Video: Larry Wilmore Owns the White House Correspondent Dinner

As Wolf Blitzer sat stone-faced
Humor • Views: 53,448

YouTube

Immediately after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the CNN panel started trashing Larry Wilmore and saying he “went too far,” and offended their delicate sensibilities. I thought he was absolutely on target; I don’t like using the cliché “speaking truth to power,” but that’s exactly what he did tonight. The whining from CNN and other media outlets is in direct proportion to the accuracy of his barbs.

MSNBC didn’t escape the Wilmore laser beam, either: “Morning Joe has their head so far up Donald Trump’s ass they bumped into Chris Christie.” Oh yes.

And here’s Don Lemon giving Wilmore the finger.

He said all the things Obama couldn’t, although Obama got his share of shots in, too.

Between the two of them, the US media caught a well-deserved beating tonight.

Wilmore should wear Lemons’ bird as a badge of honor because it signifies that Wilmore hit his intended target dead center.

‘Night, lizards. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t add that the lead guitarist for the 1980’s french garage band Les Coronados was one scary looking mofo. Anyway, they were a killer band, so enjoy!

There is no need to cancel his show, but he should be replaced as host with another comedian or satirist who understands that offending the mainstream media is off limits. He - or she - should realize that comedy is truly not about confronting the elite, but instead offering up safe, inoffensive observations that aren’t all about making people think or see things from a critical perspective.

One of the other “takes” listed in the side column is about how the only way to counter the Cruz/Fiorina ticket was for Obama to cancel the fall elections.

I’m going into the “satire” camp, personally. It’s always tricky to ascribe a motive to why someone retweets something, but my guess would be Oliver Willis found the satire to be …relevant, is I guess the right word.

Clearly it is. It’s far to self aware to be in earnest. If it was real they wouldn’t be quite so honest about the true nature of Wilmore’s crimes.

It’s because Willis wrote it (and all of the “articles” on Taketown):

Take Town presents the best, strongest opinions in the world. Take Town is not afraid to go there, in the hottest way possible. Take Town takes no prisoners, but instead burns the entire village of utterly incorrect views down to the ground.

Take Town is powered by Oliver Willis

Oh, it’s pretty scathing satire indeed.

Trump backers yell foul over loss at Arizona GOP convention

PHOENIX — Texas Sen. Ted Cruz pulled out a strategic victory at Saturday’s Arizona Republican Party convention, nailing down a large majority of delegates to the national convention amid cheating accusations from backers of businessman Donald Trump.

The Cruz slate won virtually all of the 28 at-large national delegates and roughly split the 27 delegates selected by congressional district.

Former Gov. Jan Brewer, losing her first election in 35 years, angrily yelled “I got cheated — I got cheated,” as the results became known.

But Cruz’s Arizona campaign organizer says simple math led to the at-large victory. Cruz offered a nearly identical slate of candidates as John Kasich backers, and the combined votes led to a win.

The victory was mainly strategic for Cruz since all 58 Arizona delegates are required to vote for Trump on the first national ballot because he won the state’s primary. There are three automatic delegates, including state party Chairman Robert Graham.

I’d found the description, but not the powered by bit. I was suspicious that that might be the case, since he’d also tweeted one of the other headlines recently.

After I read your post, I laughed so loud that my four-legged baby was startled. I can see “GED Jan” in my mind screaming, “I’ve been cheated!” I’ve been cheated!” She’s not accustomed to being told that she can’t have what she wants, but Cruz outsmarted Trump and walked away with most of the at-large delegates. I can say that Trump’s supporters definitely listen to the things he says because he has them all screaming about being cheated. The tools just didn’t bother to study the way delegates are awarded. The only thing that remains to be seen now is how long it will take Trump to tweet about being cheated out of delegates in Arizona.

Many people have hated Wilmore since he took over for Colbert, I am not shocked that the same types of people couldn’t wait to jump at the chance to complain about his comedy, again. I’m not really a fan of the contributors on his show but he has always been funny to me.

Trump’s going to have the scrape the bottom of the barrel to find a running mate.

Run on a Ticket With Donald Trump? No, Thanks, Many Republicans Say

It’s a time-honored tradition for politicians to deny any interest in the vice presidency. But this year, with the possibility of Donald J. Trump as the Republican nominee, they really mean it.

“Never,” said Chris Schrimpf, a spokesman for Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, who is still running against Mr. Trump. “No chance.”

“Hahahahahahahahaha,” wrote Sally Bradshaw, a senior adviser to Jeb Bush, when asked if he would consider it.

Ben Carson. No political career and doesn’t really want one. Meek enough to willingly stand beside Trump. Can make money off the side either way-he’s an independent entrepreneur. Can be a good “family values” person, a bridge to the Religious Right when needed. Makes Trump impeachment proof because no Republicans would want to elevate this guy to the Presidency no matter what Trump does or says.

That was one very good interview for a slithering snake. He can not be pinned down on anything. He always has a dodge or a turn to make in the conversation and ends up saying exactly nothing while staying on his point. Nothing good in that guy. Nothing.

But he did get close to why Boehner said what he said about him. It only took 15 words and his stupid actions in the shutdown and how he didn’t talk to anyone and did his own thing. You don’t have to talk to hell to know you want nothing to do with “Lucifer!”

Hmm.

Malia Bouattia, the newly-elected National Union of Students president, has responded to media reports describing her as an anti-semitic Isis sympathiser, claiming that they are “simply not true”. Bouattia, 28, became the first black woman and first Muslim to be elected head of the NUS last week, beating the incumbent president, Megan Dunn, with 372 votes to 328. However her victory has caused major controversy, with a number individual student unions, including OUSU and CUSU, considering disaffiliation from the NUS in response.
[…]
The main controversy surrounding Bouattia’s election was over past comments describing the University of Birmingham (with its large Jewish community) as “something of a Zionist outpost” in a 2011 article and separate claims in 2014 that “Zionist-led media outlets” oppress the “global south.” More than 300 heads of student Jewish societies and protesters previously issued Ms Bouattia with an open letter, criticising her for the comments. In the article, she responds directly to these accusations, explaining that there is a difference between Zionism, religion and ethnicity. She wrote: “I was not talking about the media as a whole, or repeating despicable antisemitic prejudice.” “There is no place for antisemitism in the student movement, or in society. If any of my previous discourse has been interpreted otherwise, such as comments I once made about Zionism within the media, I will revise it to ensure there is no room for confusion.” She also made clear her condemnation of Isis: “two years ago I delayed a National Executive Council motion condemning Isis - but that was because of its wording, not because of its intent. Its language appeared to condemn all Muslims, not just the terror group. Once it was worded correctly I proposed and wholly supported the motion.”

My white kids are really smart, but I don’t expect any of them to get into Harvard, and I don’t think the Obamas have anything to do with that.

Her chances probably would have been smaller if her dad had not become president, but I suspect the schools she’d have gotten to go to because of her parents financial success would have given her more opportunities than, say, my kids who are pretty smart. We just wouldn’t care as much.

It is horrifying. And as we have seen, its often too late to really vet them once chosen, and since the President and VP runs as a ticket, there’s no chance of rejecting one without rejecting the other and no time for a redo if deficient.

It’s up to the candidate to change his/her mind on a running mate. No one else can make the decision. And later, it’s up to the President to ask the partner to resign. The only exception I can think of is Agnew who was convicted on corruption. A running mate headed to jail can either resign or be impeached, but if neither happens….

Poor wingnuts. Don’t they know that being a child of a President gives you a few extra Life points? Chelsea went to Brown, GW went to Yale. Don’t know where the Carter kids went, but if you are a Presidential child with reasonably good intelligence, there are no top schools who won’t admit you. Even if you choose a Fine Arts major. Even if you major in General Studies, it’s still a top-notch degree. Even if Malia becomes a Rastafarian beach bum later, she’ll still have that Harvard degree.

Having a President’s child attend your school is a free bit of good publicity and a good way to get a parent who has access to lots of fundraising types who will fund your school later and an endowment when the time comes.

It’s not Hebrew, it could come from Plattdeutsch or even Russian or Polish. Yiddish oyf comes from German auf but zunauf is not a prefix in German. My guess is this word is close to German aufkleben.

With respect to that, Harvard, IIRC, would pay for a kid’s education if their parents’ income falls below a certain level. Pays for, not lends money. My alma mater (also Michelle’s) realized several years ago that middle class kids were avoiding the school, because they didn’t want to be burdened with $200,000+ in school loans. So, the trustees decided, “Well, you know, we’ve got this huge multi-billion dollar endowment. We can probably just give those kids enough money to come here, and skip the loans.”

Oh, for sure. Having highly educated parents does help a lot.

As for the #tcot whinging about Malia having a leg up as the president’s daughter, duh. Legacy children get somewhat special treatment in every college admissions office, because, well, donations.

But, that does not mean — Dubya notwithstanding — that a complete high school washout can go to Yale or Harvard just because one of their parents or grandparents went there. It means a legacy kid with average or somewhat above-average credentials has a small advantage over a non-legacy kid. From a certain perspective, it’s not fair, but from another it makes sense. Every college does it. It’s part of every admissions office process every spring.

To suggest Malia got into Harvard only because her dad went there is ludicrous. She’s a top student, I bet.

And top-tier schools like Harvard are used to applications from celebrities and politicians. They’re not going to get all starry-eyed because the president’s daughter is applying.

HURR HURR EVERYWUN KNOWS WHEN A WHITE MAN ACHIEVE SOMETHING IT ONLY FROM BRAINS & HARD WORK BUT WHEN LAZY BLACKS GET SOMETHING IT’S FREE STUFF & WELFARES & AFFIRMATIVE ACTIONS & WHITE GENOCIDES!!!11!!!

I’ve heard this one before from those folks, and I love the denial in it. Never mind that is denying reality, (How many AA editors of Havard Law Journal, and how many AA Presidents, have there been, apart from Barack Obama?) It’s denying answering the obvious question: if you’ve got better brains, and are capable of working harder- how come you’re not POTUS, or, at the very least, editor of Havard Law Journal?

2 am here, and tomorrow is a holiday (May Day+1) so no Monday morning classes. So, I stayed up later than usual to compose something for my blog. It’s not finished, but I’m too tired now to try. Time to give my eyes and brain cells a rest.

All racism and sexism is refusing to answer the question of why other people have to work harder to get something than you had to.

Many of those idiots also forget that there is a significant semantic difference between “nigga” and “n******” and pretend he said the latter.

This is something I’d never considered before today, but it is pretty damned horrifying.

There’s no check in our system to balance that sort of hanging sword. None whatsoever.

They could impeach both Trump and Carson and make Paul Ryan President.

All racism and sexism is refusing to answer the question of why other people have to work harder to get something than you had to.

There also seems to be a related version: Why should someone have have to work harder than me to acheive something, even though, in all honesty, I didn’t even bother my arse to acheive it. WHY WASN’T IT HANDED TO ME ON A PLATE?!??

Testy Toad T  May 1, 2016 • 11:27:01am

Interesting to read these in retrospect. Of all political commentators, I think 538 in general (and Silver in particular) have done by far the best job of articulating the “We consider Trump to be unlikely, but if it were to happen these are the following parts of our political understanding that would have to have failed” argument.

Which is the argument everyone should always be making, because there have only really ever been a dozen competitive primary elections, and that is a very small sample from which to draw reliable conclusions.

Yup, carried the line with the hook/bait then dropped it right over the school.

re: #204 Stanley Sea

I guess (not exactly sure) they bring the line out with the drone then dip the bait up and down, when the fish hits it, the loosely attached line sets free from the drone.

With all the excitement about rattling the MSM’s cages, this kind of got lost in the shuffle last night:

Woman Killed in Crash With Duck Tours Vehicle

They can’t steer, they can’t stop, and they can’t get out of the way. It’s time to get WWII military vehicles out of city traffic.

And if anyone here lives in a town where they operate—be careful!

Meanwhile over in Redstate land…. Two days ago….

BREAKING: New Game-Changing Poll Shows Ted Cruz CLOBBERING Trump By Double Digits in Indiana!!

Which was really ridiculous because if you looked at all of the polls at the time, this was the only poll that had Cruz ahead and it was conducted over a two week period from April 13-27 with no indication of how many people were polled over two weeks ago — way before the Acela primary results.

And today…..

CATASTROPHE: New Indiana Poll Shows Trump with HUGE Lead

Of course, this poll is the problem. They need someone to “unskew” it.

Reading that site is so entertaining…
