anyone got a transcript? I can't listen at work, headphones are broken.

This is what Fox News has done. Sure, you can find nuts and extremists at any rally but what happens when "normal" people show up to these rallies and see what's going on? Pretty much all the regular folks have dropped the Tea Party thing and all that's left is the nuts. In spite of all the warnings early on the wingnuts refused to clean house and support whatever nonsense Glenn Beck and Fox news produced. This is the result.

Ugh. I could barely get halfway through that. I just don't understand how people can function as human beings with that level of paranoia and lack of comprehension.
Of course, here in South Jersey, the contractor I just hired put the word "President" in scare quotes when talking about Obama. He shifted the conversation before I realized what he was saying. Apparently, birtherism isn't just a Dixie thang.

You're right. I can only watch the first half of the video at the moment-- problem on my end-- and that woman in the red hat is spouting Glenn Beck talking points ad nauseum.

Part of our country's problem today is that many influential members of the Republican Party agree with those folks in the video, but they use higher vocabulary and aren't as honest about their ignorance.
10 | Nevertires Wed, Apr 20, 2011 9:50:48am |
Yes - the people in the video were regurgitating the same tired old mantras. I found myself mouthing the answers before they were given. If others were with me it would have been a great drinking game...
11 | nines09 Wed, Apr 20, 2011 9:50:56am |
I always thought it was quite the trick to convince "others" that they don't want what you have. It's all dog whistle buzz words and the gullible swallow it whole. I wonder how many have SS payments and if they think about what their wonderful party want to do to them freeloading socialists them. What a pack of dolts.

They aren't as honest about their knowledge, either. I'm sure plenty of people know damn well Obama is a Christian American, but are happy to use these folks to promote themselves anyway.

A little of both, unfortunately. How about that guy in the Texas legislature who proposed a law banning Sharia law in Texas because he "heard on the radio" that Sharia was being practiced in Dearborn MI ?
The problem is, a law passed by someone who is ignorant or someone who is pandering to ignorant people, is the same bad law.

Education. You can't do it at gunpoint, but all you can do is try to inform people better. The ones in the video think they are discarding bullshit, but they have replaced it with other bullshit.
Politically, I think it's more productive to educate people who haven't already decided that Fox and Glenn Beck tell the truth.

The sad truth is that most of these people are old, set in their ignorance and racist views. Though I wish them all a long life...it is inevitable that a lot of this thinking will go by the wayside eventually. Not all of course, but I see a much more tolerant generation to come.

Heh-forgot about the weed connection. This day used to have 2 other meanings for me:
1. Hitler's Birthday
2. The 2nd anniversary of being laid off from my previous job.
Frankly, seeing how the other meanings suck, I'm happy to have a different reason to observe 4/20!

My high school students would ask every 19th, with a smirk, 'Do you know what tomorrow is, Mrs. SFZ?' To which I would always answer "April 20th? Hitler's birthday. Why do you ask?"
It puzzled them.

If I may...
(from LegalZoom.com)
Donald Trump has become infamous for telling business mogul wannabes "You're fired!" every week on primetime television. Yet, after Trump's casino operations filed bankruptcy for the second time this past November, many have wondered if it isn't time for board members to give Trump a pink slip. Despite the company failings, Trump will remain as chairman and CEO and continue to collect a $2 million dollar paycheck.
So there's *multiple* reasons to be enthralled with The Donald. There's the birther issue, he's rich and successful, and he knows how to game the system and get away with it.

Yeah, well, it's all fun and games till you show up for night lab (cooking class, 2-6:30PM) and one third of your classmates are absent because they're off enjoying SF grown THC in the green and you're the Sous Chef and have to pick up the slack. But I'm not complaining. The substitute chef actually shook my hand and thanked me for doing a good job in the face of much work and stress. So, it's all good come to think of it.
Now that I'm home, I can celebrate 420 day on my own time. :)
