Gotcha. This is going to be a circus. I can totally see him getting tons of interviews and possibly even a book deal and living happily ever after while we get told about how “tough” it is to be Darren Wilson.

Regin, new computer spying bug, discovered by Symantec
A leading computer security company says it has discovered one of the most sophisticated pieces of malicious software ever seen.
Symantec says the bug, named Regin, was probably created by a government and has been used for six years against a range of targets around the world.
Once installed on a computer, it can do things like capture screenshots, steal passwords or recover deleted files.
Experts say computers in Russia, Saudi Arabia and Ireland have been hit most.
It has been used to spy on government organisations, businesses and private individuals, they say.
Researchers say the sophistication of the software indicates that it is a cyber-espionage tool developed by a nation state.

Kris Kobach dismisses controversy over ‘ethnic cleansing’ comment http://t.co/H8nxxyz73q He's architect of far right agenda.
— Tony Diaz (@Librotraficante) November 24, 2014
“What protects us in America from any kind of ethnic cleansing is the rule of law, of course. And the rule of law used to be unassailable … And now, of course, we have a president who disregards the law when it suits his interests,” Kobach said as riffs from the song “Mysterious Ways” by U2 played.
“So, while I normally would answer that by saying, ‘Steve, of course we have the rule of law, that could never happen in America.’ I wonder what could happen. I still don’t think it’s going to happen in America, but I have to admit, things are strange and they are happening.”

Oh, I’ve no doubt they’re shopping around to see which network will give him the most “respectful” (i.e. whitewashed) portrayal of his “side of the story.” They’ll talk about everything that the police have since made public, i.e. everything showing Brown as a “thug” and then discuss how noble and brave Wilson was in confronting him. How he took “savage” blows to the face, yet still selflessly put himself in danger by chasing after Brown in order to protect the public. And how he was wrongfully accused, attacked by the “liberal” media, and how his life is now a shambles for “just doing his job.”
And how could I forget the question that all such “exclusives” should have: “If you had to do it all over again, what would you change?” With Wilson, of course, saying he’d change nothing because he did everything “right.”

“Police are trained and expected to react to deadly threats. As many deadly threats emerge is the exact amount of times police will respond,” wrote Ian Adams, a West Jordan police officer and spokesman for the Utah Fraternal Order of Police. “The onus is on the person being arrested to stop trying to assault and kill police officers and the innocent public. … Why do some in society continue to insist the problem lies with police officers?”

Really, that article from the Salt Lake Tribune is significant, because I think it’s the first time anyone has bothered to count up all the police-involved killings in a jurisdiction and compare them to other types of killings. And that it’s *Utah,* which is very white and very conservative and they still have this proportion of officer-involved killings says volumes.

A Florida man attempting to get local firefighters to save his home — which was ablaze four houses away — was rebuffed at the firehouse door and told to call 911 instead, reports the Sun Sentinel.
Neville Morrison, 67, of Plantation, said he ran bare-footed to the station down the street from his home where he was met by a emergency medical technician who insisted he call 911 by phone and not report the fire in person.
“I said, ‘I have no phone,’” Morrison recalled. “I said, ‘You can see the blaze coming out of the roof of my house.’ He told me twice to call 911, and then he closed the door with me standing outside.”

Professional wrestling may be primarily choreographed entertainment and not an actual sport, but make no mistake about it, the guys who do it for a living train hard for it and doing it does take a toll on the body. Perhaps too great a toll. A large number of wrestlers have died before they even hit 50 and a good number of those were related to painkiller addiction driven by years of getting slammed around a ring several nights a week.
Having said that, I 100% agree with your point about Hogan being on that list. Schwarzenegger is one of the most successful bodybuilders of all time but I wouldn’t rank him amongst the top athletes of all time.

Gordon also stated the EMT was a longtime employee with a clean record who should have kept Morrison at the station while he called dispatch himself.

What Sagehen said. Also, you can do isometrics at work, which will help keep you in tone.
On your workdays, you can get about 80% of the benefit of a workout from walking briskly for about half an hour. (I used to do that every day at lunch — I was lucky enough to have a good hill to climb near the office.) That should at least curb the weight gain, although you want to find some time to exercise on weekends if possible.

Yes, I saw that.
I also read this;
stltoday.com
ST. LOUIS • Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman in the 900 block of North 4th Street late Friday.
Police identified the woman as Becca Campbell, 26, of the 2900 block of Willow Creek Lane. Police responded to a call at 11:45 p.m. of an accident at North 4th Street and Cole street. While responding they received an updated call that a woman was inside a vehicle and had been shot in the head. Campbell was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. A 33-year-old man was inside the vehicle with the woman at the time of the shooting. He was being interviewed to determine how the Campbell was shot.
Forgive me, but I don’t see the suspicion alluded to in #78

Seriously though, it does seem that businesses are turning over to Christmas earlier and earlier - stomping all over Thanksgiving and even Halloween. It’s a business thing, but it looks like the actual religious underpinning for the day is lost on most people altogether. And the appearance of Christmas is more important than actually abiding by the religious values (as we see played out over and over and over).

“For the record, I met briefly with Darren Wilson a few days ago to see if he wanted to do an interview with me. That’s standard procedure,” Cooper wrote on Twitter.
Cooper apparently decided to tweet about it because some viewers who saw my “Reliable Sources” segment thought the meetings were inappropriate and said so on Twitter. Some commenters even suggested — conspiratorially — that the meetings revealed bias on the part of the anchors.
Cooper pointed out that he’d repeatedly interviewed Brown’s family members and their attorneys.
“I’d also like to interview the grand jury,” Cooper wrote. “There is no conspiracy here. Reporters want to interview people and sometimes you have to meet them first.”
He added that Wilson had chosen “not to do an interview with me.”
Separately, Lemon wrote on Twitter that his meeting with Wilson was “not out of the ordinary,” and that “We’ve interviewed the Brown family, Dorian Johnson and all witnesses. Of course we’d want to interview Wilson.”
None of the other anchors have commented. Representatives for NBC, ABC and CBS declined to comment.
Two of my network sources — who spoke on condition of anonymity — said that the CBS newsmagazine “60 Minutes” has been in especially hot pursuit of an interview with Wilson.

Check Discover magazine for ideas. They usually have ads in the back for equipment and so on. Ditto Astronomy and Sky&Telescope mags.
Avoid any microscope made of plastic. I suppose the idea is kids shouldn’t have ‘scopes made from metal and glass, but my attitude is if a kid knows the thing will break he or she will use it carefully.
Oh, Edmund Scientific has a lot of stuff, too. Their Astroscan telescope was an exception to my no plastic ‘scopes rule. I’m not sure if they still market it.

In just the past 5 days, we’ve had cops shoot and kill an unarmed man in a stairwell in NYC - and the NYPD admits that it was accidental - that the man did no wrong. The officer, on the other hand, did.
Then there was the mother who shot and killed her kids in South Jersey, and then shot herself (she died in the hospital after several days).
Then there was the father hunting with his son, and he shot and killed the son.
There was the hunter who shot and killed another hunter, who he mistook for a deer.
There was the kid who was killed for playing with a toy gun.
There was the 4 year old shooting a 3 year old in the face (the kid survived). There’s no word on how the kid got the gun, but the father of the boy shot says that his guns were all locked up.
Another day in paradise.

The officials described Mr. Obama’s decision to remove Mr. Hagel, 68, as a recognition that the threat from the Islamic State would require a different kind of skills than those that Mr. Hagel was brought on to employ. A Republican with military experience who was skeptical about the Iraq war, Mr. Hagel came in to manage the Afghanistan combat withdrawal and the shrinking Pentagon budget in the era of budget sequestration.
But now “the next couple of years will demand a different kind of focus,” one administration official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. He insisted that Mr. Hagel was not fired, saying that he initiated discussions about his future two weeks ago with the president, and that the two men mutually agreed that it was time for him to leave.

The reality is there’s no good answer over what to do in Syria. We don’t want to spent another decade trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, but any effort to combat ISIL that doesn’t include their subsidiary in Syria leaves the job incomplete and provides for them a safe harbor like the Taliban enjoyed in Pakistan. VB,
If you want to explore the board gaming side of things I’ll put a link here for the Board Game Geek website. In particular a forum page for FLGS (Friendly Local Game Store) in the Detroit area. The overall site is also very useful for game reviews and such.
There probably has to be more digging to find a store that caters better towards family games and such as compared to a store that specializes primarily in Magic cards or comics with a smattering of board games.
Or, you can just explore as time permits and see what the gamer environment is like. >:)

Should the media have paid more attention to the House Benghazi report supporting the administration? http://t.co/DUQcKbdZlW— HowardKurtz (@HowardKurtz) November 24, 2014
Should media be questioning why GOP dumped it on a Friday night chock full of other news (Ferguson grand jury; immigration kerfuffle). Absolutely. Should they be highlighting that the GOP spent 2 years claiming all manner of conspiracy and malfeasance by the Administration over how they approached the Benghazi incident.
And the GOP investigation found nothing. No wrong doing. No cover up. Nothing so much as even the slightest bit of impropriety by the Administration - whether it was the President, Sec. State, or CIA, or DoD. And even the claim that was made initially about the film playing a role in the crisis turned out to be confirmed later by some of the very participants who were eventually captured.
More to the point, shouldn’t Fox News be spending days apologizing for getting and hyping every Benghazi related story except the only one that counts - that the GOP/right wing witch hunt turned out to be completely bogus and that every single one of those Fox News nitwits pushing this story for months owes the Administration an apology (none forthcoming, but it’s laughable that Fox is now complaining about how biased the coverage was for a scandal that wasn’t supported by reality).
In other words, the GOP nothing burger, which was used to rile up the low-information GOP voters into a frenzy calling for impeachment and demands for action was completely bogus and wrong.
But since this is the GOP - it means never having to say you’re wrong. They just move on to the next kerfuffle and nothingburger of a scandal (it’ll be the IRS from here on out).

Rand Paul Calls for a Formal Declaration of War Against ISIS
WASHINGTON — Senator Rand Paul is calling for a declaration of war against the Islamic State, a move that promises to shake up the debate over the military campaign in Iraq and Syria as President Obama prepares to ask Congress to grant him formal authority to use force.
Mr. Paul, a likely presidential candidate who has emerged as one of the Republican Party’s most cautious voices on military intervention, offered a very circumscribed definition of war in his proposal, which he outlined in an interview on Saturday. He would, for instance, limit the duration of military action to one year and significantly restrict the use of ground forces…
This should be fun; Paul is actually calling on Congress to do something other than investigate Benghazi and rail against the president.

You can’t compare extrajudicial lynchings in the Old West in the 1890’s for various crimes like horse stealing, cattle rustling, train robbery with lynching in the 1950’s in the deep South of Civil Rights activists.

I’m not comparing anything to anything else. Absent context, there’s not much to be derived from the table. Were the lynchings of Native Americans or Mexicans even counted inasmuch as they were regarded as non-persons in some regions? Some of those white lynching victims could well have been vagrants who were in the area when a crime was committed. We just don’t know.

Now this in an interesting followup on the woman who shot herself in the head after buying a gun which, according to her boyfriend was to be “ready for Ferguson.”
She was actually a Ferguson protestor and the cops may not be buying her boyfriend’s story 100%.

Now circuit jidhe saying evidence may not be revealed if no indictment …hmm if one was a conspiracy theorist one would ponder if McCullough made a “promise” he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep. The NHC has issued a summary of their 2014 hurricane predictions versus what happened (though hurricane season officially ends on 11/30).
NOAA has issued its summary of the 2014 hurricane season. It's linked under “Top News” at http://t.co/DmBi7r4JYU pic.twitter.com/d8AEhZzzNZ— Natl Hurricane Ctr (@NHC_Atlantic) November 24, 2014
Turns out that their predictions were quite spot on. That’s right folks. They got the numbers right - but only one hurricane actually made landfall in the US, so people will automatically assume that there weren’t any storms of concern.

I thought Libertarians were against war.
But they are in favour of business, and they are stupid enough to believe war is good for business while also believing that what’s good for business is good for the country.
History does not bear out this belief. Long wars impoverish countries as weapons are the most expendable of consumer goods. They are meant to be destroyed or destroy themselves in the course of their use. Since those weapons are paid for with either taxes, debt, or both, every weapon destroyed is money disappearing.
Wars might be good for business but they are bad for nations.
Plus I suspect Rand is rewarding those who paid for his campaigns.

Rand also realizes that the libertarians’ isolationism doesn’t fit in with the nation’s inclination to kill for peace. The system is such that there must always be an external enemy somewhere that needs to have his behavior corrected through ordnance. If we just start ignoring anyone who’s not actually invading our shores and let foreigners write their own history then that system falls apart.

Free market. You can find a better deal shopping around if you’re on an exchange since the plan you had in 2014 might be priced higher than another plan that covers the same levels. IOW, that’s capitalism at work.
Which apparently is somehow evil according to the GOP.

The market is supposed to work in favor of the suppliers, not the consumers. Because it is the suppliers who have the combined financial clout to donate to the people who regulate the market.

T-Mac’s growing on me:
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) called to leave a scathing message earlier this year with the Democratic state senator who sealed the demise of Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion, according to the Washington Post.
Phillip Puckett had resigned abruptly in June amid private talks with Virginia Republicans about a state job, swinging control of the closely divided chamber to the GOP, which was fighting the expansion for some 400,000 residents.
“Hey, Phil? Terry McAuliffe,” the governor said in what the Post described as a “seething voice message” to Puckett. “I want you to know we just lost the vote, 20 to 19, in the Senate. Medicaid is done. I hope you sleep easy tonight, buddy.”
