The Door Opens - Update: The Door Shuts

Open • Views: 2,323

For the sheer ever-lovin’ heck of it, registration is now open for a limited time. Be sure to read the rules on the registration page. The short version:

  • Don’t register with a proxy.
  • Don’t register with a throwaway email address.
  • Don’t register more than one account at a time from the same Internet connection. BIG no-no.
  • Don’t be a jerk.
  • Don’t be a troll.
  • Stinky Beaumont doesn’t like sock puppets.
  • Do play nice.

UPDATE at 4/12/10 12:12:03 pm:

With 62 hatchlings (and several probable sock puppets), registration closes for the day.

My brother isn’t just like me, he’s 2/3 years older (two now will be 3 again in September) his ideas tend to be a bit more thought out, his sarcasm a bit more biting.

Nah, I’m being a jerk. That new guy, Sigma_X, is a day-trader, and he completely got on my bad side right off. I should probably give him another chance, but after looking at his website, he’s so clearly got a sense of self-superiority that I can’t bring myself to.

I shouldn’t talk shit about people when they’re not around, but that guy has annoyed me more than almost anyone else on LGF.

He doesn’t suddenly go from being 2 years older to being 3 years older.

He’s “X” number of MONTHS older and it stays the same.

New power play in Gaza. A power station in Gaza was operating at a fraction of its capacity. Hamas blames Israel for not providing the fuel. Israel says that the problem is that Hamas and Fatah were fighting over who was paying for the fuel and that Hamas was refusing to pay its share for the fuel to power the Gaza power facility.

Israel provides 70% of Gaza’s power needs from power plants located in Israel. Egypt provides 5%; the Gaza power stations provide the balance.

Heh. I always thought of James as being the Rotweiller Puppy (from the Forum Warrior archetypes someone linked to a while back.) Enthusiastic, often (too) fierce, and not yet grown into his full strength. With the proper care and feeding though, he would grow into a formidable warrior for the liberals here.

Mystery Space Plane’s Mystery Mission Approaches

[Link: www.foxnews.com…]

“The U.S. Air Force is on the verge of showcasing a new and long-sought after spaceflight capacity with its X-37B space plane, but it will do so on a space mission that’s cloaked in secrecy.

What the X-37B mission truly portends is in the eye of the beholder, from a game-changing tool to hone military hardware to a provocative harbinger of things-to-come in terms of space warfare.

Now ready for an Atlas boost into Earth orbit from Florida on April 20, the reusable robotic X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV) is a small space shuttle-like craft. The craft will wing its way into Earth orbit, remain aloft for an unspecified time, then high-tail its way back down to terra-firma – auto-piloting down to a landing at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, or at neighboring Edwards Air Force Base as back-up.”

OT: I am bummed today because I just learned that Michael Spencer (better known as the “Internet Monk”) finally died of the cancer he had been fighting for so long. One of the only Christian voices that was widely heard and well liked by Christians and non-Christians alike is no longer with us.

Reading his essays is a revelation of what Christianity could and should be without the craziness, hypocrisy, and damaging political activism, I am going to miss reading him quite a lot.

Haha good call, i’ll get right on it. I have saddled myself with the most unserious of usernames to discuss the pressing issues of our times. It seems somehow fitting.

I figure you can’t project gravitas via a title so well through on a forum, so why not just push in the opposite direction. Fozzie popped into my head. I’ll do my best contribute things that shed more light than heat to the discussion.

I want you all to know that this is the place I have come for the past 6 months or so to see what moderate sane people are thinking about some of the less sane goings-on in our republic. I can’t even begin to describe how many times I was foaming at the mouth (fingers?) to reply to something, but couldn’t.

Awww. Another of cute widdle hatchlings, still wet from the shell. So sweet…

A couple of years ago, I read a story about a group of sea turtles that hatched out, and rather than heading out to sea, got distracted by nearby light and walked to an Italian restaurant instead.

Patrons were startled. The eviro-cops were called. The baby turtles were gathered up and taken back to the beach to try again

119 Cato the Elder  Mon, Apr 12, 2010 11:27:43am

For all the new hatchlings and old guard, here’s the poem I wrote for the new LGF cookbook. Comments welcome (although it may already have gone to print).

The Lizards gather for a feast
In Central Park, it seems.
‘Tis not baked ham nor good Roast Beast
On which they feed their dreams.

No, ‘tis gamey buttocks-meats
Of trolls and shrieking harpies -
With demi-glacé graced, and treats
Made out of would-be sharpies.

There’s pounded wingnuts,
Moonbat stew,
Ayn Rand, Ron Paul on spits.
With Stormfront goons
Fried through and through
To sharpen their good wits.

The times are tough,
So beans in cans
Help warm lacertoid breeches.
While Stinky armed with ban-stick bans
The mad unwholesome leeches.

The stalkers lurk, the lurkers stalk
As merry the fire rages.
No need to bother with their talk.
We keep on turning pages.

Walter, Weasel, Brookly Red
And Killgore pile the kindling on.
The flames leap up! The theadbare thread
Becomes a thing to think upon.

You think the Center holds no sway
And good folk sit in silence?
Come visit us at dusk of day
And eat and drink sans violence.

The Right and Left all stand aghast
That such a thing can be:
Folks of all hues join in repast,
And let their troubles be.

In good times and in hard you’ll find
A welcome here, my friend.
Just don’t start trolling your behind -
Or on the spit you’ll end.

My point was that in general I think Tina Fey would prefer that she didn’t have a chance to mock Palin because she was out of the limelight and not trying to do anything important, but as long as Palin keeps trying to mainstream herself, she’ll have no choice but to serve on the frontlines of comedic warfare…

No, it would be a Montreal hooker giving Fozzie Bear a spanking….waka, waka.

Anyone seen the Sarah Palin Network?

Cato’s not a fan of that network. He recently started shopping a program called “Twit Baiting” where Cato, Killgore and some friends go around baiting Sarah Palin and other morons and revealing how little them know for the amusement of the home audience.

I have seldom laughed so hard as I did the day a friend forwarded me a buch of furry porn. I had no idea this wasn’t a joke to these people. I mean, doing it in a giant stuffed animal costume has to be some kind of joke to the participants, right?

Apparently not.

Furries mean it. And Fozzie is scared to go in public as a result.

The cat overlords will not approve the latter part. Horning in on their territory. The like of anime catgirls is allowed since that simply shows appreciation of some of the features that make the cat overlords the supreme beings that they are.

Important questions for the newbies:
Paper or plastic?
Supersize your fires?
What’s that thing in the Guinness draft can?
Spit or gel?
Wax or, um, wax?
Have you ever seen two worms copulating?
You spent the evening eating mushrooms and smoking pot. Your really fucking high. Your host offers you a 1/4 filled mason jar of moonshine. Should you

a. except, knowing he will be most pleased, but ignore it once in your possession?
b. make an excuse that your really high, and shouldn’t?
c. realize your already really fucking high and get on with the death march?

Failing this simple quiz will put Liberals in the closet with the AM Crew or Conservatives at the dinner table with the overnight crew.

Let it be known that if it floats your boat, and it doesn’t hurt anyone, I am all for it.

Me thinking its bizarre only increases my fascination with the minds that created it, rather than spurring derision.

So, to all furries present: I may laugh, but its only because I am entertained. And if a hottie shows up at my door dressed like a cat woman, I would be the first to grab the catnip and go to town. So I guess, in some small way, I too am a somewhat closeted furry.

Barry Rubin pontificating on education:

History should not consist of learning only that your side was good. But it is even worse if history is taught as your side having only been bad. History should teach about the shortcomings of democratic societies. But it is even worse if it is taught to demonstrate only the shortcomings of democratic societies. And students should certainly not be deprived of knowledge about the depredations of dictatorships, including those conducted under the name of Communism as well as fascism.

One thing I’ve learned to appreciate is that the educational systems in the country vary widely. The shocking indoctrination I’ve seen in one county of Maryland does not necessarily extend elsewhere. Indeed, Texas seems to be going too far the other direction, with the right-wing exercising excessive power. This is not good either. There is something really important about being able to stay toward the center—and that applies to resisting pulls in both directions.

How do all.

I attempted to register some months ago here, but have never been able to do it - AT&T has a server-side firewall that simply blocks any attempt at a registration email, and even designating my computer as a DMZ doesn’t fix it. So somewhere there is another account from my connection that never completed registration - hopefully that won’t be a problem.

I have read political blogs for years, and have never registered, posted, or commented at any of them. Essentially, I believe that there is no point to attempting debate on the internet - it is impossible to change people’s opinions even in live discussion, much less in this medium.

However, much of what I see here tempts me to believe that I may be wrong. Hopefully I am.

Welcome to all the new folks and a big shout to any Prog brothers and sisters who took the plunge.

Welcome to the jungle. And now an appropriately themed jungle song:

Now I’m the king of the swingers
Oh, the jungle VIP
I’ve reached the top and had to stop
And that’s what botherin’ me
I wanna be a man, mancub
And stroll right into town
And be just like the other men
I’m tired of monkeyin’ around!

Oh, oobee doo
I wanna be like you
I wanna walk like you
Talk like you, too
You’ll see it’s true
An ape like me
Can learn to be humen too

( Gee, cousin Louie
You’re doin’ real good

Now here’s your part of the deal, cuz
Lay the secret on me of man’s red fire

But I don’t know how to make fire )

Now don’t try to kid me, mancub
I made a deal with you
What I desire is man’s red fire
To make my dream come true
Give me the secret, mancub
Clue me what to do
Give me the power of man’s red flower
So I can be like you

You!
I wanna be like you
I wanna talk like you
Walk like you, too
You’ll see it’s true
Someone like me
Can learn to be
Like someone like me
Can learn to be
Like someone like you
Can learn to be
Like someone like me!

That guy must be on disability. It’s one thing to troll a blog, but a blog like this with such wickedly small windows of registration? And he’s gotten on like 4 times?

re: #222 HoosierHoops

There is something going on there with him..A 2 time SuperBowl Champion and Handsome young Quarterback does not need to feel up College girls in the Bathroom of a bar..
What do you want to bet it was just like the scene from Top Gun when Tom Cruise was hitting on Kelly in the woman’s bathroom?

No one disputes this girl was hammered…that makes it very different to me…

re: #221 Aceofwhat?

Seriously. How big of a douchebag do you have to be when you’re a professional athlete but can’t do any better than trying to get college girls drunk on the weekend?

I suspect the attraction is ITSELF the drunk college girls.

re: #230 WindUpBird

I suspect the attraction is ITSELF the drunk college girls.

= douchebag…

…at least that’s how the equation works in my mind. it’s one thing to think ‘hey, that college girl is hawt.’ it’s another thing to go reserve a VIP room in a club in a small town whose college is the only attraction.

re: #194 Fozzie Bear

Let it be known that if it floats your boat, and it doesn’t hurt anyone, I am all for it.

Me thinking its bizarre only increases my fascination with the minds that created it, rather than spurring derision.

So, to all furries present: I may laugh, but its only because I am entertained. And if a hottie shows up at my door dressed like a cat woman, I would be the first to grab the catnip and go to town. So I guess, in some small way, I too am a somewhat closeted furry.

WTF, I joined this site to talk about politics… what have you people done to me!??!?!

Welcome to LGF. You’ll enjoy the LNDTs.

re: #92 Obdicut

What the fuck?

What the…

Fetishization of dead Jews? Is there a worse way to put Holocaust remembrance?

In antidote to that, for those of you who haven’t read it, I’d like to recommend the beautiful, haunting, harrowing, terrifying book by Primo Levi about his experiences in the camps:

[Link: www.amazon.com…]

The whole point of having a remembrance, whether specifically of the Holocaust or of one of the many wars we’ve engaged in, is not to encourage the festering of hate and anger, but to remind us of the horrors we are capable of creating when tribalism is given free reign and to be well armed against allowing them to happen again.

Welcome hatchlings!
Get your first post over with!
How did you find LGF?
Have you been reading a long time?

It took me 2 years to find an open registration.

Read the rules at the top of the page & you’ll be fine!

LOL! It was very impromptu; thrown together as a result of getting sick and tired of carrying it around Ybor after winning it from a claw machine for my woman. But you’re dead right, Quato was the inspiration. :)

Hello everyone, been a long time … too much going on and very little time to stop by. Number 1 — welcome all new hatchlings, great to have you here. Number 2: some time ago, Charles posted some pix by someone [maybe Charles himself] using some kind of digital multi-exposure or multi-F-Stop settings that made the pix look awesome. Can’t remember when, where, who … can anyone help me out? Would really be grateful.

Thanks, G-of-1

252 Ulysses  Mon, Apr 12, 2010 2:02:34pm

Hello everyone!

I found LGF several years ago through Andrew Sullivan’s Daily Dish blog and have been popping back on and off ever since. But recently LGF has drifted to the top of the list of blogs I read on a daily basis, so when I stumbled over this open registration (pure luck), I decided to take the plunge.

And as I look through this thread filled with welcomes, science fiction references and cat girls, it seems I’m in the right place.

258 Fozzie Bear  Mon, Apr 12, 2010 3:38:53pm

A random observation from reading this blog for the past 6 months or so:

It is *so* much easier to follow a conversation within a thread when people use blockquotes to show not just to whom they are responding, but also to what they are responding.

I’m wearing out the scroll wheel on my mouse trying to follow some of them.

Just a thought.

just a bit of happy news. Went to vegas with the fiance this weekend and everything is set for the wedding in october. Getting married by a lake (not on the strip) with catered reception and everything included for a really good price.

Congratulations!
