Breitbart “News” Beclowns Themselves Yet Again

Right wing journalism at its finest
Wingnuts • Views: 22,391

I’ve taken a bit of a break from mocking the right wing idiots at breitbart.com lately, but this self-beclownment is so monumental it rivals Ben Shapiro’s hilarious “Friends of Hamas” smear against Chuck Hagel, as Larry O’Connor gets the vapors over President Obama’s recitation of an early version of the Gettysburg address for a Ken Burns film: OBAMA REMOVES ‘GOD’ FROM GETTYSBURG ADDRESS.

Then, six hours after the screaming anti-Obama headline comes the sheepish update:

UPDATE: A text box now appears on the Ken Burns website learntheaddress.org which states: “Did you know there are five versions of the Gettysburg Address? We asked President Obama to read the first, the Nicolay Version.” A cached version of the same webpage from several days ago shows no such reference.

Right, because O’Connor and the rest of the right wing crazysphere made such a stink about this moronic fake outrage that Ken Burns needed to post a clarification to stop the idiocy from spreading any further. Winning!

And speaking of clarifications, Larry — how about an update to your totally wrong headline?

Originalists!

The “Nicolay Copy” is often called the “first draft” because it is believed to be the earliest of the copies that exist of the Gettysburg Address. The “Hay” or “second draft” version was probably made by Lincoln shortly after his return from Gettysburg.

Well, that was interesting! I had no idea when I memorized the Gettysburg Address in middle school, which was not very difficult to do, that what I memorized was a strange amalgamation of the five extant manuscript versions of that speech.

But there, in good old conservative Lancaster PA, they gave us a text that did not include the word God! They left it out!

Evidence that the commie Muslims were already at work? It makes perfect sense, because Barack Obama had been born in Kenya by then, and they were laying the groundwork for his takeover of the world.

I wonder if it was a procedural issue or if they were ruling on the merits of the case.

“Splitting five-to-four, the Supreme Court late Friday afternoon refused to block a Texas abortion law that critics say is forcing the closing of one-third of all clinics in the state. The Court had been studying the issue for the past week. The majority said that the challengers had not met the requirement for setting aside a federal appeals court order permitting the law to take effect. (my emphasis)

“The majority specifically included Justices Antonin Scalia, who wrote separately in a concurring opinion joined by Justices Samuel A. Alito, Jr., and Clarence Thomas. But Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy presumably voted with those three, because it would have taken five votes to act definitively on the plea by doctors and clinics. Roberts and Kennedy did not say they had not taken part. The specific order denying the application (13A452) was unsigned.”

Supreme Court Refuses to Block Texas Abortion Law

But a three-judge appellate panel moved quickly to overrule the judge. The appeals court said the law was in line with Supreme Court rulings that have allowed for abortion restrictions so long as they do not impose an “undue burden” on a woman’s ability to obtain an abortion. Writing for the appeals court, Judge Priscilla Owen noted that the Texas law would not end the procedure, only force women to drive a greater distance to obtain one.

Driving from one end of Texas to the other is not an undue burden?

IIRC, in Europe the same distance could be two or three countries!

I have had people (not friends) tell me with a straight face that “He’s some kind of Muslim Communist, and wants to impose Sharia Law and the UN will come in to enforce it” (Ok, maybe stretching just a tiny bit, but not by much).

I have a feeling that he will be so relieved when his presidency is all over. I suspect that he will join The Elders (the retired world leaders working for peace and justice, not the Lovecraft evil race) and probably do some great things there.
