Video: Beck-Malkin Slap Fight!

Politics • Views: 4,399

Michelle Malkin and Glenn Beck have a right wing slap fight over Beck’s decision to have wacko Democrat apostate Eric Massa on his show, and it gets pretty nasty.

This is what happens when your entire ideology is based on crazy hatred. People like Glenn Beck aren’t making rational decisions — they’re seizing on whatever comes up to make the “other side” look bad, and in the process beclowning themselves.

(Hat tip: Killgore.)

And here’s a good post by Bob Lonsberry on Eric Massa’s cynical shell game.

Eric Massa is a snake.

But he is a brilliant snake.

And in one of the most audacious p.r. moves ever, he has conned Limbaugh, Drudge and Beck – and untold millions of Americans. From a little radio studio beside a swamp, with the help of a couple of deluded backwoods yokels, he has made himself a national star.

It is astounding.

And proof that in American politics, it’s not how big your lie is, it’s how loud you can yell.

And so it is that Eric Massa, who fled the Congress out of fear of what Ethics Committee investigators would find out about him, has wrapped himself in the robes of a patriot martyr.

A guy who – until yesterday – belonged to the House Progressive Caucus has, with one nicely disseminated rant, transformed himself into a conservative darling. Limbaugh and Beck have trumpeted him, and Beck has promised him an entire hour of national television tonight. Massa opposed Obamacare because it wasn’t liberal enough – because it didn’t entirely nationalize health care with a single-payer system – and Beck is about to crown him queen of the tea party.

It is a media move of astounding proportion. It takes spin to a whole new level.

And it shows Massa to be a genius.

And, if anybody’s paying attention, a liar.

But, nobody is paying attention, and his con is working.

Yeah I thought that was funny too. Beck is still fighting the Soviet Union and the Red Menace.

Well, it more or less is, if you think about the kind of folks with whom they're associating.

Yeah I thought that was funny too. Beck is still fighting the Soviet Union and the Red Menace.

"At this moment, for example, in 1984 (if it was 1984), Oceania was at war with Eurasia and in alliance with Eastasia. In no public or private utterance was it ever admitted that the three powers had at any time been grouped along different lines."

8 Killgore Trout  Tue, Mar 9, 2010 10:34:51am

Of course they're both right. Beck doesn't need to worry about credibility because his audience doesn't care. They believe every secret plot he tells them about. It's pretty silly for Malkin to be worried about it since she's also pushed every stupid and easily debunked conspiracy herself about Obama closing Republican owned businesses and the White House stealing people's computers.
Is Massa any worse than anything they've advocated in the past. Sure, he's crazy as his claims are probably easily debunked so is everything else from Malkin and Beck. I don't see much of a difference.

People will choose sides and I'm guessing that the internet/blogger end will side with Malkin while the majority of Beck's fan base will choose Beck. Both Beck and Limbaugh are attempting to use Massa to promote the overall Obama/Chicago conspiracy with Rahm Emanuel as the centerpiece.

Frankly this Massa story has no legs. Even though it's causing a bit of a flare up in the new media and on blogs the nature and history of Massa will result in seeing those that choose to promote his conspiracies will fall flat on their face. Even looking at the right-wing daily narrative known as the Drudge Report you will find this lead story on Massa: "'Self-contradicting, borderline paranoid ramblings'..." Oddly enough that could almost be a similar description of Glenn Beck.

Given the ongoing hoopla regarding Beck's comments involving Geert Wilders and "Far right is fascism" on his show I think that in the popularity contest, Glenn Beck has the most to lose other than in his devout fan base. Otherwise, they're grasping at straws with Massa who's conspiracies have fast become an urban legend.

Lunchtime drive-by here. I'm declaring this on-topic by virtue of "crazy hatred".
This is an intro clip of a BBC look at Fred Phelp's church. If you watch, be set for ugly language. (If the children's language violates LGF standards, please call for a delete.) My point is that these people have been allowed to raise their many children, so discussion of homeschooling and child abuse is rendered sort of senseless.

25 zora  Tue, Mar 9, 2010 10:53:02am

On March 5, Massa announced that he would resign his seat on March 8, 2010, citing as reasons a recurrence of cancer, a pending investigation before the House Ethics Committee, and pressure from the Democratic leadership to step down after opposing the health care reform bill.

just from his wiki page you can tell he is grasping at straws.

Excellent post by Lonsberry.

First, 'he doth protesteth too much'. Secondly, he's a lightweight representative. No one would make him or his vote pivotal.

Maybe Emmanuel did beat him up. So what? Karl Rove was just as hard a taskmaster- and the Bush era earmarks prove there was lots bought and sold.. Politics is a dirty game and clearly Massa didn't have what it takes to play the game.

I'm quite content with that part, yes.

But seriously. So far the charges seem to start and end with "Rahm Emanuel is a stone-cold schmuck." That's his JOB DESCRIPTION. Why does Massa get to be on Glenn Beck for reporting this information.

Well I didn't suggest Beck was being rational. :D Maybe Beck is just fixated on the nakedness part of the story. o.O

Massa is trying to make the story NOT that he (Massa) sexually harrassed someone at a wedding reception, rather that Rahm is taking an "innocent" exchange Massa had at that reception with someone INTO a sex scandal thereby forcing Massa (and hos no vote on Health Care) out of office

Rahm has a simple two-word response for Massa, which I'm sure he'll share with him in private, though he probably wouldn't mind risking the disappointing criticism he'd receive from Fox Correspondent Palin if he did say it publicly.

Kirkpatrick ran on a platform of tax cuts for 86 million middle class families, making health care affordable and accessible to all, and encouraged renewable energy projects to end America's dependence on foreign energy and create jobs for rural Arizona. She supports increasing teacher salaries, expanding SCHIP, and adding a division to the army. Kirkpatrick is known as an advocate for early education, Native Americans, and law enforcement.
She supported the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, but has been willing to vote against the White House and the Democratic leadership on many key issues. She opposed the American Clean Energy and Security Act which, among other things, established a cap and trade system.[4]
Kirkpatrick voted in favor of the Affordable Health Care for America Act on November 7th, 2009. [5]

He's not saying that Hugo isn't an asshole. He is making an accurate statement about Chavez being democratically elected. I'm guessing Penn's point is that we have a habit in this country of labelling people we don't like as 'dictator' or 'evil-doer' or 'terrorist' regardless of whether the people in their country actually vote for them in an open election. We did the same thing in another country a few years ago when the party we "supported" lost in their election (which, to that point, we had been touting as progress). I suppose if we just appointed friendly puppets to lead all these countries, we could stop calling them bad names.

Ya know, though, it's just one of those stupid things folk in his position say, but, because he's well-known, it gets spread around, discussed, and taken seriously.

I loved Brando in the Godfather & Apocalypse Now - his political posturing is irrelevant, and his talent is such that I suppress even the thought of some of the goofy stuff he pulled. Same goes for Mr. Glover, albeit in different films, obviously.

Penn - started as a joke, has proved himself a fairly solid actor, and just needs to be encouraged not to make a spectacle of himself, and I could hold him in the same regard.

The hugo talk starts around 5 mins and 3 mins later he says reporters should go to jail for lying about Mr. Chavez. If he just wanted to blast the MSM for their coverage that would have been fine but calling for reporters to be jailed makes it sound like he's been hanging out with Chavez for just a little too long.

Don't Embrace Eric Massa

[Link: www.weeklystandard.com...]

recap of the main parts here.

I've been watching Fox News' coverage of Massa yesterday and today, and it seems sometime late yesterday everyone got word to start backing away from the whistle-blower meme a bit and go back to a bit of skepticism (Kristol on the Special Report panel discussed him as a kook). Today's coverage seems to be shifting back toward the Right's initial impulse which was try to paint Massa as another Foley (with questions like, "When did Speaker Pelosi first hear the allegations?", "was there a cover-up?", etc).

That shift in tone makes me wonder how Beck will handle his interview today. My guess would be, start by digging for dissension and dirt, but then focus on painting him as a pervert/predator?

I occasionally think I would like this or that tweaked, then I think about going to the doctor and basically saying, hey, I would love to give you scads of my hard-earned money to cut into my face.

For me - it just ain't gonna happen.

Would I be wrong in making an observation that Shep doesn't seem to think a whole lot of Beck?

I don't think Shep Smith fancies very many people at Fox. He only has one reason he's there, the number $6 million.

Heh, no. He's made fun of Beck repeatedly.

Hee okay. I just wasn't sure if it was my bias reading into what I just watched.

Eric Massa, who left the GOP in 2003 to join the Dems, is a crooked lying whore who is indeed opposed to the Obama health care bill.
Another massive Dem fail.

Spare, he was opposed because it wasn't lefty enough!

Massa opposed Obamacare because it wasn’t liberal enough – because it didn’t entirely nationalize health care with a single-payer system

Hardly a Dem fail, except for himself.

Pretty much.

I think that's why I like the guy. You can watch him sometimes and know he has near open contempt for some of the people he works with, but he's making a damned good living and gets to make fun of his co-workers and not get fired. I wouldn't leave that job either. Heh.

It's what Massa claimed, but his recent rhetoric makes me wonder. Massa also voted against the House bill because he wanted Single Payer and he said the Public Option in that bill wasn't strong enough.

From his recent radio show though, Massa was using straight-up Luntz talking points as to why the bill needed to go down.

Massa: You can not effectively govern this country without the consent of governed. The entire nation has said let’s rewrite the health care bill. Let’s find what we can agree upon. No. No. No. We are going to ram this down the throats of the American people.

...

The American people have lost faith in this piece of legislation and if we pass this bill using reconciliation it will tear this country to pieces. It will rip this country asunder.

...

But instead of actually trying finding the solutions and writing a piece of legislation that will get you a 90 percent solution with 70 percent agreement among the American people. They are going to ram this bill down the throats of this country and it is going to rip this nation to pieces politically and it will be a generation for this nation to recover.

Does that sound like he's still advocating for progressive purity? To me it sounds like he wants what the GOP is currently claiming they want (passing those limited things the parties agree on, maybe tort reform, some tax cuts, etc). Also a careful politician doesn't repeatedly use opposition talking points by accident.

re: #1 Obdicut

As I was corresponding to EmmieG yesterday, before I was interrupted with a phone call, I've found the teabaggers and fundies to be a natural fit.

Just the other day I was looking up a (fundie) supplier I've (reluctantly) purchased from in times prior, and see the home page of their web site is now full-on Beck/TeaParty madness. It's like they couldn't quite articulate their overt fundieness before (being only half-literate), but they've found a way to package and position their unwavering patriotism, righteousness, racism, and homophobia by recycling teabagger talking points. Add a few derogatory quips about atheists, public schools, gun control, and - bingo! - they are now part of the teabagger/Beck clan.

(I see the aforementioned company's linkies doing the same.)

It appears that eric is the "massa" and beck, rush, et all are the "slaves."

Woah, I wish I had seen this thread earlier. Bob Lonsberry is Salt Lake's local conservative talk guy and I listen to him with much frequency. He's a good, funny guy. I'm glad to see his post here!
