Yep. I enjoy old unixen. This is one of the newest I putter around with.

When I get the laptop I’m waiting on I’ll be setting it up to run Xenix 2.3.4 from 1989 or so. That one’s really honking primitive in a lot of ways but it’s fun to play where a 500 mb drive is enormous ;)

How do I know it’s a slow weekend and I’m bored out of my skull? I’m slowly chewing through my Netflix list of movies to watch later.

Old flavours of Unix/Linux creak way too much for me. I no longer have systems old enough to install them on.

Heh. At least the ones I play with can understand IDE. I’ve got a friend who spends more time looking for working ESDI drives than he does running his systems.

I am amazed at the sounds they come up with with what is a traditional bluegrass lineup. And then there is the material they write from those sounds that is nothing like bluegrass. These guys are inspirational.

I just had the best brisket of my life. So tender…. smoked for 26 hours a block and a half from the shop.

With green chile corn chowder that could almost hold up the spoon.

Interesting combination of instruments used effectively to create a unique sound. Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin, Violin, Banjo, and Acoustic Bass, very original for the style of music they produce with them.

Note: LAX Suspect Wanted To Kill At Least One Officer

“Black, white, yellow, brown, I don’t discriminate,” the note read, according to a paraphrase by a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

The suspect’s screed also mentioned “fiat currency” and “NWO,” possible references to the New World Order, a conspiracy theory that foresees a totalitarian one-world government.

No wonder the wingnuts don’t wanna talk about this guy.

And in Indiana, you get to choose your own time zone based on personal convenience.

When I was in Italy many years ago, in February, kids would be dressed in costumes on random days just because the weather was nice and they (and their moms) felt like it. Lots of princesses tossing confetti.

They’re celebrating it here, but mostly as an occasion for commercial promotion, like every other holiday.

Dia de los Muertos decorations are very enjoyable, except when located next to a Christmas tree.

Almost forgot to share.

Had to go to the supermarket last night. While I was there, there was a woman in the dairy section who was quite vocal in explaining how the store employees were all CIA plants.

We moved on to the deli.

LAX suspect shot TSA officer, walked away, then returned to shoot him again

According to Birotte, the suspect walked up to a TSA checkpoint in Terminal 3, pulled a “.223-caliber M&P 15 assault rifle out of his bag and filed multiple rounds at point-blank range” at Hernandez

S&W classifies that as a “sporting rifle.” I can tell I’m not a gun enthusiast, because that sucker looks like something you’d go to war with (properly modified). Do hunters really use something like that to shoot deer, etc.?

Too small a caliber round for most hunters tastes for use against large game animals. However hunters do use 6 and 7mm rifles for hunting deer and wild sheep on a regular basis. While those rounds are not all that much bigger than the 5.56mm/.223 round they pack considerably more punch in foot pounds of energy delivered.

Thanks for the info. I’ve fired a rifle like three times, and a revolver six times (my brother-in-law’s), so I am a complete gun noob.

Here in Middle Tennessee, .223 assault type rifles are popular to hunt feral hogs.

[get to use them for shooting something else other than paper targets]

For larger game like deer, a larger caliber is usually used.

I was supposed to see Chris Thiele at Strathmore last week, but a friend was in the hospital. I play mandolin myself, so I really looking forward to that. Next time, I guess.
