It’s technically possible - you basically have to serve by certified mail in order to ensure that the recipient received it. I think it may also vary by jurisdiction; some courts may require that a process server be used so as to ensure consistency of service.

Funny you should mention that. The local radio station was playing “Spirit of Radio” by Rush, and I was thinking that there was a disconnect between the guitar and bass. I mean, Geddy Lee can play, but it seemed as if he and Alex Lifeson were playing in different studios. I wondered (ad I have to put in my (dis)qualifier that I am a guitar listener, but not a very good player) if there was a better way to play the bass for that song.
To make a short story long, I always liked the way the bass is played in this performance of Badfinger’s “No Matter What”.
It’s almost as if the bass has the lead and the other instruments are supporting. Even the solo is a bass solo, with a slide guitar accompanying.

Given that the halftime shows are all dance numbers with “stars” paid a bundle to lipsync or playsync I would still prefer them to just spend the money and do something special or interesting with the dance number and just be honest about piping the music in. And you also then aren’t limited to centering the numbers around some person limited by skill or having to act like they’re singing the song.

They’re not paid a dime to perform at the half time show. They used to pay them then they noticed how much the entertainer’s music sold after and quit paying them.
I would think that the competition to do the half time show involves the same amount of graft as the Olympic city hosting site committee.

Boring.
I would strongly recommend against that for several reasons, principal among them train service here in the U.S. SUCKS. I used to enjoy riding VIA rail in Canada between Ottawa and Toronto (and occasionally Montreal) but a trip as far as New Orleans would be tricky.
Also, I’ve done some research and it seems that neither Amtrak or VIA offer many cross border destinations outside of Ontario and BC. So you’d have to drive into the U.S. and pick up an Amtrak train from somewhere to get to NO.
The closest Midwest-ish city to where you’re at that I could even find service to New Orleans from was Fargo, ND and for that you’d be looking at at a total travel time of close to 36 hours at a minimum cost of $500/person.

History of Water Battles (naumachiae) - Julius Caesar and the Emperor Claudius
Julius Caesar originated these spectacular displays when in 46 AD he had a permanent lake built specifically for Naumachiae, or water battles on the far side of the River Tiber. This lake measured 1800ft long and 1200ft wide and was surrounded by marble seating for the wealthy spectators. Up to 3000 men and possibly 1200 sharks, some with tridents attached to their heads, were engaged in the fighting and the sea battle featured 12 Roman galleys. The Emperor Claudius was also fond of these water battles and used the Fucine Lake for this purpose. The number of galleys involved in the water battles increased and became more elaborate and spectacular.

It’s not the sort of thing a culture would like to leave records of.
Colosseum had real sharks:
Another exciting battle that was held in the great Colosseum were sea battles. Even before the Colosseum was built, “Julius Caesar presented the first recorded naumachia (sea fight) on a specially excavated lake in 46 B.C.” (Watkins 45). When the Colosseum was finally finished, it was a perfect place for tens of thousands of Romans to come and witness these great battles. Fought by gladiators, the arena was flooded with water, releasing sharks and other dangerous sea creatures into the water that would help to make these battles more realistic and exciting. But these battles took much preparation and training before they could be held for public entertainment; ships had to be built, gladiators and oarsmen trained and the arena filled with water. Only a few emperors went through the trouble of providing these sea battles for their people’s enjoyment. So for a Roman citizen, it was seen as a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be able to witness this event.

My favorite lines from “City Of New Orleans”:
“…And the sons of Pullman Porters, and the sons of Engineers,
Ride their father’s magic carpets made of steel.
And, mothers with their babes asleep rocking to the gentle beat,
And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel.”

“You’re gonna need a bigger trireme.”
Yo dawg, I heard you like triremes, so I put a trireme in your trireme (and build a hexareme).
Now you’re rollin’ like a Ptolemy.

What a beautiful ship! I wonder what makes it go?

The screenwriter, Gore Vidal, didn’t think any of it made any sense either.
Where’s that clip from? I wanna see that now!!!

Yep. Hell if anything Obama’s been very congenial with Bibi given how Bibi never misses an opportunity to screw Obama over to kiss his American right wing friends’ asses.

I’m sorry that anyone can watch or listen to Ted Cruz and not be repelled by his obvious bad faith.

So, as a Patriots fan, I could hear the collective screams of Pats haters all across the country. (Felt almost like the sweet taste of wingnut tears.)
I was glad they won—wouldn’t have been all that upset either way. That catch, followed closely by that idiotic pass. What can I say. Well, there’s a lot of Pete Carroll haters out there, so they’ll have something to whine about too.
My party was a success. Food was a hit and had a group ranging in age from 4 to 72, and all got along! All cleaned up, tired as hell, and, ironically, need to work tomorrow on a bid for a project in Seattle.

So, the sports team from Boston did more sports and sportsing than the team from Seattle. Great!
Speaking of sports, I went skiing today and saw the new women’s downhill course in Beaver Creek for the World Alpine Ski Championships. Ferocious is too light a word to describe it. This picture is of a nasty right turn that the ladies will have to negotiate at 60-70+ m.p.h.
This right turn on the women's downhill (called Raptor) is INSANE! #VailBC2015 pic.twitter.com/10fOM6CGrg— Charlie Vogel (@teleskiguy) February 1, 2015

Oh? Don’t get me started on that team from NE. Okay I hate the Pats I admit it freely and loudly but there’s more important things at play and baseball season just round the corner.

I keep checking to make sure this isn’t The Onion, or Raw Story getting duped by The Onion:
rawstory.com 9 year old kid gets suspended from a school in Kermit, TX for “terroristic threats” involving a magic ring. He seems to have threatened to disappear a classmate using his magic ring forged in Mt Doom. For this, he was suspended.
I love this quote from the kid’s father:
“I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence,” he added. “If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back.”
How can it be, in the US in 2015, that a father finds himself having to make this argument in defense of his son? Is Gohmert’s home town Kermit, TX, by any chance?
Anyway, thanks so much for this thread. You lizards have made my evening — much better to watch the Superbowl through your eyes than on the teevee machine.

This is really why we need to get rid of the zero tolerance stuff and look at context. Was it wrong of this boy to threaten his classmate? Sure but terroristic threats. Are you shitting me?

Congrats Masshole. (stolen from you, don’t forget)
And damn proud of it. I suffered through years of the Patriots and the Red Sox sucking big time. (my parents lived their entire lives without seeing the Sox win a World Series.)
Grew up during the Celtics heydays, Russell, Sanders, the Jones Boys (Sam lived in my hometown and used to give us rides into Boston when we had missed the train) and all the rest. They (and, often the Bruins) were the only bright lights in Boston sports. Well remember going to the Garden to see the Celts (13,909 was the seating capacity then) and lighting up a cigarello (closest I came to a cigar) when Red Auerbach lit up after a win. Ah, sweet memories…
