Saturday Jam: Becca Stevens, “Weightless”
This video’s a few years old now, but I’m just catching up on Becca Stevens’ excellent music after discovering her through this Snarky Puppy video, and this song is amazing. This ain’t pop music, folks; Becca likes sophisticated, unexpected chord progressions and cadences, which makes her my kind of musician.

Lyrics & music by Becca StevensThere’s nothing like witnessing the moment
that a life lets loose and falls to the ground.
Weak autumn winds tip them,
easy,
like a wish upon weightless dandelion seeds.
Each life beaming at its brightest now,
falling.
The road rises up to greet
and is painted for the day,
sacred,
To witness a life let loose,
and be grateful for this gift.I know this is hard but by holding on you only make it harder,
so let go,
embrace what you are.
Hold other hearts only to the truth of what they are,
sacred,
expect nothing more.‘Cause there’s only now,
change all your thoughts from loneliness to solitude,
sacred,
the space that you’ve found.
Keep holding your ground even through the shadows all around,
quiet,
and don’t make a sound.Cause there’s nothing like witnessing the moment
that a life lets loose and falls to the ground.
Weak autumn winds tip them,
easy,
like a wish upon weightless dandelion seeds.
Each life beaming at its brightest now,
falling.
The road rises up to greet
and is painted for the day,
sacred,
To witness a life let loose,
and be grateful for this gift.
