well, it’s really not straight up blues changes at all - it even has a bridge
“why don’t we do it in the road” has blues changes… but the beatles didn’t usually do three chord songs

When I cruise for new music I like to hit youtube, do a sort on various genres, and then sort by recent uploads. The other way to look for for new tunes is to surf internet radio, Itunes, Billboard, NPR, and amazon lists, but you really have to devote a lot of time to it to find tunes you really like. (e.g. I probably listen to 20 or more tunes for every one I buy) So it’s great to hear about the blogs. I’ll have to bookmark a few.
I’d also really like to hear about new music from everyone here — and no, I don’t want to hear about this tune or that tune from 10 or 20 years ago unless its highly obscure - most of my friends are musicians and I used to DJ a *lot*. Chances of you recommending an old tune I haven’t heard before are pretty darned slim.

Oh! Darling
wiki…interesting
Oh! Darling” appears to have drawn heavily on the New Orleans rhythm and blues sound popularised during the 1950s and early 1960s by African-American musicians like Fats Domino; it also seems to have drawn on the Louisiana swamp blues sound found in songs like Slim Harpo’s “Raining In My Heart”. Furthermore, it may have drawn on the related Louisiana genre known today as swamp pop, whose distinctive sound bears an uncanny resemblance to the basic structure of “Oh! Darling” — so much so that some in Louisiana originally thought the song had been recorded by a local musician.[4] (When swamp pop musician John Fred met The Beatles in London in the 1960s, he was shocked to learn that “they were very familiar with Louisiana music.”) Fittingly, swamp pop musician Jay Randall eventually covered “Oh! Darling” for the Lanor label of Church Point, Louisiana

I was poking through Itunes today, Van Halen has a new album coming (the one tune I sampled sounded mediocre) But I did find a Finnish symphonic metal band I like, (Nightwish) and picked up a few of their songs. I also signed up for their cloud service even though I’m backing up to both Frankenputer and DVD’s. The ability to convert many of my old tunes to lossless 256kbps aac was worth the price. Some unfortunately won’t convert from the old 128 kbps format, probably a type of license thing, I’m not sure.

I know it looks like that to me often as well. But the entire entertainment industry is in transition. There’s a lot of cool indy movies and music around on the web but the old school studios and record labels are still churning out the same old tired crap while they go bankrupt. Even with tougher copyright laws it’s going to be really difficult to make money from movies and music. I suspect artists will produce and release their own product (it’s cheap enough now with the improvements in technology) but I suspect the money is going to mostly come from live performances and tours.

I think most of the blame would come from the record studios. From Elvis, the Brit invasion bands the record labels learned that there’s a lot of money to be made. A few companies ended up with a monopoly on distribution and radio play. Eventually they started producing stuff by formula and music acts were manufactured with a target demographic in mind. I think we’ll see a lot of evolution over the next decade or so as the old system falls apart.

People keep saying that music isn’t evolving … but they are wrong. Flanged voices, found sound, looping, and rediscovery of old genres that are now new again are all happening right now. Artists are refining, reinventing, and redefining. They are cutting and pasting, scratching and trashing, some of it might sound old and cliche but really, you might just be looking in the wrong places. (here’s a hint: the bulk of the top 100 has always sounded bland and repetitious…)

That’s the way with pretty much all the creative “industries” these days. Remember hearing the interview the other day with Steven Spielberg about Red Tails, about how Hollywood didn’t want to fund it because it was a film with an all-black cast, which they felt couldn’t be marketed because they’ve pigeon-holed all-black cast films into the “low-budget comedy” category.

The thing about evolution is sometimes it acts in fits and starts, and other time it seems to grind to a halt, with long periods of very little differentiation and mutation. What seems now like a lack of evolution has to do with the stranglehold a small handful of labels have had on the release and promotion of music, which is slowly falling apart as the Internet opens whole markets up to groups that previously would have had to conform to meet “what’s hot.”

re: #70 negativ
Combining those two ideas, Loius CK make ~$1 million in 10 days after directly offering his latest video for sale on line for $5.00 with no DRM of any kind and no middle-man. Hopefully this sort of thing will become more popular.
But then looking at this, I doubt it.
I think the technology for movie making has been so expensive until recently that the movies are still dominated by the mass marketing folks at the big studios. Kevin Smith (maker of Clerks and Dogma) did the same sort of thing with his last movie Red State, he went without any studio backing and did pretty well with it.

Breitbart’s fake pimp and his accomplices screwed up in their attempt at voter fraud:
‘Dead’ Voter Talking: O’Keefe Voter Fraud Stunt Confused 23-Year-Old For Dead 84-Year-Old
Robert William Beaulieu is 23-years-old, lives in Nashua, New Hampshire, and is a registered Democrat. He’s also very much not dead.
But you wouldn’t have known that if you watched the lastest undercover sting video from James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas, which featured a man with an Irish accent attempting to obtain a ballot on behalf of a Robert Beaulieu who lives on Cassandra Lane.
That’s the home University of New Hampshire graduate Robert W. Beaulieu, pictured above, shares with his parents. Robert P. Beaulieu, unrelated, died a few months back at the age of 84, and is apparently the man Project Vertitas’ investigator intended to impersonate. By all appearances, they got the wrong guy.

re: #67 Targetpractice, Worst of Both Worlds
That’s the way with pretty much all the creative “industries” these days. Remember hearing the interview the other day with
Steven SpielbergGeorge Lucas about Red Tails, about how Hollywood didn’t want to fund it because it was a film with an all-black cast, which they felt couldn’t be marketed because they’ve pigeon-holed all-black cast films into the “low-budget comedy” category.
FTFY for accuracy…
About that, the one of the reasons Lucas said he was given when he was having problems with the financing (keep in mind, Lucas has wanted to do this project since 19-freaking-88 or so) was that the studios make most of their gross on movies overseas (60+ percent) and overseas distributors said there was no market for a movie like this with an all/majority-black cast.
