People’s Daily Mocked Over Phallic Headquarters
Chinese censors have been at work to stop people sniggering over the new Beijing headquarters of the People’s Daily newspaper, which bear an unfortunate resemblance to a giant penis.

My actually intelligent brother who insists on acting like an ignorant right-wing dumbfuck was just laughing at me on Yahoo about the wintry spring weather we’re having in the Midwest. “All I know is it’s snowing in KC” he said, ignoring when I pointed out to him the wildfires in California and the record high temperatures in Australia among other things. Does anyone know of any current articles discussing this unusual weather in a global warming context?

Speaking of the walkin’ talkin’ dead:
Preachers and politicans call for Americans to embrace God
Preachers and politicians urged Americans to embrace God during a National Day of Prayer ceremony Thursday outside the Anderson County Courthouse.
[…]
U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan lamented that “we as a nation have forgotten God and removed him from so many institutions.”
“The good news is that he has not forgotten us,” said Duncan, a Republican from Laurens. “He has not forgotten this country and he has not forgotten us as individuals.”
“We are hurting as a nation, Lord,” said Duncan during his prayer for national leadership. “We just ask that our nation will realize that a lot of our ills come because we have turned away from you. God, we need you.”
U.S. Sen. Tim Scott spoke after Duncan, loudly proclaiming, “I love Jesus.”
“I understand that the only way for us to find the path, the only way for us to find direction, is to fall on our knees,” said Scott, a Republican from Charleston.
[…]
[Elva Martin] also asked for protection from “terrorists, the ACLU, the traffickers, the gays (and) the Muslim Brotherhood.”
[…]
The paper included a pic of the crowd:

Paul Waldman calls it:
Conservative politicians and media figures have spent four years feeding the violent fantasies of the extreme right. It’s time they were held to account.
[…]
For instance, the NRA is having its annual convention in Houston as we speak. Yesterday, a man went into the Houston airport with an AR-15 and a handgun, fired into the air, was fired upon by law enforcement officials, and then shot himself. Glenn Beck then went on his program and told his viewers that there is “a very good chance” that the episode was engineered by the “uber left,” whatever that means, and compared it to the Reichstag fire. In other words, Beck is encouraging people to think that just like Hitler and the Nazis, Barack Obama is about to use an episode like that as a pretext for the imposition of some kind of horrifically oppressive regime. Beck is a featured speaker at the NRA convention, along with a passel of well-known Republican politicians like Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum. How many of them will condemn him? None, of course.
They won’t, not only because most of the people at the convention probably agree with Beck, but because what Beck says is only a tiny step or two toward the fringe from what they say all the time. Is there a prominent Republican politician who hasn’t at some point in the last four years told people that Barack Obama is a tyrant, or that our liberties are being stripped away, that Obama wants to kill your grandma with his death panels, or that America is inches from ceasing to be what it has been for two centuries? Is there a prominent Republican politician who hasn’t done his or her part to feed the paranoid, violent fantasies of the extreme right? If confronted, they’d no doubt say, “Oh, well I never actually said people should forget about democracy and start killing cops and soldiers in an attempt to overthrow the government. That’s not what I meant at all when I talked about ‘tyranny’ and ‘oppression’ and that stuff.” But that’s exactly what their supporters heard, and they damn well know it. And they ought to be held to account.

WND and Glenn Beck Want YOU to Build an Untraceable Assault Rifle
While America is searches its soul, attempting to make sense of these and other horrific attacks that have rocked the nation with disturbing regularity over the last several years, gun rights absolutists have flooded the Internet and airwaves with wild-eyed talk of sinister government plans to undermine the Second Amendment and disarm harmless American patriots.
At the bottom of the barrel are those who seek to profit off these national tragedies. That’s where you’ll find Caleb Lee, a veteran huckster who has partnered with WorldNetDaily, Glenn Beck and others to offer anyone with $27 information on how to built a completely untraceable AR-15 assault rifle in the comfort of their own garage.
Lee is the proprietor of UndergroundAssaultRifle.com, a Virginia-based business whose sole product is a set of videos and do-it-yourself manual which purports to tell purchasers everything they need to know about crafting copies of the assault rifle used recently in massacres in Newtown, Conn., and Aurora, Colo.
A self-described “red-blooded American” and proud “capitalist” (not, he emphasizes in his online ad, “a ‘spread the wealth’ socialist like those fools in the Whitehouse for crying out loud”), Lee has partnered with far-right media outfits including the online “news” site WorldNetDaily (WND) and Glenn Beck’s TV network and website, TheBlaze, to promote his new business. As of Thursday evening, WND, whose editors never met a conspiracy theory they didn’t like, featured a link to Lee’s ad on its front page, where it shared space with headlines warning direly of a “Saul Alinsky plot to vilify guns” and speculating that the nasty weather that scuttled plans to hoist a spire to the top of theWorld Trade Center on Monday was sent by an angry God to punish America for abandoning Him.

Blistering audit faults Wis. job creation agency
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A blistering audit released Wednesday said Gov. Scott Walker’s premier job creation agency repeatedly broke state law in its first year of operation, failed to adequately track money it awarded for economic development projects and sometimes gave money to ineligible recipients.
Employees of the public-private entity also made unexplained purchases of University of Wisconsin football season tickets, alcohol and iTunes gift cards, the far-reaching audit of the nearly two-year-old Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. found.
Walker and the Legislature created WEDC in 2011 and it has been beset by problems since it started operating in July of that year. The audit by the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau only added to the woes, with Republicans who supported creating WEDC, along with longtime Democratic critics, calling for immediate changes.
