Boehner Calls Obama ‘Un-American,’ WSJ Writer Compares SOTU Seating to ‘Date Rape’

The Republican Party has gone insane
Wingnuts • Views: 23,173

The President hasn’t even given his State of the Union speech yet, but Republicans are already spewing hatred at him.

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner Tuesday forcefully denounced the Democrats’ campaign theme that they are for the middle class and Republicans are for the wealthy – saying the politics the president is running on are “almost un-American.”

“This is a president who said I’m not going to be a divider, I’m going to be a uniter, and running on the politics of division and envy is – to me it’s almost un-American,” said Boehner.

Wow. That’s the Republican Party’s Speaker of the House, actually calling the President of the United States “un-American.” And nobody even blinks.

And appearing last night on the Fox Business show of 9/11 Truther Andrew Napolitano, the senior economics writer for the Wall Street Journal, Stephen Moore, compared the bipartisan seating at the SOTU to date rape. With a big laugh.

Remember back 8 years ago, when the Right threw a collective shit fit when Teresa Kerry threw out the word "unAmerican" during the Dem Convention? That it was a horribly ugly word, and that just uttering it was tantamount to treason?

Amazing how far we've come, huh? Ugh.

Respect for the office (///):

[Link: thehill.com...]

Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) will skip the State of the Union address Tuesday night in what he describes as a protest of President Barack Obama's policies, the congressman's office said Monday.

...

Mortenson is the first GOP member to announce that he's skipping the speech. The last time the president addressed a joint session of Congress - September of last year - multiple Republicans opted out, with some choosing instead to watch the NFL's kickoff game or live-tweet the address from their offices.

...

Lamborn created controversy last summer when he said that being associated with the president would be akin to "touching a tar baby."

"I don’t even want to have to be associated with him,” Lamborn had said, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette. “It’s like touching a tar baby, and you get it — you know, you’re stuck, and you’re part of the problem now, and you can’t get away.”

And a previous Spkr. Boehner statement on the SOTU:

[Link: thehill.com...]

“I’ve read a lot about what the president will talk about Tuesday night,” Boehner said on Fox News Sunday. “It sounds to me like the same old proposals we’ve seen — more spending, higher taxes, more regulation — the same policies that haven’t helped our economy, they’ve made it worse.

“If that’s what the president is going to talk about Tuesday night, I think it’s pathetic,” Boehner said.

Of course when Republicans are constantly accusing the President of being a Marxist, and people receiving public assistance like food stamps and unemployment benefits of being lazy deadbeats, they are being patriotic, just like their hero Joe McCarthy.

Not to be left out, Romney pre-responds to the SOTU too:

[Link: www.latimes.com...]

In a speech to an invited crowd of supporters that was designed as a preemptive attack on Tuesday night's State of the Union address, he said it was critical "that we make today Barack Obama's last State of the Union. No more from Barack Obama."

"The president's agenda sounds less like 'built to last' and more like doomed to fail. What he's proposing is more of the same: more taxes, more spending, and more regulation," he said, predicting that Obama would use his speech "to divide our nation."

...

To applause from his backers, Romney declared that Obama "has run out of time. This president has run out of ideas. This president has run out of excuses. In 2012 we gotta make sure he's run out of the office of the White House!"

...

Sheets of drywall were stacked to his right and a sign that read "Obama Isn't Working" was suspended from the ceiling.

[Link: www.cbsnews.com...]

In his pre-emptive rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union address, Mitt Romney on Tuesday said Obama would serve up "divisive rhetoric from a desperate campaigner-in-chief."

...

The former Massachusetts governor also predicted Obama would "take another victory lap"

Also, frankly, Obama has shown that he is a "compromiser" to a fault. Sometimes making people (myself incl.) mad at him for searching for a compromise with Neanderthals, thus diluting his accomplishments (alas, necessarily, as said Neanderthals have been elected). A double entendre (French pronunciation: [dublɑ̃tɑ̃dʁə]) or adianoeta[1] is a figure of speech in which a spoken phrase is devised to be understood in either of two ways. Often the first (more obvious) meaning is straightforward, while the second meaning is less so: often risqué or ironic.

77 Lord Baron Viscount Duke Earl Count Planckton  Tue, Jan 24, 2012 1:09:17pm

I mean, even if we separate a personal attack from the racist attack, and doubt the latter, it still obviously refers to Obama not literally working too. It's still an obvious double entendre. We can debate whether it's racial, but can we please acknowledge the intentional double meaning first?

The fact that you cannot hear it reflects well on you. However in the overall conservative/reactionary context of careful race baiting and the frothing up of the passively racist grassroots, the "OIW" catchphrase is a distant, psychotic relative of the Tory campaign.

Maybe it is because I am from England, but I simply do not see anything racist in the "Obama isn't working" statement. Romney has previously spoken of the "Obama Economy", with all sorts of ludicrous charges added to it. One only has to look at the improving state of the economy to see that it is simply not true.

Again, Romney is copying this poster from 1979, used by the Tories and Thatcher:

There may not be a racial intent from the Romney camp on this, but it is a convenient double entendre that ties into the "Obama's never had a real job" meme that they've been trying to hang on the President.

It's a bonus for them in their eyes, I'm sure.

112 Feline Fearless Leader  Tue, Jan 24, 2012 1:22:18pm

It's simply a preemptive smear strike. Make a claim about the opposition that more accurately reflects your side and then yell about the MBF when they make an accurate charge.

Thus the claims about Obama being a divider, a obstructionist, etc. etc. It's defensive projection, and it lessens the impact of things they think Obama is going to bring up.

Plus they get the initial spin on the SOTU narrative, and then get to come back afterwards and try to set the final spin.

Wow. That’s the Republican Party’s Speaker of the House, actually calling the President of the United States “un-American.” And nobody even blinks.

Boehner actually said:

This is a president who said I’m not going to be a divider, I’m going to be a uniter, and running on the politics of division and envy is – to me it’s almost un-American

Notice the difference. Boehner didn't call the president "un-American," he called the president's politics "almost un-American."

See that? Even CNN knows the difference:

saying the politics the president is running on are “almost un-American.”

re: #150 Sergey Romanov

But that's what it means. "Un-American" is not a real descriptor. It's a person who does "un-American" things.

And it's a dog whistle for the bigots on the right. Un-American...foreign...Kenyan...same shit, different speaker.

re: #146 chunkymonkey

Charles sez:

Boehner actually said:

Notice the difference. Boehner didn't call the president "un-American," he called the president's politics "almost un-American."

See that? Even CNN knows the difference:

Might at least want to spruce up your headline there, eh? Or does accuracy not matter when you are attacking your enemies?

Hi there monkey, oh master of nuance.

Because apparently there's some physical indicator of being "un-American", other than deeds.

PS: wait a minute...

I waited to see if anyone else would mention this, but noting that no one did....

Of course, to be fair, Obama did call Bush “Unpatriotic” (due to the $4 trillion debt increase).

Maybe the speaker should have said Unpatriotic. Would that have been better?

re: #37 Charles

The right wing blogs are incredibly worked up about Obama's SOTU. We could be approaching the wingularity.

It has been proven by now that the wingularity is unapproachable - every time you think we've hit it, they go even farther. It's been tested repeatedly by now.

Given the language of the AZ law that nixed the Ethnics Studies program, I can't see how this class could be feasible.

Oh...right. I always forget about the basic premise of two parallel standards.

Yeah, I was gonna comment that Yawehistic mythology is not technically Greco/Roman traditions...

Can you tell us what exactly is "patriotic" about starting a premptive war in the middle east that drew man power and resources away from the actually justified war that we were already fighting?

Can you tell us what exactly is "patriotic" about no bid contracts to rebuild various parts of that nation which you already spent so much money destroying in the first place?

Can you tell me what exactly is "patriotic" about giving a great big tax break to people who didn't need the money by a long shot?

That won't happen until election night, especially if Obama wins a second term.

That is a night I will be staying away from all public places. Should Obama win, and I think he will, I suspect a fair number of people may be picking up their Second Amendment voting machines, and using them.

“An economy built to last, where hard work pays off, and responsibility is rewarded.”

Besides ripping off the first part from Ford, this sounds racist by the measure used for comments by Republican candidates.

But you have to give "The Man" credit for coming up with the idea that future "means-testing" for federal programs should not be based on the money you save during you lifetime.
