Trump and Gingrich Totally Understand Women, Just Like Henry VIII (goes to Wonkette)
According to an article published Monday in the National Review, the two are beautiful “kindred spirits” due to both their ability to harness white male anger and their many divorces. Which, in case you were unsure, is totally a plus, because it shows they “understand women.” Unlike Hillary Clinton, who knows absolutely nothing about how much women enjoy it when their husband presents them with divorce papers when they are in the hospital recovering from uterine cancer so he can go marry another lady.
“I think Newt is lobbying to be the vice president, and I think their people are paying a lot of attention to him,” says Ed Rollins, a Republican operative and former Gingrich staffer now working for a super PAC supporting Trump’s candidacy. “It’d be a ticket with six former wives, kind of like a Henry VIII thing,” Rollins says. “They certainly understand women.”
The Wonkette article includes a link to the National Review article.

I’m seeing people well into middle age still clinging to idealism. That represents to me a fundamental disconnect from reality.

You still have to work with the system in place. And people like @BernieSanders and @ArnMenconi don’t understand that at all.

Been getting sporadic messages from Bernfucks that also support local senate candidate @ArnMenconi. These people are delusional.
re: #18 teleskiguy
I supported Senator Sanders in our state caucuses.
That said, I am neither delusional nor an idiot. It seems very likely that Senator Sanders cannot win (barring a meteor strike on the Clinton campaign). It is my intent to crawl over broken glass and three hundred miles of lava if necessary to vote for Secretary Clinton in the General Election.
(In this very red state however, we have mail voting in the rural areas such as mine. Just as easy to vote as in say Oregon. It is almost as if voter impersonation fraud is not a thing in areas where Republicans are in the majority, something they only pull out when they think they might lose.)

I didn’t want to vote for Hillary Clinton. But the Democratic Party has spoken. And now, looking at the options, I will gladly cast my vote for Hillary with a smile, without all the broken glass shit.

It is not that I don’t want to vote for Hillary Clinton; I am sure she will make a fine president. It is not that I dislike Mrs. Clinton at all. I preferred some of Senator Sanders policy positions and his position on veterans affairs.
It is not a choice of choosing between “the lesser of two evils” as is often said about American politics. It is about choosing pragmatism (Clinton) over evil (Trump or Cruz).

OK, that made me chuckle.
I was remembering a parrot my team had while we were in Honduras. It always had one iris dilated and one constricted. And, they would change together, constantly. The bird also screamed at everyone if they walked within it’s field of vision. And, it tried to bite everyone.
So, of course we named it Psycho…
I unfollowed and unfriended my former county commissioner tonight because he’s an insufferable Bernfuck who sics his followers on me when I say something critical of him.
That’s the attitude Bernfucks have these days. They can’t achieve electoral victories so they resort to intimidation of *people who are on their goddamned side*. It’s beyond ridiculous at this point.

Well, as far as I know I am the only Sanders supporter in my town, but I don’t go around beating up people about who they support. (I have suggested to more than one Trump supporter they reconsider their support for him. More than one in town dropped their support for Mr. Trump over the crazy, and all the Trump yard signs have disappeared.)

I appreciate your position and believe most of Senator Sanders supporters are like you, attracted to his ideas but not jaded or hateful towards Sec. Clinton. I’ve described the things that have turned me off about Sanders and the way he’s conducted his campaign lately but many of those things are probably endemic to hard fought campaigns in general.
I will however note that Sanders used the phrase you describe, “the lesser of two evils” this weekend to describe Clinton vs Trump. I really don’t think that kind of rhetoric is helpful at all. Combined with other things like calling her unqualified, and lying about her calling him that in order to do it, I have to admit I’m deeply worried about his post primary intentions.

*And Mrs. Clinton is not evil.
The Ultra-Spirituality guru, J P Sears, has been mentioned on the BBC, regarding his video on insufferably smug vegans.
As I’ve said before it was when Bernie called Hillary unqualified that pushed me over into volunteering for her campaign. As a 42 year old straight divorced white guy I’m not exactly in the target demographic for HFA volunteers either, it’s mostly older ladies and minorities. The guys I’ve seen at training or events that are my age or younger have been minorities, or gay, or gay minorities, or were dragged there by their wives. One black gentleman in the group we formed at training, probably seven to ten years older than me, described this as “the most important election of my lifetime.” We have an immigrant woman from Gabon in that group, her thick accent makes phone banking difficult but she’s doing it, she’s absolutely terrified of Trump and the kind of hell he’ll unleash.
Just so we’re clear I’m a pretty severe introvert too, I hate calling up strangers on the phone or driving around ringing doorbells doing GOTV canvassing. It’s obviously not impossible for me because I am doing it, and it’s not that different from the data gathering I did for my Master’s Degree thesis. But honestly, I hate it, that’s how badly Sanders pissed me off, he’s got me out there doing shit I straight up fucking loathe to try and fix the damage I think he’s inflicted. Every time I dial a number or get out of the car to talk to some total random person I’ve never met before I have to psych myself up. But the good news, if anybody else is on the fence about volunteering too, is that the campaign is so targeted with quality data that the positive responses far outnumber the bad ones, and the bad ones aren’t that bad either.
Reprinting my post to another forum in opposition to the Washington Post op-ed:
With an article that contains the phrase “before you call me an elitist” (such phrases usually indicate that is exactly what you are—similar to “I’m not a racist but”), the senior editor of The Federalist (a proto-fascist right wing Website for conservatives and libertarians I will not link here) suggests civics tests to prove you are sufficiently informed to vote. (Not a current events test which would be more useful: For example, why are Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin currently libertarian economic Dumpster fires?)
I’m glad to see the alleged liberal media is allowing fascist libertarians a platform to culture-jam their views. As the Washington Post is now owned by another libertarian (Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon), it is not much of a surprise. Both of them are Ayn Rand acolytes (libertarianism works much as a religion does, with dogmas that must be accepted as true uncritically, &c, see again Kansas et alia).
Also arguing this is in no way similar to Jim Crow voting laws (arguing black is white; it is precisely the same thing, considering continuing unequal education in the USA, and Jim Crow states used alleged civics tests), David Harsanyi argues “never have people with so little knowledge made decisions for the rest of us” (no elitism there). His goal is to weed out “irresponsible voters.” That was the exact stated goal of the Jim Crow South, in which I had the pleasure of attending a segregated elementary school when I lived in Maryland.
Mr. Harsanyi of course cannot conceive of the idea that states would use such a test to prevent the wrong people from voting (such as someone with a foreign name like Harsanyi; this is why the government struck down poll taxes and civics tests for voting—see IX and XXIV Amendments and the Civil Rights Act of 1964).
He offers four sample questions for such a questionnaire (note how none of them actually would give you informed voters):
“If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?” (Doesn’t matter in determining my city council or my own representative or senator, and the Speaker of the House is elected by the majority party and voters have no say in the Speaker’s ascension to President anyway).
“There were 13 original states. Name three.” (This has nothing to do with voting, and is a history question, not a civics question. How does knowing Vermont was originally a republic and not one of the Thirteen Colonies affect my ability to select my state governor? How about name three states formed from the Louisiana Purchase, or the Treaty of Hildalgo Guadalupe, since both treaties arguably had massive transformative effects on the nation’s history as well. How about naming the states involved in the Toledo Strip War? [Answer: Only one, Ohio. Michigan, the other belligerent in that border war, was a territory at the time. How about who lost that war? Michigan lost the Toledo Strip and Wisconsin Territory was forced to give the entire Upper Peninsula to Michigan Territory as compensation, though Wisconsin was not involved. All that over a cartography error when the Northwest Ordinance was created. The end of the Toledo Strip War was settled in the 1970’s when the Supreme Court finally settled the water boundary between Michigan and Ohio in Lake Erie, giving a slew of islands to Ohio by canting the water boundary in a different direction from the land boundary.)
“What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?” (Free speech without interference from the government, including the right to spout wingnut fascist libertarianism.)
“What is freedom of religion?” (How does this determine my ability to vote?) An answer could easily be construed in a subjective way. For example, a majority of Americans hold that atheism is not protected by the I Amendment (the Supreme Court differs). Who reviews the test? Put in a fundamentalist and lots of people would fail this question (Catholics, Muslims, atheists, maybe even Methodists).
Numerous conservative and libertarian wingnuts claim that Islam is a political system and not a religious one (and claim Christianity is the reverse when in fact both religions hold political views); political beliefs are protected by the same amendment even if that claim was true. Many states have laws prohibiting atheists from holding office [currently unenforceable but the Supreme Court could rule differently]. Corporations can now impose religious views on employees despite being areligious themselves. Good way to weed out people of the wrong religion from voting (read Muslims and atheists in every conservative state, Catholics in Utah and Dixie, &c).
His whole article (linked above) is an elitist (though I am sure he would disagree with my poor high school educated assessment) argument to re-impose Jim Crow laws in the name of ensuring “uneducated voters” do not vote. Yup, that’s why I served a seventeen year career in the military, to restrict voting rights… .
So what do you think? Should there be a civics test to vote (many Americans cannot pass the test to become a naturalised citizen), and if so, who writes and scores it?
re: #33 Anymouse
Bravo!
It is said that every vet wrote a undated check to the government for up to and including their life. Many get it cashed for the full, many others pay a smaller price and are “only” injured in the course of their duties. Still others are fortunate enough to never have to pay on that check in exchange for the President’s Dollar. None of them wrote that check in the expectation of voiding any part of the Constitution.

re: #33 Anymouse
The Federalist dudes probably argue that only property owners should have the right to vote, since that was the original intent of the Founding Fathers. Jonah Goldberg or some other conservative yakker proposed this in a column a few years back.
A civics test, on paper, seems like a great idea. But the same people who propose it also favor gutting public education. So the test would really be a kind of insurance that only “properly educated” voters could vote — that is, the elite, who would presumably have been educated in private academies, unlike the underclasses, who would be forced to attend underfunded public schools.
So, in practice, a civics test would just be another way to prevent the wrong kind of people from voting.
On other hand, requiring everyone to take the US citizenship exam given to immigrants would be highly instructive. I’d bet more than half the people who were born in the USA could not pass that test.

Yeah. Libertarians and right wing nutjobs sound that alarm over and over again. “Why should I be penalized financially to pay for education when I don’t have kids myself?”
Likewise, they complain about public libraries, public road taxes, parks — anything that the government maintains for the commonweal. They’re also the first to blame the government when things go wrong.
This should go over well:
GOP lawmakers break with party to unveil healthcare bill maintaining parts of ObamaCare https://t.co/lcC5ZtNEYz pic.twitter.com/3ouSZyuBbb
— The Hill (@thehill) May 24, 2016
At the center of the bill is a $2,500 tax credit that any citizen could use to purchase health insurance. The plan would repeal ObamaCare’s mandates for individuals to have coverage and for employers to provide it, as well as the reform law’s requirements for what an insurance plan must cover.
But much of ObamaCare would remain, including its safeguards against insurers discriminating based on pre-existing conditions. The law’s tax increases would also be kept.

Who cares if pre-existing conditions are covered in theory of there’s no mandate for what insurance plans must cover? The last thing buyers want is to go back to shopping for plans to see if they cover basic shit.

It completely ignores the baser sides of human emotions, such as greed and egotism, which tank any attempts to have a completely libertarian society. So they remove the individual mandate, encouraging younger and healthier folks to “opt out” of the system and leaving insurance companies to choke on the older and sicker people who can’t afford to just drop their insurance.
And then they offer a tax credit to breaks down to $208/month, which is plenty if you’re young and healthy but if you’re older and unhealthy will be a pittance.

40k Time
A Hive World is the most populous type of Imperial planet, of which there are approximately 32,380 currently catalogued by the Administratum in the Imperium of Man. The populations of these planets are so great that the people live in huge urban arcologies called hive cities, truly immense, self-contained, many-layered structures that reach high into the sky, each housing billions of individuals. Hive Worlds often provide much-needed industrial labour, their manufactoria producing mountains of war materiel and other goods to meet the Imperial tithe’s demands. Most Hive Worlds started out as relatively hospitable places to live but have become severely polluted, the areas outside the hives reduced to ash wastes or radioactive desert by the never-ceasing industry of the great cities. Equally dangerous can be the hives themselves. The crime-ridden, poverty-stricken areas, almost always found in the most polluted and decrepit lower levels of the under-hive, are home to violent gangs, criminals and assorted scum as well as mutants and heretical cults who hide there from the authorities. It has been said that the sacrifice of over a million Imperial soldiers is worth “one day’s Hive World production” in weapons and armour.

And a $2,500 tax credit in the future doesn’t do anything to help you pay for the insurance today, and would be of limit effect to lower-income people (who might pay less than $2,500 in federal income taxes anyway) unless they make refundable.

Oh, but if you eliminate the requirements on what insurance has to cover, then no insurance company will cover expensive conditions. What might that include? forbes.com
Cancer, stroke, heart attack, premature baby…
Because, let’s be clear, if this were law, there would be no possible way for insurance companies to stay in business covering these.
1) If you cover the above conditions, you must charge high insurance rates to cover them.
2) Insurance companies that do not cover them will be able to charge lower rates.
3) Customers of the cheaper, non-covering insurance companies will be able to switch to the more-expensive, covering companies (roughly*) as soon as they are diagnosed with a condition.
4) Covering companies will not be able to deny them based on the condition.
5) Covering companies will have to raise their rates even further, because they are selecting for new customers who have not paid in, but who are very expensive.
6) Covering companies will very soon become non-covering companies, or go bankrupt. Pick one.
*depending on the switching rules. Get your cancer diagnosed in November in time for open enrollment, kids!

That phrase “lesser of two evils” needs to die in a fire. There is only evil and not evil.
*And Mrs. Clinton is not evil.
The phrase still has its place in the lexicon. I mean, if you’re given the option between anchovies and pineapple pizza, obviously you go for the lesser of two evils.

They just hate all that Bernfuck name-calling.
re: #27 goddamnedfrank
I will however note that Sanders used the phrase you describe, “the lesser of two evils” this weekend to describe Clinton vs Trump.
The article you cite contains this quote:
“ABC host George Stephanopoulos asked Sanders if he would describe Trump and Clinton as “the lesser of two evils.” Sanders said that it was the voters’ line.
“Well, if you look - No, I wouldn’t describe it, but that’s what the American people are saying,” Sanders replied. “If you look at the favorability ratings of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, both of them have very, very high unfavorables.”
And you know, he’s right. Clinton DOES have unusually high unfavorables. And there are a LOT of people tacitly saying that “well, I’m not crazy about Clinton, but she’s better than Trump.” I hear it every day. Hell, the major line her supporters are taking right now is, “well, if you don’t support Hillary, you get Trump.”
I have been a Sanders supporter from the beginning, but I’ve defended Clinton against some of the stupider attacks on her, like the claim she ordered the military to stand down in Benghazi and the “damn e-mails”. I’ve actually been doing that for years. You can look it up.
I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’ll be voting for my second choice in the general election, although some of her supporters don’t make that easy.
But if people claim things about what Sanders said that simply are not true, I’m going to push back against them as well.
If this be “Bernfuckery,” then let us make the most of it.

Every few weeks there’s been a news story like this. The latest one differs only in scope; it includes more schools and even crosses national boundaries.
Someone is calling in bomb threats to schools across the nation, requiring massive police/law enforcement response to clear schools of possible threats.
The calls were reported in California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.
Ken Trump, a national school security expert and president of a school security consulting firm, said Monday’s nationwide bomb hoaxes have the hallmarks of swatting.
Swatting, according to Trump, are “highly disruptive” hoax threats that are intended to trigger massive police response. Trump said they are often described as robotic, computer-generated voices that call in threats to schools or police departments.
A single swatting case can impact multiple states, jurisdictions and even travel across international borders, Trump said.

The friends you keep. Trump has made an extraordinary effort to pander to the white supremacists, racists, and bigot brigade, and they’re his strongest supporters - courtesy of his nonstop rhetoric on getting rid of the “Other”. Building walls, banning Muslim entry to the US, etc. All of that is something the bigot brigade seeks because it helps preserve their “supremacy” - they hate fact that the rights and protections they take for granted are being extended to everyone else.
We see it with attacks against the BLM movement. We see it with the GOP assault on women’s rights. We see it with the GOP attacks on LBGT rights and advances in the past few years.
This is a worldview of middle aged mostly white guys who are seeing their “privilege” receding as the nation becomes ever more like the Melting Pot; where cultures and social groups mix and are supposed to get the same kind of protections and rights under the law.

Maybe we should also be asking why Donald Trump’s top adviser, Paul Manafort, has ties to the Pakistani ISI. And ties to the Russian government.
Manafort’s work in the 1990s as a registered lobbyist for the Kashmiri American Council was only one part of a wide-ranging portfolio that, over several decades, included a gallery of controversial foreign clients ranging from Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos and Zaire’s brutal dictator Mobutu Sese Seko to an Angolan rebel leader accused by human rights groups of torture. His role as an adviser to Ukraine’s then prime minister, Viktor Yanukovych, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, prompted concerns within the Bush White House that he was undermining U.S. foreign policy. It was considered so politically toxic in 2008 that presidential candidate John McCain nixed plans for Manafort to manage the Republican National Convention — a move that caused a rupture between Manafort and his then business partner, Rick Davis, who at the time was McCain’s campaign manager.
Trump has a thing for people who are into strongmen. That’s how he sees himself. We see it in his mannerisms and statements. We see it in who he’s surrounded himself with.

It does mean that civics should be taught a lot more in school. I cannot recall any sort of instruction on how, for example, political parties conduct their primary selection process.
I have tried to explain to people that is is more of a marketing survey than an election, the parties put candidates out to get a feel for how the public will react to them.

I’ve put a lot of thought into a test for participating in voting. And there is no way to truly prevent it from being corrupted unless it were administered by incorruptable robots who would have no interest in the outcome. I’ve also contemplated having you vote weighed by your score on the test. But it would also be hard to create a proper test. How much history and how much about current events? What do you do about different interpretations of those events?
Ultimately, if you’re going to have a Democracy, even a Democratic Republic, everyone has to be able to vote. Otherwise, you need to have a different system that everyone agrees on: Service guarantees citizenship!

There’s still questions about how much was raised, and how much Trump specifically donated. It’s far less than the $6 million he claims was raised for veterans groups, and it’s not clear that he donated $1 million as he had also claimed.
There’s discrepancies as to how much has been disbursed to veterans groups too.
Go figure. Trump inflates his value, worth, donations when it suits him, and cuts the amount when he actually has to pay (taxes, donations, etc.).

The majority of those who are uninsured live in a handful of states that refused to expand Medicaid. Those states are headed up by Texas and Florida, but are geographically tied to the South or Midwest.
You can thank the GOP for that. That’s millions of people who would otherwise have coverage but for GOP refusal to provide access to health insurance via the ACA.
So, when I say that the GOP doesn’t care about public health, this is exactly what I’m talking about.
It’s not just dragging feet on Zika funding, or robbing the Ebola research funding to cover Zika funding, or attacking birth control funding, or abortion access nationally. It’s the steadfast refusal to follow expert advice on medical issues and instead pandering to right wing know-nothings.

With Zika likely to spread in the US as mosquito season starts, the risks to anyone seeking to have children goes up exponentially. The GOP delays in funding mosquito prevention programs and research have serious real-world consequences.

— The New York Times (@nytimes) May 24, 2016
“There are certain tragic dimensions which we all lament,” Mr. Starr said in a panel discussion on the presidency at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
“That having been said, the idea of this redemptive process afterwards, we have certainly seen that powerfully” in Mr. Clinton’s post-presidency, he continued, adding, “President Carter set a very high standard, which President Clinton clearly continues to follow.”
He called Mr. Clinton “the most gifted politician of the baby boomer generation.”
“His genuine empathy for human beings is absolutely clear,” Mr. Starr said. “It is powerful, it is palpable and the folks of Arkansas really understood that about him — that he genuinely cared. The ‘I feel your pain’ is absolutely genuine.”

This describes my FB life, too. And speaking of the old IRS story, I saw Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan talking to Chris Cuomo on CNN this morning still humping Benghazi (even though he’s on a committee that found no wrong-doing) and the IRS “scandal.” I guess it continues to give milk.
Same milk coming from all the Clinton baggage that makes her have high unfavorables!
I swear people just go about life based on how many times something is repeated. I guess finding out for yourself and making a decision based on what you find and how it affects you doesn’t work for them. They need the stamp of someone else’s approval.
It is no wonder why people are miserable and unfulfilled…they’ve been forced to live life based on what they’ve heard.

As a Southerner, granted a Southerner with Northern roots, I will never get why the CSA is romanticized so much. It’s beyond stupid to me.
I just don’t know how you can raise a CSA flag and at the same time not only claim to love the United States of America but also question the patriotism of others. The CSA attacked the US. It started the war. The Civil War killed more Americans than any other war. Honestly, we wouldn’t have this stupid Lost Cause shit if Davis and Lee and the other CSA head honchos had spent lengthy time in jail and they should have.

Roger Stone: Trump Paid Kathleen Willey So She Could Trash Clintons
The media is highlighting a new web video from Donald Trump’s presidential campaign that features former White House aide Kathleen Willey accusing Bill Clinton of sexually assaulting her in the 1990s. In video obtained by Media Matters — published here for the first time — close Trump ally Roger Stone says Trump himself gave money to Willey so she would be able to attack the Clintons during Hillary Clinton’s current presidential run. The Office of the Independent Counsel reviewed Willey’s allegations but declined to press charges after determining that Willey repeatedly shifted her story, lied to the FBI, and urged a friend to falsely support her story. She subsequently suggested that the Clintons had murdered her husband in the same way they supposedly murdered former White House aide Vince Foster.

I think Darth is not liking the personal stuff and would much sooner it be policy/strategy related, etc.
Problem is most of what the attacks against Hillary have been is personal and is packed in all that baggage.
Bernie has been free of it for the most part because the GOP has not needed to attack him. If they ever did, it too would get personal. It is what they do.
All the negativity just builds and builds to where that becomes the unfavorables and people accept it as such and use it to turn down consideration of Clinton.
It all feeds on itself unquestioned and it wears people down. It does exactly what it is intended to do.
It is one reason Bernie is liked. His being an independent and from a small state out of the major party warfare and mud slinging.

Tidbits
“What it does is every single vote that’s cast by a dead voter actually cancels out a vote of a lawful voter cause if they voted for one candidate and you voted let’s say for another, your vote got canceled out,” she said.
As Goldstein reports, it was all supposed to change after the hanging chads incident in Florida in the 2000 presidential election. Congress passed the Help America Vote Act in 2002, which mandated sweeping reforms, including a statewide voter registration system that would eliminate ineligible voters.
But California is the only state that’s still not compliant with the act. Secretary of State Alex Padilla hopes to have it compliant later this year.

I suspect her real attacks will come in two parts: his actual business dealings, including his bankruptcies and his ties to various groups; and his statements and what kind of president that would make him. I also expect his campaign manager’s associations with foreign governments to become a campaign issue.

It wouldn’t work. The news stations take him seriously because 1) he’s a celebrity and 2) he’s the Republican. He could behead his wife on 5th avenue and the press would just compare him to Henry VIII.
Ignoring an accusation is not seen as blowing it off, it’s seen as you not wanting to talk about it.

Ask President Obama about that one. I understand that people are fed up with politics as usual and with politicians, and bringing in an untainted outsider is an intriguing concept.
But he is a totally clueless outsider who has no idea of what separation of powers means or how legislative and political processes are at least meant to work.
That is why he can make promises and threats that he cannot possible follow up on, and that is grounds to seriously take him to task.
re: #224 Backwoods_Sleuth
Baylor firing Ken Starr is like using a Band-Aid on a gaping head wound. It’s meaningless. He’s basically falling on his sword so the football program won’t suffer.
Both Baylor’s head coach and athletic director have been caught in the crossfire of the rape scandal on campus, but Starr is the one being let go? Pffft. Just another example of the university caring more about the money from football than the culture on the campus.
re: #250 Backwoods_Sleuth
Well with live voters that’s an appropriate part of the system. With the dead not so much. This hardly matters until we get a result recount close or worse a result so close as to fall well within the error margin in the system. Makes it a coin flip. But hundreds statewide? How about a campaign based on ideas? Beating the crap out of Trump is easy, great for applause lines, and exactly what he wants.
This race shouldn’t even be close. She should be dismissive of Trump if she addresses him at all. When the media ask her about him she should challenge them and say, “How can you take his ideas seriously?” and leave it at that. Minimize him.
Expecting the media to do its job?
Yeah, that ain’t gonna work.
Edit: Stupid apostrophe.
re: #273 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave to the waffle light)
It worked well in a GOP primary. Hillary is appealing to people who do not respond to that level of viciousness, bigotry and ignorance.
And you can’t just make up accusations against Trump, but the lesson from Swiftboating is that accusations against you won’t go away just because they’re false, because most of the electorate isn’t going to do research.
Edit: and neither will the media.

Yet, what are all the Sanders supporters saying about Clinton? The very same stuff you are now criticizing.
You are an enigma.
Wonder how much that recount will cost the people of Kentucky?
It will make no difference in the end. Bernie doesn’t give a shit.
I could understand it, if there was even a small chance of changing the outcome.

I’m not entirely sure, you’ll have to ask someone from KY, but I think someone said the other day the campaign would have to pay for it.
re: #270 blueraven
LOL…that worked out great for Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, et al.
Yes, Hillary should just relax and enjoy!/
Seriously. SEVENTEEN different campaigns failed to do the most basic oppo research on Trump. They never attacked him directly. They treated him like a bored celebrity that would drop out before the primaries and they never gave him any pushback. They let him slide for months basically unopposed.
It wasn’t until after the votes started that the rest of the GOP stood up and took notice. The Dems can’t afford to be that way. We’ll end up with President Trump if they do.
We saw pretty clearly the results of ‘rise above it’ campaign style in 2004. Kerry ignored the swift boat bullshit in service to this same argument. Hillary will not be making this same mistake.

He wants to spite everyone who doesn’t support him, and would probably be delighted if Trump beat Clinton in the general. If he can’t have the White House, then neither can Clinton.

If this wasn’t ridiculous advice before, and it was, it became so when your preferred candidate, who let’s be honest has no path to victory, decided to bring Clinton down with him. Now that he’s told his legions of cult follower fanatics that she’s “unqualified,” that she’s at best “the lesser of two evils,” that she’s stealing the election form him in a “rigged system,” she absolutely has no choice but to engage Trump. Now that Bernie is putting destructive tools like Zogby and West on the platform committed, who’ve called Trump an authentic human being in contrast to her she definitely has to combat that backstabbing from erstwhile liberal allies.
The thing is though at the end of the day you’re doing fine, which makes your nihilistic who-gives-a-shit callous disregard for the risks being incurred on behalf of other people especially hard to accept without pushback. The fact that you don’t take Trump seriously and don’t think others should speaks volumes about your comfortable position in life and how easy it is for you to remain calm while others are explicitly threatened with ethnic and religious cleansing. Not taking his fascism seriously is how the Republicans ended up with him as their nominee.
Being charitable, this might just be contributing to the narrative at the end where he says “We fought for every win we could, but Clinton ran an amazing campaign and she will be an amazing president.” We’ll see. Would Darth buy it?

“I think it’s a little bit insulting to the people of California — our largest state — that she is not prepared to have a discussion with me about how she will help the Californians address the major crises that we face,” he continued.
Whatever you say jerkoff. The last three polls here have her up 10, 18 and 19 points.

There’s nothing funnier than the Evangelical preachers backing Trump.
The incredible momentum behind The Great Accommodation, the process by which “principled” conservatives prostrate themselves in abject fealty to a vulgar talking yam, already has produced some wonderful low comedy. Senator Huckleberry J. Butchmeup has been pretty damn funny, attempting to stay relevant in a party gone mad by tying his conscience in a bowline.
But nobody has been more of a laff riot than have been the political preachers who have conformed their holy mission so as to encompass the master chef of the Two Corinthians Pizzeria of Staten Island and Florida. Bloomberg News dropped by to talk to one of the head Pharisees.
At one recent meeting with Trump, evangelical leaders noted how he often flashes a signature hand gesture, with a thumb out and a finger point to the sky, as he enters and exits rallies. “You see athletes do it all the time and it’s their chance to point to the sky, to thank God for their success,” said Pastor Mark Burns, CEO of a Christian television network based in South Carolina. “Trump does this all of the time, too. He’s giving reverence to the man upstairs.”

You really focused hard on the Dangerous Donald thing, something that hasn’t been said in like three weeks. The signal to noise ratio of your posts lately sucks. Her taking Donald on is not what’s made the race close, it’s Sanders reckless disregard for the health and basic safety of the minorities who rejected him that has tightened up the numbers. He’s the one who’s continued to feed the media the horserace narrative and spectacle that drives ratings. His campaign was wholly responsible for the near riot shit show in Nevada, and his campaign is continuing to destructively tear the Democratic Party apart precisely when it should be coming together.

The media is driving the polling - fixating on the handful of polls 6 months out showing a narrow lead for Trump inside the MOE and also with crosstabs showing that they’ve pushed to get Trump a lead. They want a horse race since it sells. Trump gets tons of free media exposure - exceeding every other candidate who was in the race, including Hillary and Bernie - combined.
Six months out - heck - six weeks out - there were individual polls showing McCain or Romney ahead against Obama. How’d that work out for Presidents McCain and Romney. Oh wait. They didn’t. Because they were never that close. Outlier polls are just that - outliers. And six months out while one of the primaries is still in the balance while the other candidate is consolidating his position in the GOP isn’t going to last long. Hillary will regain the lead come July and through the summer.
Despite all that media exposure, Trump isn’t held to account for his vile positions that woudl have otherwise killed any other candidate (the misogyny, the hate, bigotry, etc.) None of his fellow GOPers attacked him on any of those issues while they were in the race because they needed his supporters if they wanted the nomination themselves.
Hillary doesn’t need those same voters, and she’s not going to sit back and take smear after smear from the likes of the Trump train.
If you don’t respond to these attacks, you’re labeled a pushover or worse.
But your argument to ignore them is essentially the same one that the other GOPers took, and look where that got them.

He’s lost the primary - yeah, he’s hanging on to the end. And he leveled some criticism at her. That’s not going to hurt her. She knows that (hell, she ignores him 99% of the time unless she’s asked about him). Joe Biden knows that and has said so. Nancy Pelosi knows it and has said as much. Ed Rendell said the same this morning in an interview, but followed with his “I’m a superdelegate and I want him to quit anyway” line. The media knows it too because they don’t even pay attention to him anymore except to say he’s still in the race.
But let’s not let anyone say she’s less than inevitable for November or the whole house of cards will come down.

Bernie is saying that Hillary is insulting the voters in California by “backing out of the debate”. (The part in quotes is a direct quote of his.)
You can’t “back out” of something you never agreed to participate in.
Bernie is grandstanding and lying. He doesn’t have enough money left, so he’s looking for any free publicity he can get at this point (including the stupid and completely useless recanvass in Kentucky).
Hillary is indeed ignoring all this nonsense. But suggesting that calling Trump “Dangerous Donald” is lowering herself to Trump’s level, and somehow diminishes her, is such a weak and bogus charge…I just can’t…
