What Happens When a White Man Parades Around Outside a School in a Bullet-Proof Vest With an AK-47?

With all of the police shootings of unarmed black people in the news lately, it’s interesting to note what happens when a white man shows up outside a high school dressed in a bullet-proof vest, with an AK-47 and a full clip of ammunition.

Nothing, that’s what happens.

And Leonard Embody says if you think there’s something wrong with what he’s doing, you need psychological help.

Witnesses say Embody was pacing Hillsboro Road, dressed much like a soldier, and it had a lot of people nervous. So nervous that 911 dispatchers had their hands full.

When Channel 4 met up with Embody on Thursday, he offered no apologies and even called Wednesday’s demonstration a success.

“A school is a prime place to be able to hand out my leaflets and educate children that guns aren’t dangerous as people think they are. Certainly a man carrying a gun doesn’t mean they’re going to get shot,” he said.

Embody said he’ll continue making the rounds, defending the Second Amendment, no matter who it offends.

“I don’t think I look terrifying. Other people may think I look terrifying, but that’s in their own minds and that’s something they should deal with … with maybe a psychologist,” Embody said.

Metro school officials said their resource officers were aware of Embody’s demonstration, and had he set foot on campus, they would have arrested him.

Outside that, what he was doing is perfectly legal because of Tennessee’s open carry law, meaning there’s nothing that prohibits people from carrying a gun out in the open.

He didn’t enter the school or go on its grounds. He didn’t break any laws. Nobody was hurt, nobody was threatened.

So?

He’s the one who needs, not psychological help, but a dressing down. He’s contributing to the pool of false positives. This muddies the waters. Muddy waters lead to mistakes and mistakes lead to deaths.

Let me get this straight. How many mass murders in schools have been by white guys wearing body armor or carrying semi-auto rifles?

Or going to a movie theater to watch a movie.

And yet if you think that this heavily armed nitwit is a threat, you’re the one who has problems?

Facts and logic are what’s wrong here. The facts and logic suggests that if someone is heavily armed and near a school, that they may be up to no good. And there’s usually a body count associated with it. The history of mass shootings is predominantly white, heavily armed, and often wearing body armor of some form.

Open carry runs headlong into common sense - and that’s not even beginning to touch on the insanity that is SYG. Combine the two, and you’ve just recreated the Wild West where anything goes and you take your life into your own hands just by walking down the street or going into a store or a restaurant or minding your own business.

Mass murder of pretty much any type by a single person seems that way. Sure you have dictators that mass murder using an army or militia around the world, but a single person killing many people seems to be a predominantly white thing in the US.

The guy with the rifle might be a highly trained and proficient combat marksman or he might be a drooling psychopath who has never touched a rifle before he picked up this one up yesterday. There is no way to tell, since literally anyone can do this.
Open carry is a relic from the nineteenth century, when people moved around on foot or horseback and their guns, if they had them, were necessarily in the open. It still has some relevance in rural areas, for instance, if I am out looking for feral hogs and have to cross a public road with my rifle.
These idiotic demonstrations by urban nutburgers and conspiracy dupes only hasten the day when governments will prohibit the practice entirely.
In particular it is only a matter of time before some pumped-up cop, panicked home-owner, or fellow gun humper loses it and kills one of these fools. Since their rifles are always slung during these demonstrations, the nuts are in a poor position to defend themselves if they do happen to set someone off.

That’s a good point and I thought about mentioning it since most of these characters seem to be fringe dwellers of one kind or another. Even so, the suburban environments; shopping malls, big box stores, and now schools; where we see these clowns are basically urban in character compared to the unambiguously rural areas where I believe open carry is still justifiable and non-threatening. Walking down a country road with their slung rifles just wouldn’t make their point for them, since nobody except possibly the game warden would pay any attention.

As a Nashvillian, this embarrasses the hell out of me, but it also shows that this moron was extremely selective in choosing his “target” to “protest” at.

Hillsboro High School is smack dab in the middle of Green Hills, one of the toniest and richest parts of town, a part of town that is overwhelmingly white, IIRC. If he had tried his “protest” at , say, Stratford High (which is in my neighborhood and my alma mater) or Maplewood High (which is also not too far from me and is a traditional rival to Stratford), schools that are majority black AFAIK, Metro would have been scraping his ass off of the curb after the schools’ SROs (School Resource Officers, i.e. cops) blew some holes in him.
