Planned Parenthood Attack Suspect: “I Am a Warrior for the Babies”

The red right hand of anti-choice extremism
US News • Views: 50,541

OK, right wing bloggers. You can stop trying to pretend the attack on the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood office was anything other than right wing Christian terrorism now: Planned Parenthood Attack Suspect: ‘I Am Guilty’.

“I am guilty there will be no trial. I am a warrior for the babies,” he said in an outburst in El Paso County court overheard by CBS4 reporter Rick Sallinger.

And again, I’ll just point out that the rabid incitement coming from every right wing journalist and conservative politician is partly to blame for stirring up lunatics like this to the point where they go on murder sprees. No, the pundits and pols didn’t actually kill anyone, but they created a climate of extremism very deliberately and very determinedly — and they’re still doing it.

Umm, isn’t Sharia law something that a Muslim would choose to live by in his or her personal life, kind of like observant Jews live under Jewish law insofar as it does not violate American law?

Why would they renounce it?

Sharia Law means, public beheadings, stoning adulteresses and no Christmas, just slaughtering animals on the front porch for Eid

Perhaps self-radicalization by some Christians in the US will be treated similarly to self-radicalization by some Muslims in the US.

Certainly any remedy implemented for Islamist radicalization should also be implemented for Christianist radicalization.

Like that will ever happen.

In the National Abortion Federation case, the judge denied David Daleiden’s motion to stay discovery yesterday. Nothing is going Daleiden’s way, and that means Chuck C. Johnson’s deposition is almost certainly not going to be blocked either.

Reposted from (just) downstairs:

Just been watching The Trad Awards (Scottish folkie music awards) on BBC Alba via iPlayer, (This took place a couple of days ago in Dundee’s Caird Hall.) and the Album of the Year awards was presented by a stuffy looking record company person who, before presenting the award, basically said “Well, I’ve been told I can’t take too long, so.. REFUGEES ARE WELCOME IN SCOTLAND!” Cue massive applause. Wow.

Trump was quoted as saying he loved the Middle East and the people there.

“I have many friends who are Muslims,” Trump said, according to CNN. “They’re phenomenal people. They are so happy at what I’m doing.”

I don’t mean this as an attack on religion in general, but at what point should we consider fanatical religiosity to be a sign of mental illness in and of itself? At the end of the day, what separates someone who truly believes they’re acting in God’s will and someone who is acting at the behest of voices in their head?

This quote from Voltaire keeps jumping into my head these days - “Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.”

Not that I’ve heard. I think it is an in-your-face move by the GOP, though. SOTU is 1/12, their “new” debate in 1/14, our state Dem big dinner in 1/16 and our long-planned Dem debate is 1/17—all (except the SOTU) to be held in Charleston.

Dems decided to do Charleston partly in memory of those killed at the Mother Emanuel church massacre (which, of course, was just a troubled youth, lone wolf incident). Republicans, I’m sure, chose Charleston just to be their usual assholier than thou selves.

For perspective, 1000 rounds of ammunition isn’t an ideologically meaningful amount. The packaging differs for various calibres, but the most efficient buys are often in 250-1200 round lots. The stuff stores well for decades, and maintaining minimum proficiency requires a couple hundred rounds/year.

Huckabee: And that’s what we need to do is amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than trying to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family.

Santorum: “our civil laws have to comport with a higher law: God’s law.”

Palin (of course): “Go back to what our founders and our founding documents meant — they’re quite clear — that we would create law based on the God of the bible and the Ten Commandments.”

Ben Carson: Does the Bible have authority over the Constitution?”
“I think probably what you have to do is ask a very specific question about a specific passage of the Bible and a specific portion of the Constitution,” Carson said. “I don’t think you can answer that question other than out of very specific context.”

Ted Cruz: We can turn our country around, but only if the body of Christ rises up.”

A Public Policy Polling (PPP) national survey conducted between February 20th and February 22nd of Republican voters, found that an astonishing 57 percent of Republicans want to dismantle the Constitution, and establish Christianity as the official national religion.

Scalia says the blahs can’t make it at top universities.
talkingpointsmemo.com

And that idiot Clarence Thomas probably is in full agreement. It would be so nice if Scalia would retire as soon as Secretary Clinton becomes President so he can be replaced with someone sensible.

OT, but something you just don’t see every day…or pretty much ever.

That happen right next to our car one time as my wife was walking out to get in it to go to work. the shock wave just about knocked her down and it took a while before either one of us could hear good. Scared the piss out of both of us.

Oh, and another threat against a mosque - this one in Jersey City:

more:

A California state worker was caught on video making anti-Islamic slurs and then throwing coffee and an umbrella at a group of Muslim men who had been praying at San Francisco Bay Area park

how many days till American Kristallnacht?

I hope it won’t be, but… Before this year is out?

re: #94 Testy Toad T

The hypothetical phrase “ideological amount of ammunition” is one of the most terrifying things I can imagine to have ever read.

I feel ya’, but I don’t want us to hypnotize ourselves over that number. It really doesn’t have any social/political/psychological import. 1000 rounds in storage is more likely to be hobby economics than murderous intent. If we were to rebuild the various gun atrocities of the last years, we would probably find that the bad guys don’t fire 100 times.

re: #95 freetoken

The much discussed Overton Window has never been so stretched.

Rachel Maddow had an excellent segment on the Overton Window last night.

msnbc.com

Highlights:

The idea of the Overton Window is that there`s a fairly narrow window
of proposals in any particular policy area that people will take seriously
that wouldn`t get you written off as a kook. The way to move or expand
that window is to advocate super extreme positions which change the realm
of what`s politically possible because after something super nuts has been
floated, thereafter, slightly less nuts positions will start to look
acceptable and moderate by comparison.

And you may never have heard of Joseph Overton and his proverbial
window but you most certainly have heard the Republican presidential
campaign this year not just flinging the window open but shattering all its
glass…

The idea of the Overton Window of using people on the political fringe
to change the terms of acceptable debate, that`s an idea that`s been hugely
influential in conservative politics since Joseph P. Overton thought it up,
making radical ideas seem acceptable by advocating for the unthinkable.

What`s new is using not some figure of the fringe, not some higher
vanguard of crusaders to do this on purpose. What`s new is having this
done by your party`s prohibitive presidential front-runner.

What`s going to be the new normal in the Republican Party in terms of
minority bashing politics when this campaign is all done?

The sad fact is that that guy is more likely to put the gun to his own head than use it on anyone else. White males from the inter mountain west are by far and away the worst offenders. 2/3rds of firearm deaths are by suicide. Not terrorism. Not home intrusion. Not even gangsters can keep up with suicide.

Part of the reason I don’t own pistols. Makes suicide way too easy and I’m a depressive personality as it is. I see it as a preventative measure.

OT already, sorry…

Of course Muslims in Congress wouldn’t “renounce” Sharia; just as Jews wouldn’t renounce Halakha. I’m pretty sure he knows this full well, but it’s prejudicial and a good subject for scaremongering among people who haven’t the faintest idea what Shariah (or Halakha for that matter) encompasses.
