A year later, he moved to a union company, passed his lineman’s exam, and we now pay more in federal taxes each year than we ever had for actual gross annual income each year during the Bush Administration.
And we are NOT COMPLAINING.

Our city council voted today on whether to oppose seismic testing and offshore drilling. Vote was 6-1 to oppose. YAY. The only one who voted for it was the guy who was quoting American Petroleum Institute push polls and bogus research like crazy, and who I was arguing with all last week via email. Small victories.
Our city council voted today on whether to oppose seismic testing and offshore drilling today. Vote was 6-1 to oppose. YAY. The only one who voted for it was the guy who was quoting American Petroleum Institute push polls and bogus research like crazy, and who I was arguing with all last week via email. When 20-year-old Gilbert Phelps was pulled over in Iowa City last week for allegedly speeding and having an obstructed registration sticker, Iowa City Police Department Officer Ben Hektoen detected an odor of “ingested alcohol” inside the suspect’s Toyota Camry. When questioned, Phelps copped to smoking marijuana before getting behind the wheel and later failed field-sobriety tests. Although a breathalyzer test turned up nothing, it was concluded that Phelps was under the influence of cannabis and not fit to operate a motor vehicle.
After Phelps was brought into the police station for testing, however, I’m not sure who the better sport was about the whole thing, as Phelps decided to capture the moment for posterity with a Snapchat selfie, which Officer Hektoen “happily obliged” to. The 20-year-old told the officer that he captioned the photo with emoji icons showing “a police car, next to a passenger car, next to a tow truck.”

Reminds me of the cat, Alpo, that lived with my brothers for a time.
One day it just showed up, and they started feeding it.
It would hang out a few days, then disappear for a few.
After a couple years of this their upstairs neighbor was walking by, as the cat was hanging out with them at their open front door, and said “my cat isn’t bothering you, is he?”

And just about every coastal city/town has come out against it, as well as some upstate areas. Our town was one of the last in the state to finally pass a resolution.

I was amazed that anyone would vote for Bush’s reelection.

I assume a lot of the pushback is because no one wants to swim in an oily beach and that would be bad for the business interests that I imagine are huge in your town. I love swimming in the ocean too but protecting our oceans shouldn’t just be a principle so we can keep on enjoying swimming in our oceans but also so future generations can enjoy it and also protect the sea life there.
