Also, coming up Saturday (Italy time) is an internet streamed exoplanet transit!
Worlds In The Sky: A Live Exoplanet Transit Event

It is unlikely we will ever be able to visit an exoplanet - they are just too far away. Perhaps if we bio-engineered a new species based on us but living 100x longer - then they might make it. Still, pretty interesting stuff.

This land is my land
It could be our land
If you get free from
Your radical Islam
So you must choose now
Or you will lose now
And this land won’t really be for you.

We came to this land
To gain our freedom
We raised our children
And worked to feed 'em
You don't respect us
So don't infect us
This land is really not for you.

We let your mom in
And now you're bombin'
Your daddy's from there
He lives on welfare
You hate our peoples
And our church steeples
This land is really not for you.

You want to rule us
Don't try to fool us
You're taught to hurt us
And to convert us
So rise above it
Or you can shove it
This land won't take that crap from you.

181 Fat Bastard Vegetarian  Thu, Feb 11, 2010 5:19:23pm

How I Met My Wife...

I was 18 years old.

I met my wife in a restaurant called Pizza Den. She was sitting in a booth with her sister (who I knew casually) saw her and thought she was adorable.

Sat down across from them at the booth they were at and said "Hi!" to D (now my sister-in-law) but never even looked at her. Staring directly at her sister (now my wife) I said, "Holy cow, D! Who's that!?"

D said "This is my sister L."

I said, "Great. Don't you have someone else you can go talk to right now?"

The rest is history.

That is precisely how it happened. My wife has denied the story for years. Recently, the SIL backed me up.

Happy Valentine's Day, y'all.

I think crazy Pam is talking to herself. Check out her latest tip on school socialistic indoctrination supposedly sent in from a reader....
Obama's Brownshirts in School: Thuggery and Intimidation as Teachers Browbeat Children into National Socialism

Yesterday my 12 year old came home upset from school. Her 'guidance counselor' came into the classroom and asked those who opposed Obama to raise their hands. My daughter and four or five others raised their hands.

The teacher than demanded that my daughter 'debate' her about universal health care. When my daughter gave some facts and said that she doesn't agree with it (she's a well read girl who loves politics) the teacher began to berate her and told her that her two sons (middle aged men) couldn't afford health care and implied my child was a bad person and wanted to deny her sons and children the right to health care. You know the usual routine.

Then when my child said that she thought it was socialistic and there were better options the teacher again berated her- didn't she like public schools- again the standard liberal lines. Then my daughter said she thought the public schools were poorly run and that unions were causing issues. The teacher end ed up with a "socialism is good" comment and implying that my child was a not very good person for her beliefs.

I've called the principal about this. It reminded me of the teacher prior to the election- the John McCain will keep your father in wars forever woman. What sort of adult is so lacking in judgment and is so needy for an ego boost that attempting to destroy a 12 year old in debate is attractive to her?
...
Well, my daughter went off with a smile to school today after I congratulated her on her valiant attempt to stop indoctrination in her school. What she was most upset about was the imbalance of power- the teacher could say whatever she wanted to her, but she had to be polite and watch what she said. (The teacher didn't like when she questioned if her sons had thought about getting rid of cable or using a less expensive cell phone to try to budget for their own health care instead of relying on others) Anyway my good, smart girl did tell me and I think t he principal is going to do something about it.

I would add to your list of what parents can do- get your kids some books to read- my child loved the 'Arguing with Idiots' book and I've ordered a couple of others for her as well. We talk about politics and I try to give my kids the tools they need so when they are attacked by an idiot teacher they can have some defenses to fight back. I think that is critically important. Maybe Pam could come up with a list of good books/references for teens and preteens to that end?

The typos and grammatical errors sure looks like it's Pam's writing.
