I honestly wish DoJ had the budget and political capital to do this to all police departments. Not juts Ferguson. There’s definitely a race problem with our nation’s police departments and anyone who denies that has their head in the clouds and that’s me being kind given I have relatives who are in denial about this.

Are the police getting worse about these issues? Is there something going on where they are getting pissed about being in the news and are being even more prickly.
To me, it seems to be an attitude problem in more ways than one. I get the feeling it is not going to improve and will get even more common until it is so out of hand there is a huge kickback and big reforms are called for.
I sure hope it becomes an issue next year in the elections. It damn well should be.

I think it’s probably honestly been this bad we’re seeing more of it due to more people having access to mobile devices that can record these sort of things. It does feel like it’s gotten worse though but as I said that could be because we’re seeing more of it than we ever have before.

I think that’s one element to the rise in these videos, but I think another has been the slow erosion of public trust in the police. Between the major shootings of the 90s and the post-9/11 jitters, we gave the cops a lot of latitude when it came to enforcing the law. But as both have worn off, and crime rates have continued to fall, it’s become virtually impossible to justify incidents like this. You can only see so many incidents when a cop attacks an unarmed suspect or shoots a guy who had nothing more dangerous than a cellphone in his hands before you realize that there’s something very seriously wrong with the way law enforcement operates in this country.

Violent Inkster arrest: Did officer plant evidence?
And yes, there is video.
The officer accused of this act has a history of falsifying police reports (he was previously kicked off another city’s force for this), and has had more than once charge of planting evidence.

That is my take. Add in the strident attitudes of the cops reactions to some of this crap and we have a huge problems. Think of the statements out of Ferguson, Cleveland and New York…the comments posted here from the cops forum that went cop-private.

Someone posted a couple pages down but a Pennsylvania cop was charged with murder for shooting and killing an unarmed 60 year old white guy. You’re right. It’s going to take white suburban middle class kids being shot for middle America to realize how big a problem this is.

And there’s always a rationalization. As I got at above, I have relatives who buy this crap. They just won’t listen when I point out that police were able to get Alex Holmes the Aurora shooter alive or the younger Tsaraniev brother. The answer is always the same- “Oh the police have a stressful job” and “You need to listen to a police officer when he tells you to do something.” Definitely words of someone who has never been racially profiled by the police.

Once you start driving and realize at least one out of ten times you leave the house you’re going to get pulled over—never anything violent of course, or even threatening, but just constant chickenshit harassment—then the thought of calling the cops in the event of any trouble just never occurs to you. Please, NOT Detroit police. Inkster police, one of the older inner suburbs. The cop who planted the evidence was fired by the Detroit PD for similar behavior.
Black auto workers moved to Inkster in the senior Ford’s day because they weren’t allowed to live in Dearborn, where the Ford plant was.
And I find it odd that all the cops were white. Look at the racial breakdown of the city: 20.5% White, 73.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.6% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 3.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.6% of the population.
Another Ferguson?

Ain’t she a peach.
The “constitutional conservative” best known for her efforts to create state militias and close public meetings is hoping this year to boost protections in the future for detention officers who find themselves in hot water.
Like, say, her son-in-law.
Last year, then-Navajo County Supervisor Allen tried to interfere with an internal investigation into her son-in-law’s conduct with female inmates in the Navajo County jail.
This year, Allen has moved on to the state Senate where she sponsored a bill aimed at ensuring that others don’t have to endure what she sees as a witch hunt against her son-in-law.
“I just did not know what to do to help,” she recently told the Senate Public Safety, Military and Technology Committee, which approved a watered-down version of her bill after she read a letter from her daughter about the family’s ordeal. “There was no way to help. It was hard watching.”

Bank robber that killed State Trooper Trevor Casper has ties to skinheads.
Who is the man who shot Trooper Casper? What was he doing in Wisconsin?
Snyder was a master cement mason with his own business in suburban Detroit. But in 1996, Snyder was arrested in Fond du Lac after a bloody brawl between a group of “Skinheads” and another group of “Blacks and Hispanics.” According to a criminal complaint from the case, the two groups pulled out pipes and baseball bats and started swinging. When officers arrived, they scattered. But the officers caught what documents describe as one of the Skinheads — then 19-year-old Snyder. He had several white power tattoos and a coat filled with small, printed cards promoting the “National Alliance,” a white supremacist group. Another young man from Fond du Lac was later caught and arrested, carrying a card with the words, “FDL Boot Boys” and a Celtic cross.

Why is this still happening in America?
Because authoritarian violence against black people is foundational to America. Half of the country was explicitely founded on white supremacy, and we killed an awful lot of people trying to (unsuccesfully) root it out. It is baked into our national DNA, and I do not know if there is any remedy for it.
The fact that police violence has increasingly begun to include white men and women is partly why more attention is being paid to this issue.

Here’s a idea that got funded fast. I’m kind of admiring but also worried:
Group raises $50K overnight for commercial flamethrower (VIDEO)
The XM42 is the world’s first commercial flamethrower. Or rather, it will be. Overnight the XM42 received the crowdfunding it needed to go from concept to production and has been completely funded and then some.
Developed by the Ion Production Team, the XM42 flamethrower is a fresh design built from the ground up for flame-throwing. An original design, the XM42 isn’t a bunch of parts from the hardware store that have been re-purposed. Your average backyard project flamethrowers have drawbacks, not being built using components intended for mixing with fire, and can have limited lifespans — or worse, pose a danger to the user and their surroundings.
The XM42 won’t have those drawbacks. It will be be a modern flamethrower with safety and functionality primary concerns along with longevity and portability in mind.
SNIP
With its stainless steel and brushed aluminum construction, the XM42’s looks alone have made it a swift seller. The crowdfunding campaign started on March 24 and has already exceeded it’s goal of raising $40,000. People interested in picking up one of the flamethrowers from the first run have about a month left in the campaign to order one.
The article has the production group’s video, but in my mind this idea calls for some Fallout Boy:

Scott Walker Saves More Money For Menard
And then there’s this tale of free market capitalism.
The most infamous casualty of this policy was Eldon Helget, a lumber yard manager for Menards’ Burnsville, Minn., store. Helget’s daughter was confined to a wheelchair and the narrow hallways in the Helget home made it difficult to get around. She was getting too big for her mother Linda to carry her up the stairs, and because the bathroom couldn’t accommodate her wheelchair, the girl had no privacy. When the Helgets could find no home that met their needs, they decided to build from scratch. But Helget’s boss, Larry Menard, said there were no exceptions to the company rule. Helget, who had a stellar 13-year record with the company, could resign his post and take a lower-level job, Larry said. That meant a $15,000 cut in his $40,000 salary, but Helget still agreed. The Helgets hired a contractor to build a ramp-equipped home, using building materials from another company. When John Menard heard about the deal, he fired Helget. The company notified Helget that if he ever showed up on its property again, he’d be arrested for trespassing.

What fuck is wrong with people? Yeah this is exactly why I am not exactly enamored with the business community and believing that the private sector always knows best.

And in the “Non-GOP Horseshit” column for tonight we’ve got this gem:
You used your fiance’s position to direct contracts to your business and are now getting investigated about it by the FBI. Yeah lady, you’re exactly like a starstruck young intern.

To be fair: Menard’s also has stores in Illinois as well and has often gotten tax breaks in order to open new locations. So what Walker has done isn’t out-of-the-ordinary by any means. john Menard however, seems to be very much the controlling type.

I guess Donald Trump won’t be getting a Christmas card from Farah this year then. Not surprised at all Farah’s all in for Cruz given their similar twisted religious views.

He is going to be a formidable candidate. More importantly, he’s a breath of fresh air for giving Americans hope again - the kind of hope we haven’t had since Ronald Reagan was articulating his vision of national renewal.
IOW, Cruz is a stupid person’s idea of a great president.

It’s always been there. “Fuck the Police” was not an urban fairy tale. But it always got blown off. No one was listening to the black community, or they threw out the “black people are violent so they’re getting arrested for a reason and they need a beating when they resist.” Horseshit. I do not know a single black man, whether a 15 year-old kid or a CEO, who has not had to deal with the police and racial profiling.
People did not listen to the black community. Now, it’s coming out on video. They were telling the truth. But it’s endemic now. I am not saying all cops are bad, not by a long shot. But the ones who are have acted with impunity for so long that they’re entrenched.
So, I’d ask:
1. Why was the black community ignored or dismissed?
2. What are we going to do about these shit cops to get them out of law enforcement? Hint: fire them.
3. What does the police recommend to clean up their own houses?
4. Is what they recommend really going to make a difference, or are we so far off from reality that they are not capable of turning these issues around?
5. Why is the culture protecting bad cops instead of good cops feeling empowered to speak out without fear of retribution?
6. If someone is so afraid of getting killed or shot on the job, are they really fit to be a police officer? Maybe it’s time to find a new line of work or a different role in law enforcement?
7. Are we investing in our police departments in the most effective way? Hint: Tanks bad, community policing good.
I want to be careful…there are so many good, solid police departments that do not have these issues. But the ones that do have to be picked apart and torn apart and rebuilt and we have to have the intestinal fortitude to force it to happen.
