‘Burn a Koran Day’ Pastor Supports George Zimmerman

Moronic publicity-hungry Quran-burning pastor Terry Jones is coming out in support of George Zimmerman.

The Gainesville pastor who set off riots in the Middle East by burning the Quran is turning out to support George Zimmerman today at a University of Florida protest of Trayvon Martin’s shooting death, according to Rev. Terry Jones’ Dove World Outreach Center.

Jones and 20 members of his church plan to attend a march scheduled to begin about 5 p.m. at the UF campus and continue along University Avenue to Gainesville City Hall, said Fran Ingram, a church spokeswoman.

He will likely face oppostion because the march is in support of Trayvon and will include people who want Zimmerman arrested. “He will be there to advocate for George Zimmerman’s Constitutional rights,” Ingram said.

Here’s a video this creep posted to YouTube in March 2010, just for some context and a possible clue about his motivations. Warning: this is NOT SAFE FOR WORK. (Or any other time, for that matter.)

Zimmerman's constitutional rights have not been even slighly infringed upon in any way I'm aware of. He even seems to have been given a few extra rights, such as the right to walk away from a shooting with no apparent rationale.

There's a minuscule chance that some of these idiots are are actually mystified at the complexities of American history, and why some people can make a joke about oppression to try to ease its pain while other people who never had the experience should tread lightly, but I think they know the truth quite well and are just nasty blowhards.

I did have someone in my class on race and gender in psychotherapy comment in response to reading the chapter about African American families that she had been very interested in the sections on slavery and segregation, and 'now she understood why black people always seem to think that you owe them something'.

This is a woman born and raised in the US. I was utterly fascinated, on a number of levels.

If we really, truly had overcome race, we could start over. There's a really good article today by Tyler Perry on how he is still profiled.

There it is. We are still profiling. Blacks have watched wave after wave of immigrants come over, start at the bottom, and move up, all while they remain jammed at the bottom.

'Zionist media in US diverting attention from Iran war'

The Zionist-dominated media in the United States is trying to exploit the racially-charged case of Trayvon Martin’s murder in order to divert attention from U.S. and Israel’s war preparations against Iran.

In his interview with Press TV’s U.S. Desk on Monday, political commentator in San Antonio from Texas, Mark Dankof, said: “Basically the Trayvon Martin case is getting the attention that it’s getting right now in the United States for 2 reasons.

“One the Zionist media in the United States must divert public attention away from what Israel and the United States are doing in preparing a war with Iran”, Dankof said.

“The second thing is that there was the brutal killing in her home of an Islamic, Iraqi woman in El-Cajon, California.” Dankof added that “the perpetrator or perpetrators of that act had been influenced by some of the Zionist and Neo-Conservative symposiums on Islam that had been held in the El-Cajon, California area recently.”

I don't know why this makes me sadder. The Skittles weren't even for himself.

... These recent problems, all nonviolent, hardly reflected the essence of Trayvon Martin, his family and friends say. He was kindhearted, even-tempered and very thoughtful. That night, for example, while his father and Ms. Green were out having dinner in Orlando, Trayvon asked Chad, Ms. Green’s son, if he wanted anything from the store.

Skittles, the younger boy said.

Checking out about what the wingnuts are writing on these days... and going over to Townhall what strikes me from the selection of articles they put up that there is a subtle but strong flow of nihilism that is part of the churn ingredients.

This comes out especially wrt topics like energy. The strong need to cut off one's nose to spite one's face is flowing strongly over there, and elsewhere in the rabidly self-declaring "conservative" fraction of the American society.

Police captured the suspected gunman inside an Alameda grocery store five miles away from the shooting site at Oikos University after he allegedly walked to the customer service counter and told employees, "I just shot some people."

A law-enforcement source close to the investigation confirmed to The Chronicle that the suspect is 43-year-old One Goh of Oakland.

The suspect used a .45-caliber handgun, spraying a classroom with gunfire and firing additional shots as he ran out, said the source, who did not wish to be identified because the investigation is ongoing.

Goh had been a nursing student at Oikos University, located at 7850 Edgewater Road in East Oakland, and there was some kind of dispute that may have resulted in him getting kicked out of at least one class, the source said.

Tradition!
Human ancestors may have used fire a million years ago

"The analysis pushes the timing for the human use of fire back by 300,000 years, suggesting that human ancestors as early as Homo erectus may have begun using fire as part of their way of life," said researcher Michael Chazan, a paleolithic archaeologist at the University of Toronto and director of the university's archaeology center.

Georgia State Rep Votes Against Radical Anti-Abortion Measure, Citing Daughter’s Experiences

In an interview with the Savannah Morning News, Stephens recalled his daughter Ashlin’s pregnancy just a few years before, when her child was diagnosed with trisomy, a devastating genetic defect, and how this bill would have affected his family’s decision:

“At five months, they told her part of her baby’s brain was outside the skull and the heart was inverted,” he said. “They said it would take only one or two breaths. She would have watched it die.” After huddling with her family, she opted for an abortion.

When the bill initially came to a vote in the House, there was no opportunity to amend it to provide exceptions for such situations. Stephens said he was so upset he felt sick and walked off the floor during the roll call.

“For something this cruel to happen to my daughter, or anyone’s daughter,” he said, “is just plain inhumane. I consider myself pro-life, but this provision was a distortion of pro-life values.”

In response, the Peach Tea Party blasted those Republicans, claiming they “displayed a willingness to depart from the conservative principles that form the bedrock of the Georgia Republican Party platform.” A blog on the group’s website referred to those Republicans as “RINOs,” or Republicans in Name Only.

Santorum Claims California Universities Don’t Teach American History (Updated)

Santorum continued his broadside against higher education (and the facts) today in Wisconsin, claiming that “seven or eight” of the ten schools in the University of California system “don’t even teach an American history course”:

SANTORUM: I was just reading something last night from the state of California. And that the California universities – I think it’s seven or eight of the California system of universities don’t even teach an American history course. It’s not even available to be taught.

In fact, of the 10 UC system schools, just one (San Francisco) doesn’t offer American history courses. But that’s because it doesn’t offer any humanities courses at all — it’s a medical school.

Meanwhile, Berkeley, Irvine, Davis, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz all offer numerous American history courses. All require students to take U.S. history before they can graduate.

And Fox LOVED to play it, didn't they?

Recalling that Alveda King is anti-abortion, I'm having problems parsing her statement:

King, a conservative and pro-life activist, took issue with the tone of Sharpton’s rally. “I’m asking that we remember that Trayvon Martin’s family is grieving right now. And in the midst of their grieving, they don’t need a lot of anger and fear surrounding that. Certainly, Trayvon Martin – a young man cut down in his prime – I would say because of my ministry ‘aborted late.’ A late abortion.”

“America’s youth are now an endangered species,” said King. “And so we must answer this non-violently. Not with rage and not with anger. Not by playing the race card.”

“If my uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King were here today, or my dad, Dr. A.D. King, they would ask us to seek justice but to temper that with mercy,” said King. “I’m asking Rev. [Jesse] Jackson, Rev. Sharpton to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. To remember non-violence.”

Seriously...I can't find how the "late abortion' part makes sense.

Edit: that she was cynically inserting abortion into this tragedy was so far from my mind it didn't occur to me that was what she was doing. Ugh.

A thought on the Cali shooting.

If he had been a rightwinger, the rightwing would be explaining how that isn't important (and lefties would be pointing it out). If he were a lefty, lefties would be explaining why that isn't important (and the right would be pointing it out). If he were black white supremacists would be talking about how he's an example of black on white violence. If he were white, some folks on the left would be pointing out how these mass shooters are almost never, ever, black. In all those cases, people in the group he might be aligned with would vociferously doubt any significance to his racial or ideological identity.

But having lived in Korea and worked closely with many Koreans over about 15 years, I'm reasonably sure that if it's confirmed that he's Korean, while no one from other groups will be jumping up and down to talk about the significance of his national or racial identity (well, outside of maybe some white supremacists), most Koreans will be in absolute horror about his Korean identity.

And why does the ghost of Obi Wan Kenobi need to sit down when he's talking to Luke?

Apparently so. All that use of The Force must cause bunions...

Ann Romney says they need to "unzip Mitt Romney" to show that he's "not stiff." Wait. What?

Can these people say anything that isn't embarrassing? I'm glad they found each other and all, but wow.

here is his theory:

the n-word is an offensive word no matter who uses it.

sure.

but you miss the point if you leave it at that. the n-word is an offensive word if used by anyone -- offensive like the f-word, it is an unacceptable word if used by a white person.

is that a double standard? why YES, yes it is. deal with it. we have plenty of double standards in this world, because things are different if you are black or white, man or woman, and child or adult.

get the hell over it.

and, by the way, don't think no one noticed you saying "black is black, white is white -- what relationship can the darkness have with light?" shall i return that dog whistle you putz?

i'm surprised you didn't complete your sentence by using the word niggardly with a smirk on your face "oh, it just means stingy -- swear that's how i meant it -- and those damn n-words are preventing me from using the english language".

welcome to racism -- you are the face of it.

Georgia State Rep Votes Against Radical Anti-Abortion Measure, Citing Daughter’s Experiences

No one thinks they'll have an abortion until they need one. That's why these bills show such incredible arrogance.

This report by the right-wing "National Association of Scholars" is the likely source for Santorum's lies about the University of California not teaching American History.

And a simple fact-check was too hard for Team Santorum, I guess?

UCLA offers a History major which itself requires courses in US History. And if UCLA offers it, it's a good bet that the other schools in the UC system offer something similar.

Exactly.

My very Catholic cousin and his wife had a situation very similar to that Georgia rep's daughter. They ultimately chose abortion for that child, and now have two lovely children that are happy and healthy.

Late to this: I agree with you; there are standards that apply differently to different people because that is how social conventions have evolved, and how they are even if we could imagine a world where they were different.

It is however a pity that ignorance of language causes words to be disallowed just because they have a certain similarity to another with a completely different meaning and origin, like niggardly.

I'm really curious as to the motive here. That article says the student may have been disgruntled about something but nothing more. I'm worried the fact it was a Christian school will send the wingnuts into a frenzy.

I'm certain some of them already believe that Obama himself ordered the attack.

They're already pulling themselves apart like the three-headed bird in Baron Munchausen. It's a Christian school, so, an attack on Christians, but it's also in Oakland, lair of the liberals, so they had it coming, and also, immigrants.

collateral damage occurs every day.

You don't name your kid Adolf -- you don't wear THAT mustache.

it's a small price considering the amount of pain that has been produced with the n-word.

Charles Johnson,

That guy, the one that appeared in the video with the green background actually makes one or valid points. Racism is bad, no matter color the person who is a racist maybe, or what group he thinks is inherently superior. Through I will admit that Terry Jones looked like an Idiot in that video. But given what was later said in the video, I wonder if it was on purposes, at least in this instance.
