming unstable and they are warning the people to be ready to evacuate.

Dude, you can’t catch a break. I’m looking at 2” in Rockwall and 3” in Greenville.

Fortune: COVID can cause new health problems to appear years after infection, according to a study of more than 130,000 patients

There has also been an increase in stroke, cardiac issues, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and dementia related to Covid. Pretty much any organ, any part of the vascular system, or any part of the neurological system can be adversely impacted by Covid (and inflammation).

IT’S BECAUSE OF THE VACCINE OBVIOUSLY!!!

Take it easy. I live in Texas.

I just got back from Texas.

I was terrified the whole time I was there (especially from whomever it was firing an automatic weapon while I was at my brother-in-law’s house).

I got pulled over by a cop in Alvin a couple days after I arrived saying my car was not properly registered since I was “living” in Texas. (Didn’t like the Nebraska plate I guess.)

I did take more from your state lotto than I paid in so I guess that counts as a win. /s

Remember that hole in the overpass here in Rockwall I put up here around a month ago? Well now I35 southbound across the Red River at the Texas-oklahoma border also has a hole in it. If you pull up Google maps and turn on traffic in the area, you can see the backup even at this time.

We’re going up to Norman this weekend to get the key to the apartment my son is staying in. They say they hope to have the hole fixed by Thursday.

Colorado man’s necklace helps him dodge a bullet (CNN, today)

A shooting in Commerce City, Colo. A man’s necklace stopped the bullet, “only” causing a puncture wound. The necklace likely saved his life.

(Includes a photograph of the necklace with the bullet embedded in it)

The victim has not been identified but according to the police department, his 10-milimeter-wide chain was able to blunt the force of a .22 caliber bullet and prevent it from causing further damage.

The bullet was fired during an argument and would have ended up in the victim’s neck had it not instead become lodged in the chain he was wearing, police said.

The person suspected of firing the bullet has been arrested and faces attempted homicide charges, the post said.

Interesting.

A quick search shows a lot of outrage from Russophile Websites over this.

Former US intelligence officer says was not let leave US to attend forum in St. Petersburg (TASS)

NEW YORK, June 3. /TASS/. Former US Marine Corps Intelligence Officer and UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter has told TASS that he was not let board a flight from New York to Istanbul, a stopover on his way to Russia to take part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“I was taken off flight from New York to Istanbul. They took my passport and taken my bags off the flight,” he said.

He also said that no explanations were given to him. The police, in his words, said only that it was done at the order from the Department of State.

Conservatives should be proud of Hunter Biden. He was getting nice ‘n’ toasted on good drugs and booze, banging hot women with his giant hog, cheated on his taxes, and kept illegal firearms, all important conservative white male values. They really should be doing this…
