My neighbor Ed was a kindly old retired school administrator and teacher who could be seen puttering around his rose garden or just sitting on the porch watching traffic go by. He knew a lot about education, though, and provided some timely advice at several points in my academic career.
I had known him for some time before I found out he had flown 97 combat missions in a P-47 between D-Day and the end of the war and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He thought it was no big deal.
Ed died in 2004 at the age of 85. I still think of the house 2 doors down as "Ed's place."

The BMW logo is a spinning prop from their early days as airplane engine designers. The air cooled R series has a direct lineage to air cooled aircraft. And their fast and handle with amazing agility. The horizontally opposing pistons in the R series have a stabilizing effect when cornering.

Just back from a short drive and walk down to the local river. Managed to go between the rain showers. Did not see any bears or even eagles. Guess the salmon run was not too good over night.

One early morning when I was riding frequently, I was out in southeastern Indiana, heading west towards the Markland damn on my BMW R/75. I pulled up to a red light in a small town when I heard a honk behind me. Obviously someone in a hurry at 6am on a Sunday, so I waved them around. A nice looking Harley pulled past gunned it the rest of the way through town in what appeared to be a show of derision for my old, red Beemer. He pulled fairly quickly out ahead, I was in no hurry, and I didn't really want to get stuck behind him, so I dawdled a bit the rest of the way through town and eased back out onto the 2 late highway. About 20 minutes later, I was pulling through a long stretch of corn where I could see him in the distance. I quickly caught up and could here his Harley trying to muster some more speed down the stretch. Cruising in 3rd at about 60 miles an hour, I pulled into the opposing lane to pass him. As I pulled along side, he made one more valiant effort to get his Hog some juice by toeing it into high gear and twisting the throttle. I smiled and calmly popped my gear into 4th, hit the throttle and felt the front shocks of my motorcycle lift up as I surged forward. I could barely hear his choking carburetor a short while later as I rushed into 105mph, released the throttle and leaned hard to the left into a turned that dipped down and up through a grove of maple trees. The force from the curve kept my speed from decreasing to quickly and I emerged on the other side about 80mph with that exhilarating feeling you get watching the pavement rush by at high speeds, and the cylinder head lingering right above the asphalt as you guide your body and the motorcycle threw a turn.

Angle laid out this position in a candidate questionnaire that she filled out for the Washington-based Government is not God PAC.

In question 35A of the questionnaire, Angle was asked:

Would you refuse PAC money from those who are fundamentally opposed to your views on social issues?

Angle checked the Yes box. The questionnaire then asked:

In reference to question 35A, Intel Corporation supports "equal rights for gays" and offers benefits to "partners" of homosexual employees. Would you refuse funds from this corporate PAC?

She has become an emblem of everything that is wrong, backwards, uneducated, anti-intellectual and greedy about America - with a self serving dose of Jesus thrown in for good measure.

She has the charm of a chocolate éclair, lovingly crafted with runny feces riddled with amoebic dysentery for chocolate, and the foetid, warm ooze from a particularly large boil (recently popped under an obese man's left armpit) for cream - without the chocolate.

Now these are not wild claims, dear reader.

I can make the case strongly that all I say is without hyperbole. [Ed. note] Well the bit about the éclair creme coming from the lanced boil of a fat man was not right. I should have added that he was terribly sweaty, and the éclair has some short, dark, curly hair of unknown origin added liberally as a garnish.

But I have to ask you, do you think I am being too gentle, and instead should continue to characterize her as the broken love slave of Yog Sogath who will spread madness, darkness and corruption in order to enslave humanity to the old gods?

Or, should I instead focus on the obvious things like she is a moron who couldn't pass high school if she were put back in it - even in a Red State education system?

Or, should I focus on her bigoted populist and racist cries that pander to the worst in America?

Or, should I focus on her lies, and hypocrisy, like pointing out that cap and trade was a Reagan idea that she ran on - before it became cap and tax - which sounds much like how she was for that bridge before she was against it? Perhaps talk about the death panels?

Or, should I focus on her anti-education stance. Her creationism and denial of AGW?

Or, should I focus on her simply being a craven quitter who abandoned her post.

Or, should I focus on her belief that abortion should not be legal? I rather imagine taking her discussion of life beginning at conception, and asking her about an ectopic pregnancy. After the term was explained to her, it would be interesting to hear her back pedal. Then, of course, point out that according to her, since all life began at conception, she was supporting murdering babies.

Or should I focus on the fact that she has the class of one of those semi feral children who was locked in a barn for her formative years because her parents were trying to hide the product of incest?

Or, should I simply call her the comedy portion of the tragedy?

Yes that is correct. Part of the joke for many of these shirts is that they are factually inaccurate: Obama was born in Hawaii not some scary far off land, Social Security is already a government program, gays already have the right to vote and Obama is left handed. "Grossly misinformed" was my watchword when designing these shirts.

For the "Right Handed Like Hitler" shirt in particular I was just trying to convey the most general and useless way to compare someone to Hitler. I was thinking about using either "carbon based life form" or handedness. I checked to see if he was a righty or not and when I saw that he was a lefty I figured the joke worked better that way since A.) the vast majority of people are right handed, making it a pretty useless way to compare someone to Hitler since it applies to nearly everyone, and B.) in this case he's actually part of the small minority that doesn't fit the bill, making the comparison even more ill informed and foolish.

About Angle's promise not to take donations from companies which support gay rights...

OBX are pretty much the best party of NC. Nothing like summer weekends out there.

Wilmington area is booming. The beaches are becoming 'urban' if you know what I mean.

Lost the post: a friend in the ac business told me some people have had problems with the installation of the new stuff becasue their installeer didn't flush the system completely of freon, and the mix of chemicals doesn't work well.

This agreement begins implementation of the U.S. European-based Phased Adaptive Approach (EPAA) for ballistic missile defense and enables the stationing of a U.S. land-based missile defense interceptor system in the Republic of Poland. The agreed ballistic missile defense site in Poland is scheduled to become operational in the 2018 timeframe and constitutes a key element of Phase 3 of the EPAA. Upon entry into force, this agreement marks an important step in our countries’ efforts to protect our NATO Allies from the threat posed by the proliferation of ballistic missiles and weapons of mass destruction.

In addition to deepening our bilateral strategic relationship, we strongly believe that our cooperation in this area makes a substantial contribution to NATO’s collective security and is an integral part of any future NATO-wide missile defense architecture.
The United States Government welcomes the strong commitment of the Government of the Republic of Poland in contributing to efforts to counter existing and future ballistic missile threats.
