An Oldie That Still Sounds Amazing: Midnight Oil, “Truganini”
Here’s a song that isn’t new, but still packs a powerful message and sounds incredible after 17 years.

I think it has been said several times (most recently upon the passing of Lou Reed last year) but it is certainly apropos today: if every self-styled “music expert” who now busy eulogizing The Ramones had actually bought their albums and concert tickets, those guys would have been able to leave their next of kin something to show for their early demises.

Danced like hell to these guys back in the day.
Am I the only one here besides Charles?

Well, that settles it. I’m singing The Dead Heart when I go out to karaoke tonight, and dedicate it to Big Tony Scalia.
Mining companies, pastoral companies
Uranium companies
Collected companies

I do wish Best of Both Worlds had a karaoke version out there though. That song is so… damn… ANGRY.

It’s the “Full Buck Moon.”
“Full moon names date back to Native Americans, of what is now the northern and eastern United States,” explains space.com skywatching columnist Joe Rao. “Those tribes of a few hundred years ago kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full moon. Their names were applied to the entire month in which each occurred.”
The full moon names and dates for 2014 include: Full Wolf Moon Jan. 15, Full Snow Moon Feb. 14, Full Worm Moon Mar. 16, Full Pink Moon Apr. 15, Full Flower Moon May 14, Full Strawberry Moon June 13, Full Buck Moon July 12, Full Sturgeon Moon Aug. 10, Full Harvest Moon Sept. 8, Full Hunters’ Moon Oct. 8, Full Beaver Moon Nov. 6, and Full Cold Moon Dec. 6.

Hi
Been totally ignoring my email this week. The central coast has no cell service let alone internet. I’ll be catching up as we post the best. Just over 1000 frames shot between the two of us. D_L is learning to exploit tv/av modes and we both were exposure auto bracketing. Interesting how the clouds can be thin enough to make the preview screen useless but thick enough to de saturate the scenery.
Yes gonna see about that moon tonight. 400mm and locked down.

There is no evidence for this except the memories of those present (and this is the last, but not the first telling of the story): My boyfriend in college had a punk radio show on KUOR. They were the only punk radio show at the time, so they were able to set up an interview with the Ramones when they came to LA in 1977 or ‘78, at the motel on Sunset Strip that they were staying at. Poolside. They brought me and another friend. Wish I had a photo. Dee Dee thought I blew him a kiss (I was just licking my lips ‘cause they were dry) and he blew me one. Joey came out of his room near the end, looking terrible but happy with two women somewhat clad in leopard print.

Ah, I knew you’d said something about being busy, but I didn’t realize you were out of town. Looking forward to the new photos!
P.S. I was thinking about you yesterday—I was on iTunes downloading an old song from the ’70s that had popped into my head for some reason. It was My Maria by B. W. Stevenson, for the fellow dinosaurs who remember it, heh.
Anyway, I’m generally not really into Country & Western music, but I noticed there was a remake by Brooks & Dunn. I had no idea about them beyond vaguely remembering having heard their name before. When I saw the lead singer it was like, “ZOMG, he looks like Daniel!”. It was kind of unsettling. LOL

Cool! The first time I saw them was outdoors and it was STILL the loudest concert experience of my life. My ears rang for days. I have not attended a live music performance of any kind without earplugs since.
The second and last time I saw them was near the end of their touring days in Prague. It was their debut in that part of the world and the response was even more enthusiastic than that which greeted the arrival of Kentucky Friend Chicken in town that very same year!

Sadly, that sickness is of this planet. Of us (humans)—the animal kingdom doesn’t do it, nor does the animal kingdom torture or murder in the manner we do—that’s what makes it so horrifying. We own it.
