I'm watching some episodes of "Outsourced" now. My Indian coworker has mixed feelings about it. She thinks it's funny, but a little offensive.
Anyway, the American who's been sent to take over the call center in India is in the cafeteria at the company now, and there are these giant tubs of Indian food on a steam table, and he's looking at them really dubiously. And all I can think is "Oh, get out of the way and let me at that stuff"!

I watched part of the film version over the holidays with my mum and I found it pretty painful. Way too much tokening, combined with way too much stereotypical indian enlightenment experience.
That being said, I love both palak paneer and spanikopita. Also, two of my favourite things to make with my partner. We might actually make palak paneer tomorrow.

My feet are exactly the inside-out reverse of each other in physical patterning (pull the rubber glove off one hand, insideouting it, and find it fits the other hand). Physics has found no straight lines--only waves. All courses are steered by alternate right and left veering. I see the human scene in the same way. A 25-year-old self-described "gun runner" faces federal prison time for defrauding the federal government in a $300 million Pentagon ammunition contract.Miami Beach-based AEY Inc. Tucker on Vick: ‘Of course I don’t think he should be executed’
[Link: dailycaller.com...]
“This is what happens when you get too emotional and I did,” Carlson said. “Look, the bottom line is I’m a dog lover. You know, I’ve had dogs my whole life. We have three now, I love them. I know a lot about what Michael Vick did – what he admitted doing and I’m not going to get into it on the show because it is too upsetting. Anybody who takes some time to look into how he mistreated these dogs and personally tortured them to death, gets upset and I, you know I overspoke. I’m uncomfortable with the death penalty under any circumstances. Of course I don’t think he should be executed. I do think what he did was appalling. “

Actually blocking it wouldn't be politics as usual. You'll notice that's a straight up-and-down vote, not a cloture vote.
There are often cases where Democrats or Republicans will vote against a bill because they know that it will pass anyway and they're puffing themselves up. That's politics as normal.
Actually blocking the passage of needed bills isn't politics as usual.

The majority party usually wants to spend and the minority party wants to obstruct spending because obstruction is the only leverage they have to get what they want (which is usually more spending). Of course, almost no one is actually interested in limiting government growth. This is because most voters see the US government as a giant credit card that they never have to pay the bill for. I think holding the debt ceiling hostage is crazy, but maybe at least some people will become aware that the US is borrowing money just to pay debt service, and maybe people should start worrying the a real default is possible down the road once the US can no longer borrow at a reasonable price.

Because it can fall off the thermocouple into the ash pan, if smacked with a vacuum cleaner or dislodged somehow, and kids, WHO CAN'T SEE PAST THIER NOSE, will vacuum it up when cleaning out the ash pan. We've lost one before, they have been warned to be careful, make sure they are not knocking it off, make sure it's not in the ash pan, make sure you are not sucking it up into the vacuum.
That doesn't help worth a shit.
But the really annoying thing is the cost to get another one. They are 21 dollars, in my mind, a bit high for a 3 inch piece of ceramic, about the diameter of a Sharpie, weighs about an ounce. I can see the price being a bit steep, it's a specialty item, supply and demand and all that.
BUT ALL THE ONLINE COMPANIES WANT 14 DOLLARS TO 28 DOLLARS TO SHIP IT. That's "clip joint" tactics. You could put this part in a 4x6 padded envelope and mail it for a buck and a half.
Going to try to find it locally, but last time I had to replace it, even the shop we got the stove from didn't have the part on hand. But last time, I didn't pay that much for shipping. I can't figure how the shipping suddenly skyrockets.
The stove will work without the thermocouple cover, but that can diminish the life of the thermocouple... and that part is 72 dollars (AND PROBABLY 45 DOLLARS SHIPPING).
And on another note... my coffee tastes good this morning.

The personality traits that allow a person to kill a dog by holding it by its legs and slamming it into the ground or holding its head in a bucket of water to drown don't go away after a year in a minimum security fed facility. The planet would be a better place if he weren't on it.
As an Eagles fan and native to the Philadelphia region, I agree.
You don't do what he did and then just morph into a good human being spontaneously. You don't torture animals and then later sprout a soul. As far as I am concerned, that man just isn't wired with the proper circuitry for compassion, and people like that, I can never trust.

Good idea. I've left a message with the local fireplace/pellet stove installer/dealer in out neighborhood to see if they have the part on hand, but if they don't (last time I called around, no one had it on hand), I'll try that tact.

I'm not sure I'm seeing where you disagree. Soon there will be a vote to raise the debt ceiling, both sides will take 180 degree opposite views than they held in 2006, and the debt ceiling will be raised again. Is your point that Dems were actually for raising the ceiling in '06?
I think I agree with you: the more I look at this, the more it smells like politics as usual. Boehner will try to get whatever he can for the GOP out of it, Reid/Obama will resist, and we'll see who blinks.
I further assume that each party will approach this on the basis that it will set the tone for the rest of the session, so they will be doing a ton of posturing. So we have a lot of ugly rhetoric to look forward to, I guess.

Symmes spent his entire life advocating his hollow-Earth theory on the literary circuit and gained quite a few followers. True, those were simpler times, but they sure as hell weren't that simple -- the hollow-Earth theory was already known to be utter bullshit. What Symmes proposed was the 1800s equivalent to sending people to the moon to find cheese. He wanted to mount an expedition to silence his critics and also to conduct trade with the mole people.
Unfortunately for Adams, the Mole People and the Crab People went to war shortly thereafter. The resultant conflict came to be known as "America's Secret Underground Vietnam."
Adams approved the expedition, which would venture to the North Pole, where the entrance to the underworld was supposedly located. Unfortunately, the crazy road trip never came to be, as Adams left office before anything could be done. As luck would have it, his successor, Andrew Jackson, was a man who believed the world was flat. Naturally, Jackson promptly canceled the expedition and along with it, dashing of contacting mole people.
You now, I've honestly never heard of the hollow-earth theory. Wonder if there are still any believers? :)

A gunman assassinated the governor of Pakistan's Punjab province, a senior member of the ruling party, in Islamabad on Tuesday, an aide said, as a new political crisis gripped the strategic U.S. ally. Salman Taseer was killed by one of his guards because of his opposition to Pakistan's controversial blasphemy law, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said. Malik said the slain politician's guard, identified as Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, confessed and had been arrested but investigations would determine if others were involved.

So strange.
Growing-Catholic I learned that the "purpose of life" was to serve God. As an adult, either thru marriage and parenthood or thru Holy Orders. Obviously, one who is not going to have children (homosexuals) would join an Order.
It is not homosexuals the Church does not approve of, but homosexual acts because they would be sexual acts outside of marriage.
Not that this is my opinion, just pointing out a real disconnect between theology and practice.

They aren't perfect, but the splits are pretty dramatic:
Is the earth warming?
D's: 79% yes 14% no
R's: 38% yes 53% no
If yes, is it because of human activity?
D's 53% yes
R's 16% yes
How serious a problem?
D's 82% very or somewhat serious
R's 41% very or somewhat serious
I would like to see all the yes numbers higher across the board. But this is what you get when you mix science, money and politics: the big money has moved a lot of people to the no column. Sad.

He was Taseer's bodyguard. That means he must have known him fairly well, greeted him every morning, probably met his family, etc. Yet he was able to gun the man down and extinguish his life without looking the least bit upset about it. What CNN fails to point out is those women can't shoot. They dangerously fidget with their weapons and even hand grenades while posing for their photo op. CNN also repeats the baseless claim that there are 10's of thousands of them. A few of them may launch suicide attacks but they are useless as a fighting force.

Well, the Mossad can train sharks, why not other animals?

And, they are nowhere near as hot as the IDF girls.

It's a figure of speech. However, scientifically, humans are animals and belong to the kingdom, animalia, as do other mammals.
I feel less ill than I do disgust with this form of terrorism. My concern is mainly for those I see as my allies and less in trying to understand the actions of this killer. Let us feel ill instead for the man that was murdered by this monster.

It makes for a great drinking game. Every time someone in the leadership comes out and says something completely opposite of what they said just 4 years ago.....Drink!

Is your point that Dems were actually for raising the ceiling in '06?
Haven't had time to research it yet, but yesterday I heard the Pres Obama voted a big fat "NAY" in '06
Every dem voted against and all but one republican voted for. 99% switch in 4 years and it all comes down to which party holds the white house.

Yes, if you go farther up the biological classification hierarchy, we are indeed all animals.

I thought my comments on the assassination pretty much indicated the same thing, namely horror at Tafseer's brutal murder & visceral revulsion at the actions of his assassin. As for trying to understand the killer's actions, I think most people already do since murderous ideologues are nothing new.

It's a propaganda thing. Effective for both an Arab and a foreign audience, so--win-win.
