Letterman asked Cain the other day if he really wanted to be president. Cain's response was a hearty laugh, like what one might expect from PT Barnum. Cain is having fun with this--it's like performance art, setting up a new career most likely for after 2012. But he's not a serious candidate...doesn't know Libya from Uzbekistan from a hole in the ground. "I got all this stuff twirling around in my head," doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Okay, off topic, but I got a bit of a rant.
Their is a Pakistani Muslim friend of mine who is liberal. No issues, except the like of country, music and culture. I like the genre-fuzzy music like Lady Antebellum and Taylor Swift, but not hick music.
She mentions stuff of value like the following.
discovered is that people from these towns were some of the most warm, caring people I had ever encountered. Family values, an attachment to religion, good intentions, great morals. These things significantly matter.
I was in Colorado Springs, a town which in many ways resembles these country places. I was bashed to no end, with no care, and thought of as wrong religious for being liberal.
To be blunt, I hate country. Those people are backwards assholes. The Deep South trope is true. Their culture need to be quashed.

I don't consider anything that isn't south of the Mason Dixon and east of the Mississippi Deep South. Louisiana has a distinct culture, and Missouri, West Virginia, and Arkansas may be hillbilly/Redneck/Southern, but by definition, the Deep South is in a specific location.

From Wiki ,, per Nichelle
There were, however, few contemporary records of any complaints commenting on the scene.[14] Nichelle Nichols observes that "Plato's Stepchildren" which first aired in November 1968 "received a huge response. We received one of the largest batches of fan mail ever, all of it very positive, with many addressed to me from girls wondering how it felt to kiss Captain Kirk, and many to him from guys wondering the same thing about me. However, almost no one found the kiss offensive"

So they'd still be on Julian time, and presumably, still using the old New Year. Also, it was the Roman New Year--well, sort of...so that probably influenced documents in Latin.
The whole thing had to be pushed forward eleven days when it was adopted, to make the equinox go to the right place, and there's a recurrent but probably untrue story that there were riots as a result, people demanding their days back.

Benjamin Franklin's birthday has to be adjusted for it.
The best part is that they recorded the "Latin" version of everyone's name, so I'm pretty sure that Henricus Wilkinson was really good old Henry, and spoke no Latin whatsoever.

re: #85 sattv4u2
From Wiki ,, per Nichelle
There were, however, few contemporary records of any complaints commenting on the scene.[14] Nichelle Nichols observes that "Plato's Stepchildren" which first aired in November 1968 "received a huge response. We received one of the largest batches of fan mail ever, all of it very positive, with many addressed to me from girls wondering how it felt to kiss Captain Kirk, and many to him from guys wondering the same thing about me. However, almost no one found the kiss offensive"
Well, I guess that, among Star Trek's demographics, many fans of the show had no problem with the Kirk/Uhura kiss, because they were the same demographic that were working to end bigotry and for civil rights. My "cultural A-bomb" statement was how, IMO, "the kiss" played in relation to American society as a whole at the time, which was still dominated by a bunch of bigoted dinosaurs.

Really enjoyed the show, though. Lots of fun. The sons are hilarious. I especially liked the scene when Vanozza finds out Rodrigo has a new mistress, and stomps on over to the Vatican. Cardinals are milling around looking panicky, because there is apparently nothing in the Cardinal Handbook that covers what to do when a well-dressed middle-aged woman is beating up the Pope.

Well, by that time they would have gotten English at the court, so the local baron would have used the usual name. OTOH, on his yearly (well, in theory at least) visit, the bishop would likely have used the latin form, I can just imagine that confirmation "Gulielmus?" - nudge in ribs, "that's you, Bill!"

I was in Colorado Springs, a town which in many ways resembles these country places. I was bashed to no end, with no care, and thought of as wrong religious for being liberal.
To be blunt, I hate country. Those people are backwards assholes. The Deep South trope is true. Their culture need to be quashed.
If anyone had spoken, as you have just done, about Muslims, or Jews, or Mexicans, they'd have been banned from this forum.

You're entitled to hate country music to your heart's content, but need need to back up off of the bigotry against southerners. Seriously. The hatred & rage you're holding on to isn't going to take you anywhere good, that much I can guarantee.
It may be a trite old saying, but if you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem. You're an adult now—learn to deal with your personal issues and stop blaming huge swaths of innocent people for the wrongs that were done to you by a few. Or don't, and just keep seething until your heart becomes a leathery, shriveled up nub and no one can stand being around you. Your choice.
