Not really all that surprising anymore. Romney's so deep in the hole at this point, his only hope is that he can shore up the "angry white man vote" and take enough of them to make up what he's lost in scaring off the minority vote as well as the female vote.

Maddow and her team do far more research than most other journalists. They are much more fair to interviewees than most shows of the nature. It's one of the high points of journalism, and it's always sad to see it get attacked by partisans who can't stand that Maddow is taking the honest position of stating her politics up front instead of pretending to be an impossibly neutral observer.

The funniest part is when people compare her to Glenn Beck or somesuch using the kind of logic that we learned doesn't work back in 5th grade:
Glenn Beck is a TV personality
Rachel Maddow is a TV personality,
Therefore, the shows they make are basically the same in quality and purpose.
Kind of like:
Mark Twain is an author.
Dan Brown is an author.
Therefore, the books they wrote are basically the same in quality and purpose.

OK, in-house fact-checking.
That's the way journalism used to be as a rule. I think the recent spate of "fact-checkers" are actually lazy journalists who don't want to write a complete article of their own, they just want to snipe at someone else's work.

Probably not. The show has a staff of writers and producers who write the scripts. She probably has some editorial input but how much I have no idea. I'd love to see how these shows are done.
Like any other show; you're pretty safe to assume the on-air person has considerable editorial input (or to the extent that they want it).
You're showing your bias (which is edging uncomfortably close to sexism) to imply that she doesn't have considerable input into the editorial section and to imply that she doesnt lead it.

Feds: U.S. teen held in 'jihad' terrorist bomb attempt at Chicago bar
Adel Daoud, 18, of Hillside, was arrested late Friday when he tried to blow up what he thought was a car bomb in front of a downtown bar after undercover federal agents supplied him with fake bomb materials, prosecutors announced today.
Daoud was charged today with trying to use a weapon of mass destruction and trying to destroy a building using explosives. Daoud had come to the FBI’s attention this spring after he posted something online, and after an FBI undercover agent contacted him, he “expressed an interest in engaging in violent jihad, either in the United States or overseas,” according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office.

Think about old school news broadcasts. Tom Brokaw for example. I'm sure he had some oversight and consulted with producers and writers for his nightly broadcasts but he was basically the guy who read the script. With shows like 60 minutes those guys did have more input and control over their segments but they spent a week to put together a 15 minute segment. None of these people portrayed themselves as pundits. Today, all the shows on MSNBC and Fox are pundit shows. The hosts don't research and write an entire hour show every day. There's a staff of writters and producers who put these shows together and write the script. The Pundit characters may have some editorial input but they are just reading the script given to them. They aren't real pundits, they are news readers with a gimmick. It's a tv show.

You completely failed to address anything I said. Yes, it's a TV show. I'm not sure why you think this is a revelation. Yes, it's produced faster than 60 minutes was. I'm perfectly happy to go along with your bullshit psychic prediction that Maddow doesn't do anything herself on her own show, even though you have no actual proof of that or reason to think she doesn't spend her time researching and writing as well. But I'm talking about the show as a whole-- it is much more well-researched than most other shows, is much more fair-- one reason it won that Cronkite award, and it is open about its political bias.
Yet you, who claim that you want the media to improve, not only crap all over it but fatuously compare it to Glenn Beck, on the basis that they're both TV shows and Maddow has a personality.

Both Glenn Beck and Maddow employ scriptwriters. Both GB and M read the script. Both are concerned with presentation and its affect on the viewers.

The thrust of the argument is that Maddow is just a talking head, her education has no input into the show.
Which is a patently ridiculous fronted by someone who admits he doesn't watch her show.

Think about the "real" pundits out there. Let's say David Brooks, Thomas Friedman. They aren't going to waste their time reading the nightly news from a script. It would be a waste of time and talent. They probably have some staff to help but they are luck to write an article or two a week by themselves. Not an hour long newscast every day. It's just not possible.
Weren't you just on Maddow's case for commenting on day-old news? And now you're praising pundits that publish an article one or twice a week?
Make up you frakin' mind!

Because she doesn't research and write her own show. All these pundit shows are varying degrees of fake. It's a TV illusion. Even stand up comedians and radio dj's, who do moslty write their own material, will tell you they have on on stage/on air personality that it's necessarily who they are in real life. Yeah. That's your assertion. Actually, that's not even worthy of being called an assertion.
You claimed that the speed at which the show is made shows that it's fake: That claim is obviously wrong, as shown by the journalist Murray Kempton, one of the most respected of all time, who wrote his columns and pieces quickly and yet of immensely high quality. You have refused to acknowledge this error, and are incapable of dealing with it.
You have asserted, with no proof, that Maddow has little editorial input on her show. You know this because you're psychic, apparently.
You have refused to deal with the concept that shows can be similar in format and different in quality. No clue why: this is a completely simple concept that a highly-distracted teenager could grasp while live-tweeting their latest date, but it's apparently beyond you.
You have nothing. And as always, I can't even tell if you buy your own bullshit or are just being a troll.
But remember: The side effect of playing stupid like you are, is actually looking stupid.

March 27, 2012
"Essentially the process of working on my show is grinding your bones to dust each day an inch at a time. We work really long days, and it's really hard. Essentially the process is get in as early as you can, read as much as you can; we do a big news meeting early in the afternoon to debate and to talk about the universe of news for the day — to talk about what we're going to focus on. Once we've picked our various [topics] for the show, I've got an idea for a thesis or a series of facts to lay out for each one, and then I go and close the door and close the lights and turn into a cave-dwelling beast for as long as I can and just read and read and read, while the producers are collecting evidence and calling people and reporting. And then I confab with these brilliant, young, smart producers who work on my show, and it's a combination of us writing together, them writing something and bringing it to me, me writing. ... When 9 p.m. rolls around and it's time for my show to come on, it is a shock that it's 9 p.m., and I have to sprint to the makeup room every night with the show only 90 percent done."
