Of course, it'll amount to nothing, and the wingnuts will call this some ObamaO conspiracy to skeer us into submission!

It's funny in a way, seeing how much they resemble the left wackos when Bush was President. And they were anti-American!

46th and Broadway is the same location as the Shahzad SUV bombing fail. That means we're talking about the Marriott Marquis again.

More here.

The package will be stripped of its citizenship and deported.

It'll amount to nothing until it amounts to something, and that day may not be today, but it is a guaranteed future event.

Clarification - the suv was on 45th - but the Marriott is located between 45th and 46th.

Here's hoping it's merely suspicious.

re: #8 Obdicut

Via the Daily News:

The section of W. 45th St. between 7th and 8th Aves. was shut down, along with 7th Ave. between 45th and 46th Sts.

A short time earlier, police responded to another suspicious package report on 8th Ave. and 45th St. - near where accused bomber Faisal Shahzad parked his explosives-laden SUV.

The package turned out to be someone's lunch, police said.

NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the number of reported suspicious packages was up about 30% since last Saturday's botched bombing.

There were 145 calls on Thursday alone, Kelly said, up from the typical 90-100 per day.

It's also the eighth suspicious package reported since Saturday.

Zing!

It will hopefully turn out to be nothing but I'm glad they are being vigilant.

This may or may not turn out to be a false alarm, but there's no doubt that America is in extreme danger from radical Islam. We've been lucky so far but our luck can't last forever.

True, but don't rule out radical Islam, you're letting political correctness get the best of you.

Heh. At least they're not freaking out about Lite-brites.

Overall, New Yorkers seem to have pretty healthy attitudes towards the risks of terrorism, not letting themselves get overwhelmed by it.

That is one thing I most certainly not... but worth the laugh nonetheless. :)

It already amounts to a test of our response.

I'd be a bit edgy, too, if my city had been attacked in 1993 and 2001 with devestating results.

In Israel they would have detonated this and moved on about their business. It would not have made the press or spoken about at the water cooler. Oh how I miss living there.

35 pons  Fri, May 7, 2010 11:58:55pm

Hi there. I rarely comment to talkbacks but I feel compelled to do so now.
First allow me to be glad that it was "only" a cooler, and my congratulations to whoever reported it.
All those making fun of it are wrong. It is NOT over reacting, it is not a reason to invoke martial low (you sir know what you are), but it is a sobering reminder of how close those who want to harm Democracy and Liberty are of being successful.
Living in Israel for more that 20 years has taught me not to be over confident. I remember a time when I had to teach my kids not to kick soda cans or indeed anything on the street.... Yes, I'm sure that they were all of them soda cans, or stones or whatever, but still I didn't take a chance (would have you, smart asses?) because once the thing really got boom!, and somebody got hurt.
And you keep poking fun, and deride the authorities about they over reaction, and feel superior for doing so. Me, I'll hope that every time it is a cooler, and that everybody is safe.

You are right. This should be standard operating procedure for a country that has a terror threat.
