More Complete Video of Zimmerman’s Arrival at Sanford PD Posted

Again, no visible injuries at all
US News • Views: 35,918

The City of Sanford has uploaded a more complete set of video clips showing George Zimmerman being brought into the police station after killing Trayvon Martin, and again there is absolutely no evidence of injuries to Zimmerman, neither on the back of his head (which supposedly had “lacerations”) nor to his nose (which supposedly was “broken”).

Youtube Video

Meanwhile, right wing “news” site The Daily Caller isolated one split second from the earlier ABC News video and “enhanced” it to show what they claim “may be an injury.” But it’s very obviously a reflection of the overhead light on Zimmerman’s shaved head; many other views of Zimmerman’s head show absolutely no injuries in that area. The Daily Caller’s attempt to claim otherwise is, frankly, ludicrous.

Sure would be nice if someone would investigate this case other than internet sleuths scrutinizing YouTube and Twitter.

Remember when the right-wing sites were outraged that (they thought) Martin supporters were digitally enhancing photos of him to make him look more innocent(?).

A week is a long time these days.

I wonder if there's a booking shot or the police took photos for evidence.

What the video doesn't show of course are the multiple lacerations and devastating head traumas that are revealed by a just few minutes work with Photoshops 'pen' tool.

Actually, those screencaps from the old ABC website video have nothing on the video Charles posted. It makes it obvious the enormous, head-splitting gash the Daily Caller tries to invent with a sharpen-filtered single frame, isn't there.

Actually, that the State's Attorney who personally came down to the station and declined to allow prosecution is full of shit. Not everybody at the PD appears to have agreed with that decision.

It's got to be frustrating as a policeman to watch what your colleagues can get away with, yet be constrained from speaking against them by the "keep it in-house" culture.

My guess is whoever leaked the video is one of those who's weighing the potential of losing his pension/benefits against criminal charges and deciding he'd rather get forced out in disgrace than spend time behind bars.

If this keeps going the way that it's going, the Sanford PD is going to be torn apart like it's soft bread...and justly so. This is messed up, and a bunch of people should have their jobs...and asses...on the line.

On a dark note...I find myself wondering, when someone talks about "not interfering in the local law enforcement" (either by the state or federal levels) how often it's blind suspicion of large institutions and how often there's a conscious recognition of how local politics and economic conditions colors local justice.

Considering the shitload of things that have no doubt been requested and denied under the blanket of "impending trial," not to mention the "leaks" that have been seen as bolstering Zimmerman's case, leaves me unwilling to believe that this was the SPD having a moment of conscience.

House Republicans once again prove their absolute commitment to individual privacy rights.

Oh wait.

Employee Social Password Privacy Measure Fails in the House

An amendment that would have prevented employers from demanding your social media passwords was defeated by House Republicans on Wednesday.

The measure, which was attached to a larger FCC bill, was introduced by Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.) and defeated on a vote of 236-185.

“What this amendment does is it says that you cannot demand, as a condition of employment, that somebody reveal a confidential password to their Facebook, to their Flickr, to their Twitter, whatever their account may be,” Perlmutter said during a floor debate before the vote.

The password amendment met resistance from House Republicans, who didn’t consider the amendment necessary despite Perlmutter’s insistence that the amendment “would not change the overall impact or intent of the FCC Reform Act.”

26 blueraven  Thu, Mar 29, 2012 12:52:56pm

If you watch the video, you can see the bald officer also has a shadow on the back of his head when he is in the relative same position as he leans over slightly and places his jacket in the trunk of the squad car.

Maybe someone should ask the DC if he got whacked in the head too.

27 lawhawk  Thu, Mar 29, 2012 12:53:04pm

The Sanford PD is probably operating in CYA mode at this point, and the leaks began with the investigator saying that they wanted charges filed, but were overruled from on high (who it was that made the determination not to file was not within the Department). These videos further corroborate the investigator's statements that Zimmerman's statements were inconsistent and otherwise didn't match what was found by police at the scene.

So, if it wasn't the PD that made a mess of this, it leaves the FL state attorneys who are responsible for prosecuting criminal cases.

And that raises all kinds of other issues regarding familial relationships and problems within the justice system in FL besides the whole SGY mess.

28 neilk  Thu, Mar 29, 2012 12:53:09pm

Sanford police threaten to arrest reporters for asking questions

Sanford Police on Wednesday threatened to arrest members of the media who approach or ask questions of city employees during non-working hours.
Some city employees have been "followed or approached at their home or in settings outside of working hours," according to the statement, released late Wednesday.
The city further asked that reporters not approach, call or email city employees at home.
"Law enforcement officials will not hesitate to make an arrest for stalking*," the press release stated.

Not saying it's impossible, just saying it's very unlikely. They've been making every effort they can to dodge releasing things you've expect be made readily available, such as a coroner's report that would put to rest questions of whether Trayvon was the aggressor. If this release was by the SPD, then there's a reason behind it, and none of the plausible ones are particularly pleasant.

Time stamp on the video is 35 minutes after the shooting. Consider that in making a determination of what took place before being taken to the station. Cops are en-route before the shooting; arrive at scene; make a quick field assessment; gather evidence; call EMT; EMTs arrive and "clean up" Zimmerman; cops place Zimmerman in patrol car; return to police station. All in 35 minutes.

41 EdDantes  Thu, Mar 29, 2012 1:01:17pm

Mr. Zimmerman does not have police powers. Every security guard knows that their job is to "observe and report." One does not pursue a a suspicious person (other than to observe their direction of travel) even less to confront them. Good security guards observe, report and, if necessary, run!

I'm reluctant to make this point, but in their own hateful way, the Brietbart people have identified an genuine inconsistency with Liberals and race.

There's an umbrella term of "people of color" that's used to refer to "non-White" people. And this is broadly set to include Latinos, though not all Latinos will agree. An interesting commentary I saw on this was from Herman Badillo who said that Puerto Ricans are in a position to chose their racial categorization, and "white" would help them more. See his book "One Nation, One Standard"

And there is some Left-Wing ridiculousness about this. There was a call to African Americans to encourage Rainbow Grocery, a local food co-op, to stop selling Israeli food. Why? Because, according to them, Palestinians are fellow people-of-color! Nevermind the majority of Israelis are of immediate mid-eastern ancestry. (My paternal grandparents were born in Gaza city, kicked out in 1929. If we were just a different religion, we'd be "people of color!") And never mind the large number of non-Jewish African refugees living in Israel. And never mind the Ethiopian Jews. To many liberals, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is all about race.

I think some of the right-wingers pointing out left-wing inconsistency have a small point.

However, their larger point is one of hate--that Martin had it coming, that Stand Your Ground is a good idea, so I won't stick my neck out for the Brietbart crowd.

Citation for the bolded component?

Generally I see "Palestinian" used as an ethnic designation, not a race. The line between the two constructs...which are both pretty arbitrary...is hard to define, but the former tends to be a cultural complex, while the latter is viewed (inaccurately) as a hereditary biological trait. They can overlap, and often do.

Making things even more complicated is that there are terms out there, like "African American" that are at once describe ethnicity and race, but also exist as a linguistic expedient for label that can be applied to census rolls and other legal documents.

And generally I see liberals trying to make liasons between subaltern groups--those that have at some time been under the toe of another group--and Palestinians.

Not quite the same thing.

Considering this video pretty much puts the entire police report we've seen so far into question, if not outright shreds it, then it begins to look more and more like the fix was in from the word "Go." You got a falsified report, tainted evidence, tampering with witnesses, and lord knows what's lurking in the items not yet released like the coroner's report.

I'm not sure this is about SYG anymore, it looks more like rampant corruption going on within the Sanford PD and possibly the state attorney's office.

Melbourne beach is nearly 70 miles south of Sanford.

The sheriff's office says Stewart has sent threatening emails previously, including threats to Penn State University assistant football coach Mike McQueary.

I mentioned this a few days ago -- a teenager was shot by police in Pasadena.

Turns out that the guy who reported being robbed at gunpoint totally made up the existence of the gun(s) -- the guys who (supposedly) nabbed his backpack from his car were unarmed.

Police received a 9-1-1 call from Carrillo late Saturday in which he described being robbed by two men. Carrillo, who said he was parked beside a taco truck, told the dispatcher he was following the two men; he said one fled west on Orange Grove Boulevard while the other, who Carrillo said had a gun, ran north on Raymond Avenue.

Carrillo later changed his story and told the dispatcher that both men were armed. Sanchez said that misstatement may have cost McDade his life.

Sanchez said a videotape shot near the taco truck shows the 17-year-old reaching into Carrillo's car and allegedly grabbing both a backpack and a laptop computer. Sanchez said McDade acted as a "lookout" during the alleged burglary.

Sanchez declined to release the videotape.

It's unclear which officer shot first. Harper, the McDade family attorney, said Griffin fired a shot at McDade from the police car. Newlen pursued McDade on foot and also fired, Harper said.

She said the officers fired as many as eight shots.

The officers told investigators that McDade reached toward his waistband, leading them to believe he was reaching for a weapon.

After McDade was shot, police officers drove Carrillo by the location where they had the 17-year-old alleged accomplice detained. Carrillo identified him, Sanchez said.

Carrillo was never taken to the scene where McDade lay dead, Sanchez said.

Police are now certain that neither McDade nor his suspected accomplice was armed, Sanchez said.

Oscar Carrillo, the 911 caller who said Kendrec McDade waved a gun in his face, has been arrested for manslaughter.

What a piece of racist shit.

The hacker, who goes by the name Klanklannon, posted what he said were Martin's private Facebook messages to the politics section (NSFW) of the anarchic message board 4chan—called "/pol/"—Tuesday afternoon at around noon. The messages were posted on four slides, strategically arranged to back up the insane racist argument that Trayvon was a Scary Black Teenager and so somehow deserved to be killed by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman that night.

[...]

On 4chan, Klanklannon made clear their intention to smear Trayvon. Klanklannon introduces the post with, "Today /pol/, tomorrow CNN." One 4chan user told us Klanklannon had been attempting to break into Martin's accounts for days, posting periodic updates to the board.

"Where did all the liberals go?," Klanklannon taunted after posting his slides. "Did they run off because they can't handle the facts?"

Anyone who's been to the /pol/ imageboard knows that the place is an absolute cesspool of white supremacists and trolls who feed their insanity.
Example: They've posted the linked Gawker story, and are wearing it as a badge of honor.

It's got to be frustrating as a policeman to watch what your colleagues can get away with, yet be constrained from speaking against them by the "keep it in-house" culture.

Or to have no one to speak to who will listen. Would-be whistleblowers don't necessarily have access, or get taken seriously.

They've been looking for "facts" that they can incorporate into their version of how things "really went down." I've been treated to various renditions of the same scenario, namely that Trayvon's a gang member who was casing houses when Zimmerman spotted him. When Zimmerman confronted him, Trayvon decided that beating up a "white guy" would earn him serious cred and decided to attack (though sometimes this gets exchanged with GZ telling TM that the cops are coming, causing TM to panic and lash out).

It's basically the continuing effort to turn Trayvon from innocent teen walking back from the convenience store into a gang thug who Zimmerman was doing everybody a favor by shooting.

re: #42 ReamWorks

Both right and left, (along with the center, because this is America) have weirdnesses about race. I could write a book (and have considered it), on the way race is used in the I/P conflict, and boy, you said a mouthful there.

And frankly, if Zimmerman were, say, being appointed by Obama to run a White House program, or something nice, I think that we would be seeing some positions reversed on how white he is. And his family stated that he was Latino, so I am happy to assume that's how he wishes to identify, and in this matter, I won't examine his actions or object.

But that's a really, really marginal matter to this case. The race that's frankly important to the wingnuts about this one, and was important in how it went down, is Trayvon's.

People acting like psychotic racists over the murder of a teenager: high priority.

America has its collective and entire head up its butt about race: ongoing priority, but if you fume about it constantly you'll get ulcers.

The video apparently cobbles together the intake process - from arrival at the station (multiple views) to going down several corridors (again several views of the same transit).

Many of the views are seeing a hallway (or garage) from both the inbound and outbound views

Anyone who has had a broken nose would likely attest to the fact that there's usually quite a bit of blood - and some of it would make it onto their clothes. None appears to have done so - see around 4:10 of the video above. Not conclusive, but definitely interesting.

There's nothing visible on his clothing that matches the version of events given in the police report. No blood stains, no grass stains, nothing. I saw it suggested elsewhere that blood from a head wound might have been washed by the rain onto the back of his shirt, but that wouldn't explain the lack of blood on the front of his shirt. Hell, he doesn't even look particularly wet.

That group...and anyone that tries to frame Israel/Palestine as simply "racist" is dumb or cynically appropriating the language of racial struggle.

It's a kind of disrespect for the gravity of the situation to just slap a label on it and not look at what's happening in depth.

This is true, however, framing I/P as a conflict between white colonialist invaders and the indigenous brown people of the region is, in fact, a very, very, common tactic among anti-Israel groups, and it's common because it is very effective. People don't like white colonialist invaders very much, and because it is a familiar narrative, it is easy to impose over the not-very-well-known-or-understood history of the Middle East.

I think that's part of the problem. I'm sure local officials and police are getting plenty of death threats. Having strangers hanging around their houses and knocking on their doors must be pretty frightening for them and their families.

Having to explain why they did or didn't do what they did must be even more frightening.

OT: For someone who keeps claiming the GOP primary is over, Romney sure seems to keep playing to the fringes of the base.

"I was shocked to find out that Rick Santorum repeatedly supported big labor and joined with liberal Democrats in voting against right-to-work legislation during his time in Washington."

Tying yourself to a hard-right politician in the middle of a recall: perhaps not the best way to put a left-leaning state in play in November.

You do not have to cite sources for facts that are not the result of unique individual research. Facts that are readily available from numerous sources and generally known to the public are considered "common knowledge," and are not protected by copyright laws. You can use these facts liberally in your paper without citing authors.

The argument we could get into here is about who's a 'liberal' and who's not. Pointless argument.

But this is the issue:

I'm not sure what they claimed prior to the naming a special investigator whose job it was to impanel a grand jury, but now they're using that as an excuse to claim that the law bars them from releasing anything that might prejudice that grand jury's decision or a jury's decision if Zimmerman should be charged.

Today at a “policy summit” hosted by the National Journal, managing editor Kristin Roberts asked the GOP’s budget guy Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) why the Republicans went “against the advice of the generals.” Ryan’s response? They were lying:

ROBERTS: Why did the committee choose to go against the advice of the generals?

RYAN: We don’t think the generals are giving us their true advice. We don’t think the generals believe that their budget is really the right budget. I believe that the president’s budget by virtue of the fact that when he released his budget number of about $500 billion, the number was announced at the same time they announced the beginning of their strategy review of the Pentagon’s budget. So what we get from the Pentagon is more of a budget driven strategy, not a strategy driven budget.

For a guy that had just been in an epic fight to the death 35 minutes earlier, including getting his nose broken and his head slammed into the concrete and everything, George Zimmerman looks very healthy.

It's obvious now. George Zimmerman is Wolverine. That's the only explanation that makes any damn sense.

Perhaps that's why we haven't seen the coroner's report, because it would prove that what killed Trayvon was not a bullet, but an adamantium claw.

The murder occurred in a localized time/space distortion, which can can only mean that Obama's TARDIS is involved somehow.

Aha, so THAT'S why Obama deserves all of the blame for TARP!

Ha! This is awesome:

A clinic’s landlord turns the tables on anti-abortion protesters

But his harassers crossed the line last fall, when a big group showed up at his daughter’s middle school on the first day of classes and again at back-to-school night. They had signs with his name and contact information as well as those awful images of the fetuses.

“What parent wants to have that conversation with an 11-year-old on the first day of school?” he fumed.

Soon after that, the harassing calls from protesters started coming to his home. By the dozens, at all hours. Friends asked him how they could help. He began to take the names and phone numbers down of anyone who contacted him with an unwanted call. And he gave those lists to his friends and asked them to call these folks back.

“In a very calm, very respectful voice, they said that the Stave family thanks you for your prayers,” he said. “They cannot terminate the lease, and they do not want to. They support women’s rights.”

This started with a dozen or so friends, then grew. Soon, there were more than a thousand volunteers dialing.

If they could find the information, Stave’s callers would even ask the family how their children were doing, and mention their names and the name of their school. “And then we’d tell them that we bless their home on such and such street,” giving them their address.

In some cases, the family of a protester who called Stave’s home could get up to 5,000 calls in return.

Harsh? Nope.

“We gave them back what they gave us,” he said. Do onto others, and so forth.

The supporters came so fast and in such big numbers, Stave founded a group, Voice for Choice . And now there are about 3,000 volunteers ready to make calm, reasoned calls to the homes of people who bombard doctors, landlords and families with their unsolicited protests at homes or schools across the country.

Stave is pretty rakish about explaining the tactic, clearly enjoying turning the tables after decades of not fighting back.

“What? They don’t want unsolicited calls to their homes?” he asked.

Paul Ryan: The Generals Are Lying About Their Support For Obama’s Pentagon Budget

WTF?

"Us here in our lofty perches here at Capital Hill, most of whom have never served in the military and have avoided such service through money and privilege, know more about what boondoggle projects the Pentagon needs than the people who actually have to deal with it!"

Paul Ryan: know-it-all jerk.

I'd just like to add to this post; I'm a student at Towson right now, and some of the graffiti was considerably more inflammatory than what's included in the articles. It was pretty surprising to see it, but the campus community did overwhelmingly reject it at least.

251 efuseakay  Thu, Mar 29, 2012 6:46:23pm

I'm trying to figure out in what twisted world the words "We don't need you to be doing that" does not = "Don't do that,"... That's another talking point coming from the wingers.

The dispatcher told Zimmerman to stop following Martin. Or was I just hearing things? Oh well.

the knees of those blue jeans are pretty clean for someone who has been fighting in wet grass, also didn't the funeral parlor guy say he could only find one wound mark on the body and it was in the chest, sounds like Trayvon may have been shot in the back
