In some ways our society has moved to the left but as Newton would tell you, for each reaction there is an equal reaction. I know he meant in a purely scientific context but I think it can be accounted for ideology too. Nixon was considered a right winger when my father was a young man. Today Nixon would be a centrist or even liberal.

Funny the clip should single out cows. Cows - dairy cows to be exact - are one good reason farmers don’t like Daylight Saving. They expect to be milked at a particular time, and not having watches, they don’t care what time it says on the farmer’s clock. Result: farmer has to get up an hour earlier. Like, 4:00am earlier.

Italy does “Summer Time”, Mar 29.
19 | HappyWarrior Mar 9, 2015 2:24:14pm |
Paradoxically for me given I enjoy warm weather, DSL is most enjoyable in the fall with the extra hour of sleep gained but at the same time knowing that winter is near. DSL in the spring meanwhile is less so given the loss of an hour of sleep but also knowing spring is around the corner. With my niece’s birthday though being eight days before the first day of Spring, I got a new reason for it and I always had St. Patrick’s Day before too.

Well. The farmer gets up an hour later on the transition to DST. Because if the cows had been getting milked at 4am, now the cows want to be milked at 5am.
But the farmer gets screwed when we go back to standard time, because that 5am turns back into 4am.

Here’s the answer - quantitative thinking.
We want “12” to be when the sun is high. Otherwise we’d have to do subtraction.

I love Daylight Savings Time.
Years ago, when I worked at a law office in Los Angeles, we had a volleyball team that on Wednesdays after work would head down to the beach and play other law offices (“suck on this, firm that beat us on that motion yesterday!!”). Six firms, six teams, we had time for a round robin before the sun went down, the 3 losing teams had to buy everyone dinner after (with drinks) and losingest team had to bring the beer next week.
Loads of fun, also a good opportunity for secretaries and paralegals to wear skimpy clothing, prove our flexibility and endurance, and catch ourselves some young associates from a bigger pool than could be found at any one firm. At least 3 marriages came out of The Asbestos League.

Today’s example:

From his own website:
Yes I did say that homosexuals do not have the right to be served in every store, just as I do not believe that I, my family, or anyone else have the right to be served in every private business. The right to provide services should be the decision of the business owners. We need to keep our country free and stop this radical, intolerant, movement.

Why not directly “neo-fascists”?
Primarily because their idealized economics differ. Neo Reactionaries are into Libertarian / Anarcho Capitalist / Austrian School laissez faire dumbshittery, whereas the historical, actual, real world Nazi’s embraced too many inconvenient command economy measures.
What’s weird is that they want a state, they just want it to be a monarchy / feudalistic one and not a democracy, not elected. How they reconcile this with their free market economies remains a mystery. They want a strong, unelected government that controls everything from foreign policy to gender roles in society, but that magically doesn’t have Nazi Germany’s labor, wage and price controls.

Unfortunately, they’re going to just revise history. You know how you see them try to act like because of the racist dixiecrats that the Democrats were in fact the real racists. Nevermind that Nixon and Reagan pandered to them, nevermind that LBJ did more for civil rights than any president since Lincoln, etc. They’re going to keep on revising. If I’ve learned one thing about the ideology of conservatism, it’s how conservatism can never be wrong, it can only be wronged. Conservatism in this country will continue to be fucked unfortunately I think as long as you and I are both alive because it’s showing no signs of positive evolving as an ideology. The bigger difference is between rural and urban than between Dem & Republican when it comes to guns. The bigger the community you live in, the less you like private gun ownership.

You’re right about that. My mom’s side of the family is much more rural in background and more inclined towards gun ownership than my dad’s more urban in background towards gun ownership. It’s still unusual though. I mean guns are a big part of the culture in WV. I live right near the Va-Wv border. I am relieved he said it honestly because frankly guns are sex objects to many people. I am not talking about people like yourself or RWC but people who feel the need to have the gun anywhere, anytime, anyplace, etc.

I hated my brother for years. I really think moving to adulthood helped us. He’s still a little obnoxious- borrows people’s crap without permission and he can come off a little self-righteous but he’s matured a lot and I’ll grant that I had to grow up too. But where I’m most proud of him is seeing him as both a father and husband and also now as a student. He’s really researching hard the program he wants to get into and I laud him for wanting to find a field that will both interest him and allow him to give him and his family a nice life. We had a good laugh last night. Me, him, his wife, and our other brother were looking through an old yearbook and he noticed my doodles on him and his friends and wanted to know what was up with that. It’s funny to see aspects of the boy I hated but I adore in his little girl. Can’t believe she’s going to be one on Friday.

It’s funny that we can laugh about some of the stuff now since him and I had some bad fights. But as I said we’re both grown up now and there really is respect now. Plus, getting older has really lessened the age gap. 3 years in your mid 20’s feels a lot smaller than it does at 13 and 10. Hell given that he has a wife and kid, I’ve even had parents of my other brother’s friends assume that he’s the older one. We’re still obviously two different people but I am glad that I can call him a friend and brother whereas in the past I really disliked him and vice versa.

Been after that video a while. It’s gonna clip into a hummingbird short with a lot more stills (aerial combat) if I ever pull the material into a good through line. A few more weekends maybe.
I tried to stay with the dominant male hummingbird in aerial combat with the other male birds with my telephoto. Fuggedaboutit. No human ever born has reflexes and an eye that fast at 400mm. Woulda made Bruce Lee cry. Easy with a wide angle but they are so tiny!

I’d think he would consider that some of those people voted for him and the Rs? Of course not. Gov Douchebag at work:
“As states across the country are moving to expand Medicaid coverage to additional low-income people under the Affordable Care Act, lawmakers in Arizona want to take the opposite approach.
“On Friday, Gov. Doug Ducey (R) approved a measure that seeks to tighten the state requirements for Medicaid eligibility, ultimately limiting public health insurance to fewer residents. The legislation proposes requiring the program’s recipients to be employed in order to qualify for assistance and kicking them out of the program after they’ve been enrolled for five years.
“A nearly identical bill was vetoed last year by former Gov. Jan Brewer (R) — one of the Republican leaders who bucked her party and embraced Obamacare’s optional Medicaid expansion when she was in office. In 2014, Brewer estimated that a five-year limit on Medicaid benefits would drop nearly 213,000 adults and 253,500 children from the rolls. She said that, since all of those newly uninsured people would end up seeking uncompensated care at hospitals without any insurance to pick up the tab, Arizona’s health care system would be pushed to “the breaking point.” More

Good evening Lizards!
Down in Pensacola this evening after some extended driving yesterday.
Left Florence, SC yesterday morning and spent most of the day around Savannah (Skidaway Island, Fort Pulaski, Tybee Island) and then did most of the driving from there down to Jacksonville and east to Talahassee to stop for the night.
Today was a roundabout drive to Pensacola via the coastal roads and stopping to walk the beach on Santa Rosa Island. 72F out and some sun as the rain has held off so far. Then into Pensacola to see a lighthouse and some other things. Saving the National Naval Aviation Museum for tomorrow or the day after. And also going over to Mobile as well.
Off to go eat Vietnamese food since we have a hankering for Pho.

Probably not, but CCJ is getting desperate. He’s alienated an absolute shitload of erstwhile allies and as such it’s probably getting harder and harder to maintain the grift.
He’s painted himself into the fringiest, darkest and most unstable corner of the Tea Party right. It started when nobody would hire him anymore, he’d proved unstable enough that no right wing publications would hire him anymore. That forced him into an association with Joel Gilbert and thus came the attendant need to support his insane theory about Obama’s real father being Frank Marshall Davis. Then attacking Holly Fisher and (especially) the war with Dana Loesch cut him off from much of the traditional TP fundraising network.
Now he’s being actively shunned by almost all the big players. It’s quite telling that his trip to CPAC produced almost no established names willing to be seen or photographed with him. He’s officially become a toxic pariah now, and so must seek out association with the most racist, batshit crazy and marginalized elements like the Neo Reactionaries, Unz, and VDARE.

I have been reading some of the comments here today, and all I can say is what political fiction drama are we in right now?
The last few weeks are just out of control.
I don’t think just a few months ago at election time anyone would have thought the GOP would be this absolutely loony. No one is in control of the party in control. You get first time Senators grandstanding with shutdowns and international interference and know-nothing Representatives fighting Boehner for power in the house, but they band together to cheer a foreign prime minister invited as a political stunt.
And then through all of it the President is able to hold serve by having his remaining Democrat congressmen help save us from the Republicans and from themselves.
We get the 50 year anniversary of Selma and it too turns into a political statement with who did not show up and an opportunity for the internet to go stupid with the bigoted twitters and article comments. Meanwhile a few states over a group of frat rats are caught gleefully signing about lynchings and their lily white racist thinking. Let’s not forget the continued killings of unarmed men of color by police forces and the Ferguson findings.
Who the hell is writing this story? It is not at all clear.
If America can’t control itself it surly looses control of worldly situations at the same time. It makes you wonder about the real signals all this sends to the rest of the world. It can’t be good.

So, there has been a good response to the call for help for a fellow lizard, but I think we can use a bit more help.
