Daily Caller Writer Casts Off Chains of White Guilt, Embraces Inner Racist

Bicycle theft leads to race-based epiphany
WTF • Views: 30,366

A terrible thing happened recently to Daily Caller writer Mark Judge: someone stole his bicycle. The bike was a source of great joy and inspiration for Mark, so you can imagine how totally devastated he must have been.

But as many negative experiences do, this terrible theft had its bright side: it freed Mark from the chains of white guilt and allowed him to embrace his inner racist.

Even though he doesn’t know who actually stole his bike.

The end of my white guilt.

I bought a bike, and it quickly became a source of joy — and efficiency. D.C. is a car-heavy city, and the bike made getting around it a breeze. I could park on Capitol Hill, coast down Independence Avenue and take in the museums and cherry blossoms in a couple hours. The bike was a sign of strength, of determination. Of recovery. When a friend of mine, a social worker, expressed surprise that the entire time of my treatment I had never gone on disability, I couldn’t believe she would even think that I would do such a thing. One magical early spring night I rode through about half the city, going to rock clubs, coffee shops and museums, ending up on the lit hilltop at Georgetown University. Disability? Wrong answer.

But when I came back to my car after the stations, my bike, which had been locked to a bike rack on my car, was gone. I called the cops and filed a report. Then I walked around Brookland, the neighborhood around the Shrine, for an hour to see if I could spot it. I didn’t, but I did talk to some people who said there were a lot of kids around that day because the schools are out.

I went to college at Catholic University, which is right next to the National Shrine, and I know Brookland pretty well. It’s home to several Catholic religious orders (Brookland was once known as “Little Rome”). I could be pretty certain that on Good Friday a member of the Little Sisters of the Poor, which is across the street from where I was parked, had not nicked my bike. Neither had the monks at the Dominican House of Studies on the corner. The students at Catholic University were on Easter break. That left the neighborhoods around the university. Since the time I was an undergrad at Catholic University in the 1980s, most of the crime that has occurred on campus has come from those neighborhoods, which are predominately black. As sure as it took the D.C. cops forever to get to the parking lot to file a report, I knew that the odds were very high that a black person had taken my bike — maybe one of the kids that had been described.

This inexorable line of reasoning caused an epiphany for Mark Judge:

In that moment, I had a change of consciousness. Why was I assuming that the kid who stole my bike was acting out of some terrible pain, as if he had been directly under the lash of Bull Connor? What if he has a car, a nice apartment, a hot girlfriend and good health?

What if he is just a selfish asshole?

I think you mean, “selfish black asshole,” don’t you, Mark?

Yikes. What can you even say when an article like this shows up at a popular mainstream conservative website?

Supposing that his presumption is correct, I am unclear as to why he felt that this deserved an article. Many crimes in areas that are predominantly-$RACE are committed by members of $RACE.

Why, it's almost as if there is some other factor afoot. I just can't quite put my finger on it...

5 wrenchwench  Mon, Apr 9, 2012 3:00:01pm

I'm going to guess that he had the bike locked to the rack, but the rack was not locked to his car. Yes, I'm guessing he's an idiot. And I have a lot more evidence for my guess than he does for his.

I'm gonna leave my bike in a white part of town and then when it gets stolen, I'm gonna proudly proclaim my justified right to hate white people!

19 Lord Baron Viscount Duke Earl Count Planckton  Mon, Apr 9, 2012 3:14:08pm

Procedure for racial liberation:

1. Set up a strawman that exists only in your mind:

I had been carefully educated by liberal parents that we are all, black and white, the same. My favorite movie growing up was “In the Heat of the Night.” Yet that often meant not treating everyone the same. It meant treating blacks with a mixture of patronizing condescension and obsequious genuflecting to their Absolute Moral Authority gained from centuries of suffering. It meant not treating everyone the same.

2. Proceed to destroy the said strawman.

3. FREEDOM!

25 Achilles Tang  Mon, Apr 9, 2012 3:17:12pm

I had a GPS stolen from my truck parked in front of my house last year. I hadn't locked it. It's a predominantly white neighborhood so my guess is that the odds are it was a white burglar (less obvious that way, at 2am).

I have a vacant rental property in a predominantly black neighborhood. It was broken into and the appliances stolen during the holidays. My guess is that the odds are it was a black burglar (not a good area for white burglars to get caught).

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get paid by a major publication/blog for writing about this profundity.//

So, I mentioned this elsewhere, but even discounting the fact that he has no idea what race of person stole his bike, and even discounting the fact that (as I can attest personally) peoples' bikes get stolen off of college campuses set in predominantly white neighborhoods also, I just want to home in on the faulty generalization:

The odds are pretty good that Mark Judge is white, and therefore, I'm completely justified in presuming that all white people are bigoted, nitwitted, wastes of oxygen, right? Thanks a lot, Mark Judge! You're now personally responsible for turning me into a militant black nationalist!

Also, too, I love how he arbitrarily discounts anyone associated with the surrounding businesses, because religious people never lie, steal, or cheat on their spouses, ever.

Great article in the Washington Post.

Finally a president who is willing to bite back at conservatives.

They have long experience with attacking the evils of the left and the abuses of activist judges. They love to assail “tax-and-spend liberals” without ever discussing who should be taxed or what government money is actually spent on. They expect their progressive opponents to be wimpy and apologetic.

So imagine the shock when President Obama decided last week to speak plainly about what a Supreme Court decision throwing out the health-care law would mean, and then landed straight shots against the Mitt Romney-supported Paul Ryan budget as “a Trojan horse,” “an attempt to impose a radical vision on our country,” and “thinly veiled social Darwinism.”

Obama specifically listed the programs the Ryan-Romney budget would cut back, including student loans, medical and scientific research grants, Head Start, feeding programs for the poor, and possibly even the weather service.

Romney pronounced himself appalled, accusing Obama of having “railed against arguments no one is making” and “criticized policies no one is proposing.” Yet Romney could neither defend the cuts nor deny the president’s list of particulars, based as they were on reasonable assumptions. When it came to the Ryan budget, Romney wanted to fuzz things up. But, as Obama likes to point out, math is math.

Has this guy ever been to college? Colleges are some of the most notorious bike-theft magnets in the world. My freshman year, we all went through the ritual of having a serial number put onto the bottom of the frame, so that it would be slightly easier to get a bike back after it had been stolen and fenced.

Earlier story from NBC about the zimmermandefense.com site, which they said was not up yet.

A website to raise money for Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman will be hitting the Internet soon, as his family looks to fund his legal defense and cover their living expenses, his attorneys said.

The website "[Link: zimmermandefense.com...] wasn't live Friday morning and no launch time was specified.

Zimmerman's family has setup a website for anyone who would like help with George and his family with their living expenses and for his defense," attorneys Hal Uhrig and Craig Sonner said in a statement Thursday obtained by NBC News.

The devil has a special place reserved for this asshole who hacked a road information sign.

Electronic Road Sign Hacked With Racist Trayvon Martin Message

The killing of black Florida teenager Trayvon Martin has sparked a weird kind of racial spasm that's resulted in terrible articles, Spike Lee scaring old people, and made Facebook almost unvisitable for the past week. Now Metro Detroit's getting in on the bile after someone in Dearborn — the suburb of Detroit home to Ford Motor Company — reprogrammed an electronic construction sign to proclaim "Trayvon A N****R", although probably without the asterisks.

Remember when we told you not to hack electronic roadsigns — and then winked, nodded, showed you how, and then posted your hilarious hacks?

This isn't what we meant. This just sucks.

As a cyclist, I wouldn't have locked up my bike up like this guy did. You bring it inside at night, or use a heavy duty lock and cable(s). My locks have always been an expensive investment, and even they make them for specific areas. However, even the mid-range ones take about 30-45 minutes to get through; it's all about making it less desireable than the next one.

Yes, it's a hassle to bring this stuff around or carry your bike up stairs. Having your bike stolen is demoralizing, but this guy handled it the wrong way (and he might be racist, yes).

123 Charles Johnson  Mon, Apr 9, 2012 4:13:09pm

Looking at the source code for the site, it was created with Godaddy's Website Builder software. It's quite possible that Zimmerman threw this together quickly, because he knows he's about to get arrested and needs money. It's probably a very low-cost hosting plan, which would explain the crashes when a big surge of traffic hits it.

April 9 (Reuters) - From hiding, George Zimmerman has created a website to raise money for his legal defense and living expenses while he awaits a special prosecutor's decision whether to charge him in the shooting death of unarmed black Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

Remember this morning when you posted about foot-shooting GOP enabler Rep. Cleaver? His comments engendered quite a (well-deserved) storm of protest on Twitter, one of which was mine:

And look at the response I got, from a deranged, bigoted, AGW-denying tea party wackjob:

Around here, we use RINO!!1! as a joke, but these freakazoid nut sandwiches slathered in creepsauce say it seriously.

Oh I've run across that crab before. Just look at him. Whew.

“The Rush Limbaugh Show” is leaving the dominant conservative talk radio station in Philadelphia, one of the biggest radio markets in the country.

In its place on the station, WPHT, will go “The Michael Smerconish Show,” hosted by Mr. Smerconish, a native of the city.

re: #101 Killgore Trout

Just askin' questions!/

I stand by my skepticism. Originally it was just two highly partisan and biased sources were the only ones reporting the story. Their claims of confirmation that it really was his site weren't very well sourced. The site was so bad and over the top it appeared to be a bad hoax. The CNN tweet "confirming" linked to a story that didn't even mention websites. As other outlets have also reported it now looks like it might be real and I'll stand corrected if the story still holds up. Not a problem.

Because he criticized the GOP for saying Obama was waging a "war on religion", so he was asked if it was fair to call GOP efforts a "war on women"
He is a pastor and probably doesn't like engaging in such strong rhetoric.

Hehehe.

It is unclear when the change will take place in Philadelphia. The company that syndicates Mr. Limbaugh’s show, Premiere Radio Networks, declined to comment.

But Premiere has indicated that it will be moving Mr. Limbaugh to a new station in Philadelphia. Radio-Info.com reported on Monday that it might be WKDN, a Christian programming station that is expected to be turned into a news-talk station soon.

To the untrained eye, it would appear to be a step down for “The Rush Limbaugh Show.” WKDN, with a 38,000-watt signal, is a smaller station than WPHT, which has a 50,000-watt signal. But WKDN is an FM station, while WPHT is an AM station, and Premiere has shown interest in moving its talk radio shows over to FM stations lately.

Rush ain't leaving Philly, ClearChannel/Premiere wants to move Rush to a FM station that's changing from Christian to talk sometime in the near future; one reason being is that Mike Huckabee, as well as Philly native Michael Smerconish, has a national talk show now that is competing with Rush in his time slot.

Rush might still be damaged goods to many, but he's still Premiere's top property and they won't totally drop him out of a huge media market such as Philly.

re: #182 Killgore Trout

I stand by my skepticism.

Nope, that's not skepticism. That's derp. Skepticism is "well, maybe this, maybe that". "Obvious hoax" is not skepticism.

Originally it was just two highly partisan and biased sources were the only ones reporting the story.

Even though there was a brouhaha around NBC's treatment of the Zimmerman tape, when they say that they got info from the lawyer - i.e. properly sourced their info - that's as good as it gets, so dismissing this NBC News' report on the grounds of "bias" is pretty laughable.

Their claims of confirmation that it really was his site weren't very well sourced.

Lawyers are proper sources.

The site was so bad and over the top it appeared to be a bad hoax. The CNN tweet "confirming" linked to a story that didn't even mention websites. As other outlets have also reported it now looks like it might be real and I'll stand corrected if the story still holds up. Not a problem.

Now this is skepticism - albeit unreasonable one, since we've already had explicit confirmation from Reuters.

Booze would be number one that list. One needn't be drunk during the commission of a crime either since long term use can be devastating to the mind in some people. Drugs too. Most likely it's from socialization, depression, manic states, etc. Hmm. Guess it could be anything.

OT-Carl Rove's SuperPAC has $200 million to spread rumors about Barack Obama having fathered two black children.

[Link: wonkette.com...]

Rove’s MegaUltraSuperPAC, American Crossroads, is about to begin its purported $200 million dollar ad blitz to “define” the president as no friend of the American people. They are sure to be respectful, classy ads simply pointing out differences in policy preferences (and did you know he’s from Kenya, too?):

Steven J. Law, the group’s leader, said the ads would address the challenge of unseating a president who polls show is viewed favorably even though many people disapprove of his handling of the economy. Basically, Mr. Law said, “how to dislodge voters from him.”

No. You do not.

Also, I'd like to comment that just because it was spring break does not mean that none of the students are on campus at CUA. I grew up in California, went to school back East for a couple of years. My folks couldn't afford to fly me home at Thanksgiving and Easter break, so I stayed put, or (once I knew people), bummed visits and seder tables with people from the area.

I never stole anyone's bike, but I could have.

(If I had, it would assuredly have been known to be the crime of a white person. We were in rural western Massachusetts. Sheep farmers and colleges.)

Has this guy ever been to college? Colleges are some of the most notorious bike-theft magnets in the world. My freshman year, we all went through the ritual of having a serial number put onto the bottom of the frame, so that it would be slightly easier to get a bike back after it had been stolen and fenced.

This too. College kids will steal anything that's not actually bolted down.

Er, I'm a Democrat, and I quote Paine all the time. I believe that he agrees with me a hell of a lot more often than he agrees with the Tea Party. That's not proof one way or another.

What Will Dems Do This Week To Inflame Racial Tensions?

I have to learn to cache, haven't found a way yet.

I disagree with most rightwingers on almost everything - but at least usually I can understand the logic of their thinking process. The following statement from that article however - expressing a sentiment that I've heard quite a bit in the frightwing blogosphere - is a complete WTF?

On Friday, March 23, Pres. Obama proclaimed, “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.” Then, as now, nobody knows all the facts of the case – yet, Obama saw fit to publicly embrace Trayvon with this controversial comment apparently designed to strike an emotional, sympathetic chord.

How does anyone get from Obama's comment an attempt to "inflame racial tensions?

I simply cannot figure out a logical reasoning process here. How does expressing empathy - which is precisely what Obama's statement was - get turned into inflaming racial tensions.

As near as I can tell - there is nothing in that reasoning other than a hatred of Obama, and ironically, the statement is ignorant of the racially inflammatory impact of accusing Obama of inflaming racial tensions when he did no such thing.
