Both games (so far) came down to about 4 minutes (each) of Miami dominating
In the 1st game, it was early when they went from a tie (I think it was about 12-12) to a 12 (or so) point lead. The rest of the game was pretty even
In the second game it went from 80-80 to 92-80 in a flash, again with the rest of the game even
I think those few minutes in each game is where the age vs athleticism came into play and in the NBA, a few minutes a game is all it takes

Probing Osama links, US tells Pak to name top spies
Pakistani officials say the Obama administration has demanded the identities of some of their top intelligence operatives as the United States tries to determine whether any of them had contact with Osama bin Laden or his agents in the years before the raid that led to his death early Monday morning in Pakistan.
The officials provided new details of a tense discussion between Pakistani officials and an American envoy who travelled to Pakistan on Monday, as well as the growing suspicion among US intelligence and diplomatic officials that someone in Pakistan’s secret intelligence agency knew of Osama’s location, and helped shield him.

Attacks, gun battles rock Kandahar
Gunmen launched a series of brazen daylight attacks Saturday on several locations in Kandahar City, a former Taliban stronghold where international and Afghan forces are trying to establish security and government.A purported Taliban spokesman said the attack was aimed at seizing control of Kandahar. Qari Yousef Ahmadi said more than 100 militants flooded the city, including men freed in a bold prison break last month.
At least eight locations were attacked: the governor's compound, the mayor's office, the intelligence agency headquarters, three police stations and two high schools, according to government officials.
The assailants included at least five suicide car bombers, three of whom were stopped by police before their explosives could go off, NATO forces said in a statement. In the end, none of the assaulted compounds were breached by the militants, NATO said.

Nowitzki is way different this year. He WANTS to go inside at times. I've never seen that from him
As far as the Lakers, I hope they'll be back AS LONG AS THE CELTICS can be too
Growing up in Boston in the late 50's through the 60's, there were no better finals than Lakers/ Celtics no matter who won and it was all rekindled during the Magic / Bird wars

Miami is a great defensive team and that is the foundation of their success. Believe it or not, Joel Anthony is also a huge key for them. He plays the kind of ball that Kendrick Perkins used to play for us.

South Carolina GOP elects Obama's 'worst nightmare'
South Carolina Republicans elected a new party chairman Saturday who vowed to be President Barack Obama's "worst nightmare."
More than 1,000 Republicans tapped Chad Connelly, a businessman and chairman of the Newberry County Republican Party, to helm the party organization through the state's closely-watched presidential primary season.
[...]
Hmmm... I wonder what he believes...
Oh look, he has a website:

And a book:

I don't know much more about him - he may personally be a fine person - and don't have time to dig more right now, but from his book and website it's pretty clear that he is a Barton clone as far as his views of the US are concerned.

The hardest part of middle age is dealing with the increase in family deaths. My mom's death was tough, I still miss her phone calls, but my brother's still kicks my butt almost daily, even though it's coming up to 10 years.
If you're still on talking terms with your mom, do a bit of spontaneous mom worship tomorrow, it'll make both of you feel good.

My current job is going awesome after being unemployed for a while.
I'm working on a national project, and the collection numbers my team is pulling are huge. AM being thrown (almost) more work than I can handle, and my self esteem and just levels of happiness are through the roof.
I'm lost for words how well things are actually going.

I have this energy drink habit, or had, it's local stuff called VISO, and each one is 3 cups of coffee worth, and I'd drink three a day
I cut it all out because I want to get better and more natural sleep, it brings the very artist-important advantage of VIVID DREAMS ^__^
thing from last night after I crashed: flooded half sunken mansion filled with weird socialite dressed-as-June-Cleaver older women who wanted me to steal a truck for them in the neighborhood, but dressed as one of them, like I had to pass as a socialite woman to gain access to where the keys were (for the record, my outfit was purple, lol) no idea where my subconscious dredged that up.
And I remember EXACTLY what kind of truck, it was one of these: Image: fc81212.jpg but blue, an older F250, I think because two of my family members once owned one and my brain just grabs that image first when it thinks of BIG TRUCK

yeha, not me. My sleep is fragile as shit, I can stay up for 40 hours straight and still have trouble getting to bed, I have to reaaally watch what I do now
I have what they call delayed sleep-phase syndrome, meaning my brain naturally wants me to go to bed at 5 or 6am, which is awesome for art! and a pain because sleeping through the hottest part of the day can be a bitch

With this week's big event (OBL's death), I remembered two scenes from two David Gemmell's novels, Stormrider and The Swords of Day and Night.
In Stormrider, the titular character and his father are discussing military strategies[1]. Two of the strategies deviced by the son are mutually exclusive. The father agrees with both of them, and declines to give his opinion. When his son angrily question him, to which the father answered that what his son was looking to offload his responsibility, and, as the self appointed leader, all decisions were his, and the consequences of those decisions, wether victory or defeat, will be hanged on his head[2].
In The Swords of Day and Night, after the first major battle between the good guys and the bad guys army, the bad guys offered the services of one of their doctors to tend the wounded by the battle. After the doctor tended his enemy's wounded, the "old" guy hero gave a rousing speech to inspire his fellow to fight harder. Later, the captain and the hero take a walk to discuss several topics[3], the hero points out that the real reason their enemy lend them a doctor was to humanize them in the eyes of the good guys.
--
[1] I'm trying not to spoil the novels.
[2] It's been quite a while since I read both books, so I'm heavily paraphresing.
[3] Mainly, trying to get the hero to tell his men about the hero's exploits.

WARNING: TOO MUCH INFO LIES AHEAD
When I'm not on either Effexor or Celexa, I have big anger issues.
When I was on Effexor, my soul-crushing depression and anxiety were utterly *gone*. However, it was damn near impossible for me to have an orgasm by any means. It also increased my libido about 37-fold and made me incredibly impulsive. For a couple of years, I was a porn star without a camera. And then there were the brain shivers. If you don't know about brain shivers, you don't know about Effexor.
I was later switched to Cymbalta, which was pretty much the same as Effexor, except that I was able to have an orgasm.
More recently, I was put on Wellbutrin, which initially caused me to lose a lot of weight (don''t worry - I found most of it again later on). I am currently relatively normal.
The problem with these medications is that when they work as intended, you feel normal and well-adjusted. You begin to feel that you're taking psychotropic medications for no justifiable reason (after all, you feel FINE) and that leads you to stop taking them. Who knows what these things might be doing to your stomach, liver, kidneys, etc. These are new drugs, and the data isn't all in yet.
So, you go off your meds and (something something).

It's probably just tylenol. Yes, it will fuck up your liver if you eat too many, but for minor pain relief, it's not so bad. Take a couple, have a glass of wine, and try not to worry about it. Rest, ice, and a little pampering by your sweety and you'll be back in perfect shape in no time.

From what I just read, the zaps seem similar to what I'm calling brain shivers.
It's difficult to describe. If you've ever touched an object that gave you a strong-ish electric shock - a slightly stinging vibration that probably left the shocked body part numb for a few seconds, you're somewhat equipped to understand the feeling. Try to imagine a pulsating version of that feeling in the center of your head for just a couple of seconds.

Hate meds. It's a 'partial' cox-2. I do vitamins, baby aspirin, and wine. Got a couple unfilled Rxs around. Took valium for a muscle lock-up once, and it almost killed me because it didn't clear my system before my next free-fall. Great jump, pulled way low.

There is no vibration with the zap, at least in my experience, just a buildup of electrical energy and then the release.

We've had an unusually good Spring--Tomatoes are 5 ft high, and starting to ripen, the squash and cucumbers have a turf war underway, we'll start eating them tomorrow. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well, just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this! Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer—
Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.

RWC and I took a driving vacation that took us through Idaho, it was a bit of a culture shock for us let me tell you! We just happened to pull into a small town on a Friday night when everyone in town was out at the local park, kids running around free everywhere! We just stood still in shock until someone took pity on us and asked which big city we were from. We told him and he smiled kindly and said it was okay, the did that sort of thing all the time. If you put it on your plate, you should eat it. Learn what the right amount to put on your plate is, and then you're fine.
The issue is that many people let their eyes overrule their good sense in regards to portion sizes. In my quest to lose weight (for the third time in a decade), I'm having to unlearn a lot of bad habits I've picked up over the years.
Bottom line, it's not just what you eat, it's how much you eat and how much physical activity you do that helps to determine whether you lose weight, maintain, or gain weight.

German mayor takes heat for ‘Hamas’ European event
BERLIN – The decision of Mayor Peter Jung and the city council in Wuppertal, North Rhine-Westphalia, not to oppose a pro-Palestinian conference on Saturday that featured Hamas supporters has sparked criticism.
The conference, which was green-lighted by the Wuppertal Municipality in January, took place in a city-funded convention center.
“There is nothing wrong with holding a pro-Palestinian event, of course, but there is something quite disturbing that the organizers saw the need to invite several extremist speakers, including apologists for terrorism, and those with views that many find repugnantly anti-Semitic such as [Bundestag deputy] Inge Höger – especially since the conference is in Germany, of all places," British-born journalist and Middle East expert Tom Gross told The Jerusalem Post on Saturday.
Gross was formerly Jerusalem correspondent for the Sunday Telegraph and for the New York Daily News.
“Pandering to extremists does nothing to advance peace and prosperity for Palestinians and Israelis, or bring us any closer to resolving this conflict amicably,” Gross said.
The ninth “Palestinians in Europe” conference opened its one-day parley titled “The Generation of Return Knows Its Way.” The event was expected to attract up to 5,000 supporters, including listed speakers Amin Abou Rashed, a Dutch-Palestinian fundraiser for Hamas, and Höger, who was on the Mavi Marmara protest vessel last year.
On Höger’s Left Party website, she wrote that Israel has for “many years starved and indiscriminately bombed the population of Gaza because they voted democratically [for Hamas in January 2006]. The legend of Israel as the only democracy in the Middle East is a farce.”
Last month, she blamed the Israeli government for the recent murders by Palestinians of pro-Palestinian Israeli filmmaker Juliano Mer-Khamis and Italian activist Vittorio Arrigoni.
Nasty shit going on in Germany.

The make-up phase came and went pretty quickly. I figured it wasn't an important enough deal to fight about. She got tired of getting up early to plaster the make-up on, and that phase didn't last long at all.

Osama was living in urban Pakistan since mid-2003:
Trying to piece together Osama bin Laden's life prior to the US raid that killed him, Pakistani sleuths today focussed on Haripur district in the country's northwest after his Yemeni widow said the al-Qaeda chief lived there before moving to Abbottabad near Islamabad.Security and intelligence operatives fanned out in Chak Shah Mohammad Khan, a village in Haripur district, after learning from bin Laden's widow that he had lived there for nearly two-and-half years, TV news channels reported.
Pakistani investigators tracing bin Laden's movements since his escape from Afghanistan's Tora Bora mountains have discovered that he had been living in Pakistan's urban centres longer than they had thought, media reports said.
Bin Laden had apparently spent seven-and-half years in the Haripur and Abbottabad regions of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

Do they really think we are supposed to believe that bullshit? They knew where he was. I'm waiting for them to admit it.

Me too, I miss them all very much. I smoked for about 6 years and so did RWC but we both got a real nasty strain of influenza and couldn't smoke for about two weeks with out coughing up a piece of lung so we decided to see how long we could go without. So far it been 24 years and counting. I'm really glad we quit when we did, I lost my Grandfather about 3 years later to lung cancer. See I told you, I'll put away my soap box now. China is already in Pakistan, and has been for a long time. But they won't get deeply involved for the same reason we won't. Radical Islam mixed with nuclear weapons makes for a very dangerous combination, and China would be even more vulnerable than the US if Pakistan boiled over.

Pakistan breaches trust, names local CIA boss
Amid bitter, recriminatory exchanges between the United States and Pakistan over the Osama bin Laden extermination, planned bilateral visits of President Asif Ali Zardari to Washington DC and a return trip of President Barack Obama to Islamabad are both in jeopardy. Ties between the two sides are expected to slide further following Pakistan's "outing" of the CIA station chief in Islamabad on Saturday.
In a sign of how bad ties are between the two countries, Pakistani media on Saturday once again publicly named the CIA station chief in Islamabad, a breach of both protocol and trust, that is bound to enrage Washington.
A Pakistani TV channel and a newspaper considered mouthpieces of the country's military said the ISI chief Ahmed Shuja Pasha had met CIA station chief Mark Carlton to protest US incursion into Abbottabad to kill al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden. CIA station chiefs remain anonymous and unnamed in public although the host government is told.

No, they won't pay. This is retaliation for the raid on Bin Laden. That humiliated them and some kind of butthurt reprisal was expected. Police: IED Found Near Chester Train Tracks
Chester police are urging vigilance after they found an improvised explosive device, this afternoon, near Amtrak and Septa railroad tracks and the Commodore Barry Bridge.
Police say the device consisted of two bottles with a yellow liquid inside. They say one had a timer and wires attached by duct tape.
Police were not sure if the device was really explosive but evacuated the area as a precaution. The Delaware County bomb squad determined that it was and disarmed it.
The device was found about 2 p.m., near third and Reaney Streets. That’s underneath the bridge and not far from the tracks Septa’s Wilmington-Newark line uses.
An investigation is underway.

Hamas breaks up Salafist bin Laden rally in Gaza
Gaza's Islamist rulers Hamas on Saturday broke up a Salafist protest against the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a U.S. raid in Pakistan this week.
Dozens of Salafists -- conservative Islamists who have clashed with Hamas -- gathered in Gaza City's main square holding up posters of bin Laden and chanting "We warn you America, we warn you Europe."
Some banners read "We are all your soldiers Osama" and "Osama is alive inside us."
Hamas police forces cordoned off the square, stopped protesters from marching through the streets and ordered them to leave.
Hamas's head in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh had denounced bin Laden's killing as an assassination "of an Arab holy warrior."
Osama bin Laden supporters in Gaza protesting against his death and yelling threats to America & Europe? Shocka!

The Salafists think Hamas isn't hateful enough. They want more attacks on Israel, even if it results in Israeli reprisals. In their minds; The worse the better, since it allows them to recruit more terrorists from an angry population.

Houston, we may have a problem. From Wikipedia:
On May 7, religious and religio-political parties held demonstrations and rallies outside mosques after Friday prayers across Pakistan including Lahore to protest against the growing US interference, drone attacks, Abbotabad operation and the resultant killing of Osama bin Laden. During Friday prayers, imams termed the war on terror as war against Islam and Muslims, they also stressed that Islamic countries should united to fight against a common enemy. A mammoth rally was also held in Mansoora, Lahore, the headquarters of Jamat-e-Islami against the US operation, where the ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hasan was also present and warned Washington and her allies that terrorism would not come to an end through a war against Islam and the Muslims.

I suspect there are a lot of low-level supporters who helped keep him hidden and supplied all those years. When you have that kind of devotion, it's easy to have a long line of folks who you can mooch off off for support. Add to it the fact that they kept a relatively low profile-no or rare outings, and it was probably easy to keep hidden for a long while.
What tripped bin Laden up was his continuing involvement in jihad and through them, the couriers who had to keep contact with associates- associates who were being watched by international spy agencies. His need to keep control of his movement meant that there was traffic, significant traffic to his place.
Not that the countries of his victims would have ever stopped looking for him, but the longer the delay, the more likely that he would have been able to die in his bed from his kidney problems instead of from bullets. Having them fi nd his grave would have been anti-climatic to say the least.
