Well, sure, if you’re going to cherry pick what somebody said just to make a political statement. And then have the biggest librul in the business try to twist their words around an’ stuff. Those fags in Hollywood are too scared to talk about Newt’s job plan, and getting us right with God, and turning ‘merica around.

Newt was counting on campaigning against a pack of frothing ritght-wing loonies which would have allowed hiim to position himself as a moderate centrist.
But he is too centrist for the party and not willing to take the litmus tests that they now require of anyone wishing to win the nomination.

“So you won’t allow us to search your house without any probable cause sir?”
“No absolutely not!”
“Why not sir, what are you hiding?”
“I’m not hiding anything, I’m standing up for my constitutional rights.”
“Oh, so your a lawyer then?”
“No, I’m not a lawyer, but I know my rights.”
“So if your not a lawyer then how can you be so sure what your rights really are?”
“Because they are in the Constitution dammit, I’ve known my rights since I was in grade school!”
“There is no need to use profanity at me sir. I don’t see why your being so hostile when all I’m asking is to have a look around your home.”
“You aren’t allowed to enter my home without a warrant, thats why!”
“Your mistaken there sir, the Indiana Supreme Court has ruled that we do have the right. Frankly sir, from our point of view only criminals and people trying to hide illegal activities would object to us simply having a look around.”
“I don’t give a damn what you think, you can’t enter my house without a warrant!”
“Sir I already asked you once not to use profanity towards me, you becoming so agitated at the simple request to inspect your home is just giving me reason to claim probable cause to search your residence.”
“What the fuck are you talking about? I’m just demanding my rights! This isn’t Communist Russia or Nazi Germany, this is the United States!”
“Allright sir, I’m going to have to demand that you stand aside and let us enter the dwelling, I am also placing you under arrest for interfering with a police investigation and refusal to comply with lawful police orders.”
“Lawful orders? What lawful orders you fucking Nazi?”
“Your use of profanity sir. I already told you twice to not use profanity towards me sir, your only making it worse for yourself, now step aside and let us enter, I don’t want to have to use my Tazer on you…”

MARK FIORINO’S story has three elements that tend to get people worked up - gun rights, Philly police and YouTube.
On a mild February afternoon, Fiorino, 25, decided to walk to an AutoZone on Frankford Avenue in Northeast Philly with the .40-caliber Glock he legally owns holstered in plain view on his left hip. His stroll ended when someone called out from behind: “Yo, Junior, what are you doing?”
Fiorino wheeled and saw Sgt. Michael Dougherty aiming a handgun at him.
Things go downhill rapidly…
“If you make a move, I’m going to f——— shoot you,” Dougherty snapped. “I’m telling you right now, you make a move, and you’re going down!”
“Is this necessary?” Fiorino said.
It went on like that for a little while, until other officers responded to Dougherty’s calls for backup.
Fiorino was forced to the ground and shouted at as he tried to explain that he had a firearms license and was legally allowed to openly carry his weapon.
“You f——— come here looking for f——— problems? Where do you live?” yelled one officer.
“I’m sorry, gentlemen,” Fiorino said. “If I’m under arrest, I have nothing left to say.”
“F——— a———, shut the f—- up!” the cop hollered.
The cops discovered his recorder as they searched his pockets, and unleashed another string of expletives.
Fiorino said he sat handcuffed in a police wagon while the officers made numerous phone calls to supervisors, trying to find out if they could lock him up.
When they learned that they were in the wrong, they let him go.
That might have been the end of the thing, too, if it hadn’t been for the recordings.
He released the recording on you tube and it went viral.
The Philly police and DA office were not amused. They are now charging him with anything they can think of for showing the public just how spiteful, callous and unprofessional the police were that day.
Land of the free?
Not so much anymore.
Evers said the department decided to take a second look at the case after learning about the recordings.
Any number of things could have gone wrong during Fiorino’s confrontation with Dougherty, Evers said.
For one thing, Evers said, Fiorino could have been shot. Cops who raced to the scene could have gotten into a car accident or injured pedestrians.
Because it is Fiorino’s fault, you see, and he forced the officers to be assholes…

And now the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend I’ll say it clear
I’ll state my case of which I’m certain
I’ve lived a life that’s full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets I’ve had a few
But then again too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Yes there were times I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out, I faced it all
And I stood tall and did it my way
I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my fill, my share of losing
And now as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way
For what is a man what has he got
If not himself then he has not
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
Yes it was my way

Wow. Never thought I’d say the words “45 Grave” and “Nostalgia attack” in the same sentence - I remember seeing them along with half a dozen other punk bands waaay back in ‘82. I didn’t realize they were even still around.
Dinah Cancer is still rocking it hardcore…
Gothic horror punk is one of my guilty pleasures ( I love the Misfits…), considering I usually listen to Celtic traditional music or classic Pink Floyd and some stuff from the 80’s.

So what do you bring over to dinner with a pair of Nuns and their nephew?
I got invited to dinner tonight with Fran and Diedre upstairs since their nephew is in town and I guess they want someone closer to his age present for him to talk with or something (just guessing).
My problem is ordinarily I would just bring a decent bottle of wine to an invite like this, but in this case I’m kinda clueless. I’m thinking of just making a fruit dish like strawberry cream cheese stuffed pears on a pineapple ring bed.
Any other suggestions?

Hey, check it out, a fake survey full of made-up bullshit about Obama about how young post-grads are purportedly abandoning him LOL. Breaking news! Young people hate Obama according to this mystery guy with no web presence or reputation whatsoever! Margin of error plus or minus I DUNNO, IMMA A GOP LICKSPITTLE
Naturally, Hotair loves it some nonsense, so they’re repeating it: [Link: hotair.com…]

Man dumbass GOP fanbois will believe anything, no wonder they hawk so many quack health supplements on conservative talk radio, a google search or two and these guys deflate like an empty balloon
That article is hilarious. They’re desperate:
A very large proportion of recent university graduates have soured on President Barack Obama, and many will vote GOP or stay at home in the 2012 election, according to two new surveys of younger voters.
“These rock-solid Obama constituents are free-agents,” said Kellyanne Conway, president of The Polling Company, based in Washington, D.C. She recently completed a large survey of college grads, and “they’re shopping around, considering their options, [and] a fair number will stay at home and sit it out,” she said.
….
People have had time to reflect on how they voted in 2008, and now they’re thinking about whether they have a job or like their job,” said Maddalone. As their trust in the federal government shrinks, they’re becoming more self-reliant, as their attitude shifts from “‘yes, we can,’ to ‘yes, I can,’” he said. This shift, he said, “is not really being discussed.”

Could not agree more. It’s a hard line to balance.
We had kind of a blow-up on another list I’m on because someone posted a piece on how what happened to Lara Logan was an indictment of Islam, and got quite angry and cranky when people challenged that and gave counterexamples of sexual violence from other cultures.
It pisses me off something fierce to talk to people who get all maudlin about how Islam hurts women, but when you put that in a global context, you’re just being a dumb feminist, and shit happens, and you have to deal with it.

Exactly…and your posts on this are just one of the reasons I like and respect you so much.
(Not that I wanna propose or anything…)
But seriously, women’s rights are human rights…and they are not given anywhere near enough attention. I wrote a paper a month ago (it got an A in my 20th Century Euro History class) on the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland and how they constituted an actual system of religious prisons for women.
Bad stuff. Sexual exploitation, beatings, women being locked away after being raped, or locked away because a nun at the orphanage thought a girl was too pretty and might get into trouble…and of course, for having a baby out of wedlock.
The laundries were run in partnership with the government, since the Catholic Church actually had more power then the Irish government for much of the last century. By disposing of potentially troublesome women and taking them out of society indefinitely, the Church both enforced an official standard of female sexuality and saved the state considerable money by taking unwed mothers and their children (and numerous female prisoners on remand from the courts) out of the state welfare or prison systems.
Ireland thusly ended up with actual religious prisons where you could be sent without trial, writ or access to counsel by your own family…and you could end up there for life. Thousands of women vanished behind the walls and never came out again. They were buried in unmarked mass graves.
The records have been sealed by the Church and it is unlikely we will ever even know most of their names.
Yes, this issue got me more then a little upset.

Well, once you get away from direct apples to apples comparisons, it gets much more complicated.
Julie Burchill used to say that they can tell you how many millions died from communism, but no one kept count of the millions that died from capitalism.
I guess I just tend to see these sorts of problems as part of a regional, even global, set of problems. (I’m big on regional context.)

One of the Slacktivist writers is in Fiji, and thinks she’ll be right at the beginning. Has promised to liveblog the whole thing.

1 AM what time? I mean, I would hate to sleep through it because Christ picked the Vatican City’s 1 AM rather than Jerusalem’s 1 AM.
It’s not clear to me. I won’t go on Camping’s site to find out, though.

Actually one of my favorite Genesis songs, kinda a toss up against “Driving the last spike,” for completely different reasons obviously, but they are both great songs that tell a story.

Speaking of which, WHY isn’t there a big Josephine Baker biopic out, and who would play her?

In the US, mainstream politicians make outrageously bigoted statements about Islam. In that context, I’m not sure that well-meaning criticism of extremist Muslims is going to be all that productive, however morally justified it may be. People in glass houses etc.

Rape and murder and subjugation of women for any religious reason is unconscionable. It needs to be outed anywhere and everywhere it occurs, without fear of offending the religion that supports it, ignores it, or pretends it isn’t a problem.
Absolutely. Which is why we shouldn’t continue to prop up the crazy regimes that do so much to keep women subjugated around the world.

Interesting that the DA feels free to actually retaliate against a private citizen for using his 1st Amendment rights to criticize law enforcement, and especially when that “protected” speech holds proof of wrongdoing.
If this holds, then we are in even deeper trouble then I thought.
This once again is like that Indiana 2nd Amendment conundrum: we have one group of people pressing to uphold our right to own and bear arms, even in public places, and another group trying to control crime.
We were watching the collision of two tectonic constitutional plates.

Fucking time zones. How do they work?
The authors of the Bible did not have time zones, which goes to show how ridiculous it is to try to impose their way of thinking on our world.

There was an HBO movie starring Lynn Whitfield many years ago. But if anyone is deserving of a big Hollywood movie production it is ‘La Baker’.
If one is ever done, i hope it is in collaboration with French Cinema as they were the ones who truly loved her and claimed her as their own while America was making her enter a building through the back door.

I’ve been told the best time to have kids is when you can’t afford them.
I was never jealous of those folks I knew who started having kids while still in high school - I waited until I was nearly 40.
But as a teenager and early 20something, you can get by on a lot less sleep than when you hit 40…

He released the recording on you tube and it went viral.
The Philly police and DA office were not amused. They are now charging him with anything they can think of for showing the public just how spiteful, callous and unprofessional the police were that day.

I am surprised that he is not being held up as a martyr for 2nd AMendment rights, but somehow the circumstances of his detention (and his skin color) speak against him being made into a hero by the NRA lobby.

re: #189 engineer dog

His entire story is so un-biblical that I have a hard time believing anyone has fallen for it.
He says that his understanding of the clues and codes in the bible prove that May 21st is the date of the rapture. The bible whoever says that no man or even the angels themselves will know the date but only God the father.
He says the rapture will be followed by a five month tribulation followed by the end of the world. The bible says that the tribulation will last for seven years and be followed by a thousand year reign of Christ as sovereign on earth before the earth is destroyed and then remade from scratch.
Etc, etc, etc…
For someone who claims that his prophecy is based on the bible he sure does not seem to know a lot about what the bible says. Have the Israeli’s rebuilt the temple? Have they signed a treaty of protection with the anti-christ? Has the one world government headed by the anti-christ seized power over the globe?
Like any other cult leader he concentrates on one tiny piece of the bible’s prophecy and exploits it for his own power and monetary gain. Yet he ignores every other part of the prophecy that must be fulfilled before the “end times” can occur. It is false prophecy plain and simple.
