It’s nice of the British Parliament to increase Trump’s poll numbers.

Right. It is the first step in breaking the divine right of kings, but really it was about sharing power with the nobles..

Week, as someone noted above, Mike Savage was banned from the UK, and he wasn’t a frontrunner for GOP Presidential candidate. I’m pretty sure the Phelps clan was banned too. (EDIT: Indeed he was.)
The thing to remember is that in those cases, it was the Home Office that decided the bans. In the context of this debate, it’s basically about a motion, in effect a statement of opinion by Members of Parliament, and there isn’t any specific legalisation or government decisions being debated. So in the end, it could be viewed as purely symbolic. However, if the weight of opinion, especially the vote, is clearly against Trump, then this would put pressure on the government.
I wonder how Trump would describe this Scottish lass talking about him?

The Pittsburgh-Denver NFL playoff game delivered massive ratings for CBS Sunday afternoon and into the first part of primetime, and the bump carried through the rest of the schedule. “60 Minutes” (4.7), “Madam Secretary” (2.0) and “The Good Wife” (1.3) all earned season highs among adults 18-49, pending updates…
A Democratic presidential primary debate on NBC drew a 1.9, pending updates, the same 18-49 rating as the Republican debate on Fox Business earlier in the week…
Note: Live telecasts on CBS (NFL playoffs) and NBC (Democratic primary debate) will likely result in greater adjustments than usual for those networks.

It is curious — why do wingnut graphics always look like a kaleidoscope exploded? It’s always three different fonts of four different colors, nothing in alignment with anything else. Its like an inadvertent projection of their disorganized thoughts. They subtly remind me of the hollywood-movie serial killer letters made of magazine clippings.
Yet, these headache-inducing graphics are how they choose to communicate and spread their ideas with each other. It seems, if you’re crazy enough, the disjointedness magically resolves and becomes easily decipherable.
Someone here posted one the other week that had a bunch of boxes within boxes and text everywhere in different orientations — I couldn’t look at it for more than 5 seconds.

the free trade/travel thing is always one of the strangest libertarian dichotomies. They believe in more local control (assuming that the further away the government is, the more tyrannical it will be) but also want to be able to freely pass between states. Personally, even though I have my libertarian leanings, I tend to think we are headed toward more supranational organizations (like the European Union and African Union) that will eventually over take local governments in power, and I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It seems that the smaller the government, the more prone to abuse it is… look no further than HOA’s.

There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, “When will you be satisfied?” We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the negro’s basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating: “For Whites Only.” We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until “justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

Refugees and immigrants are some of the hardest working people in this country, period.
So I’m going through these posts on Trump’s Facebook page… and his commenters which almost always seem to think he’s the greatest… and noticing that the very few critical (and honest) commenters quickly get shouted down just like at the rallies, for not being this or that…
And then it strikes me.
We’re doomed.
Not because Trump has supporters.
But because of what I see when I check out his supporters’ Facebook pages, and find that instead of heated screeds of virulent polemics I find mundane pics of cats, dogs, and other animals doing cute things and other banal bits of Americana.
And that most of American Facebook is like this.
If just 20% of Americans who post images of kittens doing the cute-kitten-thing go and vote for Trump, we’re doomed.

LOL, their source is Judicial Watch, which claims to be non-partisan, but was founded by wingnut extraordinaire and CDS sufferer Larry Klayman. From the IBD article:
The totals come from Judicial Watch, the dogged watchdog group that pursues such information through repeated Freedom of Information Act requests.
From Wikipedia:
Founded by conservative attorney Larry Klayman, Judicial Watch came to public attention after filing 18 lawsuits against the administration of Democratic U.S. President Bill Clinton and figures in the Clinton administration. An early lawsuit was filed by Judicial Watch on behalf of the Western Center for Journalism (WCJ) in 1998. The lawsuit alleged a retaliatory audit by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The WCJ was investigating the death of Clinton deputy White House counsel Vince Foster at the time.
Oh, and the Western Center for Journalism? That one was founded by one of the main promoters of President Obama conspiracy theories, Joseph Farah, in 1991. That would be six years before he founded WhirledNutsDaily (1997). People like Pamela Geller, Chuck Norris, Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, etc. regularly contribute to WND, and the people at the Western Center for Journalism are big Geller fans.
Sorry for the tl:dr comment, but as soon as you scratch the surface of an article making claims like that you quickly find yourself tumbling down the wingnut rabbit hole. It’s why I don’t trust the media anymore—too many “journalists” are either partisan activists intentionally misleading people or people too lazy and/or desperate for clickbait to bother checking their sources first.

If just 20% of Americans who post images of kittens doing the cute-kitten-thing go and vote for Trump, we’re doomed.
I’ve been saying for a while that I get the feeling this election is going to be about turnout and could envision a very low turnout election due to lack of enthusiasm on both sides. So I went looking at some polling to figure out if that might be true. Seems like the trend is that among primary voters in both parties there is a plurality that will support the eventual nominee (I’m assuming Clinton, Sanders, Trump, Cruz, Rubio will be the eventual nominees) without reservation; another sizable group of voters will support with reservation, somewhere between 8 and 15% will support because they’re the party’s nominee (why hello D_F), and an equal number will not support. So basically, at the moment, there’s no enthusiasm gap among primary voters - of course that can change.
But more surprising was the poll included a right track/wrong track question, with results going back to early 2003. What shocked me was that you have to go to April 2003 to find the last time a majority of Americans thought the country was on the right track. That really might explain a lot of our politics over the last decade.

Trump gets high marks from evangelicals, if not on theology
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump won glowing praise from a Christian evangelical leader in one of the nation’s biggest battleground states on Monday.
Jerry Falwell Jr., head of Virginia-based Liberty University, didn’t formally endorse the billionaire, who spoke at the school’s convocation, but his remarks went further than for any other candidate to speak there during this race.
“He cannot be bought. He’s not a puppet on a string like many other candidates,” said Falwell Jr., who said he met with three of Trump’s children this past week. “The American public is finally ready to elect a candidate who is not a career politician.”
Falwell Jr. even likened Trump to his father, the late Reverend Jerry Falwell, which the candidate called “an honor for me.” Falwell Sr., a politically influential evangelist, founded the “Moral Majority” that became a conservative force in the 1980s.

Sad news about Glenn Frey. 67 is too young…and too damn close to my own age at 61. Damn. I’ve never been a big Eagles/Frey fan but can appreciate where they and he fit in the music world. I remember hearing the first Eagles album over and over as the first album was released the month I graduated high school…June 1972. I can’t count how many times I heard the album in art college and in the neighborhood of art students I lived with in the mid 70s.

MSNBC dumped out after the pre-debate coverage and ran reruns of Tweety’s special blowjob of Trump while the debate was going on. Then they reran the debate at 11 ET after it ended live on NBC.
It’s remarkable how some people didn’t even know the debate was on over-the-air TV. I had a few friends say they thought it was just a YouTube stream that NBC was promoting.

I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that we live in a world where prostitution is illegal yet calling someone a “whore” is not considered defamation per se. Especially when stating that someone is involved in criminal activity or that one has engaged in sexual misconduct have traditionally been considered defamation per se.
Well when used as an insult like this, “whore” doesn’t really mean the same thing as “prostitute,” and neither the speaker or listeners think he is making a factual statement that she engages in sex acts for money.

You can train a rabbit to pee in a litterbox really easily. Rabbit poop, not so much. Not saying you can’t, but I was never successful. On the other hand, if said rabbit is kept off the valuable oriental rugs and such, the little pellets are dry and easy to sweep up.
A bigger problem with rabbits, is their tendency to enjoy stripping wallpaper, chewing electrical cords and pulling on interesting dangle-y things hanging in convenient places. You really need to bunny-proof wherever you’ll be keeping them.
That said, they can be great pets.

It simply is used for any woman someone (guys mainly?) just wants to hate on. We have become very generalized with our words. It’s a way to help keep the vocabulary low. In ways it is used like the ‘b’ and ‘c’ words for women.
In a way it is much like ‘gay’ or it’s ‘f’ word equivalent is used as a general hate descriptive for men many times.
Sadly so.

(Cut to reverse angle reveals he’s wearing a dingy buttondown shirt and poorly tied tie. He looks around to see whether he’s being observed, then surreptitiously reaches into the casket to remove her ring. It doesn’t come off easily, so he begins tugging harder.)
(Cut back to closer shot from back as his struggles increase. Other mourners begin to notice….)

Give Rage some credit here. Surely he would have brought pruning shears with him.
Chuck furiously tugs on the pearls around her neck. They won’t budge or break! He pulls harder and harder, grimacing and grunting furiously under his breath at the stubborn old broad and her damned jewelry that won’t come loose! The casket and her corpse begin to rock. The other mourners see him! He sees them seeing him! And he changes his angry cursing into pretend sobs when they walk up to him…
I see Chuck played by Zach Galifianakis.

There has to be a moment when the strand breaks and the pearls go flying, clattering to the floor all around the casket.
ETA: Blake Edwards would have done this one to a T.
Either that, or he sneaks back in when everyone has left and stands in her coffin with his foot on her corpse to pull them off, and when they come loose it’s in a big coffin-tipping crash and everyone rushes in to find him underneath dead meemaw on the floor…

Apparently Snyder or the wingnut media has decided that he’s gonna go the “incompetent” route for his defense, ala Bridgegate. “Yeah, I should have followed it up, but I didn’t and so the people who report to me are at fault, the Feds are at fault, the Democrats who got railroaded by the unelected city manager are at fault. In short, everybody else is at fault but myself, because I can’t be expected to walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone keep track of the potential health hazards my governance is inflicting on a city of 100,000.”
Not a bit surprising who got NBCs job, guess we can look forward to many more questions about hypothetical issues instead of real ones.
