I have followed US politics pretty closely over the last 8 years (guess why!!!) and one of the things l do when at work ( l work for DSGI International, the largest electrical retail company in the UK) when i’m standing around not serving customers is peruse the net following some of my favourite US political sites.
Imagine my dismay when l found out that Little Green Footballs has been blocked on my works server.
What is the reason?
Well, according to the wonderful creators of Norton Internet Security, the company Symantec, it’s because (drumroll) LGF HAS BEEN CLASSED BY THEM AS A HATE SITE.
Now l have a problem. As l am supposed to be working and not following US politics l cannot really point out to head office that LGF do a great service in exposing hate sites and hate groups. It may have been the recent links to the insane commentary and actions of Pajamas Media and the nutjob Pam Geller that has done it, but l now cannot access the site in daylight hours unless l am at home or a friend’s house, which is annoying as have used LGF on more than a few occassions to point out some nutty action from American Right Wingers.

Unfortunately, some companies are way too quick to add websites to blacklists, and they can be gamed by malicious people who want to block a site like LGF. This has happened a couple of times before.
The only way to get the blacklisting removed is to protest to your IT department. If you can’t do that I don’t know what else to advise.

I had a very weird experience several years ago. I could access LGF from work but not from home! I called my service provider and explained the problem but they said LGF was not blocked for their subscribers.
The problem went away when I tossed my Netgear router and replaced it with a Linksys.

LOL, apparently Beck’s crappy novel was a rewrite from one of the ghost writers earlier crappy works.
Recently it came to light that Glenn Beck’s new novel The Overton Window is rather similar to another crappy novel Circumference of Darkness. It seems that the reason for this is that the ghostwriter of Beck’s novel, Jack Henderson, also wrote Circumference of Darkness. Now a correspondence has been found from an angry Glenn Beck to his hired hack. Apparently Beck thought he was buying a new novel to put his name all over.

S.F. considers banning sale of pets except fish
Sell a guinea pig, go to jail.
That’s the law under consideration by San Francisco’s Commission of Animal Control and Welfare. If the commission approves the ordinance at its meeting tonight, San Francisco could soon have what is believed to be the country’s first ban on the sale of all pets except fish.
That includes dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, rats, chinchillas, guinea pigs, birds, snakes, lizards and nearly every other critter, or, as the commission calls them, companion animals.

As I posted earlier, that’s inaccurate. The only ban is on sales in pet stores, not a ban on private sales, or adoptions from the pound or rescue organizations.
It is also unlikely to pass, as the scientific studies are saying that the shelter animals do not largely come from pet stores.
Finally, San Francisco euthanizes 13% of all shelter dogs and cats, versus 35% nationally. We do amazingly well at placing animals, and this is, in spirit, part of that; the reason this is being even considered is how many people abandon their hamsters and other pets at shelters, and the difficulty in placing those animals.

‘Near-riot’ in the sky as delayed flyers miss World Cup semifinal
Aircraft unable to land at Durban because of private planes clogging King Shaka airport
The Guardian (UK) 07/08/2010
Author: David Smith

“A near-riot erupted on an aeroplane over South Africa as football fans rushed towards the cockpit to protest at missing last night’s World Cup semifinal between Germany and Spain, witnesses have claimed.
The fans were among hundreds of angry ticket holders whose flights were delayed or turned back because Durban’s new King Shaka international airport was full. Some complained that priority had been given to private jets used by celebrity spectators such as Paris Hilton and Leonardo DiCaprio.
The atmosphere became fraught on a flight from Cape Town to Durban when the captain announced it was being redirected to Johannesburg, passenger Jay Moodley told the Mercury newspaper. “There was almost a riot on the plane and about 10 foreigners rushed towards the cockpit,” he was quoted as saying. “The captain told them that they would be arrested if they did not sit down. Things were very tense.””
…………….
“ACSA said problems arose because some VIP planes, which were supposed to land at King Shaka airport and later park at an old airport some 40 miles away, would The congestion problem was caused by some private airplanes [which] refused to move … after landing, therefore blocking landing space for other planesnot move. “,” airports chief Monhla Hlahla told 702 Radio. “Priority had to be given to VIPs who were caught up in the situation. We had too many flights wanting to land and at some point we had to instruct them to turn back.” The company insisted passengers would not be reimbursed.
The disarray was a rare setback for a tournament that has defied sceptics with its smooth running and few hiccups. Organisers have, perhaps prematurely, already hailed it an unqualified triumph.
Rich Mkhondo, spokesman for the World Cup local organising committee, told Reuters there was nothing the organisers could do about the incident now. “Unfortunately, these kind of things happen,” he said. “We will be meeting with ACSA later today to make sure this doesn’t happen again during the final.”
Paris Hilton, meanwhile, posted on Twitter after last night’s game: “Back in Johannesberg [sic] already. Shortest flight ever. Only 15 minutes.”“

Abbas to Arabs: We’d Support a War Against Israel
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas told Arab leaders that the PA is ready to wage war on Israel if the rest of the Arab world does, according to the PA daily Al-Hayat al-Jadida as translated by Palestinian Media Watch.
“If you want war, and if all of you will fight Israel, we are in favor. But the Palestinians will not fight alone because they don’t have the ability to do it,” Abbas quoted himself as having said at the March Arab League Summit in Libya.

We didn’t give them unconditional support. We didn’t give them any direct military support. We only gave them logistical support.
In addition:
As a result, the United States exerted tremendous pressure on the Israelis to refrain from attacking the trapped army, even threatening to support a UN resolution to force the Israelis to pull back to their October 22 positions if they did not allow non-military supplies to reach the army. In a phone call with Israeli ambassador Simcha Dinitz, Kissinger told the ambassador that the destruction of the Egyptian Third Army “is an option that does not exist.”[179]

CNN’s firing of Octavia Nasr protested
CNN’s firing of Senior Middle East News Editor Octavia Nasr has prompted an outcry from Arab-Americans, angry about what they see as a double standard when it comes to coverage of the Middle East in the American media.
Nasr’s 20-year career at CNN ended Wednesday after a tweet mourning the death of Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, a Lebanese Shiite cleric whom she called “one of Hezbollah’s giants I respect a lot.” Facing a rash of criticism, she explained her tweet in a blog post, saying her respect was based on Fadlallah’s advocacy for women’s rights. But by then, it was too late. CNN put out a statement a few hours later, saying her “credibility” had been “compromised.”
Good for CNN firing her.

While I wouldn’t deny Muslims the right to have a mosque anywhere, subject to zoning laws, I do think this is a poor choice of location by them given the inevitable ill will it will generate from many who remember Muslims dancing in the streets after 9/11, in more places than Gaza.
However what makes me more than mildly critical is hearing that the head honcho is a son of one of the founders of the Muslim brotherhood; and if anyone says that he shouldn’t be tarred with daddy’s crap, I say get a brain. We lambasted Obama for less direct connections to many unsavory characters.

It’s not hair-slitting at all. We didn’t, and don’t, have a mutual defense treaty with Israel and I wish we did.
When Nixon told his Cabinet and Military to give the Israelis any item they needed, even taking hardware from active units to prevent them from suffering defeat… that’s pushing in your chips on their side.
Definitely. And then we basically ordered them to not take a specific military action so that we could remove Egypt from the Soviet sphere of influence. That’s using Israel as a political pawn.
Having Kissinger relay that is just good Diplomacy, backed by having already shown the Israelis that we had their back.
No, Kissinger’s plan was specifically aimed at gaining US dominance in Egypt. This was the height of the Cold War.

From the article:
“What we hear from everyone is that the basis is negotiations. At a time that the entire world agrees about this… We are unable to confront Israel militarily,” Abbas told the PA envoy.
Abbas, who is serving his fifth term as head of the PA after unilaterally extending his term in office, has made several statements in recent years that have raised concerns as to his true intentions. In 2008, as Israel and the PA engaged in peace talks, Abbas told a Jordanian paper that he opposed terrorism “at present” but that “things may change.”
Of course, this doesn’t make Abbas exactly a saint, but he is not advocating war.
Also, this stuff comes from Arutz Sheva
[Link: en.wikipedia.org…]
Arutz Sheva is an Israeli media network identifying with Religious Zionism. It offers online news in English, Hebrew, French and Russian in three formats: written, internet radio, and internet television. The Israeli government has never granted it a license to broadcast, prompting charges of government discrimination against the Religious Zionist public. Arutz Sheva sees itself as “the only independent national radio station in Israel” and a counterbalance to “the ‘negative thinking’ and ‘post-Zionist’ attitudes so prevalent in Israel’s liberal-left media.” Based in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), Arutz Sheva is seen as the voice of the Israeli settlement movement.
This is NOT to imply that reports are false, but we should be mindful that Arutz Sheva has a pretty clear agenda.

Well this ain’t cool…
Guns Belonging to Israeli PM’s Bodyguards Go Missing At NYC Airport
Four guns belonging to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bodyguards, which were last seen at JFK Airport, have vanished in “an incredible comedy of errors” that has deeply embarrassed US officials.
The search for the four 9mm semiautomatic Glock 17 pistols “is priority No. 1 in American law enforcement,” a Port Authority source told The Post.
“They [the Port Authority] have opened up the checkbooks on this one,” another official said about the probe of the massive security error, which is also being investigated by the FBI, Secret Service and Israeli authorities.
The official noted the bodyguards “are Netanyahu’s personal protectors — they are like Secret Service agents on the presidential detail.”
American Airlines yesterday authorized a search of its workers’ lockers at JFK because of the possibility that the guns were stolen there from a carrying case — which was then misdirected to a Los Angeles-bound plane, to delay discovery of the crime.
But “the working theory is that the guns are in New York,” said a source. “Anyone who came in contact with that bag [case] is being interviewed and the authorities in Los Angles are doing the exact same thing.”

re: #110 Jimmah

How about I just quote it in whole?:
I’m not really on the show. As you can see, Stewart just replays and ridicules a portion of my recent appearance on the Hannity Show. He singles out for mockery my statement that Islamic law dictates laws for non-believers, whereas other religious traditions don’t, and juxtaposes my statement with a number of speakers saying that American law is rooted in the Ten Commandments and the Judeo-Christian tradition.
Stewart’s entire argument here in favor of the building of mosques at Ground Zero and elsewhere is based on the assumption that Islam is equivalent to Judaism and Christianity in its compatibility with the Establishment Clause and the sacred/secular distinction that prevails in American society and law. He is assuming that Islam has no political or supremacist character that is any different from that found in Christianity, and that if Islamic supremacists wish to impose Islamic laws on non-believers, that’s just the same as Christians fighting against abortion laws, etc.
The only problem with this is that it’s false. No doubt Stewart has never heard of the dhimma, the institutionalized subjugation of non-Muslims and denial of their equality of rights that is part and parcel of Islamic law in all its various forms to this day, but it is a very different thing from Christians or Jews working in the public arena for popular acceptance of their programs. If Christians or Jews were working subversively to impose laws that would strip equality of rights from whole segments of the population, but as I showed in my 2007 book Religion of Peace?, such contentions about “Christian extremists” are largely chimerical, and designed to distract attention from the real and growing threat to Constitutional liberties — that of Islamic supremacism.
Anyway, I’d be glad to discuss these matters further with Jon Stewart, either on or off the air. But let’s just say I won’t be waiting by the phone.
Video heads-up thanks to Kamala.

No, I do not. I also think that Spencer blanks out history and political reality whenever it’s convenient for him and his scaremongering. For instance the fact that Christianity had made its way into the law of the land in almost the entire world not long ago. The Thirty Years’ War and other atrocities before the separation of church and state are a horrific testament to this. To suggest that Islam is going to overturn this institutional boundary in either Europe or the United States in the foreseeable future is ludicrous.

i watched some of the Mars mission show over the weekend (NGeo or Discovery or something…narrated by Shatner…talking about the current state of hurdles and potential solutions) and it’s amazing how quickly the human body degenerates in zeroG.
Of course, on an elongated ship, you can set it spinning around its central axis and create artificial gravity.
Then i started to wonder if zeroG were so detrimental, would we see equally large muscle and bone gains from spending extended time in G+ situations? if the 6-month trip were spent in 1.2 Gs, would the astronauts emerge far stronger than they’d otherwise be able to achieve in normal G, even with more strenuous exercise?

(and I’m not talking modern since I love sleek modernistic buildings and mid century modern decor, I’m talking about the boring pseudo fill-in-the-blank way we build things in the suburbs now days.)

So, Christians or Jews wishing to impose their religious views on others by making them law is just somehow different from when Islamists do it, because Islam is different.
You buying that?
Shariah is different in that it seeks to subjugate non-believers and women to SOME Muslim laws which are repugnant to our common law and constitution.
You buying denying that?

I happened across a mosque yesterday while driving in an area of Houston yesterday for the first time. It was absolutely stunning architecture with golden minarets. It was feast for the eyes and I appreciated its beauty, standing out as it did in a otherwise dull and rather depressed area. What happens inside is of no more concern to me than what happens inside any other church.
Not to tar them all, but I suspect you could not find a single jihadist terrorist that wasn’t converted in a “church”. I think you should be at least as concerned as many of us were about what was being preached in Obama’s ex church.

That’s my opinion above. I would like to see more progress made on cooperation with between Muslim nations an the rest of the world on political basis more than I am concerned in sharing scientific endeavors with them.
If the scientific outreach works, fine, but it’s not the way I would do it. Just because it’s my opinion, doesn’t make it wrong or right, workable or not workable, just my opinion.

Wasn’t it rather unfortunate that Bolton mischaracterized Obama’s Muslim outreach directive as being the prime NASA directive from the administration?
Also, using joint space and technological initiatives to reach out to one’s cold war enemy is hardly the same thing as the directive to use NASA to reach out to Islamic countries to make them feel good about math and science. Or is it?

Spencers’s whole schtick is to claim that Islam is a uniquely contemptible religion. Only Islam has an expansionist agenda; and only Islamic fundamentalists seek to impose their religious views through law. The geniuses of the ‘anti-jihad movement’ also seem to believe that only Muslims have a taboo about pigs a belief that has been the basis of many a bigoted comment or act. Quoted for truth.
I’ve been highly critical of Spencer since his post “Welcome to Germany” on Jihad Watch in which he posted a picture named “finde_den_fehler.jpg” (find the mistake/error) showing a house with almost all of the apartments flying turkish flags. That was the whole post.
This was during the European Soccer Championship of 2008, and of course a lot of the ethnic Turks or turkish immigrants here in Germany who often, like any ethnic minority, live closely together, displayed their support for the turkish soccer team, which was doing rather well back then.
When it was pointed out in the comments that he did not really present a clear argument but was rather playing with xenophobic sentiments, he defended himself like this:
Of course this is a picture about soccer. So many of you seem to have missed the larger point, however: sure are a lot of fans of the Turkish team in this building. And all over Germany.
There are implications to that.
Cordially
Robert Spencer
“Implications”… I know this vague sort of “I’m just sayin’” talk that demagogues spread who want to incite but at the same time not be responsible for anything. It is the sort of threatening talk dished out by the spineless who rely on the imbecile thugs who fall prey to them to carry out their bidding.

Cretins like Spencer make it difficult to discuss the very real problems that exist within Islam.
Lefties have a tendency to draw false parallels between abandoned or antithetical practices in Christianity and Judaism from ages past, with very real modern practices of Islam today.
I am not going to attempt to paint all of Islam with one brush. To do so would be as ignorant as painting Irish Catholics with the same brush in all things as Russian Orthodox. The part that I found rather interesting was the charges that they plead to - not registering to the authorities as a foreign agent. So, its apparently ok to be a spy, as long as you tell the authorities.
Washington is full of lobbyists registered as foreign agents. Many are in prestigious law and publicity firms.

Yep - Islamic fundamentalists are dripping with misogyny and a hatred for all things secular. I detest them. But we shouldn’t characterise all of Islam as being represented by the goals of it’s most foaming at the mouth fundies any more than we should characterise all christians or Jews by their worst.
All bigots characterise entire groups by the opinions and actions of their worst individuals - and that is Spencers shtick down to a tee.
And I absolutely agree with that - except it misses in magnitude of how bad it is and scale of adherents to those extreme views. What we would like to lable as extreme is common enough in the Middle East to not be so extreme.
There are to the best of my knowledge no Christian or Jewish decapitation porn videos for example. No Christians or Jews dance in the streets after a successful martyrdom operation. I could make a longer list. But the point is that Islam as practiced as a religion today by a vastly higher percentage of extremists, is on the whole, substantially more violent and backwards than either Christianity or Judaism. There is really no way around it.
That does not mean that educated and decent Muslims do not exist. Of course there are millions of educated and decent Muslims. However, it is foolish to pretend that only a small minority, at its worst, is the problem.

The rest, she said, was not available to the press. “

at the risk of dredging up weak-sauce from the 2008 election that Naso Tang still clings to as if it were his blankie:
The point was is that the media was motivated, highly motivated, to comb through everything Wright ever did like they were looking for the Crystal Skull, twenty years of video tapes, anything to bring down Obama, anythign to sell advertising, any shred of rhetoric that could be used to scare and exploit the Christ out of white America. An angry black man connected to a black candidate? That is mainstream media gold for an election year. That’s a glittering pyramid of platinum.
Huckabee, on the other hand, never had to endure any such scrutiny, despite being a preacher himself. Because hey! Good old boy network. We know he’s square! Nothing suspicious about that guy!
Why is that? Why was Wright so much more scrutinized than any of the many crazyass preachers who have been attached to Republican candidates for decades? Why was he so much more scrutinized than an actual preacher *candidate*? An actual preacher, who I might add, has bonkers-radical outside the mainstream ideas?

Ha! Elena Kagan has been endorsed for the Supreme Court by none other than 2 Live Crew…(why? you ask?)
In 1989, Elena Kagan filed an amicus brief arguing that 2 Live Crew’s album, As Nasty As They Wanna Be, which had been banned by a federal judge because of its sexual content, wasn’t obscene in part because no one could possibly be aroused by it. “Nasty does not physically excite anyone who hears it,” Kagan wrote, “much less arouse a shameful and morbid sexual response.” A higher court ultimately overturned the ban.

Humorous yet accurate segment by Jon Stewart regarding NASA Administrator Charles Bolden’s comments in the Middle East. My thought also led to the USA’s “outreach” to Russia by NASA during the close of the Cold War.
Part of motivation behind the objection is that many see Muslim countries as the enemy. I find this odd considering their concerns over Russia and the recent SALT treaty agreements and the equalization of nuclear capacity therein. Surely according to these standards Russia presents a larger threat then Middle Eastern countries within the context of nuclear weapons. If we use this standard then we should not be cooperating with Russia let alone providing frequent outreach and educational programs.
One has to wonder (in the current atavistic climate) what the reaction would have been when the Apollo 11 astronauts traveled to Mexico City for a parade where Buzz Aldrin, Mike Collins, and Neil Armstrong donned Sombreros to participate in a PR event that inspired many a Mexican.

I think in this conservation we’re confusing two different issues. Conservative American evangelicals views regarding laws in America and the same group regarding Israel. As far as legislating biblical piety on the general public, I’m deeply opposed to any theocratic impulse, and will publicly fight against it as a Christian myself. But as far as American evangelicals, Israel has never had as good an ally in the world. Again, how are they an existential threat to Israel the way, say, Iran is? I just don’t see it.

Israel contains many of the places mentioned in the Bible, so of course Christians want to see it protected from destruction. And moderate Muslims do speak out against the radicals in their faith, quite regularly…but don’t expect them to get much press.

To me, this is a weird case. There are far more obvious cases of police excess all over the place, but people focused on this one. I have no idea why.

Verdict just got announced. Johannes Mehserle (former BART police officer) found guilty of misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter in the shooting of 22-year-old Oscar Grant. At the time of the shooting, Grant was detained, unarmed and face-down after an New Years Eve incident on an Oakland BART train.

Israel contains many of the places mentioned in the Bible, so of course Christians want to see it protected from destruction. And moderate Muslims do speak out against the radicals in their faith, quite regularly…but don’t expect them to get much press.
i am judging effectiveness, not intentions here; it’s the only prudent yardstick when lives are at stake.
and the lives at stake tell a clear story about the current state of danger around Israel: rogue Christian theocratic regimes are not exactly at the top of the list. it’s quite simple.

Stewart is always funny, but he’s not obligated to be balanced or even accurate in his analogies.
For instance his Reagan clip in no way was related to a Government space agency being directed to make any particular ethnic group “feel good” their primary mission.
I’ll give Stewart credit for both being funny, and for shooting at both sides, including Islam itself.
Though these days it might be politically incorrect to do this one.

I completely agree, but i’m also sympathetic to the viewpoint that some crazy fucked-up Neo-Nazi who fancies himself a soldier of God seems like a “religious right nut” to many non-Christians, whereas we just think they’re nuts…not true Scotsmen, in other words.
So i think that you and i define the lunatic fringe of Christianity to be much smaller than others would define it, and i think that all of us could make some logical statements in support of our positions.
In the end, it’s so patently clear that Christians are not in competition for “biggest threat to Israel”, we can be magnanimous about the fringe details.

Perhaps you noticed the press about him in the Islamic world? No? Well it was universally laudatory, to the extent that the main editor for the Middle East at the NYT was fired for expressing love and respect for the spiritualism and wisdom of the terrorist.

re: #415 Walter L. Newton
Here is one example:
[Link: www.thereitis.org…]
The vast majority of Jews desperately want to avoid a full-scale conflagration between Israel and the Arab world. Dispensationalists don’t. In the dispensationalist narrative, Christians will be raptured to heaven before all the fighting between Jews and Muslims starts. Everyone left will face mass death and destruction. “Some people see some of the imagery in Revelation being caused by nuclear weapons,” says Brodrick. Thus evangelical Christians’ support for policies like the permanent takeover the West Bank and Gaza and even, in some cases, the expulsion of Palestinians into Jordan, should be understood in the context of a worldview in which world war is inevitable.
Eckstein recalls an ad for a prophesy book in Charisma magazine that said the post-rapture tribulations would “make the Holocaust seem like a party.” Though he believes most evangelicals are more “humble and responsible” than that author, he says, “There are those who are so definitive and absolute about the future, and their theology does entail the destruction of millions of Jews in the battle of Armageddon. I believe it says in the Book of Revelation that the blood will be so high that it will reach the bridle of a horse.”
Dispensationalist Christians believe that this is all in the service of establishing the reign of Christ on earth. Yet while they chase this fantasy, they’re content to put real lives — Jewish lives — on the line. “It doesn’t make me feel any better when they tell me to keep the whole West Bank when I don’t think that’s for the benefit of Israel politically,” says Gorenberg. “When somebody’s hope for where Israeli policy will lead is Armageddon, clearly they’re going to be judging things differently.”

That’s a touchy situation. When they do get press, they also get death threats from other muslims.
The best analogy is that of Germany in the 1930s. Not all Germans were nazis, but those who were not and spoke out were silenced. Ultimately the the fact that the good Germans could not overcome the bad led to the world’s largest conflagration and 10s of millions dead.

I disagree entirely. Wright isn’t at the top of anything. He was publicly humiliated by the President of the US who remonstrated him and cast him aside. That isn’t being at the ‘top’ in any way, shape, or form.
In addition, he doesn’t have a multi-milllion dollar mansion, as you said, but a one million dollar mansion. I’m currently living in a three million dollar mansion (no, really, it’s a family property in SF that I somehow have to figure out how to pay inheritance taxes on, eventually). Am I at the top? Apparently you don’t recognize when someone is agreeing with you. Fine by me. It’s not my problem.
My apologies.
Your comment about differences in cultures sounded like an excuse for the response we saw.
While there are differences in culture for sure, the innate tendency to excuse purveyors of violence is rooted in the respect for anyone who claims to be acting out of religious conviction and is more than what we usually call “culture”.

I would say an ally that only wants you to thrive in order to fulfill prophecy, thus bringing about the ultimate demise of the Jewish people, isn’t an ally at all.
Having said that, radical Islam is clearly a greater threat to Israel than radical Christianity. But, radical Christianity is more of a threat to our way of life here in the US than radical Islam could ever be.

I agree. Radical Muslims want to start the holy war themselves, radical Christians, usually of the Dispy sort, just pray for God to do it for them. As far as the British-Isrealites, they’re so tiny that they don’t represent a credible voice within Christianity. They’re also batshit crazy.
And the British-Israelites (at least the ones I am very familiar with) have no designs on holy warfare. As far as they are concerned, they are Israel, where ever they are at, and that the promises are for them.
Now… British-Israelites thought is behind the KKK and other Covenant groups (Identity groups) and some of them have the “army of god” mentality, and some of them would like to see an armed church in this country… but I have yet to find any organized assembly of Christians who believe that THEY THEMSELVES will start the war on the Plains of Megiddo.
I could be wrong, that’s why I am asking for some background on that concept, because I haven’t seen it.

And Mehserle’s explanation, which I believe, is that he meant to tase him, but shot him instead. I don’t even agree with an involuntary manslaughter verdict.
To me, this is a weird case. There are far more obvious cases of police excess all over the place, but people focused on this one. I have no idea why.
Yes, of course. A handgun and a taser look and feel exactly the same.

It is when someone is claiming that some Christians will physically start a war in Jerusalem. Yes, there are “army of god” type groups in this country, but like I said up thread, in the least, these groups feel the need to be armed against the US government in case the US government “oversteps” their “freedoms.” In the worst, some of these groups would actually like to start a war, at least an insurrection, and for some groups, that would be a race war.
But I have yet heard of a group, large, small or fringe that actually holds a dogma that they themselves will put a standing army in Jerusalem and bring on Armageddon.

I think there’s a reason for that Walter. They’re really aren’t any links to be found for that specific assertion. Hey, btw, I may have already mentioned this to you before. But maybe not, so here goes. Knowing your interest in the Christian Identity movement I thought you might be interested in a newer book called Blood and Politics: The History of the White Nationalist Movement from the Margins to the Mainstream. It’s huge and took quite a few years to compile. Leonard Zeskind wrote it. I think he overstates the “mainstream” aspect a bit. But it’s a great, if scary, resource. I think you’ll like it.

OK Everyone -
Here is How I understand the “Deal.” Muslims should be allowed to build mosques, where and when they want, within the same rules/laws as Churches, Synagogues, Ashrams, etc. - this IS America the last time I looked.
Said Mosques should also be held to the SAME Tax Exempt Rules as Churches, Synagogues, Ashrams, et. al.
That said, I believe the “Cordoba Islamic Center” to be insensitive in the extreme, especially considering the taqqiyah answers one gets about the financing of that Mosque. Just my “two cents” in this matter.

I said “wishing/praying”, which includes all of the above, although in this particular discussion it was concerning those who do so from a purely religious, prophetic basis.
Regarding your assumption that I think prayer is irrelevant in the real word; I certainly don’t. People act on their own prayers and on those of others regardless of whether a deity does.

I see 99 million/5 years to play in Miami..

Actually I do Obdicut. Radical Islamists want to wear the boots on the ground during the fighting, radical Christians hope to “flip the switch” that will provoke the fighting in order to bring on the end. There is a difference there. I think that’s Walters point.
And my point is I never said the Christians would physically start a war.

I ripped this from a hardcore site that might not be welcome here (Worldview). They freaked over this study from Ft. Leavenworth. It contains the url to a .pdf file. Officers write such theses for review during Command and General Staff College and similar courses.

Yes, of course. A handgun and a taser look and feel exactly the same.
If this nut is mistaking a loaded handgun for a taser, he should never have been anywhere near a handgun.
Hell, a pea-shooter would have been too much for him.
No, they don’t. It’s a mental mistake.
Otherwise, you think he just decided, in front of tons of witnesses, while being recorded, to simply shoot someone, knowing that he would go to jail, lose his job, etc. This wasn’t being done in some back alley somewhere. This was in front of witnesses.
There are plenty of cases of cops actually being complete assholes, and murdering people. Let’s go after those.
