Drudge has posted the full text of Obama’s inaugural speech.

Reuters has already focused on the part that’s important to them: Obama promises new start with Muslims.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama promised a new start with the Muslim world in his inauguration address on Tuesday.

“To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect,” said Obama, who became the first black president of the United States.

Reuters is indulging in selective quoting here, because in reality, Obama’s remarks directed at the Muslim world were far more pointed (surprisingly so):

I really liked this part of his speech.

Obama is a pragmatist and an adult -- the latter meaning that he actually feels like he is the man and America is his country.

The Lowrey ending was inappropriate but it was the close of a chapter. The Civil Rights movement is over. Obama's speech was all about shaking up the paradigms. Lowrey's was a silly cheap shot the fact of the inauguration being the refutation that whites still need to repair themselves. BS. White people elected Obama.

Obama has shown himself to want to be cast as an American president rather than a black president. Again, because he wants to get on a bill and on Mt. Rushmore.

Not saying he will be great or good, just that so far he has shown good character, and I agree with Charles, the full quote was directly at the gripe mongering that stalled all past democrats ME efforts, Carter and Clinton first and second.

This speech follows the normal pattern for the Obama administration: give people a blank slate so they may project whatever they believe onto it.

I know Inauguration speeches aren't like the State of the Union, so this is expected. I'm just saying that in this speech we can read our own wants into it.

I am still flinching, waiting for his first real decision that will show us where he will really stand on the issues of Terrorism, Israel v. Palestine, Energy Policy, Iraq and Iran.

My wife bought me a book of Winston Churchill's speeches, and a couple of DVD's of him speaking. Phew! He wrote all his own speeches, and sure knew how to deliver 'em.

I think someone said of him. "He mobilized the English language and sent it off to war."

The picture demonstrates that she needs to learn to stand up straight. It also demonstrates that she could possibly have chosen a more unflattering style, but it would have taken work.

Further, the dress is not appropriate to an afternoon venue.

Find the woman a dresser, and get her some deportment lessons!

Nice thought, but hoping is just that. While I certainly would love to see "wisdom beyond his years," from him my expectations are a whole lot lower.

Yeah. I kind of reminded me of Reagans Inauguration, when the Embassy hostages were released. It makes me wonder what was said in the back channels that caused Israel to be before Barrack was in for his first executive decision.

I wouldn't be too sure of that dissection... the dems are already furious at Pelosi for writing the entire bailout bill (the new one) without input from them and now, due to the new house rules intended to stop Republicans from amending bills or referring them back to committee, possibly without Democrat modification.

I've decided that I like Obama a lot better than I like his supporters. There is a difference, a big one. His speech was pretty dang centrist and reasonable - unfortunately, the tone on Facebook (among my so-called "friends" anyway) was largely Bush-bashing (hey people: he's DONE now, you can stop already!) and "for the first time in my life, I'm not ashamed of America" (yes, exact words).

Unbelievable. I'm guessing a lot of these people will turn on Obama pretty quickly. Spoiled children do that when they don't get exactly what they want.

The speech made no specific policy announcements except maybe calling for an energy distribution grid. It will be read like tea leaves, he mentioned Islam before Judaism, or he did not mention nuclear power etc. He may be wondering if he can just keep kicking the can down the road. This might be a good time for him to take a two week vacation.

It won't matter. There'll be some half-phrases, a bit of this and that, depending on the editorial bent of the publishers. I'm just waiting until he has to actually accomplish something. I really do hope things improve. I'm not so partisan to think that only the Republicans can do wonders. And I hope the political process spits out legislation that we can actually live with. And I think the loyal opposition should give him time to settle in before criticising him. Remember, the dems slammed Bush, even before he took office, and never let up. I don't want the Republicans to follow the dems' class-less behaviors.

I've decided that I like Obama a lot better than I like his supporters. There is a difference, a big one. His speech was pretty dang centrist and reasonable - unfortunately, the tone on Facebook (among my so-called "friends" anyway) was largely Bush-bashing (hey people: he's DONE now, you can stop already!) and "for the first time in my life, I'm not ashamed of America" (yes, exact words).

Unbelievable. I'm guessing a lot of these people will turn on Obama pretty quickly. Spoiled children do that when they don't get exactly what they want.

There is a huge problem looming for the Obama administration. Their brilliant tactic of giving nothing but glittering generalities, never being specific, and allowing the media and the electorate to project onto him their hopes and dreams, works great for a campaign. But presidents get nailed down, have to make decisions. Eventually his views will be exposed, and a large number of "voters" will realize that he doesn't believe what they believe at all, that his change is not their change.

I have no clue where he will come down, really. His voting record says "liberal." His rhetoric and cabinet choices say "moderate." Once he starts making real decisions the dream will falter and the bubble will pop.

Yes. Apostasy is illegal in every Muslim country in the world. In some countries the penalty is death, but in the more progressive states, the punishment is merely imprisonment, torture and fines.

In many part of the non-Muslim world, the local Muslim community enforces punishment for apostasy. A few years ago in Toronto, a young Iranian man was thrown from the 8th floor balcony of his apartment for the "crime" of converting to Christianity. Last year, the Iranian parliament passed a law which invoked the authority to punish any Muslim apostate anywhere in the world.

There is a huge problem looming for the Obama administration. Their brilliant tactic of giving nothing but glittering generalities, never being specific, and allowing the media and the electorate to project onto him their hopes and dreams, works great for a campaign. But presidents get nailed down, have to make decisions. Eventually his views will be exposed, and a large number of "voters" will realize that he doesn't believe what they believe at all, that his change is not their change.

I have no clue where he will come down, really. His voting record says "liberal." His rhetoric and cabinet choices say "moderate." Once he starts making real decisions the dream will falter and the bubble will pop.

The rhetoric of Hopenchange will be an SNL joke in 4 years.


Worst-case scenario: he'll get eaten alive by the disullisioned far-lefties
who have their dreams and hopes shattered by his inability to deliver on his electioneering promises. Best-case scenario: reality shows him Bush actually had the right ideas all along. Most likely he'll take a middle road (only road ever available to a president) and will muddle along taking potshots by media and his (former) allies.

Over the next nine months, Israel held its fire, and the world indeed condemned terrorism. But the attacks only increased. In the heart of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, suicide bombers blew up coffee shops, buses and hotels. Nightlife ground to a halt, tourism was decimated and hotels had to release most of their workers. One of my colleagues in the government, Rehavam Zeevi, was gunned down by terrorists. In the meantime, the U.S. suffered its own terror attacks on Sept. 11 and put intense pressure on us not to retaliate against the Palestinians, for fear of complicating its own war on al-Qaeda.

The situation came to a head in March 2002, when more than 130 Israelis were killed in a single month alone -- most infamously on March 27, Passover Eve, at the Park Hotel in Netanya. The next day, the cabinet convened -- again, in an extraordinary meeting during a religious holiday. The meeting started at 6 p.m. and lasted the night. This time, however, the government decided to launch Operation Defensive Shield -- the same plan the Israel Defense Forces had offered the previous year.

There will be no limit on the reasonable bounds of Israeli patience during the Obama administration. Again, I think that's obvious.

If he hadn't abandoned the Shah, Khomeini would have lived out his days glowering in Paris. There'd be no Hezbollah, there'd be no Hamas. There might not even be an Al Qaeda.

The situation in Gaza isn't Israel's fault...it's Jimmuh's fault.

And Carter wrote the speech Arafat gave at the UN, and otherwise helped Arafat seem respectable.
I put all the Israeli and Palestinian deaths on his head, because the local Palestinian leaders were pragmatic; bringing Arafat back radicalized the whole thing. And I'm sure Carter did it to get rid of Israel.
There are a whole bunch of demons sharpening their pitchforks for him.

Although I have always known that the United States wasn't a racist country and any creed or color would have the opportunity to excel here, I hate the feeling that we almost HAD to elect Obama to somehow prove that fact.

I am proud that we could elect a minority to the office of the President, but I am left with the frustration that the person in question is so unworthy of the honor. Just like I felt OJ was such an unworthy candidate to represent injustices minorities face in the judicial system.

Fortunately, I love my country MORE than I hate the opposition, so unlike the KoS kidz, liberals, and so called progressive elites, I will hope the opposition, Obama, at least succeeds in managing and defending my country. I will not root for the failure of my country to score political points. I wish the opposition had been as gracious.

All in all, a good speech -- very centrist. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Obama made many positive references to our history, but then, what will he do to address the Leftist, revisionist histories that permeate our high schools and colleges? Will he call Bill Ayers and Howard Zinn on their crap? Many Black historians think Lincoln was a self-interested Whitey who never really cared about slavery. Is he going to refute them? And what will he actually do when the Saudis extend their hand in "friendship", continuing the relationship as usual?

* I found the speech to be self-contradictory, and generally pretty poor. Towards the beginning he extols our "founding documents", but later he gives a veiled endorsement of socialism.

* Of course, there was the obligatory (for him) narcissist "moment" crap, which didn't seem to fly well, IMHO. Has everybody (besides lizards) finally noticed how hollow that crap is?

* The civil rights reference struck me as anachronistic. If that stuff wasn't old news, you wouldn't be standing there, pal. Gimme a break.

* But notice the recurring theme for his administration (as was previously presented in Philadelphia). To paraphrase: "I am one of those great Presidents who pulled the country through a great crisis - and, BTW, that'll take eight years." (The "crisis" being claimed is three-fold: financial, the wars, and global warming.) "Start thinking about which dollar bill you're going to put me on, and where my monument will go." His unbridled narcissism never disappoints.

So the Iraq War (which is all but won) and the war in Afghanistan (which probably doesn't even qualify as a "major" war) represent a "crisis", and the recent financial meltdown ranks with the Revolution, the Civil War, and WWII. [BTW, Al Qaida was out-of-controll when Bush took office, but a mere shadow of its former self when he left, pal - no thanks to guys like you!]

As to global warming, this is where he's "saving the whole world", not just the US. I guess he's betting on everybody continuing in their denial about how the Earth hasn't been warming for about a decade, and is starting to cool - despite ever-increasing CO2 levels.

* Oh, and there were a number of places where I had to ask, "WTF is he even talking about?" Which kind of implies that it's moonbat code so far removed from reality that I haven't even caught wind of it yet.

* On the whole - as Rush put it - "nobody knew when to clap". There were no "big moments" to get excited about.

I'm absolutely willing to give him a chance. I hope he does well, and if he does, I may vote for him next time around. But words are words, deeds are deeds. Maybe the teachers who feed our kids historical fictions will take heed, at least, from the speech.

I thought it was a great inaugural speech. It was true to his own view of reality and of America. It was strong in places that I had not dared to hope for strength. This President has potential, I will wait and see, and hope for his continued strength for America's sake. I'm surprised to hear so many media bashing his speech--and I am even more surprised to find myself defending it. Analogy: A stunning woman can look magnificent in a mediocre dress. President Obama has the gift of making an impact with speeches, whether inspired or mundane. You really don't get sound-bites from him.

Highlights that were very good to hear:

"We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waiver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.

Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations. "

Wonderful. As to the less wonderful--well, he was true to himself at any rate

I'm not worried about President George W. Bush in terms of perception. The things W got wrong were not trivial. But he great thing, the prime directive of any President, he aced. He protected this nation from terrorist assault. He did not fear to call evil by its name and take the battle to the enemy, he did not flinch from necessity, or cave in to bad press, bad polls and vicious calumny. He is a brave and patriotic man, and the Good Lord alone will vindicate or understand him.

I also thought the dress was inappropriate for an afternoon event. And she does indeed need to stand up straight - but I can't help but wonder if she has some back issue that prevents it?

It may have something to do with size of her posterior. She has quite adamantly stated that SHE is her own wardrobe advisor and truly believes that she does a good job at it. Dillusion at its finest.

Al Gore (big cheer)
Jimmy Carter (warm cheer)
Bill Clinton (cheers plus various remarks of respect for his sexual prowess (seriously!))
Hillary Clinton
Howard Dean (surprisingly big cheer)
Michelle
Melia and Sascha
Obama (every second he appeared on screen)

Those who were booed:
Joe Libermann (calls of "traitor" etc.)
Dick Cheney (boos plus laughter that he was in a wheelchair)
Clarence Thomas (not loud boos but a definite undertone of unhappy muttering)
George Bush (every second he appeared on the screen. Shameful!)

My response:
Loud cheers for all those who were being booed. (Seriously, I was the only person cheering Bush and Cheney among thousands of people. Did all the Republicans stay home? Made my Democrat husband nervous but he stayed by me.)

Bright spot: High school student in front of me saying that no president deserved to be booed out of office on inauguration day.

Biggest wince from the crowd: the word "Jesus" in the prayer

Great speech! Glad to see the mood around here has lifted. It begins to dawn that Obama might not be as awful as many had expected. Reminds me of the recent Obama South Park episode (minus the bit about stealing the big diamond of course) where the doom-laden republicans and ecstatic democrats eventually both calm down to a more reasonable assessment of the meaning of Obama's victory.
