Breitbart Commenters Cheer Probable Christmas Day Arson Attack on Houston Mosque

“The best Christmas present of all”
Wingnuts • Views: 58,815

On Christmas Day, a fire broke out at a mosque in southwest Houston, and the ATF has now confirmed it’s a probable case of arson. This is apparently the latest in a string of anti-Muslim hate crimes since the San Bernardino attack.

HOUSTON - An ATF spokesperson has confirmed the cause of a two-alarm fire at a southwest Houston mosque does appear to be suspicious, because the fire had multiple points of origin.

Investigators said they are looking through surveillance video to see if cameras captured a potential suspect.

At the far right website Andrew built, Breitbart “News,” this is a front page article today — and as usual, the right wing commenters are spewing toxic hate speech and ugly bigotry, alternating between applauding the attack and saying the Muslims who attend the mosque did it themselves.

Here’s a selection of their comments, to document what’s going on during Christmas season at one of the most popular conservative websites. I’ve hidden them by default, because they’re absolutely vile. There are now over a thousand comments in this vein.

Lesson to learn from this: do not roast goat in middle of floor

[…]

They don’t have a kitchen which might start a fire… Did anybody check their bomb/clock production room?

[…]

Almost every single “hate crime” turns out to be a hoax, yet I know of none of the hoaxers ever being prosecuted. Instead, they get even more sympathy. When this turns out to be another hoax, the prosecution should be immediate deportation back to the sand pile.

[…]

Don’t worry…when President Trump takes over, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

[…]

Let them burn, they are scum.

[…]

All mosques should burn.

[…]

Muslims are garbage

[…]

Merry Christmas to the Elves that did the deed

[…]

Maybe the smoke will kill the roaches.

[…]

Either that or a camel kicked over the ash tray containing the lit post-coital cigarette her partner was smoking.

[…]

Bulldozing and deporting would be better. Then we wouldn’t have to waste money doing the surveiliance.

[…]

About time Americans begin fighting back, our Government damn sure isn’t.

[…]

Good thing the Fire Department was able to put it out quickly we wouldn’t want any of their AK47’s or pipe bombs destroyed would we?

[…]

Ha! Should just let burn and have a weenie roast

[…]

Did anyone bring marshmallows? S’mores! Yum! :-)

[…]

Gun powder from the pipe bombs they were working on in the Mosque accidentally ignited.

[…]

And what do they expect will happen when they kill innocent people in this country?

[…]

well, good news for a change.

[…]

I bet the rags did this one themselves to try and gin up some sympathy.

[…]

Any time a Mosque burns down I am happy.

[…]

If the whole building was not destroyed, it was done by the moslems to raise sympathy.

Had some patriot done it, it would have been a better job.

[…]

They play with fire, they get fire.

[…]

The tragic part is no muslim was injured. That is a tragedy.

[…]

Yep, and there’s every good reason to completely demolish ALL mosques. Tear ALL of them down. BAN ALL Muslims from our country. ALL of this evilness must go!

[…]

Ban them. Any moneys and assets stay right here. Leave with the clothes on their backs. Don’t even allow them to leave with their wedding bands.

[…]

Achmed probably lit up a cigarette after a romp with his favorite sheep and fell asleep with it lit.

[…]

It’s the best Christmas present of all

[…]

Yep. We need to speed things up BIGTIME. ALL Muslims need to be BANNED from our country, and ALL mosques need to be completely demolished ALL THE WAY to the ground!

[…]

Can’t say it saddens me in anyway at all during this Christmas season.

[…]

I hope it’s a trend that catches on!

[…]

Burn them all down! !

[…]

If we make Mecca radioactive, we will rid ourselves of them.

[…]

ALL Muslims are murderers of the innocents, by COMMAND of the Quran. Burn this FOUL STENCH out of America. For 140 years this religion of murder has murdered every neighbor it has had, and then raped their daughters. “Death to Islam, or death to us all”, is the true reality.

Can’t you just feel the Christmas spirit?

It goes on and on like this, a seemingly endless deluge; and interspersed with these horrifying calls for violence are expressions of love and support for … you guessed it … Donald Trump. Trump has given these hateful knuckle-draggers free rein to express themselves.

Got up at 8 and got all my Christmas put away. Nope. I don’t mess around. I don’t want to be putting stuff away with a hangover from New Year’s Eve.

Now I get to go shopping. Woohoo. Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Have a great day!

I’d do that too if it were just me, but we traditionally keep things up until New Year’s Day and I think Mr. C. would secretly be disappointed if we put stuff away early. At least now that the kids are grown and gone we tuck a small tree into the corner rather than a bigger one in the middle of the living room.

It is a matter of self-identification. They identify with their nationality, race and religion. They have heard from numerous sources that Islam and Muslims are a threat to all and are responding to the threat the only way they can: through incoherent rage.

Just like many people view sports. I get supporting “your” team and having a good time-a better time if they win than if they lose. I don’t get beating up supporters of the other team, or rioting when your team wins or loses. It’s a stupid excuse.

The popularity polls will probably be pretty rare until the week before the next “debate”, on Jan 14. I fully expect that Trump will maintain his lead in the popularity polls right up till then.

Trump will be front and center on stage, with Cruz on his left and Rubio on his right. The rest of the gang probably shouldn’t even be there.

What will Trump to do demonstrate his superior-being-ness to Cruz and Rubio?

Rubio spends less time than Cruz or Paul on Capitol Hill, but the people who have met him there are much more likely to like him. And Trey Gowdy being from South Carolina makes the endorsement even more important, since its an early primary state.

Increasing anti-Muslim bigotry-turned-violent is not just happening here in the US:

Muslim prayer hall in Corsica vandalised after attacks on firemen

Demonstrators ransacked a Muslim prayer hall and attempted to burn copies of the Koran on the French island of Corsica Friday, police said, following a night of violence that left two firefighters injured.

Tensions had mounted in Ajaccio on Christmas Day after two firefighters and a police officer were wounded overnight in Jardins de L’Empereur, a low-income neighbourhood of the city when they were “ambushed” by “several hooded youths”, authorities said.

On Friday afternoon around 150 people had gathered in front of police headquarters in the island’s capital in a show of support for the police and firefighters, officials said in a statement.

But some in that crowd broke away to join as many as 600 who headed for the housing estate where the violence took place the night before.

They shouted slogans in Corsican meaning “Arabs get out!” or “This is our home!”, an AFP correspondent reported.

[…]

This is what gets conflated, on purpose in cases, here in the US by anti-Muslim bigots. While in Corsica it may be true that most Muslims are Arabs, that most certainly isn’t true around the world.

It’s becoming the fashion among those whose ‘conservatism’ consists mostly of spewing filth on Twitter to use ‘Muslim’ as a general-purpose slur:

Fury of the right falls on Ryan

Outside the Beltway, the right is livid with new Speaker Paul Ryan’s trillion-dollar spending deal with Democrats.

Conservative pundit Ann Coulter says Ryan, just seven weeks on the job, is ripe for a primary challenge. “Paul Ryan Betrays America,” blared a headline on the conservative site breibart.com. And Twitter is littered with references to the Wisconsin Republican’s new “Muslim beard.”

Coulter is full of crap, of course, and a credible primary challenge against Paul Ryan is unlikely, given that Members of Congress are still holding their fire and Freedom Partners is still fully supporting Speaker Ryan. But the “Muslim beard” thing has given Paul Ryan something in common with Barack Obama:

As Ryan and Obama were putting the final touches on the spending deal, the now-bearded Speaker told the president that some on the right have accused him of being a Muslim, Al Hunt recounted in a Bloomberg View column.

“The president, who has long faced the same absurd allegation, chuckled,” Hunt wrote.

re: #63 Backwoods_Sleuth

Well, I suppose you think CBS isn’t reliable either:
Marco Rubio: Paris Attacks, 9/11 Part Of God’s Plan

I think he said the following:

Speaking before supporters during a campaign stop in Iowa last week, the Republican presidential hopeful said he was asked previously where was God during the 9/11 attacks and the recent terror attacks in Paris. Rubio responded that God is where he always is - “on the throne in heaven.”

“The question was how could God allow these bad things to happen? It always challenges us to understand that God’s ways are not our ways,” Rubio said. “What we may interpret as bad, and most certainly is in the case of Paris or 9/11, even that is part of a broader plan for the universe and for our lives that we’re just not going to know the answer to. God’s ways are not our ways.”

Rubio told the crowd that people may not understand why God allows pain into their lives, but that it’s just all part of his plan.

“Sometimes God does allow pain into our lives for reasons that we don’t understand, that we resent, that we get angry about, but it’s for a reason that one day it will make sense, just not now, and that’s where faith comes in,” the Florida senator said. “You are allowed to believe that we are the children of an all-powerful God, that everything that happens is part of his plan and that our job is to be partners and cooperate in his plan for our life.”

What Sen. Rubio said was entirely within the Christian tradition and not in my mind problematic. I’ve got get going, so I’ll leave you with a Bible quote:

Amos 3:6: Shall the trumpet be blown in a city, and the people not be afraid? Shall evil befall a city, and Jehovah hath not done it?

Why, on a cold and wintry night on February 1st, will any Iowan want to venture out into the snow and ice to go stand in a room, clustered around a pole with some candidate’s name on it?

It’s all very quaint and all, but there has to be a better way for a democracy to pick its leaders.

Google has the capability, through Google Hangouts, to host thousands of people simultaneously, livestreaming video interactions.

Sure, some of the more rural in Iowa will not have good internet connection, but most of those folk turning out on 1 Feb probably do have decent internet connections.

The Banks and Credit Card companies have long figured out how to do secure procurements online.

It seems like the political parties could host real time, online digital caucuses - call them iCaucus if one needs a catchy name - where many more people could “gather” electronically, and where secure votes could be cast.

There are a lot of things in the Christian tradition that can be problematic if they are taken out of context and used to foster an idiotic approach to national security.

No, like every other Republican, they see it as a good thing to persecute Muslims.

I have yet to see a Republican risk themselves or there career, and speak out against the bigotry. Not even my friend in DC. She will not say anything publicly.

She has said how much she hates Trump, and will refuse to vote for him. She has also tried to get me to be more compromising, saying she like many of my ideas, and wishes I could give up the past, saying I could be good for the country.

I still can’t see Republicans, most of the time, as human, so that may be a while.

The real question now is: if given the chance would Christie name a Muslim to any political posts or judicial posts in New Jersey from now until he is either the GOP candidate or drops out of the running?

Anyone for a guess?

Odd El Nino we’re having here in California. It must be dropping a very dry rain because there’s a 1200 acre brush fire burning along the Ventura coast as I type.

I always thought an El Nino was supposed to bring rain, not fire.

Next Rubio quote from the same article:

“I hope that our next president is someone that relies deeply in their faith. The job is so great that no mere mortal has enough wisdom on their own to confront the challenges and the responsibilities that are put upon the leader of the free world, and so most certainly I hope we have our next president as someone infused by the spirit, who seeks always the guidance of our creator in all decisions,” he said.

This ingrown political religion that candidates use to sell themselves—we need piety…hey! I’m pious—is why this stuff is creepy and gross because there’s such an obvious bending of the world, a cosmic shootist’s fallacy. God has a plan, but the hegemons of wingnut-dom get to read the entrails, tea leaves, and clouds to tell you how any event fits into it: coincidentally, it’s that those preachers and politicians get more power, and use that power to make other people comply. Also, bomb Iran.

It’s also gross because in it’s construction—the next president will be pious—we see how exclusionary the political religion is. Because the only real “piety” is piety that is orthodox to their mishmash of political beliefs.

There was a time when CC seemed one of the more reasonable candidates: he was remarkably bipartisan in working with Obama on hurricane Sandy relief, stood up to islamophobes and did not seem to be ideologically hamstrung.

But his sanity is only relative.

Chris Christie is trying to appeal to a new crowd, so he’s altered his performance.

Now look at how he and the other GOP candidates use common rhetoric, and extrapolate what their anticipated “audience” wants.

Relative to the standard of “I want a new job and have to get votes to acquire it” Christy is…sane. But what is audience wants is…well, it’s not insane, but it is stupid and angry.

Snowpocalypse is on in Lubbock. No white stuff yet, but we do have 30-40 mph winds, solid, fast moving cloud cover, and rapidly falling temperatures (it was 55 2 hours ago, 31 now). First snowfall expected in an hour or so, 5-9 inches by morning.
The yokel media are naturally spreading fear, panic and click bait everywhere. I guess they expect avalanches to block the wagon trains which will then fall easy prey to marauding Comanches.
