Sacramento County elections officials have turned over what they say are several suspicious voter registration cards that were collected by a for-profit company hired by local and state Republicans to state election fraud investigators.

Pretty pictures from Cassini's recent Dione flyby
Cassini had a close encounter with Saturn's geyser moon Enceladus two days ago, and followed the fun with an unusually close pass by Dione, the fourth largest moon of Saturn (after Titan, Rhea, and Iapetus). There was some nice Enceladus imaging, but the real eye candy this time came from the Dione encounter, which was reasonably close, at an altitude of about 8,000 kilometers.

The Rominee spout silliness:
Mitt Romney dismisses improved jobs figures
Mitt Romney, who has long staked his presidential bid on his business experience, painted a rosy picture of his definition of a successful economy on Friday, arguing that the unemployment rate should be cheered only if it is below 4%, and arguing that half a million new jobs should be created every month in a true economic recovery.
Um, no, just no.
That is a Bachmann-esque fantasy (maybe he got it from her?) 4% is just not how our society works today. Far too much mobility.
And, to claim that a change in the unemployment rate ought not be cheered unless it gets below 4% is simply offensive. If unemployment fell from 8% to 6% between now and the election (though I doubt it will) we ought not be happy?

Mitt Romney welcomes two new grandchildren
GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife Ann have two new grandkids, after their oldest son Tagg announced on Twitter Friday that he and his wife had twin sons through a surrogate.
"Happy 2 announce birth of twin boys David Mitt and William Ryder. Big thanks to our surrogate. Life is a miracle," Tagg tweeted Friday afternoon, along with a picture of him cradling one of the newborns.
Tagg, 42, and his wife, Jennifer, 39, already had four children, including one other child who was carried by the same surrogate.

Allen West knows who to blame for the "destroying the black community" - President Obama!
As a Member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the House Small Business Committee, I am seriously concerned with the 13 percent unemployment number for Black Americans. The failed economic policies of President Obama are destroying the black community and lessening the chances for economic freedom while promoting economic dependence. Perhaps this is what the NAACP was afraid to hear me address.

Saturday night: Supermoon PLUS meteor shower:
Saturday night’s sky show doesn’t end with the Supermoon. The debris from Halley’s comet, known as the Aquarid meteor shower, will blaze a trail through the night sky with up to 40-60 meteors per hour under ideal conditions says NASA. But the super bright moon will compromise viewing conditions.
Still, if you can find a dark enough place (well away from light pollution), you may spot a few shooting stars and even a dramatic fireball or two. CWG’s Steve Tracton offers the following advice for viewing meteor showers under moon-lit conditions:
have the moon at your back and preferably with a building or other structure (or tree) placing you in the moon’s shadow. Leave time for your eyes to get use to the darkness. Meteor streaks will visible just about anywhere the sky is darkest (away from moonlight)...

What is so queer is that by the far-right GOP's own professed economic theories, the government and especially the office of the President aren't supposed to be involved in the economy. Yet whenever they criticize Obama they always seem to say "we can do better", as if they want to control the economy, but want the freedom simultaneously to profess that they should have the ability to control the economy.
It's just perverse.

The theory is that they will 'get out of the way', or 'unleash the market', and boom times will naturally follow. They don't really believe in economic theory, per se, merely that regulation of any kind is bad, and that companies will just naturally do what is best for the economy when left to their own devices.

Ohio Senate President tells Janet Porter enough already
Recently, Porter's group hoped to set up the pressure with newspaper ads [PDF] warning the Republican leadership that if they did not allow a vote on the bill, "we will work to replace them with people who will."
But all of this pressure appears to have backfired, as today, Senate President Thomas Niehaus announced that Porter's Heartbeat Bill was dead and blasted her organization for its unwillingness to accept any compromise on the legislation and for making "exaggerated and inflammatory statements" about his opposition to it:
President Tom Niehaus says he won’t pass legislation to essentially outlaw abortion in Ohio.
House Bill 125, the so-called heartbeat bill, triggered an unprecedented split in Ohio’s anti-abortion community, which disagreed about whether it was a good legal strategy to enact legislation almost certain to be declared unconstitutional.
In a strongly worded letter to “fellow pro-life Ohioan(s),” Niehaus said the bill was flawed and slammed supporters for questioning the commitment of majority Republicans in the Senate to ending abortion.
“Unfortunately, leaders of an organization called Faith2Action have made exaggerated and inflammatory statements...their claim that we ‘lose more than a school bus full of children every day’ due to a lack of Senate action on the bill is simply false, and I will not continue to allow this organization to question the commitment of my colleagues to ending the scourge of abortion.”
