These Obama campaign advertisements are very powerful — because all the President has to do is quote the words of Mitt Romney and the Republican Party to make his point that the GOP agenda is deeply reactionary and anti-woman.
I can hear the screams now about Obama stooping to negative advertising, hit pieces, etc. when all his campaign is doing is showing Romney and the GOP stating their own policy positions.
The truth is proving to be quite an obstacle for the GOP. Good.
Wingnuts complain (or did until Romney cinched the nomination) that Mitt won’t sign the Personhood Pledge, and he skipped their forum. I think he was preserving his Etch-a-Sketchability.
If the GOP thinks they are going to be able to escape from this issue, they had better have a serious talk with Chairman Limbaugh. The only thing I ever hear from him besides misogynistic attacks on Hillary Clinton, the first lady or Sandra Fluke is lavish praise for the oil industry.
This is how I view the future and what the Whacko’s don’t seem to get. The future will flow where it may, being directed by forces beyond our immediate control. It’s path is determined not so much by our current action, but by actions so far in the past, it is impossible to re-direct them.
The future is millions of people younger than me and the candidates.

Well, they still think they can buy their way out of integration …
What is the actual undecided percentage in the electorate at this point? I mean are we simply going to see five months of campaign spending and a constant barrage of ads for Romney and Obama trying to convince 6-8% (if that) of the population to vote for them?

Whatever chance Mitt might have had has vanished with a. the religious right doubling down on its anti-women campaign and, b. Romney going whole hog pandering to the RRs.
Oh, well, the RR leadership will be happy. Their guy won’t get to the White House, EVER, but they will reap huge profits on DVDs, speaking fees, home-schooling supplies, health supplements and the other shoddy merchandise that is their real concern.
Happy marketing, assholes, and RIP, GOP.
The internet provides cretins a larger echo chamber than their local underside-of-a-rock, perhaps giving them further reinforcement that they are surely correct about their hate of the day. On the other hand, it encourages them to do it in the light of day, for all to see.
Give and take. I’m not sure if it’s a net gain or loss.
Rope a Dope. They took the birth control bait, led by their leader Rush.
Exactly…and not just on birth control, other women’s issues such as equal pay, PP and also immigration.
They will paint Mitt as a right wing extremist because he pandered to that group. Now he will have to embrace it or twist himself like a pretzel in order to appeal to moderates. When he does that, the TP folks will go after him big time.
Rope a Dope. They took the birth control bait, led by their leader Rush.
Which was stupid. Obama gave them a win. If they’d taken the rules as he set them up, where the birth control coverage mandate was off the table, but insurance companies could still approach women directly without involving the religious employer at all, the GOP could have gone around crowing about how they preserved religious liberty and kept the Dems from forcing the issue of birth control, or something.
Instead they let Limbaugh set the tone and the RWNJs followed him off a cliff into cuckoo land.
That won’t last. There’s no way in hell that the GOP is going to piss off Norquist and the rest of the wingnuts through the entire race. Mitt NEEDS the wingnuts to have any chance at all.
They are moderate in the same way as the Muslim Brotherhood. They have a nice facade, but behind it is radicalism.
Good to see one of us on here is gullible enough to fall for it. Or that for some reason, because of an idiotic frog issue last year, all leftists are bad.
The Republicans need to be defeated and ostracized. Start this by pushing the meme that Republicans like being violent to women.
Three days of calling Sandra Fluke a whore and a slut on the air and all the whinging about forced birth control coverage and a Catholic university like Georgetown is basically ignoring all of it to continue providing birth control.

Really think about it - all this hate & misogyny is based on their preference for a political party. And women are happily participating. Tribalism. Dangerous.
They post some of the tweets from their readers — hateful, deranged, and illiterate, just as you’d expect. And they think they’re winning.
I’m not sure they care if they’re winning or not. I suspect that they’re just waiting for a ‘Pearl Harbour moment’ when they can forget about all this democracy shit and enforce their views at gunpoint.
For the first time, children would be protected on non-family owned farms. Working with pesticides, lumber mills, animals, manure pits, storage bins, and many other jobs that children are often employed to perform would be regulated. But Sarah Palin doesn’t think America needs to protect kids.
Wow. I never knew that kids were not covered under such protections for NON-FAMILY owned farms. How are these any different from factories, etc. (besides being more dangerous)?
They’re not. Big Agriculture has gotten a lot of mileage by putting on a plaid shirt, chewing a piece of straw, and saying “We’s just hardworking farmers here.” And it’s bull. They’re big industry. The people that need protection are the actual farmers— either the small owners, or the ones doing the actual, you know, farming.

The smartest thing I ever heard Barak Obama say, and the reason I supported him from the day he announced, was in mid-2006.
“It’s insane that both parties are spending all their efforts fighting over 2 or 3 million swing voters. The future belongs to whoever can motivate the 40 million who are eligible to vote but aren’t even registered.”
This is why “community organizer” was a valid credential. McCain pulled as many votes as George W Bush did… and Obama beat him by 9-1/2 million. Booyah.
(and this is why Republican governors and state legislatures are trying to make it harder to vote.)
Wow. I never knew that kids were not covered under such protections for NON-FAMILY owned farms. How are these any different from factories, etc. (besides being more dangerous)?
Kids aren’t covered under non-family owned farms because migrant farm workers often have their kids in tow working in the fields too. Giving those kids child labor law protections is important, but of course Caribou Barbie seems to have a problem with that.

Children who are migrant workers are exposed to dangerous chemicals and pesticides, work in hellish conditions, and are also around dangerous, heavy machinery that NO OTHER INDUSTRY allows kids to handle. A 16 year old migrant worker on a farm can use a forklift but if Wal-Mart or Home Depot would try that people would flip their shit.
Also, children who work on farms as migrant workers account for 20% of all farm-related fatalities. There is no good reason to deny these kids child labor law protections unless you think that migrant farmer kids deserve to work in those conditions.

Oh, it’s nothing to do with migrant kids deserving or not. Little Johnny needs his 99c/lb apples, consequences be damned. Or more likely, consequences be not considered.

I just treated myself to fresh blackberries and cream. This is making me think of that delicious treat in a whole ‘nother way.
For those who won’t be around this evening, set your VCR’s (oh, I’ve just dated myself, right? that’s not what they are anymore…. )
Set your DVR’s for tonight’s Correspondents’ Dinner. Jimmy Kimmel is hosting, Obama has some new writers, and Mitt Romney is even lower-hanging fruit than Donald Trump.

Kinda sweet for the Obama campaign that the Republican primaries dragged on so long and forced Mitt to move so far to the extreme Right to win. At this point the campaign ads practically write themselves, no heavy lifting required.
Now that the primary is over Romney is of course trying his best to sound centrist and non-threatening to the undecided, but with all the far right positions he has staked out in the primary that is going to be exceedingly difficult for him to pull off convincingly.

This wooden trestle was 103 years old but, hey, we're fired up about business in Texas, thanks to low taxes and minimum regulation. A fire toppled a railroad bridge like it was made of dominoes outside the small town of San Saba, Texas. Members of the Lometa, Texas, volunteer fire department arrived on the scene, but they could only contain the fire and ...
LA RUANA, Mexico -- The farm state of Michoacan is burning. A drug cartel that takes its name from an ancient monastic order has set fire to lumber yards, packing plants and passenger buses in a medieval-like reign of terror. The Knights Templar cartel is extorting protection payments from cattlemen, lime growers and businesses such as butchers, prompting some communities to fight back, ...
Pope Francis rocked some religious and atheist minds today when he declared that everyone was redeemed through Jesus, including atheists. During his homily at Wednesday Mass in Rome, Francis emphasized the importance of "doing good" as a principle that unites all humanity, and a "culture of encounter" to support peace. Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Pope Francis explained how upset Jesus' ...
While remodeling his newly purchased home in Elbow Lake, Minn., David Gonzalez noticed something unusual amid the old newspapers that had been used as wall insulation. It was a copy of Action Comics No. 1 from 1938, the very first comic to feature the granddaddy of all superheroes, Superman. StarTribune.com spoke with Gonzalez about his amazing find as well as a subsequent family ...

In an extraordinary admission, Attorney General Eric Holder has told Congress that U.S. drone strikes since 2009 have killed four Americans -- three of whom were "not specifically targeted." For all the effort that the Obama administration has gone to in asserting that its drones only kill the people that the administration intends to kill, Holder wrote in a letter today to Sen. ...
Michele Bachmann was the muse for a new romance novel called Fires of Siberia, to be published June 1, about a fiery presidential candidate who tries to bone up on her foreign policy credentials only to get stuck in the wilderness with a sexy stranger. "Inspired by the life of Tea Party leader and Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Fires of Siberia is an ...
It's from last week; I should've paged it then. After the previous essay on Benghazi, I got a bunch of email. The gist of which is best summed up as: Okay, Benghazi, fine, whatever. Fine. But what about the IRS thing? Huh, what about that? How are you going to defend your boy Obozo on that, huh? Huh? It's Obumer's Watergate, Man, he's going ...
On Wednesday, Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) held an anti-abortion press conference for the bill he intends to reintroduce that restricts women's abortion rights nationwide. A direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, Franks' bill bans abortions after 20 weeks, before a fetus even reaches the point of viability. Just this week, an appeals court stuck down a 20-week abortion ban enacted by Franks' home ...
. . . and that is why he is so sure of the 'miracle of the emaculate conception'". The Atlantic's Hugo Schwyzer has a theory: that masturbation, as the most common sex act, is the heart of modernity's war between Christianity and secularism. Many progressives were bewildered by Antonin Scalia's blistering 2003 dissent in Lawrence v Texas, in which he warned that state laws ...
Only the best of leaders dare to reduce the powers of their office or government. I applaud the effort in the strongest terms. Please support these changes with your own Congressman or Senator. Pennsylvania Gov. CORBETT: No, we do not have any staff members in there. If you can ...

Duke University engineers have developed a novel method for producing clean hydrogen, which could prove essential to weaning society off of fossil fuels and their environmental implications. While hydrogen is ubiquitous in the environment, producing and collecting molecular hydrogen for transportation and industrial uses is expensive and complicated. Just as importantly, a byproduct of most current methods of producing hydrogen is carbon monoxide, ...

It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...
Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...
