Rudy Giuliani: “White Police Officers Wouldn’t Be There if You [Blacks] Weren’t Killing Each Other”
In response to a question from Chuck Todd about the overwhelming prevalence of white police officers in black communities, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani hauled out one of the right wing’s “but what about this?” non sequitur talking points — the counter-charge that most violence against blacks is committed by other blacks. Michael Eric Dyson calls it “the defensive mechanism of white supremacy,” and I have to agree. What Giuliani is saying here is that black communities have some special kind of savagery that can only be controlled by white police.
It’s a horrifyingly patronizing and racist view; “white supremacy” is no exaggeration.
