San Francisco's gay penguin has a change of heart
After six years together, the relationship between a pair of gay male penguins at San Francisco zoo is apparently over, with Harry leaving Pepper for another penguin -- Linda.
The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that the relationship between Harry and Pepper, who lived side-by-side, protecting eggs abandoned by other penguins, came to a shocking end when Harry moved into a neighboring nest with recently-widowed Linda.
The development has sparked a variety of reactions in the blogosphere, where Linda has been called a "home wrecker" who "lives for her own happiness, no matter who gets hurt."

ArmyWife's Easy Mushroomless Chicken Marsala -
Saute 1/2 of a small onion (diced, about 1/4 cup) and 2 cloves of garlic (about 1 TBS, chopped) in about 3 TBS olive oil (I'm not a good measurer, just a few swigs from the bottle does it) in a medium sauce pan. Once the onions are clear, whisk in 3 tablespoons flour, and cook for about a minute. Deglaze the pan with about 1/2 cup of Marsala, and then add 1 1/2 cup of beef broth, and a few shakes of salt and pepper. Cook until sauce thickens over medium heat (stirring frequently). Pour over boneless chicken breasts that have been sauteed until cooked through and browned.

Harrison Edell, a curator of birds at the zoo, had a more pragmatic explanation, noting that Linda's recently-deceased partner was a leader of sorts among the small zoo penguin community, commanding not one but two nests.
"For penguins, real estate means a lot," Edell told the Los Angeles Times, so "as far as penguins go, she was a pretty attractive prospect."
It sort of makes sense, what with Linda being quite the wealthy widow. It is a story as old as time.

Fox News guest wants Taliban to kill captured American soldier
I couldn't believe my ears, but just minutes ago on "America's News HQ," guest pundit Ralph Peters suggested something to the effect that the Taliban should "save us the headache" and execute captured 23 year-old American soldier Bowe Bergdahl, because "it looks like" Bergdahl deserted his unit. While prefacing his comments by stressing that a military decision should not be made until all of the facts surrounding Bergdahl's capture are determined, Peters then ignored his own advice and encouraged the Taliban to kill this young man. Fox News' Julie Banderas was visibly shocked at the words coming out of Peters' mouth, but did not challenge any of his statements before awkwardly ending the segment.
Normally I'd suspect they were mischaracterizing his statement but with what goes on at Fox news these days I wouldn't be too surprised is it was true.

Killgore must have an outside pond.
Although I will say, the way he said that, "My 8 year old goldfish was finally eaten by a raccoon last week . . . ", it doesn't sound to me as if he was particularly disturbed at the loss of the fish and may have been wanting it to get eaten.

The guy's a heartless prick. See #81.
Like I said, I was assuming he said it. If the source is the Kos, then I'll wait for non-crazy confirmation.

You should have been more protective. Look what this guy did to save his pet:
heh...couple of years ago I used to surf for these stories...some where just unbelievable what people would do or pets for that matter...I love that stuff

here she is...

That's the one. I used to call her the Millennium Falcon. Blue metal flake paint with a white top. The tailgate said Falcon, since it was taken from a Falcon wagon to replace the damaged original. I had some pictures somewhere on the computer but can't find them to post right now.

May I suggest a cool Mojito this Sunday afternoon? I'm having one - with fresh squeezed lime juice and mint from my herb garden.
yum.

re: #97 Killgore Trout
Exactly. He's doing what he has to do to survive. The Fox news guy claiming he's a traitor and should be killed to save us the trouble of a rescue is just beyond all taste and reason.
He should not seek to survive if his survival would entail concessions that would weaken the war effort. I really do believe that.

re: #87 razorbacker
You almost had to shoehorn the radiator out of one of the big Lincolns in there and rig electric fans and pull off the stock engine-driven fan.
And a transmission oil cooler.
I added the tranny oil cooler, but never got around to putting in a bigger radiator. I just avoided driving her too hard when it was warm out.

Let's see, a decorated veteran who has visited the battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan many times, who is in contact with guys who are there right now, and who has been one of the strongest and loudest supporters of the men and women currently fighting....
Or some anonymous "poster" at KOS
Let's see the context and actual video. I am going to guess it is nothing like this KOS loser is saying.
Just my guess

Quite concur. I too hope he can be saved, but not at the cost of givig anything to the Taliban. I'd rather be burned alive myself than see those bastards win.

Pontiac hasn't made a car in a long, long time.
The GTO was/is a Holden from OZ.
