Fox News Suspends Two Commentators for Crude Anti-Obama Rhetoric On-Air

Why bother?
Media • Views: 52,259

The only difference between what Peters and Dash said and Fox News’ normal fare is the crude language. In every other respect, this is absolutely standard Fox News rhetoric: Fox News suspends two commentators for profanity while criticizing Obama.

It’s just one more indicator of how debased and extreme the right wing media have become. They suspend these two, but it’s wink-wink nudge-nudge when Fox commentator Eric Bolling makes blatantly racist comments like, “Obama’s chugging 40s” and “inviting hoods to the hizzouse.”

Ralph Peters, a Fox News “strategic analyst,” called the president a “total pu—-” who “doesn’t want to hurt our enemies.”

A couple of hours later Stacey Dash, a Fox contributor, said the president “didn’t give a sh—” about Sunday night’s terrorism speech.

“Earlier today, Fox contributors Lt. Col. Ralph Peters and Stacey Dash made comments on different programs that were completely inappropriate and unacceptable for our air,” Fox senior executive vice president Bill Shine said.

“Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel do not condone the use of such language, and have suspended both Peters and Dash for two weeks,” he said.

Notice they were SUSPENDED, not fired.

Two weeks? For language inappropriate? How about for blatant disrpespect for the Presidency?

“We don’t disagree with the substance of what they said, but the words they used were over the line.”

Dare we hope that they see Hillary leading every Republican in nearly every poll, and Obama’s approval rating turning positive, and realizing that they’ve backed themselves into a corner?

No, of course not. But they still can’t openly declare themselves White Christian Supremacist News yet. That’s a good thing even if they’re getting respect they haven’t earned.

That only applies during a GOP presidency, and only in times when the GOP president is severely conservative.

Meanwhile, Carrie Fisher is awesome:

she replied to journalist Michael Calia’s observation that “There’s been some debate recently about whether there should be no more merchandise with you in the ‘Return of the Jedi’ bikini” with a terse, “I think that’s stupid.” She added, The father who flipped out about it, ‘What am I going to tell my kid about why she’s in that outfit?’ Tell them that a giant slug captured me and forced me to wear that stupid outfit, and then I killed him because I didn’t like it. And then I took it off. Backstage.”

And it’s not like they need to as this was on cable, where such stuff is allowed. Had this been OTA, that would have been a different story.

And, I hope everyone realizes, Fox News does NOT have a Free-to-Air Nationwide News broadcast, unlike NBC, CBS, or ABC. That way, they can’t get an FCC license pulled as there is no way they’d ever allow their likes of Hannity, O’Reilley, etc. to ever hit the public airwaves, even at zero-dark-thirty.

I wonder if Republicans even accept the basic premise that there are some problems that are really hard to solve and may not have a nice tidy answer.

That sort of requires you to think about the problem from several angles. I’m thinking they might actually not. They may actually not accept the premise that some problems cannot be solved simply or easily.

That sort of requires you to think about the problem from several angles. I’m thinking they might actually not. They may actually not accept the premise that some problems cannot be solved simply or easily.

Conservatism today is all about binary thinking, and that encourages the belief in, and expectation of simple answers.

For example, “What does ISIS want?”

A reasonable answer points to the their desire to have Western societies isolate and alienate their Muslim populations, so that those Muslims turn to ISIS, and to that end they employ terror to encourage us to hate and fear all Muslims.

The Conservative answer is, “To kill us!”

So how do you deal with ISIS?

A reasonable answer is to attack them militarily where you can do so cleanly to avoid civilian casualties; to utilize whatever intelligence capabilities you have to catch terror plots before they can be put into action; and to make sure Muslim populations in the West and elsewhere see us as a friend, not an enemy.

The Conservative answer is, “Carpet bomb them! Send in the ground troops! Stop worrying so much about civilian casualties! KILL! KILL! KILL!!!” with no memory of how well that worked for us before, and no thought to what people whose families we’ve just killed might want to do to us on that account.

Hmmm…next, will Trump call for national ID Cards based on religion? Similar to ID cards common in some Muslim countries? How is one supposed to know if one is Muslim or not upon entering the country?

These people do not want “freedom” in the traditional American sense. They want their own exclusive Christian Theocracy complete with easily identifiable
Indicators like an ID card system of someone’s personal beliefs. In other words, they want their own Christian Saudi Arabia.
